To inhibit wall sticking during gathering of high water cut crude oil, based on the deposition characteristics of the complexes by reaction of phytic acid (PA) with ferric chloride (FC), a simple and environmentally friendly method for carbon steel plate modification was adopted in this study. The effects of reaction time, FC concentration, and deposition times on surface wettability and morphology were investigated. It appeared in the results that the wettability of the surface no longer changed after 1 min of reaction. After two times of deposition, the carbon steel exhibited superhydrophilicity in air and superoleophobicity under water, and more pronounced nano-structures were observed. Comparing with similar works, no electroplating, heating and other devices are required during the entire coating process . Moreover, for the sake of clearly explaining the mechanism of wettability conversion during PA-FC modification, the theory of surface energy and adhesion work were used to quantitatively calculate the adhesion strength of oil droplet on solid surfaces . It was found that the hydrophilization and underwater oleophobicization of materials were essentially a process of increasing the polar component of surface energies, and the opposite adhesion state of oil in air and under water was demonstrated theoretically. Finally, the anti-sticking ability at low temperatures of treated carbon steel was evaluated experimentally. The PA-FC coating showed good oil gel prevention performance below the pour point of crude oil. In conclusion, the wall sticking prevention method proposed in our work provides another way for flow assurance of the transportation of high water cut crude oil.

In this study, we developed a novel chitosan (CS)-controlled and aluminum phthalocyanine chloride (AlPc)-loaded molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanocomposite as a single nanoplatform (AlPc-MoS2@SiO2-CS) for near-infrared fluorescence (NIRF), photoacoustic (PA), and X-ray computed tomography (CT) multi-modality imaging-guided photothermal and photodynamic combination therapy of tumors. The MoS2 nanodot was used as the PA/CT contrast as well as hyperthermal agent. The MoS2@SiO2 nanoparticles prepared by a facile one-pot approach can serve as drug-delivery vehicles to transport the NIR absorbing photosensitizer AlPc within the mesoporous cavities. Meanwhile, a natural cationic polysaccharide, CS, was introduced as a gatekeeper to avoid the premature release of loaded AlPc. What's more, CS as a tumor microenvironment-responsive agent can control the release of loaded drugs to the acidic local environment in the tumor. The in vivo multimodal imaging uncovered that the AlPc-MoS2@SiO2-CS nanocomposites showed enhanced tumor uptake and diagnosis abilities after intravenous injection. More importantly, the nanocomposites exhibited an evident near-infrared induced photothermal effect in the in vitro and in vivo experiments, which remarkably improved the photodynamic therapy efficiency by accelerating the blood flow and subsequently increasing oxygen supply in the tumor. Taken together, our current work demonstrated a nanoplatform for multimodal imaging guided targeted dual-therapy, which revealed a potential strategy for tumor treatment.

Recently, ultrasmall gadolinium oxide (Gd 2 O 3 ) nanoparticles with high longitudinal relaxation rate have received enormous attention. However, it can't be concentrated in tumor site through intravenous administration due to its ultrasmall size. In this project, we coated ultrasmall Gd 2 O 3 nanoparticles with a near-infrared (NIR) light-absorbing polymer polypyrrole (PPy), modifying with hyaluronic acid (HA) and loaded aluminum phthalocyanine (AlPc), the Gd 2 O 3 @PPy/AlPc-HA nanoparticles could be used for fluorescence (FL)/magnetic resonance (MR)/photoacoustic (PA) imaging guided as well as remotely controlled PTT/PDT combined anti-tumor therapy. Polymerized PPy with high photothermal conversion efficiency was introduced to assemble the ultrasmall Gd 2 O 3 nanoparticles which have high longitudinal relaxation rate and signal-to-noise ratio, thus obtaining Gd 2 O 3 @PPy nanoparticles which possess a larger particle size and can be more suitable for tumor targeting based on the EPR effect . HA and AlPc were adsorbed on PPy for HA-mediated tumor targeting and photodynamic therapy respectively. The in vivo triple-modal imaging revealed that Gd 2 O 3 @PPy/AlPc-HA nanoparticles possess enhanced tumor uptake effect after intravenous injection. More importantly, the nanoparticles exhibited an obvious photothermal effect, which can trigger the release and de-quench of AlPc. The anti-tumor efficiency further corroborated that the combined therapy achieved an excellent tumor inhibition therapeutic effect which was much better than any other mono-therapy. Consequently, our work encouraged further exploration of polymer-based multifunctional theranostic nanoparticles for cancer combination therapy under remote near-infrared (NIR) light controls.

In this research, a novel interfacial enhanced thin film composite nanofiltration (TFC NF) membrane with nail-fixed like surface structure and wave line like cross-section structure, good permeability and superior interfacial stability was prepared by interfacial polymerization (IP) on one-step in-situ aminated polyvinyl chloride (APVC) support layer. The effects of amination agent (triethylenetetramine, TETA) content on the support layers and the effects of the support layers with different degrees of amination on the performance of the TFC NF membranes were studied comprehensively. Furthermore, the interfacial bonding strength of the TFC NF membrane was explored by the inverse permeation test. It was concluded from the results that higher TETA content in casting solution led to the APVC membrane to form macroporous surface structure, thinner top skin layer and larger mean pore size. Meanwhile, more TETA molecules were grafted onto the PVC chains through nucleophilic substitution to participate in IP in a synergistic manner. Accordingly, the corresponding TFC NF membrane formed a nail-fixed like surface structure similar to semi-free-standing polyamide (PA) layer and wave line like cross-section structure with thinner and denser active layer. The water flux of the TFC NF membrane prepared with the optimized APVC membrane as the substrate membrane was increased by 395% at 0.6 MPa compared with the TFC NF membrane prepared with PVC membrane as the substrate membrane, while Na 2 SO 4 rejection did not sacrifice and increased by 3.48%, which manifested that unique structure was favorable to speed up the water transmission and effectively conquered the trade-off effect. Moreover, the representative TFC NF membrane prepared with optimized APVC membrane as the substrate membrane with strong covalent bond between support layer and active layer demonstrated superior interfacial stability in the short-term circulating inverse permeation test.

Our current study experimentally evaluates the impacts of surface hydrophilicity of supports on the properties of polyamide (PA) thin-film composite (TFC) nanofiltration (NF) membranes. A series of “carboxylated polyethersulfone” (CPES) copolymers with an increasing “molar ratio” (MR) of carboxyl units were used to prepare supports with diverse surface hydrophilicities by the classical nonsolvent-induced phase separation (NIPS) method. Then, the PA-TFC NF membranes were finely fabricated atop these supports by conventional interfacial polymerization (IP) reactions. The linkages between the surface hydrophilicity of the supports and the characteristics of the interfacially polymerized PA layers as well as the permselectivity of NF membranes were investigated systematically. The morphological details of the NF membranes indicate that the growth of PA layers can be adjusted through increasing the surface hydrophilicity of the supports. Moreover, the separation results reveal that the NF membrane fabricated on the relatively hydrophobic support exhibits lower permeability (7.04 L·m−2·h−1·bar−1) and higher selectivity (89.94%) than those of the ones prepared on the hydrophilic supports (14.64~18.99 L·m−2·h−1·bar−1and 66.98~73.48%). A three-stage conceptual scenario is proposed to illustrate the formation mechanism of the PA layer in NF membranes, which is due to the variation of surface hydrophilicity of the supports. The overall findings specify how the surface hydrophilicity of the supports influences the formation of PA layers, which ultimately defines the separation performances of the corresponding NF membranes. Keywords:carboxylated PES copolymer;support effect;interfacial polymerization;selective PA layer;TFC nanofiltration membrane

The physicochemical properties of the polyamide reverse osmosis (PA RO) membrane surface play a crucial role in membrane fouling. In this work, a silicon-based material, γ-Aminopropyl triethoxysilane (APTES), was incorporated onto the PA membrane surface by self-crosslinking induced surface modification to improve its antifouling properties. FTIR and XPS analyses reveal that APTES primarily bonded to the pristine PA membrane via amidation between –NH 2 groups in APTES and residual –COCl groups on the membrane surface, and then combined with each other to form Si–O–Si groups (even Si–O–Si networks). The incorporation of APTES reduces the membrane surface energy and roughness, and the surface potential of the membranes can be adjusted by varying the APTES addition. Meanwhile, the pure water permeance of the APTES-PA membrane reached ~3.77 LMH/bar while maintaining a NaCl rejection of ~98.65%. Additionally, although the negative charge of the APTES-PA (M0.15) membrane increases, the antifouling against electropositive small molecular foulants is enhanced, mainly due to the low-surface-energy of the APTES-modified layer. Furthermore, the stability of the APTES-modified layer in the presence of electronegative small molecular foulants with strong decontamination capabilities can be reinforced by a simple high-temperature heat treatment. Broadly speaking, surface modification of the PA RO membrane by APTES combining grafting with self-crosslinking induced method is beneficial for its anti-fouling and reuse.

Secondary Ni 2+ curing enhances the loading stability of Prussian blue analogs. • Integration of adsorption and separation enables efficient cesium removal • The incorporation of PA layer enhances the anti-interference capability. • The prepared membrane achieves over 99% Cs + removal efficiency in high-Cs + solution. With the rapid expansion of nuclear energy, radioactive cesium ( 137 Cs) contamination poses severe ecological and human health hazards due to its long half-life (30.2 years), intense γ-radioactivity, and high aqueous mobility. Conventional remediation technologies remain constrained by inadequate selectivity, excessive energy consumption, and the generation of secondary pollutants. Although membrane-based separation affords continuous processing, conventional membranes typically exhibit insufficient Cs + selectivity. Prussian blue analogs (PBAs) are highly promising for Cs + capture because their crystallographic lattice channels enable size/fit-assisted ion sieving. However, their practical performance is often impeded by PBAs particle aggregation and weak adhesion to membrane substrate. Herein this study presents a PAN-PBAs-PA composite membrane with an interracially engineered architecture, fabricated via a four-step strategy: alkalization, in-situ PBAs growth, secondary Ni 2+ curing, and interfacial polymerization (IP). This design enables efficient and selective removal of Cs + from aqueous media. A systematic optimization was conducted for the secondary Ni 2+ curing parameters and for IP conditions. Optimized secondary Ni 2+ curing conditions (30 mmol·L −1 NiCl 2 , 5 min), uniformly dispersed, highly crystalline Ni Fe PBA nanoparticles were achieved, affording an equilibrium Cs + adsorption capacity of 485 mg·m −2 IP optimization (0.2 wt% PIP, 0.02 wt% TMC, 5 min) further delivered composite membranes exhibiting nearly complete rejection of 2 ppm Cs + (≈100%), while maintaining high selectivity against coexisting salts, with 85% rejection for MgCl 2 , and 92% rejection for Na 2 SO 4 . Meanwhile, the resulting membranes demonstrated markedly enhanced thermal and structural stability. Mechanistically, the secondary Ni 2+ curing strategy promotes robust PBAs anchoring through regulating nucleation and growth at the membrane interface. Benefiting from synergistic size-sieving by PBAs lattice and electrostatic partitioning (Donnan effects) imposed by the PA layer, the membranes achieve enable superior Cs + selectivity. This work provides novel insights into PBAs-membrane interfacial engineering and offers an effective materials platform for advanced nuclear wastewater treatment. Objective: The present study investigates the effect of 1,8-cineole on improving lipid metabolism disorder by regulating oxidative stress and inflammation via the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB pathway. 1,8-Cineole is a monoterpene compound widely found in the essential oils of many plants and has been reported to possess anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities. However, its role in regulating lipid metabolism disorders remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the effects of 1,8-cineole on lipid metabolism and explore the potential mechanisms related to oxidative stress and inflammation. Methods: Cell viability was assessed by MTT assay to determine the optimal PA concentration for inducing lipid accumulation and the non-cytotoxic range of 1,8-cineole in HepG2 and AML-12 cells. Lipid droplets were visualized by Oil Red O staining, while triglyceride (TG) and total cholesterol (TC) levels were quantified using enzymatic kits. Oxidative stress markers (ROS by DCFH-DA fluorescence; MDA by TBA method; CAT activity by ammonium molybdate method) and inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β, IL-18 by ELISA) were measured. Western blotting analyzed key proteins in the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB pathway (TLR4, MyD88, p-P65, p-IκBα). Pathway-specific inhibitors were employed for mechanistic validation. Results: 1,8-Cineole (up to 1000 μg/mL) showed no cytotoxicity. It significantly attenuated PA-induced lipid droplet accumulation, reduced TG and TC levels (p< 0.05), and ameliorated oxidative stress by decreasing ROS and MDA while enhancing CAT activity in AML-12 cells (p< 0.01). Furthermore, 1,8-cineole suppressed pro-inflammatory cytokine release (TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β;p< 0.01), whereas no significant effect was observed on IL-18 levels. Downregulated TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB pathway activation. Inhibition of TLR4 or NF-κB mirrored these protective effects. Conclusions: 1,8-Cineole alleviates PA-induced lipid metabolism disorders, oxidative stress, and inflammation in hepatocytes, likely through suppression of the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB signaling pathway.

Hypoxic tumor microenvironment leads to resistance or failure of radiotherapy (RT). As a non-invasive therapy, photothermal therapy (PTT) can improve the tumor hypoxic microenvironment in addition to directly killing tumor cells. PTT combined with RT (thermoradiotherapy) becomes an emerging treatment. Multi-functional nanoparticles used for hypoxia-resistant thermoradiotherapy in the second near-infrared (NIR-II) biological windows (1000–1700 nm) are urgently needed to be developed. Here, a facil method synthesis of ultra-small cysteamine (Cys)-coated FePd bimetallic nanodots (NDs) is reported. These NDs can not only produce effective hyperthermia (35.4%) when irradiated in the NIR-II region (1064 nm) but also have an enhanced radiation effect due to i) Hypoxic improvement in tumor tissues by photothermal treatment in the NIR-II Biological Windows can greatly enhance the sensitivity of tumor cells to radiotherapy ii) The ability of NDs to deposit radiation energy in tumors has further enhanced the sensitivity of tumor cells to radiotherapy. Meanwhile, NDs was a contrast agent for tri-modal imaging including computed tomography (CT)/magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)/photoacoustic imaging (PAI) in vitro and in vivo . Both in vitro and in vivo tests demonstrated good biocompatibility and excellent stability of NDs, indicating great potential for clinical applications.

Integrating multimodal bioimaging and different therapies into one nanoplatform is a promising strategy for biomedical applications, but remains a great challenge. Herein, we have synthesized a biocompatible folic acid (FA) functionalized gold nanorod@polypyrrole@Fe3O4 (GNR@PPy@Fe3O4-FA) nanocomposite through a facile method. The conjugated FA has endowed the nanocomposite with the ability to recognize targeted cancer cells. Importantly, the nanocomposite has been successfully utilized for magnetic resonance (MR), computed tomography (CT) and photoacoustic (PA) multimodal imaging. Moreover, the GNR@PPy@Fe3O4-DOX nanocomposite shows pH-responsive chemotherapy and enables the integration of photothermal therapy and chemotherapy to achieve superior antitumor efficacy. The GNR@PPy@Fe3O4-DOX nanocomposites have a drug release of 23.64%, and the photothermal efficiency of the GNR@PPy@Fe3O4 nanocomposites reaches 51.46%. Cell viability decreases to 15.83% and 16.47% because of the combination of chemo-photothermal therapy effects. Moreover, the GNR@PPy@Fe3O4-DOX-FA nanocomposite could target cancer cells via folic acid and under a magnetic field. The in vivo multimodal imaging and chemo-photothermal therapy effects showed that the GNR@PPy@Fe3O4-DOX-FA nanocomposites are a good contrast and theranostic agent. Thus, this multifunctional nanocomposite could be a promising theranostic platform for cancer diagnosis and therapy.

Purpose Block copolymer micelles are extensively used as drug controlled release carriers, showing promising application prospects. The comb or brush copolymers are especially of great interest, whose densely-grafted side chains may be important for tuning the physicochemical properties and conformation in selective solvents, even in vitro drug release. The purpose of this work was to synthesize novel block copolymer combs via atom transfer radical polymerization, to evaluate its physicochemical features in solution, to improve drug release behavior and to enhance the bioavailablity, and to decrease cytotoxicity. Methods The physicochemical properties of the copolymer micelles were examined by modulating the composition and the molecular weights of the building blocks. A dialysis method was used to load hydrophobic camptothecin (CPT), and the CPT release and stability were detected by UV–vis spectroscopy and high-performance liquid chromatography, and the cytotoxicity was evaluated by MTT assays. Results The copolymers could self-assemble into well-defined spherical core-shell micelle aggregates in aqueous solution, and showed thermo-induced micellization behavior, and the critical micelle concentration was 2.96–27.64 mg L −1 . The micelles were narrow-size-distribution, with hydrodynamic diameters about 128–193 nm, depending on the chain length of methoxy polyethylene glycol (mPEG) blocks and poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) graft chains or/and compositional ratios of mPEG to PNIPAM. The copolymer micelles could stably and effectively load CPT but avoid toxicity and side-effects, and exhibited thermo-dependent controlled and targeted drug release behavior. Conclusions The copolymer micelles were safe, stable and effective, and could potentially be employed as CPT controlled release carriers.

Inefficient, slow separation resulting from the high viscosity of phosphoric acid (PA) is a crucial problem that limits the process economy of industrial PA extraction. In this work, a super-PA-phobic stainless-steel mesh (SPPSSM) with excellent anticorrosion properties and stability is prepared and used for rapid separation in various PA/tributyl phosphate (TBP) extraction systems. The separation efficiency in batch operation of a PA-enriched raffinate (PER) and TBP-enriched phase (TEP) mixture formed from pure PA and TBP exceeds 97.59%, and the maximum TEP flux is 19.2593 L·m −2 ·h −1 at 60 °C. The maximum TEP flux of 886.1571 L·m −2 ·h −1 is obtained for a 20 wt% TBP kerosene solution and 20 wt% PA aqueous solution. A continuous separation device using the SPPSSM as the core component maintains a recovery rate of more than 95.57% in long-term operation, confirming its performance stability and robustness. The stable selective penetration of the SPPSSM originates from its super-PA-phobicity, which results from its rough surface with low surface energy; the SPPSSM repels PA but allows TBP to pass through. The separation ability of the SPPSSM is determined by the viscosity, density, and surface tension of the two liquid phases after extraction. It can be predicted using an equation based on the filtration mode after correction by a coefficient representing the Reynolds and Weber numbers. This work proposes a material for the rapid separation of PA/TBP in extraction systems and broadens the application field of superwetted materials under harsh conditions.
