Zr 1.75 Nb 0.25 O 12 solid electrolytes [LLSZN with various Sr contents ( x = 0.05–0.25)] have been prepared via conventional solid-state method. The effects of Sr contents on their phase structure and ionic conductivity have been systematically investigated on the combined measurements of X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy and alter current impedance spectroscopy. Our results reveal that a phase transition from tetragonal to cubic structure occurs when both Sr and Nb elements is introduced, and such a cubic structure can be stable over the whole Sr contents variation, which is suggested to provide a beneficial impact on the performance of LLSZN. Accordingly, both relative density and total ionic conductivity exhibit a favorable tendency of increasing first and then decreasing with increased Sr contents, wherein a peak value at 93.46% and 5.09 × 10 −4 S cm −1 , respectively, can be well achieved. Particularly, the maximum ionic conductivity is almost twice that of the compared sample (2.93 × 10 −4 S cm −1 ), and possess the minimum activation energy ~ 0.30 eV. Such a modification method, featured with higher efficiency and lower cost, is expected to be helpful for the development of solid electrolyte.

The red-emitting Sr[LiAl 3 N 4 ]:Eu 2+ (SLA) phosphor was synthesized under flowing N 2 gas. A thin organosilica layer (about 5–10 nm) was coated on the surface of SLA phosphors by a very simple method, which transformed the phosphor surface from hydrophilicity to hydrophobicity . The contact angle of water droplets on the surface of the packed SLA phosphors was more than 140°. Compared with the unmodified sample, the modified SLA phosphors could keep at a high emission intensity for more than twice the time under an extremely high moisture level (at relative humidity of 100%, 85 °C). The hydrophobic modification could also improve the uniform dispersion of phosphors during assembly process of white LED .

Novel red phosphors R 3 P 4 O 13 :Bi 2+ (R = Sr and Ba) are synthesized by solid state reaction method in air, and their crystal structures and fluorescence properties are characterized. The excitation bands peaking at ∼440 nm match with the blue LED chip, and their red emission band peaking at ∼658 and 686 nm within the range 580–800 nm owing to 2 P 3/2 (1) → 2 P 1/2 the transition of Bi 2+ ions can be observed, respectively. The relation between Bi 2+ doping concentration and emission intensity is discussed and the optimal Bi 2+ ion doping concentration is ∼3.0 mol%. Decay curves and time-resolved spectra confirm that R 3 P 4 O 13 :Bi 2+ (R = Sr and Ba) phosphors have only single Bi 2+ center. The luminous mechanism is explained by energy level diagram of Bi 2+ . The luminescence properties indicate that R 3 P 4 O 13 :Bi 2+ (R = Sr and Ba) phosphors have a potential to be used as red emitting phosphor candidate for white LEDs based on ∼440 nm blue LED chip.

Developing highly efficient photocatalysts that selectively convert NO pollutants to NO 3 ¯ while storing metabolic nitrogen for crops remains a great challenge. Simultaneously, there is a dearth of research investigating the relationship between the chemical environment and the activity of catalytic sites. Herein, an efficient impregnation approach to access atomically dispersed Sr single atoms supported on Nb 2 O 5 is reported; meanwhile, various ligands (-Cl, -Br, -OH) are employed to customize the local structure. The results show that Cl-Sr/Nb 2 O 5 exhibits excellent catalytic performance in eliminating NO, which is significantly superior to other catalysts. The introduction of Sr atom and ligand increases the energy barrier of NO 2 formation, thus improving the selectivity of converting NO to NO 3 ¯. This study highlights the importance of precisely designing the catalytic site at the atomic level, and the obtained insights may serve as a valuable guide for developing future catalyst designs.

Background Two frequent problems associated with titanium (Ti) surfaces of bone/dental implants are their corrosion and lack of native tissue integration. Methods Here, we present an anodization-hydrothermal method for coating Ti surfaces with a layer of silicon (Si)- and strontium (Sr)-loaded titania nanotubes (TNs). The Ti surfaces coated with such a layer (Si–Sr-TNs) were characterized with different techniques. Results The results indicate that the Si4+ and Sr2+ ions were evenly incorporated into the TNs and that the Si–Sr-TN layer provides good protection against corrosive media like simulated body fluid. The excellent cytocompatibility of the coating was confirmed in vitro by the significant growth and differentiation of MC3T3-E1 osteoblastic cells. Conclusion Being easily and economically fabricated, the Si–Sr-TN surfaces may find their niche in clinical applications, thanks to their excellent biological activity and corrosion resistance.

While the effects of Sr segregation on the performance and stability of perovskite electrodes in solid oxide electrolysis cells (SOECs) have been widely studied, most attention has been focused on surface Sr segregates, with the impact of the resulting Sr deficiencies within the bulk phase of the electrodes largely ignored. Here, we report our findings from an investigation into the impact of Sr deficiencies in the SrCo0.7Fe0.3O3−δ (SCF) lattice and surface Sr segregates on the electrochemical behavior of well-controlled anode materials. Results demonstrate that Sr deficiencies in the perovskite lattice significantly enhance bulk oxygen ion transport, while surface Sr segregates suppress oxygen vacancy formation at interfaces, resulting in a reduced rate of oxygen exchange and lower surface electrical conductivity. Our study provides critical insights into the roles of bulk Sr deficiencies and surface Sr segregates, particularly their effects on oxygen vacancy formation, electrical conductivity, oxygen ion transport, and the overall rate of a high-temperature oxygen evolution reaction.

The development of reusable heterogeneous catalysts with acid-base bifunctions employing low-cost oil as a raw material is critical for optimizing the biodiesel synthesis process. In the present study, Sr–La/wollastonite bifunctional catalysts with the different Sr/La atomic ratios are synthesized using a straightforward impregnation technique. The results show that the Sr 7 La 3 /wollastonite catalyst establishes a biodiesel yield of 95.35% upon initial use and 85.14% after the fifth cycle of reuse, under the transesterification conditions of a catalyst content of 8 wt.%, methanol to oil molar ratio of 15, reaction duration of 3 h, and reaction temperature of 150 °C. The biodiesel yield of 91.62% is obtained even after the addition of 5 wt.% oleic acid, and the catalyst maintains a high biodiesel yield (>80%) for three reused cycles, which illustrates the good resistance to free fatty acids (FFAs). Meanwhile, the process parameters for transesterification are optimized utilizing Response Surface Methodology combined with Box-Behnken Design (RSM-BBD). With a methanol to oil molar ratio of 17.7 and a catalyst content of 6.4 wt.%, biodiesel yield is 96.08% at 149 °C for 3 h. This study revealed the enormous potential of the Sr–La/wollastonite bifunctional catalyst in biodiesel production.

The safe immobilization of radiotoxic strontium (Sr) in high-level radioactive waste (HLW) remains a major challenge due to its tendency to segregate and leach under aqueous conditions. In this study, a surface vanadium (V) engineering strategy is proposed to enhance the chemical stability of Sr 2 Fe 1.5 Mo 0.5 O 6-δ (SFM) ceramics. V-doped samples (SFMV), synthesized via a sol-gel method with 0.05 mol V partially substituting Mo, show improved resistance to Sr migration. DFT calculations reveal that V modification increases the Sr migration barrier from 0.14 eV (in SFM) to 0.34 eV (in SFMV) and induces the formation of strong Fe-O-V, and Mo–O–V effectively suppressing Sr surface segregation. Additionally, the formation of SrMoO 4 phases may act as Sr sinks, further enhancing stability. Leaching tests show that the Sr release from SFMV drops from 7.43 × 10 −4 to 2.89 × 10 −6 g·cm −2 ·d −1 over 42 days, representing a 64 % reduction compared to pristine SFM. This work provides a promising strategy for designing durable ceramic hosts for Sr-containing HLW.

Near-infrared (NIR) light-emitting diodes (LEDs) light sources are desirable in photonic, optoelectronic, and biological applications. However, developing broadband red and NIR-emitting phosphors with good thermal stability is always a challenge. Herein, the synthesis of Eu 2+ -activated SrY 2 O 4 red phosphor with high photoluminescence quantum efficiency and broad emission band ranging from 540 to 770 nm and peaking at 620 nm under 450 nm excitation is designed. Sr/Ba substitution in SrY 2 O 4 :Eu 2+ has been further utilized to achieve tunable emission by modifying the local environment, which facilitates the giant red-shifted emission from 620 to 773 nm while maintaining the outstanding thermal stability of SrY 2 O 4 :Eu 2+ . The NIR emission is attributed to the enhanced Stokes shift and crystal field strength originated from the local structural distortions of [Y1/Eu1O 6 ] and [Y2/Eu2O 6 ]. The investigation in charge distribution around Y/Eu provides additional insight into increasing covalency to tune the emission toward the NIR region. As-fabricated NIR phosphor-converted LEDs demonstration shows its potential in night-vision technologies. This study reveals the NIR luminescence mechanism of Eu 2+ in oxide-based hosts and provides a design principle for exploiting Eu 2+ -doped NIR phosphors with good thermal stability.

Atherosclerosis is a major cause of sudden death and myocardial infarction, instigated by unstable plaques. Thus, the early detection of unstable plaques and corresponding treatment can improve the prognosis and reduce mortality. In this study, we describe a protocol for the preparation of nanoparticles (NPs) combined with the phase transitional material perfluorohexane (PFH) and with dextran sulfate (DS) targeting class A scavenger receptors (SR-A) for the diagnosis and treatment of atherosclerotic vulnerable plaques. The results showed that the Fe-PFH-poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA)/chitosan (CS)-DS NPs were fabricated successfully, with the ability to undergo phase transition by low-intensity focused ultrasound (LIFU) irradiation to achieve ultrasound imaging; a high carrier rate of Fe3O4 had a good negative enhancement effect on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The NPs had a high binding affinity for activated macrophages and could be endocytosed by the macrophages and notably induced apoptosis under LIFU irradiation by an acoustic droplet vaporization effect in vitro. Furthermore, in an ex vivo atherosclerotic plaque model of apolipoprotein E knockout (KO) (apoE–/–) mice induced by high cholesterol, the NPs selectively accumulated at the sites of SR-A expressed on the activated macrophages of the aortic region. This result was also confirmed by MRI in vivo, where the NPs could be targeted to the aortic plaque and reduced the T2* signal. The LIFU-induced phase transition could lead to the apoptosis of macrophages on plaques in vivo. In summary, Fe-PFH-PLGA/CS-DS NPs may be applied as multimodal and multifunctional probes and are expected to enable the specific diagnosis and targeted therapy of vulnerable plaques.

The formation of oxygen vacancies in cathode materials for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) plays a pivotal role in enhancing the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity. Perovskite-type oxides are regarded as promising cathode candidates owing to their inherent mixed ionic and electronic conductivity (MIEC). In this study, we engineered a series of Pr 0.6 Sr 0.4-x Co 0.2 Fe 0.8 O 3-δ (where x= 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15, denoted as PSCF40, PSCF35, PSCF30 and PSCF25, respectively) cathode through Sr defect and systematically investigated the effects of this modification on oxygen vacancy content and ORR catalytic activity. The A-site Sr deficiency directly regulates the oxygen vacancy concentration and oxygen ion migration capability in perovskite through charge compensation effects. When the defect concentration reached 0.1, the PSCF30 demonstrated optimal electrochemical performance. At 750 °C, the polarization impedance of PSCF30 is only 0.060 Ω cm 2 . Meanwhile, the peak power density of SFM-GDC/LSGM/GDC/PSCF30 single cell is 404.38 mW cm −2 , which is 39.7% higher than that of PSCF40 (289.38 mW cm −2 ). This study emphasizes the important role of appropriately increasing the oxygen vacancy concentration, suggesting that the introduction of appropriate A-site defect in the material is a feasible approach to improve the ORR catalytic activity and ionic conductivity of the cathode.

A series of Aurivillius-type Sr x Ba 1-x Bi 2 Ta 2 O 9 (SBBT, x = 0–1) ceramics were synthesized using a conventional solid-state reaction route and systematically investigated concerning their crystal structure and ferroelectric properties. High-resolution synchrotron XRD refinements indicate that BaBi 2 Ta 2 O 9 crystallizes in the polar A 2 1 am space group rather than I 4/ mmm , confirming the presence of local non-centrosymmetric distortions. A thermal-driven phase transition from orthorhombic to tetragonal is proposed for BBT. The disorder of Ba/Bi cations occurs in BaBi 2 Ta 2 O 9 . Increasing Sr-doping level tends to decrease the orthorhombic structural distortion of Sr x Ba 1-x Bi 2 Ta 2 O 9 . Raman spectroscopy reveals a redshift of the 840 cm −1 band with increasing Sr content x, consistent with the elongated minimum Ta-O distance within TaO 6 octahedra. The x = 0–0.4 compositions exhibit strong dielectric frequency dispersion, while the x = 0.8–1 samples display frequency-independent sharp dielectric peaks. Low-x compositions exhibit pinched P - E loops characteristic of relaxors, whereas high-x samples display squared P - E loops indicative of normal ferroelectrics. Vogel-Fulcher analysis and a phenomenological model reveal that Sr doping suppresses the dynamics of polar nano-region (PNRs) and increases their size across the x = 0–0.4 sample. These phenomena confirm a transition from relaxor to normal ferroelectricity in the SBBT system introduced by increasing Sr-doping level. This work provides new insights into the structure-property correlations in Aurivillius-phase relaxor ferroelectrics, offering guidance for the high-performance energy-storage materials design.
