0D Sb 3+ -based organic-inorganic hybrid metal halide (OIMH) scintillators have gained significant attention due to their efficient self-trapped exciton (STE) emission. However, the interplay between local structural distortion, defect-states, and STE emission remains insufficiently understood. Herein, two structurally distinct 0D Sb 3 + -based OIMHs, [HP(o-tol) 3 ] 2 SbBr 5 and [HP(m-tol) 3 ] 4 SbBr 7 , are investigated to elucidate structure-property relationships governing exciton dynamics. Specifically, [HP(o-tol) 3 ] 2 SbBr 5 features a highly distorted [SbBr 5 ] 2− square pyramid with an active lone pair, whereas [HP(m-tol) 3 ] 4 SbBr 7 contains a symmetric [SbBr 6 ] 3− octahedron with an inactive lone pair. Despite stronger distortion, the former exhibits a low photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 6%, while the latter achieves a high PLQY of 81%. Through combined photophysical analysis and first-principles calculations, we reveal that the stronger distortion induces defect-states, which compete with STE emission and lead to enhanced non-radiative losses. Consequently, [HP(m-tol) 3 ] 4 SbBr 7 demonstrates promising X-ray scintillation performance, with a light yield (LY) of 12200 ± 200 photons MeV −1 . This performance enabled the fabrication of flexible [HP(m-tol) 3 ] 4 SbBr 7 @SEBS scintillator films, achieving a spatial resolution of 8.0 lp mm −1 and high-quality 2D & 3D X-ray imaging and tomography, offering a promising path for future medical and industrial inspection technologies.

Lead-free zero-dimensional (0D) perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) with isolated octahedral structures have attracted considerable attention due to their unique photoelectric properties, such as highly efficient emissions with broadband features. A series of phosphors composed of Sb3+-doped 0D perovskite crystals Cs3ZnCl5 with wavelength-tunable emission spectra have been obtained using a facile recrystallization method at room temperature in air. By controlling the doping concentration of Sb3+ in Cs3ZnCl5 lattice, bright emissions from red to orange have been achieved under excitation at 320 nm due to the expansion of the crystal lattice, and the emission excited at 275 nm is bluish-white, spanning the full visible region. Inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometry (ICP) demonstrates the Sb3+ substitutes for Zn2+ rather than Cs+ due to the similar charges and ionic radii. The luminescence performance of phosphor Cs3ZnCl5:Sb3+ can be improved obviously by replacing 3 mol% of Cs+ with Rb+ or K+ due to the further distortion of the crystal lattice. The present approach allows the synthesis of large-scale emissive lead-free 0D perovskites activated by Sb3+ with tunable luminescence color.

All-inorganic lead-free halide double perovskites (HDPs) with unique soft lattice structure have attractive photoluminence (PL) from self-trapping excitons (STEs). However, pristine HDPs suffer from low PL quantum yiled and narrow color gamut, collectively hindering their applications. Here, heavy metal ion Sb 3+ is introduced into rare-earth-based Cs 2 NaLuCl 6 HDPs to enhance the blue emission intensity of STEs and the mechamism is illustrated through DFT calulation. Then lanthanide ions (Ln 3+ = Er 3+ , Ho 3+ ) are added in blue light emissive Cs 2 NaLuCl 6 : Sb 3+ and typical green and red light emission can be obtained via the energy transfer (ET) from STEs to Er 3+ and Ho 3+ , respectively. Luminescence chromaticity modulation and white emission is achieved by adjusting the doping content of Ln 3+ . Leveraging the distinct thermal responses of STEs and Er 3+ emissions in Cs 2 NaLuCl 6 : Sb 3+ , Er 3+ , a dual-mode fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) thermometer is proposed by integrating non-thermally coupled energy levels (NTCL) and thermally coupled energy levels (TCL) of STEs and Er 3+ . The dual-mode FIR thermometer exhibits pronounced chromaticity variation (CIE Δy = 0.072) with temperature range from 294 to 473 K, elevated sensitivity (S r = 1.24 %) at 293 K and better repeatability test, demonstrating its application for high-precision visualized optical temperature sensing.

Organic–inorganic hybrid multimetal halides possess rich photophysical properties and great potential for multicolor emission and multifunctional optoelectronic applications, but their development is limited by phase separation and the difficulty of integrating multiple luminescent functions. Herein, we report a zero-dimensional Pb-In bimetallic halide, (C 9 H 20 N) 7 [InCl 4 ] 2 [Pb 3 Cl 11 ] (C 9 H 20 N + = 1-butyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium), as a structurally well-defined multimetallic crystalline platform. Under 340 nm excitation, the compound exhibits bright green emission at 518 nm with a high PLQY of 96.4%, originating from the [Pb 3 Cl 11 ] 5– cluster tri-polaron formed through phonon-assisted coupling among three [PbCl 6 ] 4– octahedra. Upon Sb 3+ introduction, an additional broadband red emission at 675 nm appears, associated with Sb 3+ -related triplet self-trapped exciton (STE) and Sb 3+ -In 3+ donor–acceptor pair (DAP), enabling excitation-dependent tunable emission from green to red. More importantly, under 365 nm excitation, the undoped crystal shows pronounced anti-thermal-quenching behavior, while the Sb 3+ -doped system exhibits temperature-responsive luminescence regulation and reversible red-orange-green thermochromism over 80–460 K. This work thus integrates efficient cluster-based green emission, Sb 3+ -induced red emission, antithermal-quenching behavior, and reversible thermochromic response in a single Pb-In multimetallic zero-dimensional crystalline platform, showing promise for solid-state lighting, optical anticounterfeiting, and information encryption.

Tuning the antimony local structure shifts emission from blue to deep red in halides. • Spin-orbit and electron-phonon coupling jointly influence emission color evolution. • Halide ligands control singlet-to-triplet exciton conversion via the heavy-atom effect. Local structure regulation provides an effective strategy to manipulate the excited-state structures and emission properties of Sb 3+ -activated zero-dimensional (0D) organic-inorganic hybrid metal halides. Herein, we develop a local structure regulation strategy in a series of 0D hybrid metal halides sharing the same C 13 H 22 N + organic cation. By regulating the coordination geometry and halide ligands of Sb 3+ centers, distinct Sb 3+ local coordination structures are constructed, enabling broad emission color tuning from blue at 442 nm to deep red at 710 nm. Photophysical characterizations and first-principles calculations reveal that the emission evolution is governed by the coupled modulation of spin-orbit coupling (SOC) and electron-phonon coupling. In particular, the coordination environment influences the heavy-atom effect and intersystem crossing (ISC) process, thereby altering the relative contributions of singlet-state and triplet-state self-trapped exciton emissions. Furthermore, a transparent emissive hybrid glass with a visible transmittance of up to 88% is obtained by melt-quenching, indicating its potential processability for optoelectronic applications. This work establishes local structure regulation as a practical strategy for controlling exciton dynamics and designing 0D metal halides with widely tunable emission colors. A series of Sb 3+ -doped Cs 2 NaScCl 6 double perovskites were synthesized to realize bifunctional optical sensing. Upon 337 nm excitation, the designed compounds emitted intense blue emission, whose intensity was dependent on dopant content and the involved concentration quenching mechanism was caused by electric dipole-dipole interaction. The impact of temperature on the luminescence properties of the final products was investigated, implying their good thermal stability. Through analyzing the response of lifetime to temperature, the thermometric properties of the resultant double perovskites were discussed and the maximum relative sensitivity was 0.32% K −1 , with a broad operating range of 303-623 K. Moreover, in-situ high-pressure X-ray diffraction was tested to explore the structural stability of the studied samples. With elevating pressure, a significant spectral blue-shift was observed in the resulting compounds, enabling their potentials in optical manometry. According to the pressure-dependent emission band centroid, the manometric features of the developed double perovskites were characterized, in which its maximum pressure sensitivity was 10.13 nm GPa −1 with a working pressure range of 0.27-6.69 GPa. Our findings demonstrate that the luminescence properties of Sb 3+ -doped Cs 2 NaScCl 6 double perovskites can be efficiently modulated by extreme condition, endowing their applications in optical temperature and pressure sensing.

In the pursuit of environmentally friendly luminescent materials, lead-free double perovskites (LFDPs) have emerged as a promising candidate, distinguished by their unique photophysical characteristics. Concurrently, the development of a single-component phosphor capable of generating stable, full-spectrum white light presents a formidable challenge, standing in contrast to the prevalent multi-phosphor systems used in contemporary white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs). Here, we report the design and synthesis of a triple-doped Cs 2 NaYCl 6 : Sb 3+ , Tb 3+ , Mn 2+ material, achieving single-phase white light emission. In contrast to the pristine Cs 2 NaYCl 6 host, which displays only weak sky-blue luminescence, a remarkable augmentation in the intensity of its self-trapped exciton (STE) emission is observed upon Sb 3+ doping. The enhanced STE-based emission can be primarily attributed to the novel sensitizing state introduced by Sb 3+ doping. The effective STE energy transfer to Tb 3+ and Mn 3+ under Sb 3+ sensitization overcomes the inherent drawbacks of efficiency and color rendition in single-matrix WLEDs. The white light emission can be precisely tuned by simply adjusting the doping ratios. A WLED device was fabricated by integrating the as-synthesized phosphor with a 340 nm UV chip. The device exhibited promising white light performance, yielding a correlated color temperature (CCT) of 5133 K, a color rendering index (CRI) of 92.1, and CIE coordinates of (0.3422, 0.3587), thereby validating its strong potential for practical white lighting applications.

The pollution and harm of Sb 3+ to aquatic systems is a global problem, so Sb 3+ removal from the water environment to make sure environment safety and human beings wellbeing is of urgency. This study explored the effect of chitosan combined with nicotinamide-modified eupatorium adenophorum biochar (CEBC) on adsorbing Sb 3+ through batch adsorption experiments. The experiments indicated CEBC's maximum adsorption capacity to Sb 3+ is 170.15 mg·g −1 . Meanwhile, the capacity of the original biochar (EBC) is only 9.97 mg·g −1 . Compared with EBC, CEBC contains more functional groups, such as C O, -OH and -NH 2 . In addition, the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the Langmuir model are fit to describe the kinetics and isotherms of adsorption of CEBC to Sb 3+ , which suggests that the adsorption of CEBC to Sb 3+ is dominated by monolayer chemisorption. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations confirmed that the chelation between –NH 2 and Sb 3+ is of significance in the adsorption process of CEBC. DFT calculations also found that the newly added –OH and C O in EBC have a synergistic enhancement effect on the absorption of Sb 3+ . The mechanism of CEBC absorbing Sb 3+ includes electrostatic interactions, pore filling, Л–Л interactions, hydrogen bonding, functional group complexation, chelation, and oxidation . CEBC has an excellent anti-interference ability for inorganic anions (NO 3 − , SO 4 2− and Cl − ) and can also use the coexisting HA to improve its adsorption performance. In addition, CEBC has better mitigation of Sb 3+ on the performance of Sb 3+ about its secondary release and good reproducibility, which indicates that CEBC is a viable Sb 3+ adsorbent.

All-inorganic bismuth-halide perovskites are promising alternatives for lead halide perovskites due to their admirable chemical stability and optoelectronic properties; however, these materials deliver inferior photoluminescence (PL) properties, severely hindering their prospects in lighting applications. Here, a novel air-stable but non-emissive perovskite Rb 3 BiCl 6 is synthesized, and the material is used as a prototype to uncover origin of the poor optical performance in bismuth-halide perovskite. It is found that the extremely strong exciton–phonon interactions with a large coupling constant up to 693 meV leads to the seriously nonradiative recombination, which, however, can be effectively suppressed to 347 meV by introducing Sb 3+ ions. As a result, Sb 3+ -doped Rb 3 BiCl 6 exhibits a stable yellow emission with unprecedented PL quantum yield up to 33.6% from self-trapped excitons. Systematic spectroscopic characterizations and theoretical calculations are carried out to unveil the intriguing photophysical mechanisms. This work reveals the effect of exciton–phonon interaction, that is often underemphasized, on a material's photophysical properties.

Vacancy-ordered double perovskites have emerged as promising candidates for single-component white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) owing to their intrinsic broadband emission, dopant-induced color tunability, and stable optoelectronic properties. However, their practical application is limited by the difficulty of obtaining high-quality crystals, as the typically rapid and poorly controlled crystallization processes tend to induce lattice disorder and defect formation. In this work, we report a 4-mercaptobenzoic acid (4MBA)-assisted coprecipitation strategy to synthesize high-quality 3%Sb 3+ -doped Cs 2 ZrCl 6 (CZC:3%Sb (4MBA)) microcrystals (MCs). Despite its non-coordinating nature with the crystal surface, 4MBA functions as an effective kinetic regulator that retards crystallization and enhances growth control, thereby suppressing lattice disorder and defect formation to improve crystal quality. As a result, the optimized CZC:3%Sb (4MBA) MCs achieve a photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 88%, twice that of the unmodified MCs, while concurrently ensuring excellent ambient and thermal stability. Fabricated WLEDs based on CZC:3%Sb (4MBA) MCs exhibit warm white emission with a high color rendering index (CRI) of 94 and maintain stable operation over 14 h. This work presents an effective strategy for regulating crystal growth to enhance the optical performance of lead-free vacancy-ordered double perovskites, paving the way for high-performance, single-component WLEDs.

Zero-dimensional (0D) organic-inorganic hybrid metal halides are promising for solid-state lighting and optical encryption because of their strong quantum confinement and structural versatility. However, achieving precise and independent regulation of multiple emissive channels in a single-component host remains challenging. Here, we report Sb 3+ /Mn 2+ -co-doped (C 4 H 12 N) 2 ZnCl 4 , which exhibits dual emission centered at 520 nm from Mn 2+ and 670 nm from Sb 3+ -associated self-trapped excitons under 365 nm excitation. The two bands show distinct decay lifetimes of 0.83 ms and 7.7 μs, respectively, consistent with independent emissive pathways. Importantly, the emission color reversibly changes from green to orange-red across a series of solvents with different polarities. Combined with the dual-band emission, this solvent-responsive behavior enables multichannel optical logic operations and information encryption. This work offers a route to multifunctional 0D hybrid halides featuring spectrally and kinetically differentiated emission channels.

Zero-dimensional organic-inorganic metal halides show immense potential in multifunctional application fields. In this work, a highly efficient Sb 3+ -doped 0D zinc-based hybrid single crystal, TEMA 2 ZnCl 4 (TEMA + = (C 2 H 5 ) 3 CH 3 N + ), was successfully synthesized. Under 310 nm excitation, the Sb 3+ luminescent centers generate broadband dual emissions peaking at 500 nm and 656 nm, achieving an outstanding PLQY of 97%. Leveraging this luminescence features, we fabricated a single-component WLED by directly combining the single crystal with a 310 nm UV chip. The resulting device exhibits excellent illumination parameters, featuring a low correlated color temperature of 3755 K, a high color rendering index of 92.4, and a chromaticity coordinates of (0.403, 0.420). Embedding these crystals into a PDMS matrix yielded a flexible thin film, which successfully realizes high level optical anti-counterfeiting applications based on the striking visual contrast between ambient and UV light environments. This study not only advances the design of highly efficient Sb 3+ -doped zinc chloride hybrid but also provides a valuable material for multifunctional applications.
