The trade-off between permeability and selectivity, along with the issue of membrane fouling, has constrained the widespread application of ultrafiltration (UF) membranes in recycling rare earth wastewater. Here, we present the incorporation of tannic acid (TA) modified molybdenum disulfide oxide (O-MoS 2 ) as a functional enhancer to fabricate polyethersulfone (PES) based mixed matrix membranes through a nonsolvent induced phase separation (NIPS) approach. Compared to the unmodified PES membrane, the integration of TA-O-MoS 2 significantly improves the hydrophilicity, porosity in the mixed matrix membrane. By altering the concentration of TA-O-MoS 2 , the TA-O-MoS 2 /PES UF membrane achieves enhanced hydrophilicity and charge properties, resulting in a remarkable improvement in separation performance. Specifically, the optimized membrane M2 (TA-O-MoS 2 addition of 0.1 wt%) exhibits a water flux of 140.98 Lm −2 h −1 bar −1 and a PEG 20000 rejection rate of 91.00 %, representing increases of 180 % and 120 % over the control PES membrane, respectively. Notably, membrane M2 effectively retains 91.31 % of macromolecular organic compounds in rare earth wastewater, while permitting nearly complete passage of inorganic salts, for instance CaCl 2 (3.26 %) and MgSO 4 (4.84 %). Moreover, the TA-O-MoS 2 /PES membrane demonstrates robust antifouling properties and exceptional durability, indicating its significant potential for efficient treatment and resource recovery in rare earth wastewater.

Oxidative desulfurization (ODS) is one of the most promising processes for producing clean fuels to meet the requirements for the clean use of fossil fuels. In this study, a MoS2/h-BN heterojunction was synthesized using the chemical vapor deposition method, leading to a modified electronic structure at the surface. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, electron paramagnetic resonance, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy suggested the occurrence of interfacial electronic reorganization and enhanced charge transfer efficiency due to the formation of a well-defined heterojunction. Hydrogenation temperature-programmed reduction revealed a strong interaction between h-BN and MoS2, which contributed to the highly efficient performance of the heterojunction for ODS applications. As a result, although h-BN showed very low ODS activity, its catalytic activity was enhanced so much and even comparable to that of pure MoS2 after loading with only 1.7 wt % MoS2 on h-BN to construct MoS2/h-BN heterojunctions.

The simultaneously efficient removal of radionuclides and heavy metals is an important and challenging topic for aquatic environmental protection. In this work, molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) with heavy metal ion adsorption capacity and positively charged polyethyleneimine (PEI) were used to fabricate a novel layer-by-layer (LbL) self-assembly composite membrane by a simple alternating immersion method. The unique structure with positive charge ensures high removal for toxic metals (R Cs(I) = 99.83 %, R Sr(II) = 100 %, R Hg(II) = 99.2 %, R Pb(II) = 98.13 %, R As(III) = 98.5 %). The inherent low resistance channels in MoS 2 provided the optimized composite membrane an elevated water flux. Long-term experiments and membrane regeneration also demonstrated that the membrane possesses exceptional stability and reusability in removing low levels of radionuclides Cs(I) and Sr(II) from water. This study confirms the feasibility of the MoS 2 -PEI composite membrane for the treatment of contaminated waters containing radionuclides and heavy metals.

MoS 2 /MIL-88A (Fe) composite catalyst was prepared by in-situ formation method. The material was characterized by SEM, TEM, XRD and XPS, and the Rhodamine B(RhB) was activated and degraded by persulfate (PMS). The results showed that M-10/M 1:2 had the best degradation effect on RhB, the rate constant was 0.66420 min −1 , and the degradation rate could reach 1.89–14 times that of other doped composite catalysts. The SEM results showed that M − 10 had the least sulfur content, fewer MoS 2 flower layers and more exposed Mo 4+ atoms, which improved the electron transfer efficiency and accelerated the degradation reaction. The XPS spectra before and after M-10/M 1:2 reaction showed that the REDOX reaction of Fe 3+ /Fe 2+ and Mo 4+ /Mo 6+ on the catalyst surface played an important role in the activation of PMS. The results of free radical capture experiment and ESR test showed that the main active substances in M-10/M 1:2 /PMS reaction system were SO 4 •− , 1 O 2 , •O 2 − , and •OH, which only played a role in the degradation of RhB. Finally, based on the ESR results of M-10/M 1:2 /PMS system and the changes of Fe and Mo elements in XPS characterization before and after the reaction, the degradation mechanism of M-10/M 1:2 /PMS system was proposed.

Glyphosate (GLY) is one of the most widely used herbicides, and the presence of its residues in food samples poses a threat to human health. Developing a monitoring system could help address food safety concerns. This study presents an innovative electrochemical sensing platform to detect GLY, which employs molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) and black phosphorene (BP) nanocomposites (MoS 2 @BP) with horseradish peroxidase (HRP) for the working electrode modification. The MoS 2 @BP nanocomposite is synthesized using a hydrothermal method, and its characteristics are investigated through different methods including scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction methods. The presence of BP enhances electrical conductivity and increases specific surface area, while MoS 2 improves the electrochemical properties of the composites and provides a protective effect on BP. The modification of MoS₂@BP on the electrode surface helps to accelerate the direct electron transfer of HRP with enhanced electrochemical responses. Furthermore, the incorporation of amino acid residues from HRP significantly enhances the recognition of GLY, thereby improving the selectivity and sensitivity of this electrochemical sensor. The sensor operates effectively within a linear concentration range from 0.118 nmol/L to 20.65 μmol/L, with a low detection limit of 0.0393 nmol/L (3σ). Furthermore, the sensor is successfully applied to detect GLY in real cornmeal samples with satisfactory results, demonstrating its potential applications in food safety monitoring.

With the rapid advancement of communication technology, electromagnetic pollution has become a critical issue, driving the demand for lightweight, broadband, and efficient electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption materials. However, achieving effective low-frequency EMW absorption remains challenging due to the trade-off between attenuation capability and impedance matching. Here, we report a novel MoS 2 /CNT carbon foam (MC@CF) derived from pyrolyzed polyimide composite foam integrated with hydrothermally synthesized MoS 2 /CNT. By precisely controlling the 1T-phase content and leveraging the 3D interconnected porous architecture and heterogeneous interfaces, improved impedance matching and enhanced EMW dissipation are achieved. The MC@CF demonstrates exceptional low-frequency absorption, with a minimum reflection loss (RL min ) of −65.6 dB in the C band and −49.4 dB at 2.25 GHz in the S band. Additionally, the foam exhibits a remarkable radar cross-section (RCS) reduction of 26.1 dB·m 2 , high compressive strength (1.45 MPa), and superior thermal insulation, making it promising for extreme environment applications.

Achieving high energy density in aqueous asymmetric electrochemical capacitors hinges on the development of electrode materials that combine exceptional capacitance with superior conductivity. Despite its high theoretical capacitance, Ni(OH)2 is limited by low intrinsic conductivity, significantly limiting its performance. In this study, a Mn–Ni(OH)2@1T-MoS2 heterostructure was synthesized through a facile growth method, achieving significant electrochemical performance boost. The lattice matching at the heterointerface induces a controlled lattice expansion in Mn–Ni(OH)2, while the interfacial interactions promote electron transfer from Mn–Ni(OH)2 to 1T-MoS2. These synergistic effects enhance conductivity and active site utilization, addressing the core challenges of pristine Ni(OH)2. As a result, the heterostructure exhibits a high specific capacity of 244.2 mA h g−1 at 1 A g−1 and a rate capability of 51.4% at 12 A g−1. Moreover, the assembled asymmetric electrochemical capacitor delivers an energy density of 61.67 W h kg−1 at 600 W kg−1 and maintains 72.7% capacity retention after 10 000 cycles at 5 A g−1. This work not only highlights the critical role of heterointerfaces in enhanced electrochemical performance but also provides a robust strategy for designing high-performance energy storage systems.

Flexible lappable memristors are ideal building blocks for designing smart fabric information processing devices, which empowers versatile integration of smart fabrics. The volatile type of memristors have certain limitations in applications and most of them suffer from random formation of conductive channels and lack certain stability. In this paper, such small-area contacts were fabricated on carbon fibers using direct solution deposition, where each interwoven fiber contact can be used as a memristor, and excellent resistive switching performance was obtained by copper atom modification, with switching ratios of up to 10 6 , setup voltages as low as 0.8 V, and hold-up times of more than 10 4 s. Our systematic study demonstrates that heat treatment temperatures and copper modification can achieve a volatile-to-non-volatile transition. The textile-based memory elements successfully demonstrate synaptic plasticity under electrical stimulation, accurately emulating fundamental neural network operations. The resulting textile-type memristor arrays have high inter-device homogeneity and are capable of high-recognition accuracy image recognition and processing of complex physiological data, such as brainwave signals. Textiles can switch back and forth between wave-transparent and wave-blocking at low frequencies, effectively preventing interference between devices. This dual function of combining neuromorphic computing with filterable electromagnetic protection offers great potential for next-generation smart textile applications.

The ability to selectively destroy cancer cells while sparing normal tissue is highly desirable during the cancer therapy. Here, magnetic targeted photothermal therapy was demonstrated by the integration of MoS 2 (MS) flakes and Fe 3 O 4 (IO) nanoparticles (NPs), where MoS 2 converted near-infrared (NIR) light into heat and Fe 3 O 4 NPs served as target moiety directed by external magnetic field to tumor site. The MoS 2 /Fe 3 O 4 composite (MSIOs) functionalized by biocompatible polyethylene glycol (PEG) were prepared by a simple two-step hydrothermal method. And the as-obtained MSIOs exhibit high stability in bio-fluids and low toxicity in vitro and in vivo . Specifically, the MSIOs can be applied as a dual-modal probe for T 2 -weighted magnetic resonance (MR) and photoacoustic tomography (PAT) imaging due to their superparamagnetic property and strong NIR absorption. Furthermore, we demonstrate an effective result for magnetically targeted photothermal ablation of cancer. All these results show a great potential for localized photothermal ablation of cancer spatially/timely guided by the magnetic field and indicated the promise of the multifunctional MSIOs for applications in cancer theranostics.

Most hydrogels are composed of polymer chains lacking efficient light-absorbing groups, which presents a significant challenge for achieving high photothermal conversion efficiency and severely hinders the advancement of solar-driven interfacial evaporation technologies. In this study, a mechanically robust and conductive polypyrrole (PPy) hydrogel was successfully fabricated via oxidative polymerization combined with a secondary growth strategy. The resulting hydrogel exhibits an ultrahigh solar absorption efficiency of up to 98 % and achieves an evaporation rate of 3.85 kg m −2 h −1 under one sun illumination. To further enhance performance, molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂) nanosheets were introduced to regulate sulfur vacancies, thereby boosting the photothermal conversion efficiency of the MoS₂/PPy hydrogel. Additionally, the incorporation of MoS₂ optimized the hydrogel microstructure, suppressed salt accumulation, and promoted the formation of micro-meniscus structures and water droplets. These features effectively activated water molecules and reduced the evaporation enthalpy, resulting in a further increase in evaporation rate to 4.34 kg m −2 h −1 . This work offers a promising strategy for designing next-generation hydrogel-based solar evaporators that integrate high photothermal conversion efficiency, low evaporation enthalpy, and efficient water transport channels.

The wear and corrosion resistance of water-based polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) coating need to be further improved to cope with various harsh environmental conditions. In this paper, a mulberry-like ZSM-5 molecular sieve was prepared and then was modified to enhance the uniformity, wear resistance and hardness of PTFE coating. In addition, a ZSM-5/MoS2/PTFE coating was developed by adding MoS2 in the chemical composition of coatings, which significantly increased the critical cracking thickness of PTFE to 27 μm. The wear amount of ZSM-5/MoS2/PTFE coating is only 5.7 mg, and after 680 h of salt spray, there is no obvious corrosion on the surface. The friction coefficients under applied loads of 5 N, 10 N, and 20 N are 0.007, 0.057, and 0.055, respectively. The experiment results show that the coating possesses excellent lubrication, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance, and its performance and cost are far superior to commercial products.

A novel (MoS2/C3N4)-sensitized TiO2 nanotube array (NTA) photoelectrode has been prepared by a simple hydrothermal synthesis and high-temperature calcination. When petal-like MoS2 nanosheets are uniformly distributed on the surface of TiO2 nanotubes coated with layered C3N4, a notable red-shift and high absorption are observed in the visible light region. The photocurrent density (mA cm−2) systematically increases from TiO2 NTAs (0.97), C3N4/TiO2 (1.25), MoS2/TiO2 (1.50), to TiO2/MoS2/C3N4 (1.97) under visible light irradiation, due to the dual S-scheme semiconductor heterostructures comprising multiple components with a staggered band offset. Such a heterostructure exhibits an enhanced photocatalytic performance towards the degradation of organic contaminants, e.g. P-nitrophenol (PNP) and rhodamine B (RhB).
