Addition of methyl group(s) to either or both aromatic rings of fenamic acid (FA) afforded three FA derivatives (1–3), designed to investigate the effect on the polymorphic behavior of these compounds exerted by substitution. A relatively comprehensive polymorph screen led to the discovery of four polymorphs for compound 3, for which substitution took place on both aromatic rings, in contrast to the production of either two or one form(s) for compounds 1 and 2, both of which are mono-substituted. The observation indicated that both substitution position and pattern are important in the polymorphism of these compounds. The thermal properties of each system were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Conformational scans and Hirshfeld surface analyses were performed to study the mechanism of polymorphism and the intermolecular interactions contributing to the stability of each crystal form.

A low-cost seed-assisted route was developed to synthesize plate-like ZSM-5 zeolite. • The key factors governing the synthesis were systematically investigated. • The minimum thickness of the b -axis could reach ∼50 nm. • Reducing b -axis thickness of ZSM-5 zeolite improves its catalytic performance in 1-butene cracking. Plate-like ZSM-5 zeolites, featuring a shortened b -axis that effectively alleviates micropore diffusion limitations, display significant advantages in many catalytic reactions. However, current syntheses rely heavily on expensive organic structure-directing agents (OSDAs) and sometimes toxic fluoride reagents, making a low-cost synthesis route highly desirable. To fulfill this goal, we propose a seed-assisted strategy combined with γ-aminobutyric acid as an additive, which effectively reduces the consumption of OSDA. By tuning key parameters, the b -axis thickness can be precisely controlled during synthesis, the minimum thickness could reach ∼50 nm. Plate-like ZSM-5 zeolites with similar physicochemical properties but different b -axis thicknesses were tested in 1-butene catalytic cracking. Reducing the b -axis thickness could effectively enhance the catalytic activity and stability, the sample (P-6%) with the thinnest b -axis thickness exhibiting the best performance. TGA analysis of spent catalysts confirmed the superior coke tolerance of P-6%, and in situ UV-Vis spectroscopy investigation of organic intermediates formed during the reaction further confirmed its excellent activity and stability. Developing precious-metal-free catalysts for the selective hydrodeoxygenation of biomass-derived 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) to 2,5-dimethylfuran (DMF) is critical yet challenging. Herein, a series of non-noble metal Co@CN-T catalysts were designed and fabricated, which can efficiently catalyze the selective hydrogenolysis of HMF to DMF under mild reaction conditions of 140 °C, with the selectivity of the target product reaching as high as 99%. The Co-N x coordination active sites serve as Lewis acid sites, which can preferentially activate the C=O bond in HMF. Such selective activation promotes the effective hydrogenolysis of the intermediate 2,5-bis(hydroxymethyl)furan (BHMF) to 5-methylfurfuryl alcohol (MFA), reduces intermediate accumulation, and thus guarantees high selectivity toward DMF. In addition, the Co@CN-T catalysts also exhibited excellent stability, and their catalytic activity remained stable without obvious attenuation after five consecutive cycles of reaction. This study offers theoretical insights into the use of non-noble metal catalysts for the hydrodeoxygenation of renewable biomass to produce chemical feedstocks.

The early diagnosis and postoperative monitoring of ovarian cancer rely significantly on the sensitive detection of antigen CA12-5. In this work, a photoelectrochemical immunosensor was developed for the detection of CA12-5, utilizing a CdS/SrTiO3 heterojunction as the photoactive matrix and NiCo2O4 as a quencher probe. The Z-type heterojunction promotes the separation of photogenerated electrons and holes, suppresses the recombination of charge carriers, and thereby significantly enhances the initial photocurrent response. Furthermore, the introduced NiCo2O4 quencher generates steric hindrance and competes effectively with the photosensitive material for light absorption, leading to a reduction in the photocurrent signal. This quenching effect greatly enhances the detection sensitivity for CA12-5. The fabricated immunosensor exhibited excellent selectivity and stability under optimal conditions, achieving a wide linear detection range from 5 pg mL−1 to 50 ng mL−1 and a low detection limit of 1.3 pg mL−1.

The electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) is one of the most promising pathways to achieving carbon neutrality. However, in acidic electrolytes, the CO2RR tends to suffer from competitive hydrogen evolution side reactions. Alkaline electrolytes are typically employed to suppress side reactions and promote the formation of valuable multicarbon (C2+) products (e.g., ethylene(C2H4)). In this study, we fabricated surface-loaded copper cluster catalysts with particle sizes below 5 nm by magnetron sputtering and inert gas condensation in combination with cluster beam deposition. This approach enabled precise control over the catalyst surface structure, allowing for in-depth investigation of the synergistic effects between the catalyst microstructure and its catalytic microenvironment. We demonstrate that the Faradaic efficiency (FE) for CO2-to-C2H4 conversion exceeds 50% across a broad current density range of 50 to 180 mA cm–2 in a flow cell using 1 M KOH electrolyte. Compared with a pristine Cu/PTFE catalyst, the optimized Cu cluster catalyst not only exhibits a significant enhancement in FEC2H4 but also expands the effective current density range. Furthermore, finite element simulations combined with in situ Raman spectroscopy reveal synergistic interactions among interfacial species (e.g., *CO, OH–, and K+). Therefore, this study proposes a general strategy to regulate the dynamic evolution of catalytic interfaces through an initial nanostructure design, thereby opening a promising avenue for the selective conversion of CO2 to ethylene.

For the electrocatalytic oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), the precise regulation of the catalyst surface-interface structure and reactant adsorption is crucial for its activity. Here, a KOH-soaking assisted immersion–electrodeposition strategy is developed to construct a nickel–cobalt bimetallic hydroxide catalyst on nickel foam (NF), denoted as s-NiCo@NF. Importantly, KOH-soaked NF (s-NF) undergoes surface reconstruction and provides abundant nucleation sites, thereby guiding subsequent electrodeposition to form uniformly distributed crystalline-amorphous phases and a short-range ordered crystalline-amorphous interface. Characterization results reveal that the amorphous regions, via interfacial charge transfer, stabilize the high proportion of Ni³ ⁺ (Ni³⁺/Ni²⁺=1.05) and Co³ ⁺ active sites. Notably, s-NiCo@NF exhibits exceptional HMF oxidation reaction (HMFOR) with the low onset potential of 1.25 V ( vs. RHE) and high current density of 108 mA cm⁻² at 1.5 V( vs. RHE). In-situ Raman test shows that the dynamically formed MOOH (M = Ni/Co) crystalline-amorphous interface achieves the structure self-renewal and drives the adsorption-dehydrogenation oxidation mechanism. Moreover, HMF molecule adsorption forms a protective layer that significantly slows the reduction and deactivation of NiOOH during the reaction, offering new insights into active phase stability. Based on the structural regulation induced by the substrate, this work provides a high-performance nickel-based material for biomass electrocatalytic conversion.

Mesoporous copper oxide (CuO) fabricated via mechanochemical milling was employed as a robust catalyst for the efficient synthesis of 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) in a sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) oxidation system. We demonstrate that introducing cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) in the mechanochemical synthesis process successfully creates mesoporosity, reduces the size of CuO nanoparticles, and modulates the ratio between surface oxygen vacancies (O V ) and lattice oxygen (O L ). Owing to its minimized particle size, enlarged pore volume, and elevated O V /O L ratio, the CuO@0.4 CTAB catalyst delivers exceptional catalytic activity and reusability toward 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) oxidation, affording a maximum FDCA yield of 95.2% under optimal reaction conditions. Furthermore, maintaining the solution pH value above 12 greatly inhibits the over-oxidation of FDCA and slows the rapid consumption of NaClO during the reaction. Graphical The efficient synthesis of FDCA from HMF was achieved in the sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) system using mechanochemically synthesized mesoporous CuO. .

Pyridoxal 5′-phosphate (PLP) serves as a dual crosslinker forming Schiff bases and electrostatic interactions. • Nanogels show pH-triggered release: 88.5% at pH 5.0 vs. 23.5% at pH 7.0. • TMX@CS-PLP NGs improve foliar wettability, rainfastness, and insecticidal efficacy. • The biocompatible nanogel platform enables intelligent, eco-friendly pesticide delivery. Conventional pesticide formulations suffer from poor targeting and low active ingredient utilization due to their inability to respond to microenvironmental signals at pest feeding sites. Here, we developed pH-responsive nanogels by crosslinking chitosan with PLP via Schiff base formation and electrostatic interactions using an inverse emulsion method, and loaded them with the neonicotinoid insecticide thiamethoxam (TMX). The resulting TMX@CS-PLP nanogels exhibited spherical morphology with a hydrodynamic diameter of 428.1 nm, a loading capacity of 9.2%, and an encapsulation efficiency of 79.4%. The Schiff base crosslinks imparted pH-dependent degradability: at acidic pH (5.0, simulating pest gut or infection sites), the nanogels released 88.5% of encapsulated TMX over 72 h, whereas only 23.5% was released at neutral pH (7.0, mimicking leaf surface conditions). The nanogel formulation also improved foliar wettability (contact angle reduced from 84.5o to 68.1o) and enhanced rainfastness compared with the technical suspension. In laboratory bioassays against Myzus persicae , TMX@CS-PLP nanogels caused 76.0% mortality after 24 h, significantly higher than the technical suspension (46.7%), while the blank nanogel showed no phytotoxicity or inherent insecticidal activity. These results demonstrate that PLP-crosslinked chitosan nanogels offer a biocompatible, pH-responsive platform for precision pesticide delivery, with enhanced foliar deposition and improved efficacy. Sulfamethoxazole (SMX), a widely used sulfonamide antibiotic, is a persistent aquatic pollutant due to its resistance to conventional treatment. Here, a Cu-ZSM-5/Ti 3 C 2 composite catalyst was fabricated by electrostatic self-assembly for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation. Characterization by XRD, SEM, TEM, XPS, and zeta potential analysis confirmed the successful integration of the components. The catalyst achieved 97.59% removal of 10 mg/L SMX within 30 min. Quenching and EPR results indicated that 1 O 2 was the major reactive species. The enhanced performance under alkaline conditions was associated with the negatively charged composite surface (-38.8 mV at pH 9), the deprotonated state of SMX, and favorable interfacial interactions that may promote preferential oxidation of the isoxazole moiety. Control experiments using a physically mixed sample showed markedly lower activity, especially at pH 11, highlighting the importance of the intimate heterointerface created by self-assembly. The superior activity was attributed to the synergistic interaction between Cu species in Cu-ZSM-5 and Ti-based sites in Ti 3 C 2 . This work provides insight into designing selective PMS activation catalysts for antibiotic-contaminated water treatment.

YAP/TAZ and SMAD1/5 signaling modulate atherosclerosis. These involvements in diabetes-associated endothelial dysfunction remain unexplored, thereby being investigated from different endothelial cells and a total of 102 mice in the current study. Male C57BL/6 mice were fed a high-fat diet (45% kcal% fat, 15 weeks) and orally administered with endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress alleviator 4-phenylbutyric acid (100 mg·kg –1 ·d –1 ) and jatrorrhizine (50 mg·kg –1 ·d –1 ) for 5 weeks. Endothelial cells were cultured with high glucose, ER stress inducer tunicamycin, ER stress alleviators, YAP inhibitor simvastatin, or jatrorrhizine. The mouse aorta was divided into the aortic arch and thoracic aorta regions to investigate the regional difference. Treatment with PBA and jatrorrhizine ameliorated endothelium-dependent relaxations as well as inhibited ER stress, YAP/TAZ-SMAD1/5 signaling and oxidative stress in aortas. Phosphorylation of YAP/TAZ was highly expressed in the thoracic aorta but low in the aortic arch. On the other hand, phosphorylation of SMAD1/5 was upregulated in the inner curvature of the aortic arch but downregulated in the thoracic aorta. In HUVECs, ER stress alleviators significantly inhibited YAP/TAZ-SMAD1/5 signaling and increased NO bioavailability, but the YAP inhibitor did not suppress ER stress. Inhibition of YAP/TAZ downregulated SMAD1/5 signaling under high glucose stimulation, followed by the Akt/eNOS pathway. YAP/TAZ directly interacts with SMAD1/5, and their binding is significantly enhanced under high-glucose conditions. A natural compound, jatrorrhizine, was identified to inhibit YAP/TAZ-SMAD1/5 signaling and protect vascular function in diabetes. To conclude, ER stress activates YAP/TAZ and SMAD1/5 signaling, resulting in endothelial dysfunction in diabetes. Inhibition of YAP/TAZ-SMAD1/5, such as by ER stress alleviators and natural product jatrorrhizine, ameliorates endothelial dysfunction associated with diabetes. These findings support the cross-talk between ER stress and YAP/TAZ-SMAD1/5 as well as their potential as therapeutic targets.

This study presents a high-performance catalyst for sustainable biofuel production, synthesizing NiFe bimetallic catalyst on hierarchical ZSM-5 (NiFe-RH-Z5) using rice husk as a green silicon source and structural template. The resulting material features a multi-scale porous architecture that enhances mass transport and active site accessibility. In the hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) of stearic acid, the optimized 7Ni3Fe-RH-Z5 catalyst achieves complete conversion with 92% selectivity to n-octadecane (C 18 alkane), significantly outperforming monometallic analogues. Comprehensive characterization reveals a synergistic mechanism: Fe species adsorb oxygenated intermediates, while Ni sites dissociate hydrogen, collectively steering the pathway toward selective C O bond cleavage and minimizing carbon loss. Furthermore, molecular dynamics simulations confirm a 3.75-fold increase in the diffusion coefficient of stearic acid within the bio-templated hierarchical pores compared to conventional ZSM-5 (Z5). The reaction mechanism, proceeding through an aldehyde intermediate to the C 18 alkane, is unequivocally verified by in-situ spectroscopic and isotopic experiments. This work provides a sustainable strategy for designing efficient catalysts by simultaneously engineering bimetallic synergy and hierarchical diffusion pathways for advanced biofuel production.
