Metal promotion is a common strategy to improve the hydrogenation activity of oxide catalysts. However, its efficacy is frequently hindered by insufficient hydrogen supply to active sites and the tendency of metal dopants to sinter under high-temperature conditions. Herein, we design a Cu-MXene/ZnZrO x composite catalyst, in which Ti vacancies within the MXene framework anchor Cu, enabling efficient hydrogen activation and subsequent spillover to ZnZrO x . In comparison with the conventional Cu/ZnZrO x catalyst, the Cu-MXene/ZnZrO x structure not only enhances the resistance of Cu species to high-temperature sintering but also significantly promotes the kinetics of hydrogen transfer. Additionally, this structural design facilitates the generation of a higher density of oxygen vacancies (OVs). As expected, the Cu-MXene/ZnZrO x catalyst demonstrates outstanding performance, achieving 12.3% CO 2 conversion and 91.2% methanol selectivity—exceeding all previously reported ZnZrO x -based systems. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations and Diffused reflectance infrared fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) indicate that atomically dispersed Cu sites facilitate H 2 dissociation, while the Cu-MXene interface promotes rapid H spillover to neighboring Zn-Zr sites, enhancing electron transfer and CO 2 reduction kinetics, thereby forming abundant active intermediates of HCOO* and CH 3 O*. This study offers a robust and scalable approach for developing highly efficient catalysts for CO 2 -to-methanol conversion.

A unique Ru/Cu@CN featuring Cu single atoms-spurred Ru clusters on a N-modified carbon support was synthesized. • The hydrogen evolution reaction performance of Ru/Cu@CN was precisely regulated via Cu single-atom electronic networks. • The Ru/Cu@CN-based AEMWE achieves a high current density of 5.4 A cm −2 @2.0 V in 1 M KOH@80 °C. • The Ru/Cu@CN-based AEMWE operates stably at 2 A cm −2 for over 600 h without a significant voltage decay. Developing cost-effective, highly efficient, and durable hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) catalysts is critical for the commercialization of anion exchange membrane water electrolysis (AEMWE). However, this remains a significant challenge due to the over-reliance on platinum-based catalysts, especially when operating at ampere-level current densities. Here, we present a Cu electron-networking strategy to create Cu single atom-stabilized Ru clusters on an N-modified carbon support (Ru/Cu@CN), in which bridged Cu sites can efficiently stabilize Ru clusters and promote uniform dispersion of high-density Ru through strong metal-support interactions while weakening the overly strong Ru H bond via Ru Cu electron transfer, thereby substantially enhancing the HER activity and stability of Ru/Cu@CN. As a result, the Ru/Cu@CN-based AEMWE achieves exceptional current densities of 5.4 A cm −2 at 2.0 V and 3 A cm −2 at 1.79 V in 1 M KOH with a low Ru loading of 0.3 mg cm −2 , fulfilling the US Department of Energy (DOE) 2025 target (3 A cm −2 at <1.8 V) and competing favorably with the state of the art. Moreover, we demonstrate that the Ru/Cu@CN-based AEMWE can be operated at a high current density of 2 A cm −2 for over 600 h without a significant cell voltage decay Ru/Cu@CN thus represents a promising HER catalyst for practical AEMWE applications.

Promising network materials with controllable porosity and tunable structures have demonstrated numerous advantages in oil–water separation applications. However, existing preparation methods generally have problems such as complex processes and adverse environmental impacts. Therefore, inspired by lotus leaves and rose petals, we have successfully designed an efficient oil–water separator based on copper meshes using in situ chemical etching, environmentally friendly fatty acid modification, and mild microwave curing treatment. Characterization results from FESEM, EDX, and XRD demonstrate that the product has high purity and a relatively uniform structure. In addition, this efficient oil–water separator has low surface energy, high hydrophobicity, and excellent oil–water separation efficiency (>98%). Moreover, after aging tests, the product has excellent structural stability and repeatable recyclability. Therefore, this research provides a convenient, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly approach for designing feasible superhydrophobic metal mesh-based devices, highlighting their wide application potential in treating industrial oily wastewater.

Electrochemical CO 2 reduction to syngas driven by renewable energy offers a sustainable alternative to conventional fossil-fuel-based processes, while maintaining a stable H 2 /CO ratio under the inherently fluctuating potentials remains a substantial challenge. In this study, a series of supported Zn catalysts are fabricated by electrodepositing Zn onto Cu foil substrates, with a systematic investigation into the effects of deposition current density (−5 to −20 mA/cm 2 ) and deposition time (10 to 20 min) on catalyst structure and performance. Characterization results reveal that, with increasing deposition parameters, Zn species evolve from discrete nanoplates into an interwoven network of wrinkled structures, accompanied by decreased work function and charge transfer resistance. The synthesized catalysts exhibit a favorable balance in activity toward the electrochemical CO 2 reduction reaction (eCO 2 RR) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), thereby enabling highly tunable syngas production with H 2 /CO ratios ranging from 0.5 to 5.4. Notably, the Cu-Zn catalysts demonstrate remarkable stability in syngas composition, maintaining a nearly constant H 2 /CO ratio across a wide potential window of −1.11 to −1.41 V vs. reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE). Furthermore, the Cu-Zn-10–10 catalyst exhibits excellent durability under fluctuating voltage conditions over 24 h, highlighting its potential for seamless integration with intermittent green electricity. In-situ attenuated total reflection surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy (ATR-SEIRAS) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations indicate that the Cu-Zn bimetallic sites moderately enhance *CO adsorption, inhibiting its rapid desorption. Moreover, the energy barriers of eCO 2 RR and HER show little variation with potential, which collectively ensure the stability of the H 2 /CO ratio within the range of −1.11 to −1.41 V vs. RHE.

Glioblastoma (GBM) remains one of the most lethal intracranial malignancies due to its diffuse invasiveness and inevitable recurrence. Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) offers a noninvasive strategy for deep-tissue tumor ablation; however, its efficacy is often limited by rapid electron–hole recombination in conventional sonosensitizers, resulting in insufficient reactive oxygen species (ROS). In this study, a biomimetic nanosonosensitizer is rationally engineered via synergistic type II heterojunction interface construction and Cu─N coordination electronic activation. By anchoring Cu─N coordinated carbon dots (Cu-CDs) onto two-dimensional (2D) nanosheets, the compact heterojunction enables spatial charge separation, while Cu─N motifs act as kinetic promoters to accelerate interfacial electron transfer. This co-engineering strategy markedly enhances ultrasound (US) -triggered multi-ROS generation, leading to amplified oxidative stress. Biologically, intracellular copper overload triggers cuproptosis via lipoylated protein aggregation, whereas ROS burst induces PANoptosis-like cell death. Importantly, the synergistic death programs promote robust immunogenic cell death (ICD) with elevated Damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) release/exposur, thereby activating antitumor immunity and contributing to enhanced therapeutic efficacy against GBM. This work provides new insights into the rational design of highly efficient sonosensitizers and offers new dimensions for precision SDT-based glioma sono-immunotherapy.

Two Cu/Mo 2 C catalysts with different interfacial structures are synthesized to reveal how synthesis routes control CO 2 hydrogenation selectivity. • 5Cu/Mo 2 C‑IWI achieves 85.7% methanol selectivity and STY of 53.7 mg MeOH ·g cat −1 ·h −1 , outperforming its doped counterpart that predominantly yields CO and CH 4 . • Moderate metal‑support interaction over catalyst stabilizes Cu δ+ /Mo 6+ for CO 2 conversion to methanol. • In situ DRIFTS verified catalysts follow dual formate-carboxylate pathway, and Cu/Mo 2 C interfacial structure regulates intermediates evolution to determine final product distribution. The conversion of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) into methanol using renewable energy has dual energy and environmental significance. Molybdenum carbide (Mo 2 C) exhibits excellent CO 2 activation ability and thermal stability, but it is still difficult to achieve high methanol selectivity for catalysts supported on it, and the structure-activity relationship between interface structure and selectivity is still unclear. Here, Cu/Mo 2 C-IWI and Cu@Mo 2 C catalysts were fabricated via incipient wetness impregnation and in situ doping strategies, respectively, to investigate the effect of different Cu/Mo 2 C interfaces on product selectivity. Among them, Cu/Mo 2 C-IWI exhibited high methanol selectivity of 85.7% with a space-time yield of 53.7 mg MeOH ·g cat −1 ·h −1 (230 ℃, 3 MPa), whereas Cu@Mo 2 C predominantly produced CH 4 and CO. Combined X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Auger electron spectroscopy results revealed that moderate metal-support interactions in Cu/Mo 2 C-IWI stabilized the higher valence states of Cu δ+ and Mo 6+ species, which are critical for stabilizing formate (HCOO*) and carboxylate (*COOH) intermediates. In contrast, abundant Mo 2+ species and rich oxygen vacancies on Cu@Mo 2 C facilitated the cleavage of C–O bonds, thus promoting CO and CH 4 formation. In situ diffuse reflectance infrared spectroscopy ( in situ DRIFTS) verified that both catalysts follow a dual-path reaction mechanism involving formate and carboxylate intermediates, and interfacial structure dominates the evolution of reaction intermediates and final product distribution. This study establishes a clear correlation among synthesis strategy, interfacial structure and catalytic selectivity, and demonstrates that constructing surface Cu/Mo 2 C interfaces serves as a rational design principle for highly selective hydrogenation of CO 2 to methanol. Methamphetamine (METH) is a potent psychostimulant with a high potential for addiction, ranking among the most prevalent and frequently abused illicit substances worldwide. Thus, the development of rapid and precise methodologies for METH detection is essential for law enforcement and public health monitoring. This study reported the first construction of a molecularly imprinted fluorescence sensor utilizing EDTA-Cu quantum dots (EDTA-Cu QDs-MIP) for the fluorescence quantification of methamphetamine. The sensor displayed a linear response within a concentration range spanning from 53 to 371 nM, achieving a limit of detection (LOD) equal to 20.6 nM through fluorescence spectroscopy. Validation with real-world samples confirmed the sensor's high accuracy, with recovery rates in the range from 97.2 to 104.4 %. This study not only broadens the scope of QDs in chemical detection but also introduces a strong and portable platform for forensic investigations and on-site screening of illicit drugs.

Background Cuproptosis, a novel cell death pathway mediated by ferredoxin 1 (FDX1) and protein lipoylation, has emerged as a valuable target in cancer therapy. Although the findings of previous research have indicated a potential correlation between p53 and cuproptosis, the precise role and underlying mechanisms of p53 in cuproptosis, particularly within the context of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), remain unclear. Methods To evaluate cuproptosis, three HCC cell lines (HepG2, PLC/PRF/5, and Hep3B2.1-7) with distinct p53 statuses were treated with elesclomol-Cu. p53 overexpression/knockdown, siRNA-mediated ferredoxin reductase (FDXR)/FDX1 knockdown, and the p53 activators CP-31398 and nutlin-3 were employed to elucidate the associated molecular mechanisms. Cell viability, protein expression [FDX1, dihydrolipoyl transacetylase (DLAT), FDXR], and DLAT oligomerization were assessed via Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8), western blotting, and immunofluorescence analyses. A PLC/PRF/5 xenograft mouse model was used to assess combined the therapeutic efficacy of elesclomol-Cu and CP-31398. Results Elesclomol-Cu triggered cuproptosis in HCC cells, as evidenced by a dose-dependent suppression of proliferation, FDX1 upregulation, DLAT oligomerization, and rescue by the copper chelator tetrathiomolybdate (TTM). p53 activation enhanced FDXR expression, promoting FDX1 upregulation and subsequent DLAT oligomerization, thereby sensitizing HCC cells to elesclomol-Cu, whereas FDXR knockdown reversed these effects, demonstrating its role in p53-mediated potentiation of cuproptosis sensitivity. In mutant p53-R249S cells, CP-31398 functioned synergistically with elesclomol-Cu to suppress proliferation. In vivo , elesclomol-Cu and CP-31398 combination therapy significantly reduced tumor growth and Ki67 expression whilst upregulating FDXR levels. Conclusions These findings revealed that p53 enhances elesclomol-Cu-induced cuproptosis in HCC via FDXR-mediated FDX1 upregulation. This study provides mechanistic insights into p53’s role in cuproptosis and may serve as a basis for targeting copper metabolism in therapeutic strategies for HCC.

Mo alloys have emerged as a promising biodegradable metallic material due to its inherent biocompatibility and mechanical robustness. However, its clinical translation is limited by slow degradation kinetics and intrinsic brittleness. In this study, we propose a powder metallurgy-based strategy to develop immiscible Mo-Cu alloys that overcome these challenges. Cu is introduced as alloying element which due to higher corrosion potential, excellent plasticity and antimicrobial properties. The optimized Mo-Cu alloy shows a notable increase in strength by 150 MPa while maintaining ductility. Moreover, the degradation rate nearly doubles from 2.553×10 -2 to 4.765×10 -2 mm/y) due to microstructural refinement and galvanic effects. In vitro studies further confirm the biocompatibility and enhanced antibacterial performance of Mo-Cu alloys. This work provides a practical pathway for designing next-generation biodegradable implants based on immiscible alloy systems.

In this study, a novel cuprous ion (Cu + ) complexed polyarylate (PAR) membrane was developed. Polymers with vary ratios of cinchoninic unit were prepared by copolymerizing of dibenzoic chloride and bicinchoninic acid (BCA) that can coordinate with Cu + . The resultant functional PARs with differing ratios of BCA unit were casting to form ultrafiltration membranes using non-solvent induced phase transition (NIPs) method, then the membrane was treated with Cu + solution to form a metal cross-linking structure, then the membrane pore size was further shrunk. The coordination between Cu + and the PARs containing BCA units were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), it was also calculated and analyzed by simulations and visualizations. Compared with the un-treated membrane, it can be found that the rejection rate of the membranes treated with Cu + was largely improved (the rejection rates of Methyl Blue (MB), Congo Red (CR) and Evans Blue (EB) were enhanced from 75 % to 93 %, 91 % to 99.99 % and 83 % to 99.99 %, respectively), while exerting a minimal effect on the water permeance. The present work provides a new strategy for the development and application of metal ion complexation in the modification of ultrafiltration (UF) membranes.

Cuproptosis, a newly discovered copper-dependent programmed cell death pathway, represents a promising approach for anticancer therapy. However, the efficacy of cuproptosis critically depends on intracellular copper accumulation. Traditional copper ionophores have limited therapeutic efficacy due to their reliance on serum copper levels. Therefore, the development of novel copper ionophores to enhance intracellular copper levels is urgently needed. In this study, we targeted a melanoma model and pioneered the application of Bis(2-hydroxyethyl)dithiocarbamic acid copper(II) [Cu(HEDTC)2] as a highly efficient copper ionophore for inducing cuproptosis in B16 melanoma cells. Compared to conventional copper ionophores, Cu(HEDTC)2exhibits superior intracellular copper delivery efficiency, thereby enhancing the induction of cuproptosis. We further constructed a Cu(HEDTC)2@Soluplus-nanomicelle (CS NM) system designed to disrupt copper ion homeostasis in tumor cells and amplify cuproptosis. In this system, Cu(HEDTC)2, as a novel copper ionophore, significantly enhanced the copper level in B16 melanoma cells. Upon cellular internalization, CS NM underwent degradation and released copper ions, which subsequently triggered cuproptosis by causing abnormal aggregation of mitochondrial lipoylated proteins. This study provides a new experimental foundation and potential therapeutic strategy for cuproptosis-based cancer treatment.

Chemoselective hydrogenation of aromatic nitro compounds to the corresponding anilines is an environmentally benign technology for the production of key intermediates in manufacturing of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, dyes and fine chemicals. Non-noble metal Cu-based catalysts have been reported as a low-cost alternative but suffer from poor activity. Herein, by fabricating nickel oxide promoted Cu catalysts, a promoted activity was obtained in supported Cu-Ni bimetal catalyst system. Characterizations such as H 2 -TPR and XPS indicate a strong interaction between Cu and Ni, which contributes to its high activity and selectivity in hydrogenation of p -chloronitrobenzene ( p -CNB) to p -chloroaniline ( p -CAN). Control experiments suggest that either monometallic copper or pure nickel oxide is less active for the reaction but the interaction of NiO x with Cu generates much more active species, resulting in significantly improved catalytic reactivity and selectivity. The activity was found to be highly dependent on the contents of Cu 0 & Cu + in Cu-Ni bimetal catalyst, as the specific reaction rates for hydrogenation of p -CNB grew linearly with the increment of Cu 0 & Cu + loadings. Kinetic studies and in-situ DRIFTS of p -CNB imply the 10Cu-5Ni/AlSBA-R catalyst possesses good capacity for the activation of hydrogen and nitro group, leading to high p -CNB conversion and p -CAN production. The present work provides a good example for understanding the interaction between Cu and nickel oxides, and helps to develop highly efficient non-noble metal catalysts for selective hydrogenation of aromatic nitro compounds to corresponding anilines.
