Energy depletion is one of the significant threats to global development. To increase the usability of clean energy, the energy storage performance of dielectric materials must be urgently enhanced. Semicrystalline ferroelectric polymer (PVDF) is the most promising candidate for the next generation of flexible dielectric materials thanks to its relatively high energy storage density. In this work, high-entropy spinel ferrite (La0.14Ce0.14Mn0.14Zr0.14Cu0.14Ca0.14Ni0.14Fe2O4) nanofibers (abbreviated 7FO NFs) were prepared by the sol-gel and electrostatic spinning methods, then blended with PVDF to prepare composite films using the coating method. A magnetic field was used to control the orientation distribution of the high-entropy spinel nanofibers in the PVDF matrix. We investigated the effects of the applied magnetic field and the content of high-entropy spinel ferrite on the structure, dielectric, and energy storage properties of the PVDF substrate films. The 3 vol% 7FO/PVDF film treated in a 0.8 T magnetic field for 3 min exhibited a good overall performance. The maximum discharge energy density was 6.23 J/cm3at 275 kV/mm and the efficiency was 58% with 51%β-phase content. In addition, the dielectric constant and dielectric loss were 13.3 and 0.035, respectively, at a frequency of 1 kHz.Keywords:dielectric constant;energy storage;high-entropy materials;PVDF-nanocomposites

Hybrid polyvinylidene fluoride-silica-hexadecyltrimethoxysilane (PVDF-SiO 2 -HDTMS) membranes were fabricated via a non-solvent-induced phase-inversion method to create stable hollow-fiber membranes for use in the membrane contact absorption of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ). The surface properties, performance characteristics, and long-term performance stability of the prepared membranes were compared and analyzed. The outer surfaces of the prepared membranes were superhydrophobic because of the formation of rough nanoscale microstructures on the surfaces and their low surface free energy. The addition of inorganic nanoparticles improved the mechanical strength of the PVDF-SiO 2 -HDTMS. Long-term stable operation experiments were carried out with a mixed inlet gas (CO 2 /N 2 = 19/81, v/v) at a flow rate of 20 mL/min. The absorbent liquid in these experiments was 1 mol/L diethanolamine (DEA) at a flow rate of 50 mL/min. The mass transfer flux of CO 2 through the PVDF-SiO 2 -HDTMS membrane decreased from an initial value of 2.39 × 10 –3 mol/m 2 s to 2.31 × 10 –3 mol/m 2 s, a decrease of 3% after 20 days. The addition of highly stable and hydrophobic inorganic nanoparticles prevented pore wetting and structural damage to the membrane. The PVDF-SiO 2 -HDTMS membrane was found to have excellent long-term stable performance in absorbing CO 2 .

Growing demand for efficient and economical cooling for indoor as well as outdoor applications, especially personal cooling in outdoor environments, is a major global challenge today. Currently, tailored optical structures with spectral selectivity are being used as cooling strategies. However, developing these photonic structures generally requires sophisticated multi-step manufacturing processes and use of multiple solvents which limits their acceptability for large-scale production and cost-effectiveness. Therefore, for the first time, herein we report the fabrication of nanosphere-structured hierarchically porous poly (vinylidene fluoride- co -hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) fibrous fabric via a facile one-step electrospinning process based on water vapor-induced phase separation (WVIPS) technique using single solvent. The fabricated fabric with interconnected nanospheres structure and hierarchically porous fibers possessed large roughness and high specific surface area. Cooling performance of the fabricated PVDF-HFP fabrics was evaluated using skin simulators to mimic human body. The as-prepared PVDF-HFP fabric exhibits a superior average solar reflectance (∼93.7 %) and infrared emittance (∼91.9 %), yielding a temperature drop of ∼19.8 °C and ∼13.2 °C compared to the bare skin simulator and the one covered with cotton fabric, respectively, under solar intensity of ∼950 W m −2 . Additionally, excellent hydrophobicity and adsorption make designed fabrics potentially suitable materials for not only radiative cooling but also for waterproof and filtration applications.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) modification and composite to chase high adsorption capacity and desorption efficiency for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) capture are a great challenge work. Seeking a suitable strategy to simultaneously promote the adsorption capacity and regeneration efficiency of MOFs is a significant practical challenge in this context. Herein, novel heat-conducting MOFs (HKUST-1) composite films were prepared for efficient and synchronous improvement of adsorption affinity and desorption efficiency. In our case, bulk Boron nitride (BN) was exfoliated into BN nano-sheets (BNNS), which were then spread as flakes on PVDF nanofibers to form a conductive network (BNNS/PVDF film, which was abbreviated as B/P film). With the aid of citric acid (CA) modification, HKUST-1 crystals were dispersed-grown on modified B/P (mB/P) film, resulting in the formation of a hierarchical pore structure in HK-mB/P film with a relatively high MOFs loading amount (45.8 wt%) and surface area (448 m 2 /g). Performance evaluation experiments showed that the toluene adsorption and desorption rates of the HK-mB 0.4 /P 0.6 film were 5.5 and 5.3 times higher than those of the powder HKUST-1, respectively. The fast adsorption rate could be ascribed to the constructed heat-conducting network and porous stacked nanofibers. Furthermore, its adsorption capacity for toluene was significantly increased up to 4.69 mmol/g at low pressure ( P / P 0 = 0.01), which was approximately-two times higher than that of pure HKUST-1. This merit was mainly attributed to the newly formed interface between HKUST-1 and mBNNS, which could strengthen the adsorption affinity for toluene by the generated unsaturated metal sites of (BNNS-CA-O|Cu|O-ligand) and π-π attraction of B-N bonds. Besides, the HK-mB 0.4 /P 0.6 film also displayed good cycling performance, with only a 3–4 % decrease in activity observed after five consecutive cycles.

The polymeric composite films incorporating inorganic lead halide perovskite quantum dots (CsPbX 3 QDs, X = Cl, Br or I) are promising color conversion layers for wide gamut display devices such as Mini-LED backlight-based televisions. However, the relatively low emission efficiency and poor stability of these composite films present significant challenges for practical applications. In this study, we present a novel low-temperature in-situ crystallization strategy to prepare CsPbBr 3 /PVDF composite film through a rational designed of precursor, solvent and polymer structure. The strong interaction between PVDF and perovskite QDs via Lewis acid-base interaction allows for precise control over the crystallization and passivation of perovskite QDs. The optimized CsPbBr 3 /PVDF film exhibits bright emission with a photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of up to 70 %, surpassing those of other CsPbBr 3 /polymers counterparts. Furthermore, the films demonstrate remarkable stability, retaining over 90 % of their original PLQY even after 50 days of aging under various environmental conditions such as exposure to air, immersion in water and blue light irradiation. By integrating the green and red emissive CsPbX 3 /PVDF films with blue Mini-LEDs, we successfully fabricate a prototype liquid crystal display (LCD) with an outstanding wide color gamut (128 % of NTSC 1931). These performances outperform that of commercial white-LED-based LCDs, highlighting the immense potential of CsPbX 3 /PVDF for high-definition display applications in the future.

The treatment of oily wastewater containing water-soluble dyes has drawn attention and become a thorny issue. Aiming at removing oil droplets and dyes from wastewater, it is reported in this work the design of polyelectrolyte deposited dual functional membrane with superior separation and degradation capabilities. The hyperbranched polyamide-amine (HPAMAM) was combined with tetra (4-carboxyphenyl) porphyrin (TCPP) and phytic acid (PA) through electrostatic interaction to form an eco-friendly polyelectrolyte complex by one-step self-assembly method. Relying on affluent amine group and unique cavity structure as well as wide range of delocalized π-electron systems, TCPP@HPAMAM@PA possesses robust water binding ability and intense absorption in the visible region, endowing PVDF membrane with superhydrophilicity/underwater superoleophobicity, oil resistance and superior photocatalytic degradation properties. The dual functional TCPP@HPAMAM@PA/PVDF membranes can realize superb removal of oil droplets (oil rejection > 99 %) at high flux recovery rate with several cycles. Furthermore, the degradation efficiency of rhodamine B (RhB) and Methyl blue (MB) reaches 93 % and 96 % respectively, showing standout photocatalytic degradation performance. A facile and low-energy strategy for the modification of commercial PVDF membranes is proposed, which is not only consistent with the concept of green chemistry but also has a broad application in the separation of complex oily wastewater systems.

Polymer-based dielectric capacitors are well recognized for high energy density and efficiency. However, the energy density is restricted by the deterioration of breakdown strength with excessive addition of inorganic fillers. Herein, an innovative design of the lamellar-structured BiFeO 3 @TiO 2 (BFO@TO) fillers is proposed and a small amount of BFO@TO is added into P(VDF-HFP)/PMMA blended polymer to fabricate BFO@TO-P(VDF-HFP)/PMMA composites, which delivers an outstanding energy density of 19.3 J cm −3 at 549.2 kV mm −1 . The filler possesses a BFO/TO/BFO triple-layered structure. Due to the different Fermi level, electrons are injected from TO into BFO to form electron accumulation layer and construct the heterojunction electric fields between TO and BFO layers. Heterojunction electric fields at two interfaces produced by the triple-layered structure are opposite. The opposite double heterojunction can withstand larger external electric field and improve the breakdown strength. Besides, BFO, as a narrow bandgap semiconductor, is easier for electrons and holes to separate, which further widens the width of the built-in electric field and reduces the dielectric breakdown. Electric field distribution simulations intuitively confirm the enhancement of the breakdown strength. The results provide an effective strategy to address the critical issue of improving the breakdown strength for high energy storage capability.

Despite membrane separation technology has been extensively implemented in various field, the fouling caused by bacterial and organic dye seriously impair the performance and lifespan of the membrane, the anti-fouling modification of the membrane is still a challenging. In this work, the antibacterial and self-cleaning poly (vinylidene fluoride-chlorotrifluoroethylene) (PVDF-CTFE) mixed matrix membranes were prepared by non-solvent induced phase separation method using self-made graphite carbon nitride nanosheet wrapped copper phosphide (Cu x [email protected] 3 N 4 ) as modification additive. The sequel of the incorporated Cu x [email protected] 3 N 4 nanosheet content on the morphology, pore structure and physicochemical structure of membranes was investigated in terms of pure water flux, anti-fouling and antibacterial properties. The results showed that the addition of Cu x [email protected] 3 N 4 nanosheets not only improved the hydrophilicity and mechanical property of the membranes, but also enabled PVDF-CTFE membrane with the ability of inactivation bacteria and self-cleaning, which significantly enhanced the anti-fouling performance of PVDF-CTFE membrane in complex environment. When the amount of Cu x [email protected] 3 N 4 reached 2 wt%, the mixed matrix membrane possessed outstanding comprehensive performance with the pure water flux of 641.1 L m −2 h −1 , antibacterial rate over 99% and self-cleaning under simulated sunlight, making the mixed matrix membrane a potential choice for wastewater treatment . In conclusion, this study enlightened the fabrication strategy of multifunctional mixed matrix membranes.

In response to global climate change, most countries have set carbon reduction targets. Mixed matrix membranes (MMMs), which combine the characteristics of inorganic nanofillers and organic matrices, have received wide attentions because of their good permeability and selective performance for the separation of CO 2 from industrial waste gases. However, the poor dispersion, compatibility and interfacial defects often lead to poor gas separation performance. In this paper, according to the dissolution-diffusion and Lewis acid-base theories, inorganic filler of amino-functionalized Bentonite (APTES-Bentonite) with -NH 2 was firstly synthesized to improve the affinity of CO 2 . Then, the dual-functionalized MMMs of APTES-Bentonite/PVDF (A-B/P MMMs) was prepared and adopted for the separation of CO 2 /CH 4 and CO 2 /N 2 , showing the increase of 87.76% and 75.31% compared to the pristine PVDF membrane, respectively. These excellent performances were attributed to the synergistic effect of APTES-Bentonite with -NH 2 groups and PVDF with -F groups, which provide a dual-functional transport pathway for CO 2 molecules due to the interactions of host-guest. Overall, the customized A-B/P MMMs offer superior CO 2 separation performance, which provides some valuable references for large-scale CO 2 capture studies.

Thin-film composite (TFC) nanofiltration (NF) has been widely utilized to separate monovalent ions from multivalent ions in industrial wastewater treatment. In this study, the pore properties of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) substrates were adjusted by varying the content and molecular weights (MWs) of porogen polyethylene glycol (PEG). The TFC membranes fabricated on different substrates showed distinguishable permeance and selectivity. The PVDF membranes with 2 kDa PEG of 0.5–3.0 wt % and 20 kDa PEG of 0.2 wt % were fit for the substrates of the TFC NF membrane. These substrates are usually characterized by evenly distributed surface pores with porosity of 7–12% and tiny finger-like pores of less than 15 μm length. Such pore structures in the substrates are fit for the storage and migration of amine monomers, resulting in a defect-free PA layer. In a 6 h filtration of mining wastewater using an optimized TFC membrane, the permeance remained around 5 LMH/bar and the separation factor of SO42–/Cl– stayed over 13.39 with a maximum value over 30. This study shed light on improving NF membrane performance by simply adjusting the porogen in the substrate casting solution.

The photocatalytic degradation of minocycline was studied by using polyvinylidene fluoride–polyvinylpyrrolidone–TiO2(PVDF–PVP–TiO2) fiber mats prepared by an electrospinning technology. The influences of the TiO2dosage, minocycline concentrations, inorganic anions, pH values, and dissolved organic matter (DOM) concentrations on the degradation kinetics were investigated. A mass of 97% minocycline was degraded in 45 min at 5% TiO2dosage. The corresponding decomposition rate constant was 0.069 min−1. The inorganic anions affected the minocycline decomposition in the order of HCO3−> Cl−> SO42−> NO3−, which was confirmed by the results of electron spin resonance (ESR) spectra. The lowest electrical energy per order (EEO) was 6.5 Wh/L. Over five cycles, there was no change in the photocatalytic performance of the degrading minocycline. Those investigations suggested that effective degradation of minocycline could be reached in the PVDF–PVP–TiO2fiber mats with a low energy consumption, good separation and, good recovery. Three photocatalytic decomposition pathways of minocycline were proposed: (i) hydroxyl substitution of the acylamino group; (ii) hydroxyl substitution of the amide group, and (iii) a cleavage of the methyl groups and further oxidation of the amino group by OH. Potential risks caused by TP159 and TP99 should not be ignored, while the TP90 are nontoxic. Tests indicated that the toxicity of the photocatalytic process may be persistent if minocycline and its products were not mineralized completely. Keywords:electrospinning;minocycline;photocatalytic oxidation;PVDF–PVP–TiO2fiber mats;degradation mechanism

As a well-known natural and innocuous plant constituent, cellulose consists of abundant hydroxyl groups and can tightly adsorb onto material surfaces hydrogen bonding, resulting in a superhydrophilic surface. In this work, the hydrophobic polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes were modified by immersing them in cellulose hydrogel using a simple one-step process. The modified PVDF membrane exhibited excellent resistance to fouling and oil adhesion, making it highly effective in separating various oil-in-water emulsions. The cellulose-modified PVDF membranes achieved a high oil rejection rate (>99 %) and a maximum separation flux of 2675.2 L·m −2 ·h −1 . Furthermore, even an oil-in-water emulsion containing bovine serum albumin maintained a steady permeation flux after four filtration cycles. Additionally, these cellulose-modified PVDF membranes demonstrated excellent underwater superoleophobicity across a wide range of pH levels and high saline conditions. Overall, these cellulose-modified superhydrophilic PVDF membranes are sustainable, environmentally friendly, easily scalable, and hold great promise for practical applications in oily wastewater treatment.
