Room temperature HCHO catalytic oxidation over inert support loaded Pd catalysts remains a significant challenge. Herein, a series of alkali Na (1–4 wt.%) modified 1Pd/SBA-15 catalysts were prepared by a co-impregnation method and used for HCHO catalytic oxidation at room temperature. Results showed that alkali Na significantly improved the HCHO oxidation performance of 1Pd/SBA-15 and the optimal Na loading was 2 wt.%. BET, XRD, STEM, XPS, H 2 -TPR, O 2 -TPD and in situ DRIFTS were performed to reveal the promotion role of alkali Na. As a consequence, alkali Na addition could stabilize well dispersed Pd particles which then facilitated the O 2 activation and accelerated the decomposition of formate intermediates species, thus a superior HCHO catalytic oxidation performance was obtained. This study first clearly illustrated the promotion mechanism of alkali Na without the implication of active support and provides an efficient and facile way to achieve high dispersion of Pd particles on inert support and tremendously expands the selected range of supports for room temperature HCHO catalytic oxidation. Graphical Alkali promoted : A series of Na alkali-promoted 1Pd/SBA15 catalysts were prepared by a co-impregnation method and tested for HCHO catalytic oxidation at room temperature. Addition of alkali Na stabilized well-dispersed Pd particles which facilitated O 2 activation and accelerated formate species decomposition rate, leading to superior HCHO catalytic oxidation performance of 2Na-1Pd/SBA-15.

High-entropy alloys (HEAs), composed of multiple principal elements in near-equiatomic ratios, offer vast compositional tunability and synergistic electronic interactions for heterogeneous catalysis. Here, we report a nitrogen-doped carbon nanofiber (N–CNF) encapsulated HEA catalyst, Fe 26 Co 13 Ni 24 Cr 10 Cu 17 Pd 10 @N–CNFs, synthesized via electrospinning followed by controlled thermal treatment. The resulting ~16 nm HEA nanoparticles are uniformly embedded within a conductive N-doped carbon matrix, forming a robust core–shell architecture. Despite the low Pd loading (10 at%), the catalyst achieves 99% nitrobenzene conversion with >99% aniline selectivity at 60°C—an 8.9-fold activity enhancement over Pd@N–CNFs. Furthermore, it retains >95% conversion after five consecutive reaction cycles, underscoring its excellent structural and catalytic durability. The outstanding performance arises from Pd-induced electronic modulation within the entropy-stabilized multimetallic matrix and synergistic confinement by the N-doped carbon framework. This work establishes a cost-efficient and durable HEA-based platform for selective hydrogenation, offering new insights into entropy-driven electronic regulation in multimetallic catalysts.

The cGAS-STING pathway is an essential element of antitumor immunity. However, its activation triggers immunosuppressive molecules like PD-L1 to feedback upregulate, which limits therapeutic efficacy. Herein, we develop a programmable tumor-activated nanoCRISPR platform (PATROL) that co-delivers CRISPR/Cas13a-CARM1 plasmid and PD-L1 blocking peptide to stimulate the cGAS-STING-IFN-I pathway and diminish its immunosuppressive feedback loop, thereby improving antitumor efficacy. PATROL achieves enhanced circulation longevity, tumor-targeting specificity, and tissue penetration due to surface modifications such as PEGylation, hyaluronic acid, and TAT peptide. At the same time, its PD-L1 blocking peptide on the surface facilitates drug accumulation with the tumor and inhibits PD-L1 activity. Following exposure to tumor-associated hyaluronidase, PATROL undergoes enzyme-triggered disassembly, surface charge reversal, rapid lysosomal escape, and significant CARM1 knockdown, leading to enhanced cGAS-STING signaling. This bifunctional approach cooperatively reprograms the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment, increases cytotoxic T lymphocyte infiltration, and elicits powerful antitumor immunity by simultaneously blocking PD-1/PD-L1 signaling and activating the cGAS-STING-IFN-I pathway. PATROL exhibits significant antitumor efficacy in B16-F10 melanoma models, successfully inhibiting tumor growth and prolonging survival. As consequently, PATROL presents an innovative therapeutic strategy that achieves effective tumor suppression by enhancing antitumor immunity through dual-pathway activation.

Precise structural modulation of Pt-based nanozymes is an effective strategy to enhance the catalytic performance for biochemical sensing. Herein, we report three-dimensional (3D) hollow nanospheres (HNPs) featuring highly dispersed Pd/Pt atomic sites as an efficient peroxidase mimic. The Pd/Pt-HNPs exhibit markedly enhanced peroxidase-like activity, which we attribute to the synergistic catalysis of bimetallic active centers combined with the hollow 3D architecture. Kinetic analysis reveals a Vmax of 20.29 × 10–8 M·s–1, corresponding to an activity ∼10-fold higher than that of Pd-HNPs and ∼1.6-fold higher than that of Pt-HNPs. Notably, the Kcat reaches 5.44 × 105·s–1, which is approximately 103-fold greater than that of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) under the same assay conditions. Leveraging this excellent catalytic efficiency, we established an ultrasensitive colorimetric platform for H2O2 quantification (limit of detection (LOD): 1.14 μM by calculation; visual limit of detection (vLOD): 2.5 μM by naked-eye inspection), exhibiting a detection range from 2.5 μM to 12.8 mM. The Pd/Pt-HNPs-based method delivers a sensitivity 55 and 13-fold higher than those of HRP and a confirmatory method, respectively. The assay further demonstrates reliable accuracy in complex food matrices (milk, dried bean curds, and chicken feet), affording good recovery rates (91.36–115.71%) with a coefficient of variation in the range from 4.06 to 15.41% and low susceptibility to interference. This study highlights the synergistic effect of Pd/Pt bimetallic sites and nanoengineering in enhancing nanozyme catalysis, enabling sensitive and reliable detection in complex food matrices.

The Pd NPs@MXene/PVA hydrogel strain sensor achieves an ultra-wide strain range from 10% to 1680% with high gauge factor of 18.4. • The sensor demonstrates self-healing with 98.4% efficiency in 25 s, retains 75% of tensile strength and 89% strain capacity. • Hydrogen bonding and Pd NPs enhance mechanical performance, with tensile strength of 60.8 kPa and fracture strain of 1680%. • Sensor array integrated into smart glove enables object grasping and 0–9 gesture recognition, showing potential for human–machine interfaces. Hydrogel strain sensors are promising for electronic skin due to their flexibility and biocompatibility, yet balancing mechanical robustness, sensing performance, and self-healing remains challenging. Here, we develop an optimized Pd nanoparticles (Pd NPs)-decorated MXene/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogel strain sensor (Pd NPs@MXene/PVA) with enhanced multifunctionality. Mechanically, the hydrogel achieves a tensile strength of 60.8 kPa and fracture strain of 1680%, outperforming pristine PVA hydrogel (17.3 kPa, 800%) through dynamic borate ester, hydrogen bonding and Pd NP reinforcement. For sensing, it provides repeatable responses over 100%–1500% strain, with cyclic stability validated at 200%–600%. Detectable responses from 10% to 1680% were observed under monotonic loading, and the maximum GF reached 18.4 in the 1200%–1680% regime. The device responds rapidly (600–700 ms) and was evaluated over 5000 stretching–releasing cycles, with the response becoming markedly more repeatable after an initial conditioning stage. Notably, it achieves 98.4% electrical self-healing efficiency within 25 s, retaining 75% tensile strength and 89% strain capability after healing, which is attributed to the dynamic borate ester bonds between PVA chains and tetraborate ions, together with reversible hydrogen-bonding interactions among PVA, MXene, and Pd NPs. Integrated into a smart glove, the sensor array distinguishes object grasps, generates distinguishable resistance patterns for digit gestures 0–9 and achieves high-accuracy MLP-based classification of digits 1–9, validating its practicality for human-machine interfaces. This work advances hydrogel sensor design by integrating Pd NPs for optimized multifunctionality, offering a robust platform for next-generation electronic skin. The rational design of catalyst supports to achieve optimal
metal-support
interaction is critical for advancing Pd-based electrocatalysts for
formic acid oxidation. Herein, we reported a thermally driven strategy
to modulate the chemical state of sulfur on carbon support derived
from propanethiol-functionalized carbon, which enabled bidirectional
tuning of the Pd state and fundamentally altered the reaction pathway
of formic acid oxidation. With an optimized calcination temperature
of 700 ° C, the Pd/SC-700 catalyst, featuring an exclusive thiophenic
sulfur configuration, exhibited the strongest metal-support interaction,
delivering an exceptional mass activity of 2222 mA mg –1 (8.3 times that of Pd/C), considerably superior stability (14 times
that of Pd/C), and faster charge-transfer kinetics for formic acid
oxidation. Gas chromatography analysis revealed a marked shift in
reaction selectivity. Although CO remained the dominant product, its
fraction dropped from 95.4% on Pd/C to 73.2% on Pd/SC-700, while the
emergence of 7.2% CO 2 directly confirmed activation of
the direct dehydrogenation pathway. Kinetic analysis showed a linear j – v 0.5 relationship ( j = 0.62 + 0.204 v 0.5 ), indicating
diffusion-controlled behavior with enhanced mass transport. This work
provides a new strategy of thiol modification followed by thermal
treatment that offers a simple yet scalable route to synthesize high-performance
anode electrocatalysts for direct formic acid fuel cells.

Electrochemical ammonia synthesis is considered as an alternative sustainable method to the traditional Haber–Bosch process because of the reduced energy consumption and mild operation conditions. The key is to design efficient electrocatalysts for facile adsorption and activation of nitrogen. Herein, a nanoporous Pd film with a tunable pore size has been in situ grown on Ni foam (nPd/NF) via a micelle-assisted replacement method using NF as a reductant and substrate, where polystyrene-b-poly(ethylene oxide) and 1,3,5-triisopropylbenzene serve as a pore-forming agent and a swelling agent, respectively. Combining the continuous large nanoporous structure and self-supported properties, the obtained nPd/NF exhibits excellent catalytic performance for ammonia synthesis with a high NH3 yield of 18.27 μg h–1 mgcat–1 and a faradaic efficiency of 10.36% in 0.1 M Na2SO4. This work provides a fascinating route for the rational design of self-supported porous noble metals with a tunable pore size for effective electrosynthesis of ammonia.

Triethylamine (TEA) is a kind of flammable and pungent gas, which extensively exists in our daily life. It is paramount important to monitor ppb-level TEA rapidly and selectively at low temperatures. Herein, tungsten oxide hollow microspheres were successfully co-modified by different amount of Pd and N719, and were used to construct semiconductor gas sensor. TEA sensing properties were tested for the N719-Pd/WO 3 and Pd/WO 3 composites under various light illumination conditions. It is exciting to observe that the 0.3 wt% N719-Pd/WO 3 sensor exhibits excellent TEA detectability in terms of ultra-high response (1410, 50 ppm), low operating temperature (100 °C), fast response speed (25 s) and low detection limit (27 ppb) under white light illumination, which are superior to WO 3 sensors loaded with other Pd and N719 concentration as well as upon other light illumination conditions. This excellent sensing performance indicates that the proposed dual-effect improved sensitization by combining noble metal functionalization with visible light excitation offers an effective design for highly sensitive and efficient gas sensors based on wide-band gap semiconductors.

A Pd nanoparticles-graphene oxide (PdNPs/GO) hybrid as a highly sensitive sensing platform for determination of rutin was successfully prepared by a facile one-pot redox synthesis approach. Formation of PdNPs and loading onto the GO nanosheets were accomplished simultaneously by a redox reaction between H2PdCl4 and GO, without use of any additional reductants. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results demonstrated that PdNPs with an average size of 60 nm were distributed on the surface of GO nanosheets. Compared with the GO modified electrode, the PdNPs/GO modified electrode showed a better electrocatalytic activity toward the oxidation of rutin with larger peak current. Then the PdNPs/GO hybrid can be used as an enhanced sensing platform for the electrochemical determination of rutin. Under the optimal conditions, the anodic peak current was linear to the concentration of rutin in the range from 0.005 to 6 μM with the detection limit of 0.001 μM (S/N = 3). More importantly, the developed sensor can be used for the determination of rutin in medicine tablets with satisfactory results.

Purpose This study assessed the concentrations of platinum (Pt) and palladium (Pd) in surface sediments and sedimentary cores collected from the Pearl River Estuary with a view of evaluating the distribution, background levels, possible sources, and contamination level of anthropogenic Pt and Pd. Materials and methods Thirty-six samples of surface sediments and 12 samples from sedimentary cores were collected. Al 2 O 3 was analyzed on fused glass disks by X-ray fluorescence spectrometer. Heavy metal elements were measured by inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry. Pt and Pd were separated from the sample matrix by anion exchange chromatography and subsequent solvent extraction after samples had been digested in Carius tubes using aqua regia. The analysis of Pt and Pd was performed by isotopic dilution-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry. Results and discussion Pt and Pd concentrations in surface sediments were 0.28–2.11 and 0.39–38.30 ng/g, respectively, and Pt and Pd concentrations in sedimentary cores were 0.19–1.18 and 0.15–1.76 ng/g, respectively. Background values of Pt and Pd were 0.20–1.17 and 0.10–1.34 ng/g, respectively. The spatial distribution of the enrichment factor differed between Pt and Pd in surface sediments. Down-core variations in Pt, Pd, and other heavy metal elements were similar in all cases and were related to sediment type. Conclusions Some of the Pt and Pt in surface samples were derived from anthropogenic emissions. Pt and Pd were delivered to the sediment by fluvial input. In addition to vehicle exhaust catalysts, Pt and Pd were derived from other sources (e.g., industrial process). An important post-burial remobilization process of Pt and Pd is likely to be particle mixing by billows caused by typhoon.

A novel plasma-assisted fluidized-bed atomic layer deposition process to synthesize Pd-Cu bimetallic nanoparticles is reported, using palladium hexafluoroacetylacetonate, copper(I)-N, N'-di-iso-propylacetamidinate and H2 plasma. The process allows us to uniformly deposit Pd-Cu nanoparticles in porous powder, which is a mixture of γ-Al2O3 (30 wt%), amorphous aluminum silicate (50 wt%) and molecular sieve (20 wt%) (ASM). With metal loadings of 13.1 and 2.5 mg g−1 for Pd and Cu, respectively, the afforded 13.1Pd-2.5Cu catalyst shows excellent catalytic performance for the hydrogenation of CO2 in a dielectric barrier discharge reactor with no intentional heating. Under the condition of discharge input power of 24.6 W, H2-to-CO2 ratio of 4 in feed gas, and gas hourly space velocity of 7595 h−1, the conversion of CO2 can reach as high as 38.0%, with the CH4 and CH3OH product selectivities of 6.7% and 12.8%, respectively. Density functional theory calculations are further employed to understand the associated CH3OH formation mechanism.

Alkyl phenol is an essential chemical intermediate that is in high demand in the chemical industry. The synthesis of alkyl phenols from lignin-derived molecules is one of the most promising routes for utilizing biomass resources. Herein, we report the catalytic hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) of dihydroeugenol (DHE) to alkyl phenols over a highly dispersed Pd/α-MoC catalyst with a substrate conversion of 98% and a selectivity of 96% to alkyl phenols. The Pd/α-MoC catalyst prepared by co-precipitation and temperature-programmed carbonization exhibits exceptional HDO activity under mild conditions with a low H 2 pressure (1–10 bars). The characterizations of the catalyst suggest that Pd are highly dispersed on the α-MoC matrix. The reaction mechanism was investigated using the substrate scope experiments. Under ambient pressure, the abundant oxygen vacancies and acidity sites on Pd/α-MoC enable the selective hydrodeoxygenation of lignin monomers.
