Highly efficient electrocatalysis dechlorination of Dichloromethane over Single-Atom Cu/Co3O4-β spinel nanofibers

Jing Yang,Shiying Fan,Xinyong Li,Yiyuan Tao,Jingang Wang,Guohua Chen

Electrochemical selective dechlorination of dichloromethane (DCM) to chloromethane is a promising and sustainable strategy of resources. However, the current lack of high-performance electrocatalysts and complicated dechlorination mechanisms pose significant challenges. In this study, we report a series of Cu single-atom catalysts (SACs) supported on Co 3 O 4-β spinel with a tube-in-tube nanofiber structure, denoted as Cu x SACs/Co 3 O 4-β , where x represents the theoretical Cu loading (0.26 wt%, 0.30 wt% and 0.50 wt%). These catalysts effectively dechlorinate DCM, producing high-value hydrocarbons like chloromethane and methane. Notably, Cu 0.30 SACs/Co 3 O 4-β exhibited a high chloromethane production rate (2931 μmol g −1 h −1 ) and selectivity (76%) at −2.98 V vs (Ag/AgCl/Me 4 NCl) due to the synergy of cobaltosic oxide (Co 3 O 4 ) spinel and Cu single atom. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and electron paramagnetic resonance experiments confirmed the presence of additional surface oxygen vacancies in Cu 0.30 SACs/Co 3 O 4-β , which improved the electrocatalysis performance for DCM dechlorination. Furthermore, a concerted dechlorination mechanism was suggested based on the transfer coefficient α . This research paves the way for the development of novel spinel electrocatalysts and the advancement of dechlorination reactions.

Dry sliding tribological properties of Cu-WS2 self-lubricating composites at 25–500 °C

Jianhui Yan,Yi Wang,YuanJun Guo

Cu-WS 2 composites are being used as self-lubricating materials for various engineering applications. The poor wettability between Cu and WS 2 is a main obstacle for obtaining high-performance Cu-WS 2 . In order to improve the wettability, a thin Cu layer was deposited on the surface of the WS 2 powder through an electroless plating technology. Cu-WS 2 composites were prepared via spark plasma sintering (SPS) using the mix powders of Cu and Cu-WS 2 . Microstructure, mechanical properties and tribological properties of the Cu-WS 2 composites were investigated, and that of the Cu were also comparatively studied. Results show that the WS 2 powder coated with Cu (abbreviated as WS 2 @Cu powder) improves the poor wettability between Cu and WS 2 and meanwhile the distribution of WS 2 . Cu-WS 2 composites sintered below 750 °C could reduce the reaction between Cu and WS 2 and ensure more WS 2 in the composites. Both the coefficient of friction (COF) and the wear rate of the Cu-WS 2 are lower than that of the Cu. A lubricant film leads to the excellent tribological properties as the Cu-WS 2 composites were tested at 25−200 °C. However, the disappearance of WS 2 and the formation of Cu 2 O cause to the decreasing self-lubricating performances at 300−500 °C. With an increase in the test temperature, the dominant wear mechanisms of the Cu-WS 2 composites change from adhesive wear to a mixture of abrasive and oxidation wear, and that of the Cu change from adhesive wear to a mixture of fatigue and oxidation wear.

BN/Cu/CNT nanoparticles as an efficient tri-functional electrocatalyst for ORR and OER

Jiemei Yu,Zhankun Jiang,Taizhong Huang,Chengchun Tang

Preparing economic, stable, and highly efficient non-precious-metal materials for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is of great significance to the development of storage technologies and energy conversion. In this manuscript, we report a novel Cu based nano-catalyst as an electrode material fabricated by complexation-reduction method. Benefit from the stable of h-NB and the good electrical conductivity of CNT , the tri-functional electrocatalyst BN/Cu/CNT displays enhanced activity towards ORR and with the high current density of 0.95 mA/cm 2 , which is comparable to that of commercial Pt/C catalyst (cathodic peak current: 1.05 mA/cm 2 ). The BN/Cu/CNT also demonstrates high catalyst activity for the OER. From the rotating disk electrode and rotating ring-disk electrode tests, the number of electrons exchanged during the ORR is revealed to be 3.92, suggesting a 4e − pathway of O 2 reduction to H 2 O. The as prepared catalyst also has good stability and superior methanol tolerance to the commercial Pt/C catalyst in alkaline medium . Thus, it is anticipated that the BN/Cu/CNT catalyst is surely helpful for providing a new space to develop Pt-free catalyst.

Fabrication of rGO/Cu NPs on knitted fabrics for action sensing and electrothermal applications

Zhong Zhao,Changwang Yan,Daiqi Li,Xiaoning Tang,Jianhua Ran,Shuguang Bi,Deshan Cheng,Guangming Cai,Xin Wang

The inevitable oxidation of metal layer deposited on substrates is a nonnegligible issue when developing functional textiles. In this study, were on the surface of to form a metallic Cu layer, and graphene (GO) sheets were spray-coated onto an in-situ grown copper nanoparticle (Cu NP) layer on a nylon knitted fabric (NKF) to prevent the oxidation of copper. In addition, a synergistic effect on further enhancing the electrical conduction capacity was realized by the hydrothermal reduction of the GO sheets using L-ascorbic acid (L-AA). The morphology, chemical composition and structure of the NKFs were characterized by SEM, FTIR, XRD and XPS , respectively. The novel rGO/Cu@NKF architecture enabled the fabric prospects of promising action sensing capability as reflected by the repeated ΔR/R 0 peaks recorded in action sensing during real running exercises. The mechanism of sensing and the responsiveness together with the stability of the sensors were investigated. The rGO/Cu@NKF also showed efficient electrothermal performance as evidenced by a maximum surface temperature of 95.0°C after 120 s into the charging process at 15 V. These results demonstrated the potential of the rGO/Cu@NKF in smart textiles with action sensing and heating functions.

Cu-Doped ZnIn2S4/NixP Composites with Enhanced Carrier Dynamics and Photocatalytic Hydrogen Production Performance

Tongyang Zhang,Aihua Yan,Sen Luo,Fei Huang,Jixu Zhang,Ye Gao,Wenxue Zhao,Ziwu Liu,Xianhui Zhao

Photocatalytic technology still faces enormous challenges to design and synthesize highly efficient photocatalytic materials with a high electron/hole separation efficiency, rapid charge migration, low carrier recombination rate, and strong visible light-harvesting capability. Herein, Cu-doped ZnIn2S4/NixP (marked CuyZIS/NP) composites were successfully synthesized by a simple two-step method. The synergistic effect of Cu2+ doping and the NixP cocatalyst on hydrogen evolution performance was investigated in detail. The results showed that superior photoactivity over CuyZIS/NP composites was achieved. The optimal Cu0.5ZIS/NP-1/2 sample had a hydrogen evolution rate of 4746.3 μmol·g–1·h–1 under visible light irradiation, which was approximately 15.98 times higher than that of pure ZnIn2S4 (297 μmol·g–1·h–1). This work may offer a valuable insight into understanding the synergistic effect of doping and cocatalysis and provide a guideline for designing and developing highly efficient visible light-driven photocatalysts toward a water splitting system.

Self-assembly of Hyaluronic Acid-Cu-Quercetin flavonoid nanoparticles: synergistic chemotherapy to target tumors

Hanxun Yue,Xuan Zhao,Qin Yong,Min Shi,Xiaofeng Jiang,Yating Zhang,Xian Yu

Background In this study, a natural compound quercetin (Qu) was investigated for its various antitumor effects. However, due to its poor water solubility and low bioavailability, its clinical application is limited. To overcome this constraint, a modification was to Qu, which resulted in the creation of novel flavonoid self-assembling nanoparticles (HCQ NPs). Methods HCQ NPs were synthesized by a self-assembly method and characterized using transmission electron microscopy, the Malvern Zetasizer instrument, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), the ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometric method (UV-vis), Fourier transform infrared (FITR) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. Extracellular, methylene blue spectrophotometric analysis was used to determine the ability of HCQ NPs to react with different concentrations of H 2 O 2 to form hydroxyl radicals ( • OH). Intracellular, DCFH-DA staining was used to detect the ability of HCQ NPs to react with H 2 O 2 to generate reactive oxygen species. Flow cytometry was used to detect the uptake of HCQ NPs by MDA-MB-231 cells at different time points. The biocompatibility of HCQ NPs was evaluated using the Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay. Calcein AM/PI double staining and the CCK-8 assay were used to evaluate the synergistic antitumor effect of HCQ NPs and H 2 O 2 . Results HCQ NPs showed uniformly sized analogous spherical shapes with a hydrodynamic diameter of 55.36 ± 0.27 nm. XPS revealed that Cu was mainly present as Cu 2+ in the HCQ NPs. UV−vis absorption spectrum of the characteristic peak of HCQ NPs was located at 296 nm. Similarly, FTIR spectroscopy revealed a complex formation of Qu and Cu 2+ that substantially changed the wavenumber of the 4-position C = O characteristic absorption peak. Based on the proportion of Qu and Cu 2+ (1:2), the total drug loading of Qu and Cu 2+ in the HCQ NPs for therapeutic purposes was calculated to be 9%. Methylene blue spectrophotometric analysis of • OH indicated that Cu can lead to the generation of • OH by triggering Fenton-like reactions. HCQ NPs rapidly accumulated in MDA-MB-231 cells with the extension of time, and the maximum accumulation concentration was reached at about 0.5 h. Calcein AM/PI double staining and CCK-8 revealed synergistic antitumor effects of HCQ NPs including the chemotherapeutic effect of Qu and chemodynamic therapy by Cu 2+ in a simulated tumor microenvironment. HCQ NPs demonstrated very low toxicity in LO2 cells in the biocompatibility experiment. Conclusion This study show cases a new method of creating self-assembled flavonoid HCQ NPs that show great for fighting cancer.

Dielectrophoresis-assisted removal of Cd and Cu heavy metal ions by using Chlorella microalgae

Kai Zhao,Xun Zhao,Tianbo Gao,Xuan Li,Guanqi Wang,Xinxiang Pan,Junsheng Wang

A novel dielectrophoresis (DEP)-assisted device for the bioremediation of heavy metal ions by using Chlorella microalgae is presented in this paper. To generate the DEP forces, pairs of electrode mesh were inserted in the DEP-assisted device. By applying DC electric field via the electrodes, the inhomogeneous electric field gradient is induced and the strongest non-uniform electric field exists near the mesh cross-corner. After the adsorption of Cd and Cu heavy metal ions by Chlorella , the Chlorella chain were trapped along the vicinity of the electrode mesh. Then, the effects of Chlorella concentration on the adsorption of heavy metal ions, and the applied voltage and electrode mesh size on the removal of Chlorella are conducted. In the co-existing Cd and Cu solutions, the individual adsorption ratio of Cd and Cu reaches as high as approximately 96% and 98%, respectively, showing excellent bioremediation capability of multiple heavy metal ions in wastewater. By adjusting the applied electric voltage and the mesh size, the Chlorella adsorbed with Cd and Cu are captured by negative DC-DEP effects and the removal ratio of Chlorella reach an average of 97%, providing a method for the removal of multiple heavy metal ions in wastewater by using Chlorella microalgae.

Enhancing Adsorption Desulfurization Performance Using Enriched Cu(I) Sites over Microenvironment-Modulated HKUST-1

Ping Lu,Zhaoyang Qi,Jie Chen,Changshen Ye,Ting Qiu

High-efficiency adsorption of aromatic sulfur-containing compounds from liquid hydrocarbon fuels over metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) is challenging because of inert metal sites. A new method, the Ce-enhanced modulation of MOFs’ microenvironment, is proposed to modulate the –COO···Cu(II)– coordination microenvironment of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST-1) using Ce(III) as a molecular scalpel for fabricating abundant high-efficiency Cu(I) and Cu-coordination-unsaturated sites and improving the pore structures around adsorptive sites. The optimal CH-250 thus exhibits adsorptive capacities for 20.2, 28.0, and 58.3 mg S g –1 of thiophene, benzo-thiophene, and dibenzothiophene, respectively, which are superior to most reported MOFs, zeolites, and nanoporous carbons. The constructed Cu(I) sites show stronger affinity for dibenzothiophene (−0.86 eV) than the initial Cu(II) (−0.74 eV) for out-of-plane adsorption. Further, they are far stronger in-plane adsorption interactions in DBT/CH-250 (−0.90 eV) than those in DBT/HKUST-1 (−0.37 eV). Thus, molecular engineering for modulating the coordination microenvironment of MOFs shows great potential for adsorption desulfurization.

Nanoflower core-shell Cu@Pd catalysts for glycol oxidation reaction with an enhanced performance

Jianguo Yu,Zehui Yu,Yunling Jia,Ting Ran,Ming Song,Yanshuang Zhang,Qing Wang,Yuning Qu,Lili Wang

Direct alcohol fuel cells' performance is significantly affected by the phase and composition of the catalyst, thereby the development of high-performance alcohol oxidation catalysts is essential. In this study, PVA preparation was used for the first time to create PdCu core-shell nanoflowers with a high electrochemically active surface area and a potent synergistic effect. Notably, the presence of PVA causes Pd and Cu nanoparticles with different reduction rates to form a core-shell structure, and the Pd nanoparticles continue to migrate regularly under the action of PVA, forming a flower-like morphology with a high degree of branching. Cu@Pd 22.3 catalyst exhibited 13 times higher catalytic performance (4353.04 mA mg Pd −1 ) than Pd/C (334.09 mA mg Pd −1 ) in ethylene glycol oxidation reaction. The Cu@Pd 22.3 catalyst also exhibits higher stability than commercial Pd/C in stability tests lasting up to 20,000 s. This core-shell combination and highly branched structural design result in more active sites for fast ion adsorption/desorption,offering an original method to improving the activity and endurance of polyol oxidation.

Enhancing the Activity of Cu-MOR by Water for Oxidation of Methane to Methanol

Xi’an Guan,Yehong Wang,Xiumei Liu,Hong Du,Xinwen Guo,Zongchao Zhang

As clean energy, methane has huge reserves and great development potential in the future. Copper zeolites are efficient in the oxidation of methane to methanol. Water has been confirmed as a source of oxygen to regenerate the copper-zeolite active sites to enable selective anaerobic oxidation of methane to methanol. In this work, we report that the methanol yield increased from 36 μmol/g (Cu-MOR1) to 92 μmol/g (Cu-MOR1-water) as a result of water enhancing the activity of copper ion-exchange mordenite catalyst. We show for the first time that water could convert inactive copper species into active copper species during catalyst activation. A combination of the XPS, FTIR, and NMR results indicates that water dissociates and then converts ZCuIIZ into ZCuII(OH) (where Z indicates framework O (Ofw) bonded to one isolated Al in a framework T-site, i.e., 1Al) and simultaneously produces a Brönsted acid site during catalyst activation. This finding can be used to tune the state of copper species and design highly active copper-zeolite catalysts for methane oxidation to methanol.Keywords:Cu-MOR;water;methane to methanol;ZCuIIOH;XPS

Heterogeneous Cu–Sn-PPy mediated synergistic photo-Fenton and photothermal catalysis for dye elimination

Jingpi Gao,En Li,Kena Song,Tongtong Ma,Ran Yang,Yi Zhang,Nan Li,Xiaoran Liu,Jinghua Li

The dye degradation method based on Fenton-like heterogeneous nanostructures has gained significant attention in recent years. We have developed a Copper-Stannum-Polypyrolle-Heterogeneous (Cu–Sn oxide-PPy Heterogeneous, CSPHGs) catalytic system. The system uses a PN junction formed by two oxide semiconductors (Cu 2 O and SnO 2 ) as the core, which is then coated with polypyrolle (PPy) on the outer layer. Under near-infrared (NIR) light irradiation (500.0 μg ml −1 , 1.2w·cm −2 ), the temperature rapidly reached approximately 45 °C within 5 min, demonstrating excellent photothermal performance. We have overcome the limitation of traditional Fenton reactions that require weak acidic conditions for effective operation. Moreover, we have increased the photostability of Cu 2 O monomers by incorporating them into a three-layer heterostructure . The Rhodamine B (RhB) degradation experiment revealed that the generated reactive oxygen species (·OH), effectively catalyze the decomposition of dyes. Within 120 min, the degradation rate exceeded 99%. This research provides a new option for environmental remediation through the combination of photo-Fenton and photothermal processes.

Aggregation, Sedimentation and Dissolution of Cu(OH)2-Nanorods-Based Nanopesticide in Soil Solutions

Zhenlan Xu,Qing Tang,Aimei Hong,Lingxiangyu Li

Along with the development of nanotechnology, nanomaterials have been gradually applied to agriculture in recent years, such as Cu(OH)2-nanorods-based nanopesticide, an antibacterial agrochemical with a high efficacy. Nevertheless, knowledge about physical stability of Cu(OH)2nanopesticide in soil solutions is currently scarce, restricting comprehensive understanding of the fate and risk of Cu(OH)2nanopesticide in the soil environment. Herein we investigated aggregation, sedimentation and dissolution of Cu(OH)2nanopesticide in soil solutions extracted from three different soil samples, wherein commercial Cu(OH)2nanopesticide formulation (NPF), as well as its active ingredient (AI) and laboratory-prepared Cu(OH)2nanorods (NR) with similar morphology as AI, were used as model Cu(OH)2nanopesticides. We found that NPF compared to AI showed less extents of aggregation in ultrapure water due to the presence of dispersing agent in NPF. Yet, moderated aggregation and sedimentation were observed for Cu(OH)2nanopesticide irrespective of NPF, AI or NR when soil solutions were used instead of ultrapure water. The sedimentation rate constants of AI and NPF were 0.023 min−1and 0.010 min−1in the ultrapure water, whereas the rate constants of 0.003–0.021 min−1and 0.002–0.007 min−1were observed for AI and NPF in soil solutions, respectively. Besides aggregation and sedimentation, dissolution of Cu(OH)2nanopesticide in soil solutions was highly dependent on soil type, wherein pH and organic matter played important roles in dissolution. Although the final concentrations of dissolved copper (1.08–1.37 mg/L) were comparable among different soil solutions incubating 48 mg/L of AI, NPF or NR for 96 h, a gradual increase followed by an equilibrium was only observed in the soil solution from acidic soil (pH 5.16) with the low content of organic matter (1.20 g/kg). This work would shed light on the fate of Cu(OH)2nanopesticide in the soil environment, which is necessary for risk assessment of the nanomaterials-based agrochemical. Keywords:soil solutions;aggregation;sedimentation;Cu(OH)2nanopesticide;dissolution
