This study systematically investigated the characterization of 2Fe-CDs/12Mn-CeO2composites and the colorimetric sensing properties of H2O2, glucose (Glu), and glutathione (GSH). The morphology, structure, and optical properties of the 2Fe-CDs/12Mn-CeO2composite were analyzed in detail by XRD, FT-IR, SEM, TEM, XPS, and Raman spectroscopy, and its formation was supported by multiple complementary characterization techniques. The catalytic efficiency (kcat/Km) of the nanozyme is 152-fold higher than natural HRP under optimal conditions and remains 59-fold higher even after temperature normalization to 25 °C. In the colorimetric sensing experiments, the detection limits of Fe-CDs/Mn-CeO2were 0.21 μM, 2.7 μM, and 0.63 μM for H2O2, Glu, and GSH, respectively. Rapid and accurate determination of the concentrations of these biomolecules can be achieved by observing the color changes after Fe-CDs/Mn-CeO2reaction with the objects to be measured. The experimental results show that Fe-CDs/Mn-CeO2have high sensitivity and selectivity for H2O2, Glu, and GSH, which provides a solid theoretical and experimental basis for the application of Fe-CDs/Mn-CeO2in the field of biosensing and medical diagnosis.

Methanol steam reforming is a popular technology for hydrogen production, but it usually suffers from the methanation side reaction and low hydrogen yield. Herein, a novel K-doped Ru/CeO2 catalyst was proposed to suppress methanation and enhance hydrogen production. The Ru-5K/CeO2 catalyst doped with 5 wt % K achieves 100% methanol conversion, a 0.578 mol·g–1·h–1 hydrogen production rate, and 66.4% hydrogen selectivity at 450 °C, with only 3.6% CH4, which is much better than other Ru–K/CeO2 catalysts. Under the same conditions, Ru/CeO2 and Ru-10K/CeO2 only achieve 0.268 mol·g–1·h–1 and 0.224 mol·g–1·h–1 hydrogen production rates, 64.1% and 64.5% hydrogen selectivity, respectively. The promotion effect and mechanism of K doping on the methanation suppression of Ru/CeO2 catalysts in the methanol steam reforming process were investigated in detail. Characterization and experimental results show that suitable K doping in the Ru/CeO2 catalyst enhances the metal–carrier interactions and induces the formation of abundant oxygen vacancies at the same time. And the hydrogen atom dissociation and water–gas shift reactions on the catalyst surface are promoted significantly. Additionally, in situ DRIFTS characterization presents that the Ru-5K/CeO2 catalyst dominates the formation of the bridged carbonyl (Ru-CO-K) intermediate. This inhibits methane formation due to the interaction between Ru and K, and strengthens the connection of CO generated by methanol decomposition. The increase in K leads to the formation of abundant oxygen vacancies in CeO2, which promotes the dissociation of water to form hydroxyl groups and hydrogen and facilitates the water–gas shift reaction. The conversion of bridged carbonyl groups to CO2 and H2 is also accelerated, and methane formation through this dual regulatory mechanism is thus inhibited. This work offers fresh perspectives and a useful reference for hydrogen production, contributing to the ongoing discussion on the role of alkali metals in promoting methanol steam reforming.

The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is a pivotal step limiting the efficiency of hydrogen production via water splitting. Developing active and durable non-noble metal electrocatalysts remains challenging. Herein, we propose a strategy combining reconstruction-enabled electronic modulation with an integrated metal-support design. Selenium-modulated CoFeNi/CeO 2 electrocatalysts were synthesized via a cerium-assisted coordination strategy followed by a NaBH 4 -induced reductive surface etching and reconstruction process. The catalyst exhibits a flower-like nanosheet architecture, where oxygen vacancies in CeO 2 interact with selenium-related compositional deviation to regulate the electronic structure of metal centers and optimize the adsorption of reaction intermediates. In alkaline media, the catalyst achieves an overpotential of 247 mV at 10 mA cm −2 , outperforming commercial RuO 2 (322 mV), and a low Tafel slope of 37.91 mV dec −1 . It also demonstrates robust stability over 30 h. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that reduction-induced selenium redistribution and oxygen-vacancy-associated charge transport cooperatively facilitate proton-coupled electron transfer, accelerating key OER steps. This work establishes a dual-site electronic modulation strategy for efficient OER catalyst design and provides a promising pathway for developing economical and durable electrocatalysts for water-splitting technologies.

Novel black TiO 2 @CeO 2 heterojunction microparticles were synthesized via a mild solvothermal strategy coupled with calcination. • Narrowed bandgap and Z-scheme heterojunction endow the catalyst with excellent charge separation and transfer efficiency. • This catalyst exhibits excellent performance for simultaneous removal of various antibiotics and dyes. Using tetrabutyl titanate and cerium nitrate hexahydrate as raw materials, a novel kind of black TiO 2 @CeO 2 heterojunction microparticles were rationally synthesized via a mild one-pot solvothermal strategy coupled with calcination in inert atmosphere. Research results indicated that the black TiO 2 @CeO 2 microparticles possessed a narrowed bandgap of 1.62 eV and remarkably enlarged specific surface area. Benefitting from the synergistic effect of TiO 2 and CeO 2 , the composite microparticles exhibited remarkable catalytic degradation performance toward efficient removal of typical synthetic organic dyes and various antibiotics in aqueous solutions. The removal efficiencies of various antibiotics and dyes reached more than 75% within 60 min and more than 65% within 90 min, respectively. In particular, the black TiO 2 @CeO 2 microparticles achieved an overall TCH removal efficiency of 93.9% within 60 min (including dark-adsorption contribution). The apparent rate constant calculated over the subsequent 30 min of illumination was 0.0348 min −1 , demonstrating its favorable photocatalytic activity. Additionally, the dominant active species and charge transfer pathway during photocatalysis were investigated to reveal the intrinsic reaction mechanism. This work provides a facile strategy for constructing high-efficiency composite photocatalysts toward water environmental remediation.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) and chronic kidney disease (CKD), despite distinct etiologies, share a common pathological axis characterized by reactive oxygen species (ROS) burst, ferroptosis activation, and sustained inflammation. Targeting this ROS–ferroptosis–inflammation cycle represents a promising therapeutic strategy; however, current nanoplatforms are limited by insufficient responsiveness and limited capacity to regulate shared pathological mechanisms across distinct renal disease models. Here, we develop an engineered ROS-responsive nanozyme by integrating diselenide-bridged organosilica, hyaluronic acid (HA)-modified cerium oxide (CeO 2 ), and a selenium-containing diselenide framework. Under oxidative stress, MON@HA-CeO 2 undergoes ROS-triggered disassembly, coupling HA-CeO 2 -mediated ROS scavenging with selenium-related GPX4 restoration to suppress lipid peroxidation, ferroptosis, and inflammatory amplification. In both glycerol-induced AKI and unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO)-induced renal fibrosis models, the nanozyme significantly improves renal function and attenuates tissue injury, fibrosis, and inflammation. Overall, this work demonstrates a versatile strategy for targeting a shared pathological axis and provides a promising platform for the treatment of diverse renal diseases.

A CeO 2 -TiO 2 /fly ash heterojunction uses waste-derived fly ash as a porous, defect-rich interfacial support. • Hydroxyl groups and defect sites in fly ash anchor TiO 2 /CeO 2 nanodomains, suppress aggregation and stabilize interfaces. • FTC extends the visible-light absorption edge to ca. 550 nm and narrows the apparent bandgap to ca. 2.25 eV. • Photocurrent, IPCE, EIS, EPR and a ca. 49 ns TRPL lifetime support enhanced charge separation and transfer. • In situ 13 C CP-MAS NMR tracks stepwise methanol oxidation, linking hole consumption to electron delivery for H 2 evolution. Solar-driven photocatalytic hydrogen evolution stores sunlight in chemical bonds, while coal fly ash provides a low-cost route to valorize industrial solid waste. Yet TiO 2 - and CeO 2 -based photocatalysts remain limited by weak visible-light absorption and rapid charge recombination, and the interfacial function of fly ash is poorly defined. Herein, we report a CeO 2 -TiO 2 /fly ash (denoted as FTC) heterostructured compositefor hydrogen evolution combination with the numerous characterizations of structural, optical, photoelectrochemical, spectroscopic and in situ solid-state C 13 cross-polarization magic-angle-spinning nuclear magnetic resonance analysis. The FTC composite extends absorption to approximately 550 nm, narrows the apparent bandgap to ca. 2.25 eV and achieves efficient hydrogen evolution of 32 μmol h −1 g −1 under an air mass 1.5 global (AM 1.5G) irradiation. Fly ash supplies hydroxyl- and defect-rich anchoring sites for TiO 2 -CeO 2 interfaces stabilization, thus promoting charge separation and couple methanol oxidation with electron delivery for proton reduction. This work establishes waste-derived interface regulation as a practical strategy for low-cost photocatalytic solar-fuel generation. Quantitative SEM and image analysis quantify porosity and neck evolution. • EDS mapping confirms uniform CeO₂ nanoparticle dispersion in Ag matrix. • CeO₂ pinning suppresses pore coalescence and grain boundary migration. • Interfacial connection ratio is statistically improved by 1–3 wt% CeO₂. • Aging and shock tests link microstructure stability to fracture behavior. Sintered silver (Ag) die-attach technology is widely used in high-temperature wide-bandgap semiconductor packaging due to its high melting point and robust mechanical properties. However, pressureless sintered Ag joints suffer from porosity evolution and crack propagation under cyclic thermo-mechanical loading. In this work, cerium oxide (CeO 2 ) nanoparticles (0–5 wt%) were introduced to regulate microstructural stability and fracture behavior. Microstructural characterization revealed that moderate CeO 2 addition (1–3 wt%) significantly increased joint densification and suppressed grain coarsening. Quantitative SEM analysis with image-based porosity mapping, sinter neck thickness measurement, and EDS elemental mapping revealed suppressed pore coalescence, stabilized neck morphology, and enhanced interfacial connection ratio in CeO 2 -modified joints. The 1 wt% CeO 2 -modified joints exhibited superior resistance to coarsening after 1000 h thermal aging at 250 °C. This stability is attributed to Zener pinning by the CeO 2 phase, which inhibited Ag grain growth and vacancy coalescence. Thermal shock testing (−60 °C to 150 °C) showed a fracture mode transition from edge delamination in pure Ag joints to distributed microcracking in CeO 2 -modified joints, resulting in extended fatigue life. These results demonstrate that CeO 2 nanoparticle doping effectively enhances microstructural stability and thermomechanical reliability in pressureless sintered Ag interconnects.

The high expression of classically activated macrophages (M1) subtypes and the elevated levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) are specifically observed in osteoarthritis (OA) patients. In this study, we synthesized a Pd@CeO2 nanozyme with a core-shell hetero-nanostructure that enhances enzyme activity through shell-core electron transfer. The goal of this work was to look into the potential of Pd@CeO2 nanozyme in scavenging ROS and regulating macrophages for the treatment of OA. The results demonstrated that the Pd@CeO2 nanozyme displayed multiple enzyme-like antioxidative activities, efficiently eliminating excessive intracellular ROS. This resulted in a significant decrease in the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, consequently leading to a decline in the presence of M1-type macrophages. Furthermore, the Pd@CeO2 nanozyme showed excellent potential in promoting the shift of macrophages toward the M2 phenotype. Additionally, the factors secreted from the cell supernatant of Pd@CeO2-treated macrophages treated with Pd@CeO2 demonstrated anti-inflammatory properties in the chondrocytes located within inflamed synovial joints. These findings offer valuable insights into the advancement of effective enzyme-mimetic therapies for the treatment of OA.

PVDF-based polymer electrolyte has been widely studied because of its good mechanical strength, easy processing, excellent thermal/chemical stability. However, pure PVDF has the problems of low ionic conductivity and insufficient interface stability with the electrodes. Herein, this research presents a facile strategy for fabricating Ce-MOF-derived rodlike nanocrystalline CeO2 to incorporate composite polymer electrolytes for Li-metal batteries. The CeO2-PVDF-HFP composite polymer electrolytes (CPEs) could achieve enhanced ionic conductivity and interfacial stability.Notably, the ultrasmall nanocrystalline CeO2-PVDF-HFP CPEs demonstrates superior Li⁺ transport kinetics (5.04×10⁻⁴ S cm⁻¹), lithium dendrite suppression and an extended electrochemical stability window up to 4.6 V. When applied in Li| LiMn0.6Fe0.4PO4 full batteries, the quasi-solid polymer electrolyte system could maintain a discharge capacity of 94 mAh g⁻¹ after 100 cycles at 0.5 C, deliver good cycling stability and rate capability retaining 99% capacity after prolonged 500 circles at 1 C. These advancements highlight special functional nanocrystalline fillers improve the performance of PVDF-based polymer electrolyte, offering a promising pathway for developing reliable solid-state lithium metal batteries.

To overcome the activity and durability bottlenecks of Pd catalysts in the deep dehydrogenation of liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHCs), we couple dielectric-barrier cold plasma with CeO2 modulation. This green, low-energy cold-plasma process treats a Ce-doped Pd/C precursor at near-room temperature, redistributing the oxide and constructing a stable CeO2-carbon (CeO2–C) interface, and drives Pd nanoparticles to anchor at this interface, generating electron-deficient Pdδ+ sites in intimate contact with Pd0. Structure-performance correlations show that the new interface greatly increases Pd dispersion and Lewis-acid site density, while the Pdδ+ centers, through concurrent electronic withdrawal and acidity enhancement, accelerate the rate-determining 4H-NPCZ → NPCZ step. Consequently, with a catalyst mass fraction of 20 wt %, PdCe5C–Ar achieves complete dehydrogenation of fully hydrogenated N-propylcarbazole (12H-NPCZ) within 240 min at 180 °C and delivers a mass-specific hydrogen-release rate of 223.0 mmol H2 gmetal–1 min–1─almost twice the best literature value─while retaining full activity after eight cycles. DFT calculations attribute the performance leap to a downward shift of the Pd d-band center and to a lowered third-step barrier (ΔH3 = 2.381 eV) induced by Pdδ+. This work is the first to apply low-temperature plasma interface engineering to a Pd-CeO2–C ternary system, offering a broadly applicable paradigm for low-Pd, high-efficiency, long-life LOHC dehydrogenation catalysts.

Solar-driven carbon dioxide reduction (CO 2 RR) is a highly promising strategy for closing the carbon cycle and enabling the sustainable production of clean chemicals. However, its practical efficiency remains severely limited by sluggish reaction kinetics and competing reaction pathways. In this study, through rational interfacial engineering to induce a stable built-in electric field, we constructed an S-scheme heterojunction based on CeO 2 (110)/g-C 3 N 4 to achieve coordinated modulation of photocatalytic CO 2 reduction. Under gas-solid-phase reaction conditions without a sacrificial agent, the catalyst delivered a yield of 2.51 μmol·g −1 ·h −1 , representing an 8.05-fold enhancement compared with pristine g-C 3 N 4 . A series of experimental investigations indicate that the internal electric field not only promotes the efficient separation and migration of photogenerated carriers but also strengthens CO 2 adsorption and activation, thereby steering the original CO-forming pathway toward an eight-electron-dominated CH 4 pathway. This work may offer a viable heterojunction design strategy for achieving selective CO 2 RR.

The widespread use of carbendazim (CBZ) fungicide calls for monitoring its toxic residues in food due to human health concerns. Herein, a Ru/CeO 2-x heterostructured composite was constructed by sodium borohydride reduction for the electrochemical sensing of CBZ. The rational design engineers abundant interfacial oxygen vacancies and Ru nanoclusters, which form interfacial Lewis acid-base pairs capable of dual-site recognition of CBZ molecules. Specifically, oxygen-vacancy Lewis acidic sites preferentially adsorb the electron-rich groups(such as lone pairs on amino groups), while Ru-based Lewis basic sites capture electron-deficient carbon atoms within the benzimidazole ring. Such synergistic adsorption and interfacial charge transfer markedly enhance the redox kinetics of CBZ. Consequently, the Ru/CeO 2-x /GCE sensor delivers an ultralow detection limit of 7.7 nM, along with excellent selectivity, reproducibility, and long-term stability. This work provides a new interfacial engineering strategy integrating oxygen-defect chemistry and electronic modulation for designing high-performance Lewis acid–base coupled sensing materials.
