Photocatalytic reduction of CO 2 into chemical fuels under visible light has garnered increasing attention. Herein, we designed silver nanoparticle (Ag NPs)/carbon quantum dot (CQDs)/TiO 2 nanotubes (TNTs) nanocomposites via a hydrothermal process combined with an in-situ photod-eposition method. Results of methylene blue photodegradation tests under visible light demonstrated that Ag/CQDs/TNTs exhibited higher photocatalytic efficiency than pristine TNTs. In addition, in the carbon dioxide photoreduction experiment, the optimized Ag/CQDs/TNTs has a photocatalytic yield of 38.33 µmol g -1 h -1 when carbon dioxide is converted into carbon monoxide, which is 5.3 times that of pure TNTs. Detailed experimental characterizations revealed that the enhanced photocatalytic performance of Ag/CQDs/TNTs stemmed from the surface plasmon resonance effect of Ag NPs and the excellent optoelectronic properties of CQDs. This work offers insights for fabricating ternary catalysts for photocatalytic CO 2 reduction.

Breakthrough: Ag/Cu bimetallic sensitization and UV activation enables efficient room-temp NO 2 detection. • High response (2180 to 200 ppm NO 2 ) with fast 7/10 s response/recovery at RT under UV. • High selectivity and moisture resistance, integrated into smart masks for breath-level detection. Metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) NO 2 gas sensors are hindered from achieving high-performance, low-power practical applications due to their slow response/recovery times and excessively high operating temperatures. To overcome these obstacles, we propose a synergistic strategy combining silver/copper (Ag/Cu) bimetallic nanoparticle surface modification with ultraviolet (UV) light activation. Using NH 2 -MIL-68 as a sacrificial template, In 2 O 3 rod-like materials were prepared via a hydrothermal method, and Ag/Cu bimetallic nanoparticles were further decorated on their surface to construct a high-performance NO 2 sensor (Ag/Cu-In 2 O 3 ) capable of operating at room temperature. Under UV light excitation, the Ag/Cu-In 2 O 3 -1 sensor exhibited a high response of 2180 toward 200 ppm NO 2 , with response and recovery times as short as 7 s and 10 s, respectively. Moreover, the sensor showed excellent selectivity for NO 2 against various interfering gases and good humidity tolerance. The enhanced performance is attributed to the synergistic sensitization of Ag/Cu bimetallic nanoparticles and the photogenerated holes induced by UV illumination during response and recovery. This study highlights the potential of Ag/Cu-In 2 O 3 for room-temperature NO 2 sensing and demonstrates the effectiveness of UV excitation in boosting MOS gas sensor performance. Silk fibroin (SF) is a key biomarker for ancient silk artifacts. The rapid and sensitive detection of SF is therefore essential for their compositional analysis and preservation. In this research, an anti-SF monoclonal antibody (anti-SF mAb) was conjugated with an AuDTNB@Ag nanocore–shell structure to form a highly effective SERS immunoassay probe, and a surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) assisted immunochromatographic assay (ICA) was developed for the detection of silk residues in artifacts. The visual limit of detection (vLOD) is 40 ng mL−1 while the instrumental limit of detection (iLOD) is 3.96 ng/mL−1 with a wide linear detection range (5–100 ng mL−1) as determined through Raman spectroscopy. The assay exhibited high specificity against interfering proteins and demonstrated consistent inter-batch reproducibility. When detecting real cultural relic samples, the immunochromatographic strip assay showed high accuracy and reliability, which was validated by indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Considering its high sensitivity, rapid analysis, and portability, the SERS ICA may provide a technologically advanced strategy for the on-site screening of silk residues in archaeological and museological contexts.

Direct photocatalytic conversion of methane to formaldehyde (HCHO) provides a sustainable route for methane valorization. However, the exceptional inertness of the C–H bond in methane and the propensity of oxygenated products toward overoxidation have hindered the simultaneous achievement of high selectivity and appreciable productivity. Here, we report a highly efficient photocatalyst comprising metallic Ag nanoparticles anchored on oxygen-vacancy-rich WO3, which delivers a state-of-the-art HCHO yield of 28.5 mmol g–1 for 4 h with an outstanding selectivity of 96.6% under mild photothermal conditions (150 °C). Operando spectroscopic characterizations combined with theoretical calculations reveal that the interfacial synergy between Ag species and oxygen vacancies markedly enhances charge separation and enables the selective activation of CH4 and O2 into •CH3 and •OOH radicals, respectively. Moreover, moderate thermal activation accelerates the reaction kinetics while facilitating rapid HCHO desorption from the catalyst surface, thereby effectively suppressing overoxidation to CO2. This work establishes an effective strategy for selective methane valorization through the rational coupling of interfacial defect engineering and photothermal synergy, providing insights for the design of advanced photocatalytic C1 conversion systems.

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) holds significant potential for rapid food safety screening; however, its application is often constrained by substrate sensitivity, stability, and cost. Here, we developed a multifunctional SERS substrate by integrating a 3D-printed microstructured template with a slippery liquid-infused porous surface (SLIPS) and Ag/UiO-66 metal–organic framework (MOF) nanoparticles for food safety monitoring. The nearly pinning-free SLIPS interface enabled evaporation-driven enrichment of nanoparticles at microcone tips, generating dense, spatially confined hotspots with an enhancement factor (EF) of 1.44 × 108. The Ag/UiO-66@SLIPS substrate demonstrated ultrasensitive SERS detection of illicit sildenafil (SD) and food-dye additives (using rhodamine 6G as a model). The substrate achieved limits of detection (LOD) for SD of 100 pg/mL (2.11 × 10–10 M) in ethanol and 1 ng/mL (2.11 × 10–9 M) in health wine using only 10 μL samples. For rhodamine 6G (R6G), an ultralow LOD of 1 fg/mL (2.09 × 10–15 M) was obtained. Furthermore, for photocatalytically degradable dyes, the inherent catalytic activity of Ag/UiO-66 provided a self-cleaning pathway to mitigate signal carryover and enabled repeated measurements. The substrate maintained 83.5% signal intensity over 150 days and can be refreshed for continued use. This work combines biomimetic structures with functionalized nanomaterials, enabling the simple, cost-effective development of robust, uniform SERS substrates for multiscenario trace molecular sensing in food safety.

Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) present a serious risk to ecosystems and human health, underscoring the need for highly sensitive detection methods. Existing analytical approaches often lack the portability and rapid response required for on-site screening, and conventional surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) substrates exhibit limited affinity toward hydrophobic PFAS molecules. To overcome these limitations, we designed a superhydrophobic nano-Cu modified Ag foam that integrates hydrophobic enrichment with specific metal-carboxylate coordination for effective perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) capture and detection. The critical role of Cu 2+ as a bridging site for selective PFOA adsorption was elucidated. This design achieves a remarkably low detection limit of 0.1 μg L −1 for PFOA and enables discrimination between different PFAS categories. Moreover, it maintains excellent SERS activity after two months of storage, effectively addressing the issue of facile oxidation of Cu. The substrate was successfully applied to detect PFOA in various real water samples, demonstrating its potential as a practical and powerful platform for environmental PFAS monitoring.

A polymer interlayer strategy was developed for screen-printed Bi 2 Te 3 -based films. • The film retains 94.16% conductivity after 5000 bending cycles at 15 mm. • Ag doping yields a high power factor of 3040.59 μW·m –1 ·K –2 at 423 K. Screen-printed Bi 2 Te 3 -based films are promising for large-scale flexible thermoelectric applications in wearable devices, however, the bending stability of such films is severely limited by the poor adhesion between the film and the commonly used polyimide substrate. To address this issue, this work introduces a polymer interlayer with low-softening-point between the thermoelectric film and the substrate to form a robust, molecular-scale bonded interface during sintering, which effectively mitigates bending-induced delamination and cracking of the Bi 2 Te 3 -based film. Consequently, the Ag-doped Bi 0.5 Sb 1.5 Te 3 film exhibits excellent mechanical stability, retaining over 94.16 % of the initial conductivity after 5000 bending cycles at a bending radius of 15 mm. Furthermore, Ag doping optimizes electrical performance by simultaneously increasing carrier concentration through cationic substitution and promoting a highly ordered lamellar structure that suppresses grain boundary scattering. This dual effect yields a superior power factor of 3040.59 μW·m –1 ·K –2 at 423 K. A thermoelectric generator fabricated from five film legs achieves a maximum output power density of 24.30 μW·mm –2 at a temperature difference of 30 K, demonstrating the practical viability of this approach for wearable applications. Trace Ag (Ag/Cu = 0.001) significantly enhanced Cu-Zn catalyzed CO 2 hydrogenation. • STY MeOH of Cu-Zn-Ag 0.001 was 467.8 g·kg −1 ·h −1 , 1.82 times higher than Cu-Zn. • Ag promotes oxygen vacancy formation around active sites at the Cu-ZnO interface. • Methanol synthesis follows the formate pathway with Ag lowering energy barriers. The methanol synthesis from catalytic CO 2 conversion has emerged as an attractive strategy for carbon valorization and sustainable energy generation. However, the catalytic efficiency of conventional Cu-Zn-based catalysts remains far from satisfactory. Herein, a Cu-Zn-Ag catalyst, synthesized via a facile co-precipitation method, exhibited a significantly improved methanol production activity compared with Cu-Zn catalysts. Notably, a trace amount of Ag doping (the Ag/Cu molar ratio was 0.001) could significantly elevate the methanol generation, with its space-time yield increasing from 258 ± 17 to 468 ± 23 g MeOH ·kg cat −1 ·h −1 , an increase of 1.82 times, while further increasing Ag doping would lead to reduced activity. Structural characterizations confirmed the Ag presence, being doped in the Cu lattice, and Ag doping was significantly beneficial to oxygen vacancy formation, which was deemed the active sites for methanol formation. The detailed reaction pathway (formate pathway) for methanol synthesis was also investigated based on density functional theory (DFT) calculations, where Ag doping lowered the energy barriers. This work elucidates the mechanism of Ag doping in Cu-Zn catalysts and provides key insights into the reaction mechanism of CO 2 hydrogenation to methanol, highlighting its potential for sustainable methanol synthesis. A 3 vol% Ti 3 C 2 Tx@Ag addition achieves a strength–ductility synergy in Cu composites. • The Ag decoration improved MXene dispersion and interfacial bonding with Cu. • The Ti 3 C 2 Tx@Ag/Cu composites exhibited enhanced mechanical and tribological properties. Aerospace, rail transportation, and electronics require Cu-based materials with high thermal conductivity together with adequate mechanical and tribological performance. However, the relatively low strength, hardness, and wear resistance of Cu limit its use under demanding service conditions. Herein, Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene nanosheets were decorated with Ag nanoparticles, and Ti 3 C 2 T x @Ag/Cu composites were fabricated by ball milling followed by fast hot-press sintering. Ag nanoparticles were uniformly distributed on the Ti 3 C 2 T x surfaces, and the addition of Ti 3 C 2 T x @Ag progressively refined the Cu matrix grains from 5.31 μm in pure Cu to 1.24 μm at 10 vol% reinforcement. The 3 vol% Ti 3 C 2 T x @Ag/Cu composite exhibited the best strength–ductility balance, with an ultimate tensile strength of 288.5 MPa and an elongation of 41.8%, compared with 255.3 MPa and 37.6% for pure Cu, respectively. The hardness increased continuously from 48 to 116 HBW, whereas thermal conductivity showed a non-monotonic dependence on reinforcement content. Ti 3 C 2 T x @Ag produced only a modest change in the average friction coefficient but markedly improved wear resistance; the wear rate decreased from 21.24 × 10 −5 mm 3 ·(N·m) −1 for pure Cu to 6.29 × 10 −5 mm 3 ·(N·m) −1 at 10 vol%, corresponding to a 70.4% reduction. Worn-surface, wear-debris, and cross-sectional observations indicate that the improved wear resistance is mainly associated with suppressed cracking and large-scale material spalling, while friction-induced mechanical mixing and oxidation may provide an additional contribution. These results demonstrate that Ag-decorated Ti 3 C 2 T x is an effective reinforcement for jointly regulating the mechanical, thermal, and tribological behavior of Cu composites.

Rational design of a multifunctional mSiO 2 -CQDs-Au@Ag nanocomposite. • Au@Ag and CQDs synergistically strengthen the SERS response. • The substrate achieves an enhancement factor of 1.0 × 10 9 . • Amisulpride in seawater is detected at 6.1 × 10 −9 mol·L −1 . • Charge transfer assisted enhancement is revealed experimentally. Pharmaceutically active compounds (PhACs) are receiving increasing attention because of their widespread use and continuous release into aquatic environments. Among them, amisulpride (AMI), a widely prescribed antipsychotic drug, is a plausible aquatic contaminant due to its release through wastewater and incomplete metabolic removal. Herein, Au@Ag core–shell nanoparticles were prepared using β-cyclodextrin as both the reducing agent and stabilizer, and further assembled with carbon quantum dots (CQDs) and mesoporous silica (mSiO 2 ) to construct a composite Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrate, mSiO 2 -CQDs-Au@Ag, for sensitive AMI detection. The substrate exhibited strong enhancement capability, with an enhancement factor (EF) as high as 1.0 × 10 9 . When applied to the detection of AMI in seawater, the proposed platform achieves a low limit of detection (LOD) of 6.1 × 10 −9 mol·L −1 , together with a good linearity (R 2 = 0.993). Combined theoretical and experimental analyses indicated that CQDs not only participate in interfacial charge transfer, but also contribute to analyte adsorption. This work offers a rational strategy for constructing semiconductor-integrated SERS platforms for sensitive detection and demonstrates its promising potential for environmental monitoring of emerging organic pollutants. Excessive multi-site confinement impairs induced-fit Cd 2+ aptamer binding. • Ag-MOF/Pen co-regulation balances structural rigidity and binding flexibility. • Interfacial anchoring and H-bond regulation enhance apparent affinity 16.1-fold. • Label-free fluorescence enables accurate Cd 2+ analysis in pea seedling tissues. Aptamer immobilization can improve structural stability, but excessive confinement may restrict the conformational rearrangements required for induced-fit target recognition. A key challenge is therefore to stabilize recognition-competent conformations while preserving the structural adaptability required for binding. Using a Cd 2+ aptamer as a model, we first demonstrated that conventional multi-site immobilization increased the apparent dissociation constant by approximately eightfold relative to the free aptamer. To address this issue, we developed a surface-imprinting strategy that confines the aptamer within hydrogel through single-point tethering of the aptamer while modulating its local microenvironment. The Cd 2+ -bound aptamer was first assembled on Ag-MOF, followed by hydrogel polymerization in the presence of penicillamine. During imprinting, Ag-MOF promoted localized aptamer anchoring, while penicillamine regulated the hydrogen-bonding network surrounding the Cd 2+ -aptamer complex. Subsequent Cd 2+ removal generated an imprinted microenvironment that partially preserved the preorganized recognition conformation without over-constraining flexible regions required for rebinding. The optimized hybrid exhibited an apparent dissociation constant of 0.19 μM, corresponding to a 16.1-fold decrease relative to the free aptamer, and reached binding equilibrium within 10 min. Integration with label-free Tb 3+ -sensitized fluorescence enabled Cd 2+ detection with a limit of detection of 0.7 nM, approximately 1.1–1114-fold lower than nine representative reported methods, while maintaining satisfactory selectivity and reproducibility. The method was further validated by quantifying Cd²⁺ in different tissues of hydroponically grown pea seedlings and food matrices, with results consistent with ICP-MS. These results establish moderate, microenvironment-assisted confinement as a general design principle for balancing conformational stabilization and induced-fit adaptability at aptamer recognition interfaces. Ag–Cu tandem catalysis provides an effective strategy to enhance C2+ selectivity in the electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) by integrating CO generation and utilization for C–C coupling. Here, we report a series of Ag@Cu2O, Ag@CuO, and Ag@CuO-BDC core–shell catalysts designed to regulate the CO generation, Cu-oxidation states, and surface structures. The Ag@Cu2O catalysts exhibit pronounced tandem effects, suppressing CH4 formation while enhancing the C–C coupling on the Cu sites. Notably, Ag@Cu2O-30 achieves a high C2H4/CH4 Faradaic efficiency ratio of 6.5 at −1.8 V (vs RHE) with an increased C2H4 partial current density of 12.3 mA cm–2. Oxidation to Ag@CuO further modifies the Cu species distribution, facilitating CO and CO2 diffusion while reducing H2 formation. Moreover, constructing Cu-BDC-MOF followed by electrochemical reconstruction generates additional oxygen vacancies and stabilizes Cu+ species, enhancing C2H4 selectivity and stability but with increased CH4 formation and reduced current density. This study highlights Ag–Cu tandem catalysis and structural regulation of Cu as effective strategies for achieving selective reduction of CO2 toward C2H4.
