Combining bioinspired nanochannels with ferrocene doped MoS2 nanoplates: Application to ratiometric electrochemical detection of let-7a

Wenwen Xue,Zilian Jiang,Yahui Wang,Hongfang Zhang

Sensitive and accurate detection of tumor suppressor genes is vastly important to the related therapeutic research. Herein, a ratiometric electrochemical method for let-7a detection was established by integrating a ferrocene (Fc) doped MoS 2 nanoplates modified electrode into the nanochannels-based biosensing platform. The ratiometric signal was developed by the redox current of methylene blue (MB) which reflects the target recognition occurred into the nanochannels and the redox current of Fc which corrects the slight signal deviation caused by some analyte-independent factors. And thus, the ratio of peak current of MB and Fc ( I MB / I Fc ) measured at differential pulse voltammogram varied precisely with the increment of the concentration of let-7a incubated in the bioinspired nanochannels. The strategy of spherical DNAzyme induced deposition in nanochannels was utilized to further amplify the signal. Under optimal conditions, a wide linear dynamic range of 50 aM to 10 pM spanning five orders of magnitude was obtained. The developed electrochemical method, with attomole level of detection limit, was successfully applied to the determination of let-7a in human serum and tumor cells. The study not only offers a new route for reliable nucleic acid detection, but also provides an excellent opportunity to extend the application of the two-dimensional transition-metal dichalcogenides.

Ni-doped MoS2 embedded in natural wood containing porous cellulose for piezo-catalytic degradation of tetracycline

Bingjie Huo,Jingxue Wang,Zichen Wang,Chao Liu,Wenjing Hao,Yinglong Wang,Peizhe Cui,Jianguang Qi,Jun Gao,Jingwei Yang,Fanqing Meng

Wood is a natural material with low cost and easy recovery, which porous, layered, excellent structure and mechanical properties make it possible to apply in wastewater treatment. We have successfully grown MoS 2 on natural wood containing porous cellulose and introduced the high conductivity circuit path provided by Ni nanoparticles to construct a new piezoelectric three-dimensional wood block for the efficient degradation of tetracycline. Ni/MoS 2 /Wood exhibited excellent piezo-catalytic degradation performance, and the degradation rate of tetracycline reached 95.96 % (k = 0.0411 min −1 ) under ultrasonic vibration. After 5 cycles, the degradation rate still reached 90.20 %. In addition, Ni/MoS 2 /Wood was used as the reactor filler to degrade tetracycline through piezoelectric response triggered by hydrodynamic force, and the degradation rate reached 90.27 % after 60 min. Further, the mechanism and the possible degradation pathways of tetracycline degradation were proposed. This low-cost, recyclable and stable three-dimensional wood block piezoelectric material provides a new idea for the practical application of wastewater treatment.

The enhancement of performance and imbibition effect of slickwater-based fracturing fluid by using MoS2 nanosheets

Hang Xu,Yuan Li,Guo-Lin Yu,Sa-Sa Yang,Bo-Jun Li,Fu-Jian Zhou,Er-Dong Yao,Hao Bai,Zhi-Yu Liu

Slickwater-based fracturing fluid has recently garnered significant attention as the major fluid for volumetric fracturing; however, lots of challenges and limitations such as low viscosity, poor salt tolerance, and possible formation damage hinder the application of the conventional simple slickwater-based fracturing fluid. In addition, nanomaterials have proven to be potential solutions or improvements to a number of challenges associated with the slickwater. In this paper, molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) nanosheets were chemically synthesized by hydrothermal method and applied to improve the performance of conventional slickwater-based fracturing fluid. Firstly, the microstructure characteristics and crystal type of the MoS 2 nanosheets were analyzed by SEM, EDS, TEM, XPS, and Raman spectroscopy techniques. Then, a series of evaluation experiments were carried out to compare the performance of MoS 2 nanosheet-modified slickwater with the conventional slickwater, including rheology, drag reduction, and sand suspension. Finally, the enhanced imbibition capacity and potential mechanism of the nanosheet-modified slickwater were systematically investigated. The results showed that the self-synthesized MoS 2 nanosheets displayed a distinct ultrathin flake-like morphology and a lateral size in the range of tens of nanometers. In the nano-composites, each MoS 2 nanosheet plays the role of cross-linking point, so as to make the spatial structure of the entire system more compact. Moreover, nanosheet-modified slickwater demonstrates more excellent properties in rheology, drag reduction, and sand suspension. The nanosheet-modified slickwater has a higher apparent viscosity after shearing 120 min under 90 °C and 170 s −1 . The maximum drag reduction rate achieved 76.3% at 20 °C, and the sand settling time of proppants with different mesh in the nano-composites was prolonged. Spontaneous imbibition experiments showed that the gel-breaking fluid of nanosheet-modified slickwater exhibited excellent capability of oil-detaching, and increase the oil recovery to ∼35.43%. By observing and analyzing the interfacial behavior of MoS 2 nanosheets under stimulated reservoir conditions, it was found that the presence of an interfacial tension gradient and the formation of a climbing film may play an essential role in the spontaneous imbibition mechanism. This work innovatively uses two-dimensional MoS 2 nanosheets to modify regular slickwater and confirms the feasibility of flake-like nanomaterials to improve the performance of slickwater. The study also reveals the underlying mechanism of enhanced imbibition efficiency of the nano-composites.

MoS2/NiFeS2 heterostructure as a highly efficient electrocatalyst for overall water splitting at high current densities

Yuan-Yuan Feng,Gao Deng,Xiang-Yu Wang,Meng Zhu,Qing-Nan Bian,Ben-Shuai Guo

Searching for efficient, stable and low-cost nonprecious catalysts for oxygen and hydrogen evolution reactions (OER and HER) is highly desired in overall water splitting (OWS). Herein, presented is a nickel foam (NF)-supported MoS 2 /NiFeS 2 heterostructure , as an efficient electrocatalyst for OER, HER and OWS. The MoS 2 /NiFeS 2 /NF catalyst achieves a 500 mA cm −2 current density at a small overpotential of 303 mV for OER, and 228 mV for HER. Assembled as an electrolyzer for OWS, such a MoS 2 /NiFeS 2 /NF heterostructure catalyst shows a quite low cell voltage (≈1.79 V) at 500 mA cm −2 , which is among the best values of current non-noble metal electrocatalysts. Even at the extremely large current density of 1000 mA cm −2 , the MoS 2 /NiFeS 2 /NF catalyst presents low overpotentials of 314 and 253 mV for OER and HER, respectively. Furthermore, MoS 2 /NiFeS 2 /NF shows a ceaseless durability over 25 h with almost no change in the cell voltage. The superior catalytic activity and stability at large current densities (>500 mA cm −2 ) far exceed the benchmark RuO 2 and Pt/C catalysts. This work sheds a new light on the development of highly active and stable nonprecious electrocatalysts for industrial water electrolysis .

In-situ transformation into MoP/MoS2 heterogeneous structure with rich S-vacancy enhanced hydrogen evolution reaction

Juan Du,Qiao Han,Cheng Liu,Hongda Wu,Lufan zheng,Zhanxu Yang

The surface modification strategy has broken through the restriction of hydrogen evolution activity caused by low conductivity inert surfaces of MoS 2 during hydrogen evolution reaction . In this work, a new strategy for regulating the interface structure between MoS 2 and MoP using sulfur vacancy is proposed, which is derived from the synthesis of molybdenum disulfide nanotubes with rich S-vacancy (Sv-MoS 2 ) by reduction. Subsequently, Sv-MoS 2 was phosphated by introducing a P source, and the obtained (MoP/Sv-MoS 2 -8) composite. The introduction of P atoms provides more active sites for hydrogen adsorption and desorption by replacing S atoms to form (Mo-P) covalent bonds , further increase the number of S vacancies to activate the inert interface. The synthesized MoP/Sv-MoS 2 -8 has excellent catalytic activity and good cyclic stability, showing a lower Tafel slope of 60 mV·dec −1 at a current density of 10 mA·cm −2 , and no potential attenuation after the cyclic stability test for 24 h. The excellent HER performance is mainly due to the synergistic effect of P atom doping and S vacancy, which greatly reduces the energy barrier of the Volmer step and the adsorption/desorption of the H* intermediate step.

Effect of 4-mercaptophenylboronic acid functionalized MoS2 quantum dots on amyloid aggregation of bovine serum albumin

Hua-jin Zeng,Li Sun,Si-meng Liu,Ling-bo Qu,Ran Yang

In recent years, seeking and screening of compounds that can inhibit and/or depolymerize protein aggregation has been a hot issue in the field of pharmaceutical research. As a new material, quantum dots have been widely concerned by medical researchers. In present study, a novel 4-mercaptophenylboronic acid functionalized MoS 2 quantum dots (4-MPBA-MoS 2 QDs) was successfully synthesized through a one-pot hydrothermal approach by using molybdate dehydrate and 4-mercaptophenylboronic acid as Mo and S source, respectively. Transmission electron microscopy observation showed that the morphology and microstructure of the 4-MPBA-MoS 2 QDs displayed uniform spherical shape with a diameter of approximately 1.5 ∼ 3.0 nm. The UV and fluorescence spectra experiments indicated that the prepared QDs had good water solubility and two weak absorption peaks were appeared at 280 nm and 310 nm. When the excitation wavelength was set to 310 nm, the 4-MPBA-MoS 2 QDs had the strongest fluorescence intensity, and the maximum emission wavelength appeared at 405 nm. In vitro experiments showed that the 4-MPBA-MoS 2 QDs could significantly reduce the aggregation of bovine serum albumin (BSA). Especially when the mass ratio of BSA to 4-MPBA-MoS 2 QDs was 1:5, the inhibition rate could reach 76.4%. Cell experiment showed that the presence of 4-MPBA-MoS 2 QDs could obviously decrease the cytotoxicity induced by BSA amyloid fibrils. Moreover, the depolymerization of BSA amyloid fibrils by 4-MPBA-MoS 2 QDs and its excellent cell permeability were also observed. Molecular docking studies have shown that 4-MPBA-MoS 2 QDs may stabilize the BSA structure through van der Waals forces, hydrophobic force, electrostatic interactions and hydrogen bonds formed between the outer layer of 4-MPBA and BSA to prevent fibrosis aggregation. The results of this study suggested that 4-MPBA-MoS 2 QDs showed low cytotoxicity, good biocompatibility and solubility, and had a great potential in the design of new drugs for the treatment of amyloid-related diseases.

A NIR-II Photoactivatable “ROS Bomb” with High-Density Cu2O-Supported MoS2 Nanoflowers for Anticancer Therapy

Jia Huang,Guiming Deng,Shuya Wang,Tianjiao Zhao,Qiaohui Chen,Yuqi Yang,Yongqi Yang,Jinping Zhang,Yayun Nan,Zhaoqian Liu,Ke Cao,Qiong Huang,Kelong Ai

The fast conversion of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) into reactive oxygen species (ROS) at tumor sites is a promising anticancer strategy by manipulating nanomedicines with near-infrared light in the second region (NIR-II). However, this strategy is greatly compromised by the powerful antioxidant capacity of tumors and the limited ROS generation rate of nanomedicines. This dilemma mainly stems from the lack of an effective synthesis method to support high-density copper-based nanocatalysts on the surface of photothermal nanomaterials. Herein, a multifunctional nanoplatform (MCPQZ) with high–density cuprous (Cu 2 O) supported molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) nanoflowers (MC NFs) is developed for the efficient killing of tumors via a potent ROS storm by an innovative method. Under NIR-II light irradiation, the ROS intensity and maximum reaction velocity ( V max ) produced by MC NFs are 21.6 and 33.8 times that of the non–irradiation group in vitro, which is much higher than most current nanomedicines. Moreover, the strong ROS storm in cancer cells is efficiently formed by MCPQZ (increased by 27.8 times compared to the control), thanks to the fact that MCPQZ effectively pre–weakens the multiple antioxidant systems of cancer cells. This work provides a novel insight to solve the bottleneck of ROS-based cancer therapy.

Well-aligned MXene@MoS2/Carbon nanofiber aerogels reinforced epoxy composites with splendid thermal and tribological performance

Yongjun Zhou,Yuanya Zhang,Jing Wang,Yu He,Junya Yuan,Xuehu Men

Epoxy resin (EP) composites are attracting intensive interest for aviation aircraft applications due to superior machinability and high corrosion resistance . However, the poor tribological performance of EP matrix greatly limits its wide application because of highly brittle and weak thermal properties. Herein, we constructed a vine-like MXene@MoS 2 /Carbon nanofiber aerogel (MMoCA) via directed freezing method and cellulose carbonization treatment. The obtained MMoCA exhibited long-range-aligned 3D porous lamellar structure and the MXene@MoS 2 attached to carbon nanofiber surface presented good dispersion inside the aerogel. Such a novel aerogel bestowed the EP composites with outstanding thermal properties through constructing continuous oriented thermal diffusion channels inside the EP matrix. Meanwhile MMoCA reinforced EP composites (MMoCA-EP) showed great potential in tribological application, resulting from the rapid friction heat dissipation and high-quality transfer films during the friction process . This study has a significant guidance to develop high performance polymer composites in the frontier field of tribology .

Constructing flower-like core@shell structured CoFe@MoO2/MoS2 magnetic nanocomposites for strong wideband microwave absorption

Lin Long,Xiaosi Qi,Lei Wang,Shaohong Cai,Mingsen Deng

Magnetic-dielectric nanocomposites with excellent synergetic effect were deemed as the ideal candidates for high-performance microwave absorbers (MAs). Herein, we adopted a simple hydrothermal route and hydrogenous reduction to synthesize magnetic-dielectric CoFe@MoO 2 /MoS 2 flower-like multicomponent nanocomposites (MCNCs). By controlling the different reduction temperature and time, the content of component (i.e., CoFe, MoO 2 and MoS 2 ) can be easily tuned, which is conducive to adjust electromagnetic parameter and optimize magnetic loss. Results demonstrated that the CoFe@MoO 2 /MoS 2 flower-like MCNCs could be easily regulated by simply changing the content of CoFe in favor of improved magnetic loss and optimized impedance matching. So, the prepared magnetic-dielectric CoFe@MoO 2 /MoS 2 flower-like MCNCs presented the minimum reflection loss of −55.91 dB and the widest effective bandwidth of 7.24 GHz. The strategies for adjusting rich interfaces and optimized magnetic loss are very instructive for the development of high-performance MAs and devices.

Lan Wang,Zhaoya Fan,Feng Yue,Shuo Zhang,Shuo Qin,Chenhao luo,Long Pang,Jianguo Zhao,Jingjing Du,Baodan Jin,Hongzhong Zhang

Nitrite pollution poses a serious threat to human health and the environment. In this study, a reliable and selective electrochemical (EC) sensor was developed for the quantitative determination of nitrite by combining flower-like three-dimensional (3D) MoS 2 microspheres with two-dimensional (2D) C 3 N 4 nanosheets. Benefiting from the synergistic effects of MoS 2 and C 3 N 4 , the 3D MoS 2 /2D C 3 N 4 nanocomposite displayed numerous active sites, a 3D mesoporous structure, high conductivity and excellent catalytic activity. The 3D MoS 2 /2D C 3 N 4 -modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) exhibited a superior electrocatalytic activity toward nitrite oxidation, with a wider linear detection range (0.1–1100 μM), a lower detection limit (LOD) (0.065 μM, S/N = 3), outstanding stability, remarkable reproducibility and strong selectivity. Furthermore, the nitrite EC sensor was successfully applied to detect actual food and environmental samples involving sausage, pickled vegetables, river water and tap water, thus demonstrating the potential of the prepared 3D MoS 2 /2D C 3 N 4 /GCE for food analysis and environmental monitoring.

Yanhua Lei,Mengchao Ding,Sha Cheng,Da Huo,Fei Zhang,Tao Liu,Yuliang Zhang

The transition metal sulfide MoS 2 has attracted great interest from the scientific community as an excellent co-catalyst for promoting Fe 2+ /Fe 3+ cycling in advanced oxidation processes to enhance the efficiency of H 2 O 2 decomposition. A photothermal-enhanced photo-Fenton pollutant degradation strategy was proposed. Hybrids of magnetically recyclable Fe 3 O 4 fabricated 1 T-2 H MoS 2 (1 T-2 H MoS 2 @Fe 3 O 4 ) with excellent photothermal conversion efficiency were fabricated to overcome the limitations of relatively low catalytic activity and cycling stability in Fenton reaction. XRD , Raman, TEM and hysteresis loop were employed to evaluate the heterogeneous phase 1 T-2 H MoS 2 nanoflowers as well as the magnetic property . The 1 T-2 H MoS 2 @Fe 3 O 4 hybrids with excellent photothermal conversion efficiency not only enhance the reaction temperature of the Fenton reaction occurring on the material surface, but also demonstrate an effective interfacial photothermal water evaporation efficiency. Due to the synergistic effect of photocatalysis and photo-Fenton catalytic reaction , a quick degradation of simulated pollution were achieved in 5 mins with 98.3% degradation, which could be further improved to 99% due to the photothermal promoting reaction. The 1 T-2 H MoS 2 @Fe 3 O 4 hybrids exhibit good magnetic recyclability, cyclic stability and photothermal performance, which endow it a wide potential application in the field of environmental remediation and the field of water evaporation at the photothermal interface, etc.

Nano-Ni-Induced Electronic Modulation of MoS2 Nanosheets Enables Energy-Saving H2 Production and Sulfide Degradation

Fan Liu,Xinghong Cai,Yang Tang,Wenqian Liu,Qianwei Chen,Peixin Dong,Maowen Xu,Yangyang Tan,Shujuan Bao

Electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution and sulfion (S 2− ) recycling are promising strategies for boosting H 2 production and removing environmental pollutants. Here, a nano-Ni-functionalized molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) nanosheet was assembled on steel mesh (Ni-MoS 2 /SM) for use in sulfide oxidation reaction-assisted, energy-saving H 2 production. Experimental and theoretical calculation results revealed that anchoring nano-Ni on high-surface-area slack MoS 2 nanosheets not only optimized catalyst adsorption of polysulfides but also played an important role in promoting hydrogen evolution reaction kinetics by absorbing OH ad , thereby greatly enhancing the catalytic performance toward sulfide oxidation reaction and hydrogen evolution reaction. Meanwhile, the Ni/MoS 2 -based hydrogen evolution reaction + sulfide oxidation reaction system achieved nearly 100% hydrogen production efficiency and only consumed 61% less power per kWh than the oxygen evolution reaction + hydrogen evolution reaction system, which suggested our proposed Ni-MoS 2 and novel hydrogen production system are promising for sustainable energy production.
