Hybrid magnesium-lithium batteries (MLIBs) have become the focus of research due to the advantages of combining a magnesium metal anode (free dendrite) and Li-driven reaction cathode (fast ion diffusion rate). VS 4 with large interchain space can be used as a potential cathode for MLIBs, but its low conductivity and weak structural stability limit the development of MLIBs. In this work, MoS 2 was introduced into VS 4 to induce the generation of abundant sulfur vacancies , which improved the structural stability and Li + ion transport properties of VS 4 . The VS 4 /MoS 2 cathode retains stability and an impressively high reversible capacity of 581.7 mAh·g −1 after 100 cycles, corresponding to a capacity retention of 98.99 % (compared with the second cycle). Meanwhile VS 4 /MoS 2 still has 472.64 mAh·g −1 at high current density of 1500 mA·g −1 , which is much higher than that of NF-VS 4 (11.9 mAh·g −1 ) and VF-VS 4 (29.8 mAh·g −1 ). This work points the way to ameliorate Mg-based rechargeable batteries.

A series of MoS 2 -modified CuO (CuO/MoS 2 ) heterostructures were successfully fabricated. The photodegradation properties of organic dyes were explored in detail under visible light. The photocatalytic results demonstrate that the CuO/MoS 2 -3 heterostructure delivers superior degradation rates towards methyl violet dye (MV) and rhodamine B (RhB), reaching 99.8% and 95.3% within 30 min, respectively. The decent photodegradation activity is due to improved visible light adsorption and faster transfer of electron-hole pairs. The radical trapping experiments show that superoxide radicals (· O 2 - ) and holes (h + ) are the main active species in the removal of MV. Furthermore, the CuO/MoS 2 -3 composite possesses the prominent stability and recyclability. This work offers a highly sustainable technique for designing a high-efficiency photocatalyst to remove environmental pollutants.

Two-dimensional (2D) layered transitional metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) semiconductors like MoS 2 have been predicted to be promising thermoelectric (TE) materials due to their high carrier mobility. However, the TE performance of MoS 2 film is severely hindered by the high in-plane thermal conductivity. In this work, based on reversing grain orientation reducing in-plane thermal conductivity, Cu doping is used to increase the carrier concentration for optimization of electrical properties. The Cu-doped MoS 2 films have prepared by magnetron sputtering (MS) combined with post-sulfurization chemical vapor deposition (CVD). The composition, structure, thermal and electrical properties were systematically investigated by experiment and DFT calculation. Results indicate that Cu doping may slightly reduce the Seebeck coefficient of MoS 2 film, but effectively narrow the band gap and improve the carrier concentration, thus improving the electrical performance. In addition, MS combined with CVD method can effectively increase the degree of grain misorientation, making the in-plane thermal conductivity of Cu-doped MoS 2 film much lower. Combined with the above optimization, a promising maximum ZT value among TMDCs 0.137 at 425 K was obtained in Cu 6 -MoS 2 film. This study provides a new strategy to synchronously regulate the thermal and electrical properties of TMDCs films to improve their thermoelectric performances.

Metastable monoclinic molybdenum trioxide (β-MoO 3 ) combined with perfect hexagonally-shaped MoS 2 and graphene nanosheets are fabricated by facile mechanochemical-molten salt treatment of irregularly-shaped molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) and graphite in air. This hybrid nanostructure exhibits an excellent Li-ion storage performance, outperforming the nanocomposites made of conventional orthorhombic α-MoO 3 . To this end, ball-milled MoS 2 and graphite are treated in the presence of sodium chloride (NaCl) at 900–1200 °C, leading to the preparation of MoS 2 /MoO x @graphene (MSO@G) nanocomposites in an easily scalable and affordable way. The formation of β-MoO 3 is realized at 1100 °C (MSO@G-1100), outperforming the electrochemical performances of other samples and the initial MoS 2 . Moreover, the influence of binder on the electrochemical performance of MSO@G-1100 is studied, based on which polystyrene acrylic-acrylate (SAE) is found to provide a considerably low charge transfer resistance (27.59 Ω), outperforming conventional binders. The electrode exhibits a reversible Li-ion storage capacity of 878 mAh g −1 after 245 cycles at the current density of 100 mA g −1 . The capacitive contribution to the total Li-ion energy storage performance of MSO@G-1100/SAE is found to be significant with the value of around 62% at the potential scan rate of 0.3 mV s −1 . This article report on the facile, clean and sustainable preparation of β-MoO 3 based nanocomposites with remarkable electrochemical performance.

Herein, we designed and constructed MoS 2 @Co 1.11 Te 2 /Co-doped nitrogen carbon dodecahedron with Te nanorods (Co-NCD-T) by rational structure engineering. The as-synthesized MoS 2 @Co 1.11 Te 2 /Co-NCD-T composite served as a bifunctional catalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction and triiodide reduction reaction. The incorporation of Te nanorods provided additional charge transport channels and subsequently accelerated the electron transport between the electrode and electrolyte. The synergistic effect between Co 1.11 Te 2 and MoS 2 further enhanced the catalytic activity. The MoS 2 @Co 1.11 Te 2 /Co-NCD-T electrode catalyst showed an overpotential of 124 mV when the current density was 10 mA·cm −2 and a small Tafel slope of 49 mV·dec −1 in an alkaline medium. The assembled solar cell exhibited a superior conversion efficiency of 9.00%, significantly higher than Pt (7.32%). The proposed strategy based on rational structure engineering is expected to facilitate the fabrication of hybrids for multi-functional applications.

Efficient removal of tetracycline (TC) has become a global challenge because the unsatisfactory removal rate of traditional sewage treatment technology . A carbon-based material (MoS 2 @SBC) was synthesized by one-pot hydrothermal method using municipal sludge as the feedstock to remove TC from water. Characterization analysis showed that MoS 2 @SBC had abundant functional groups (e.g., -OH, C O, S H) and large surface area. The maximum adsorption capacity of MoS 2 @SBC for TC could reach 229.2 mg/g at 298 K. Elovich model and Langmuir model better fitted the kinetics and isotherms data, respectively, which illustrated that chemisorption dominated the process of TC adsorption onto MoS 2 @SBC. Liquid film diffusion and intraparticle diffusion simultaneously controlled the adsorption process . The thermodynamics study described that adsorption was a spontaneous, endothermic and randomness increasing process. The ionic species/strength and solution pH were the critical factors affecting the adsorption process. The kinetics, isotherms and thermodynamics analysis, together with characterization results demonstrated that π-π conjugation, H-bonding, electrostatic interaction and pore filling were the main adsorption mechanisms. Additionally, the adsorption capacity of MoS 2 @SBC for TC in the actual waters (Yangtze River water and Nanhu Lake water) was inhibited. Furthermore, NaOH regeneration could maintain the sustainable adsorption performance of MoS 2 @SBC. This study developed a promising adsorbent for TC removal and provided a resource utilization approach for sludge.

The weak adhesion and tribological properties of polyimide (PI) restrict its practical application as bonded solid lubricating coatings in high-tech fields. Herein, a novel PI bonded solid lubricating coating was prepared using hyperbranched polysiloxane containing Si-O-C chain segments (HBPSi) and MoS 2 /reduced graphene oxide (rGO) heterostructured particles. Surprisingly, the adhesion, average coefficient of friction, wear life and load carrying capacity of the PI bonded solid lubricating coating can achieve level 1, 0.03, 550 s and 3400 N, respectively. In particular, the average coefficient of friction in the stabilization stage is reduced by 91.4 % compared to the pure PI coating, which is superior to that of most reported polyimide coatings. This is attributed to the synergistic enhancement effect of “soft-hard” particles between HBPSi and MoS 2 /rGO heterostructured particles. Furthermore, this work provides an important direction for the design and preparation of high-performance bonded solid lubricating coatings.

Hybrids of fluorinated graphite/MoS2(FGr@MoS2) were prepared via a hydrothermal method and used as lubricating additives to take full advantage of the synergy between FGr and MoS2in carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP). The results show a 21.6% reduction in the friction coefficient compared to the neat sample when the CFRP was filled with 1.2 wt.% FGr@MoS2hybrids. The addition of 1.5 wt.% FGr@MoS2resulted in a 60.9% reduction in the wear rate compared to neat CFRP. For the 1.2 wt.% FGr@MoS2-reinforced CFRP, the friction coefficient maintained a relatively steady value of approximately 0.46 at various temperatures, indicating frictional stability. However, the wear rate increased by 13.95% at 60 °C compared to that at room temperature. The interfacial bonding force between the FGr@MoS2hybrid and the matrix, as well as the adhesive force with the surface of the counterpart ball, is improved, caused by the heterostructure of FGr@MoS2, resulting in enhanced mechanical properties and formation efficiency as well as the transfer film on the surface of the counterpart ball. The results suggest that an FGr@MoS2micro-nano structure is a promising additive to be applied in polymer tribology.Keywords:CFRP;FGr@MoS2hybrid;dry sliding;self-lubricating;temperature

The hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) happens at the interface between the electrolyte and the electrocatalysts . Thus, the outer surface of electrocatalysts is regarded as the most important towards the catalytic performance, considering its direct contact with the electrolyte. However, the interior part of catalysts could also have an influence on the HER performances. Herein, the HER catalytic performances of MoS 2 nanosheets are proven to be enhanced by the interior NiCo 2 S 4 nanotube skeletons, although the interior skeletons are unaccessible for the electrolyte during the HER process. The reasons may lie in the optimized electronic transport properties and much increased amount as well as intrinsic activity of active sites. The theoretical calculations and experimental results suggest enhanced adsorption of H* and accelerated Heyrovsky step of the HER process for the NiCo 2 S 4 supported MoS 2 , which may be the reason of the improved intrinsic activity of the active sites. Moreover, calculation of the densities of states suggests the metallic nature of the heterostructures , which could result in the excellent electronic transport performance for NiCo 2 S 4 supported MoS 2 . In addition, the enhancement has a close relationship with the amount of the loading MoS 2 . Besides, compared with bared NiCo 2 S 4 nanotubes, the MoS 2 loaded NiCo 2 S 4 nanostructures also exhibit better HER catalytic activity as well as improved catalytic stability. This work offers an effective and facile way to design and prepare efficient non-precious metal HER catalysts.

Water electrolysis is an effective method of obtaining hydrogen energy, which is the key to achieve the global “carbon neutrality” goal. Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) with a layered structure is considered to be a competitive hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) catalyst. However, until now, metal-atom-modified 1T-phase MoS2 with rich edge active sites has rarely been reported. Herein, we first report Co and Al co-optimized 1T-phase MoS2 (CA-1T-MoS2) with rich edge active sites using a simple one-step ball-milling method. The CA-1T-MoS2 exhibits an outstanding HER performance with an overpotential value of 102 mV at 10 mA cm–2 in 1.0 M KOH. The density functional theory (DFT) results prove that the introduction of Co and Al atoms on the rich edges of 1T-MoS2 provides rich active sites, improves the electrical conductivity, accelerates the distortion of H2O to generate H* and reduces the adsorption energy of hydrogen. Thus, CA-1T-MoS2 exhibits a prominent HER performance. This work provides a novel strategy for the simple preparation of metal-atom-modified 2D transition-metal sulfide HER catalysts with rich edge active sites.

Photocatalytic removal of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) based on semiconductor is important under visible light for environment and energy. Herein, a visible light-responsive heterojunction composed of molybdenum disulfide and zinc indium sulfide was synthesized through a simple one-pot hydrothermal method to ensure full contact between the two components to efficiently improve the Cr(VI) reduction. The MoS 2 /ZnIn 2 S 4 composites build heterojunctions between MoS 2 and ZnIn 2 S 4 to inhibit recombination of photogenerated holes and electrons and provide the reaction sites to trap photogenerated electrons to participate in the reduction of Cr(VI). The highly efficient reduction of Cr(VI) was obtained by adjusting the proportion of molybdenum disulfide. It demonstrates that the 0.5 wt% MoS 2 /ZnIn 2 S 4 composite microstructures show the highest degradation rate of 0.1989 s −1 under visible light irradiation, 1.7 times of bare ZnIn 2 S 4 . Moreover, the MoS 2 /ZnIn 2 S 4 showed excellent stability during photocatalytic recyclable processes. This work encourages researchers to remove Cr(VI) by constructing effective heterojunction structures.

Self-healing hydrogels exhibit special self-healing or self-recovery function like human skin after injuring, thereafter, draw lots of attention in biomedical applications. However, self-healing hydrogels with strong mechanical and rapid self-healing properties are not fully realized. MoS 2 /polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogels are developed to achieve rapid self-healing function by utilizing the excellent photothermal conversion effect of MoS 2 under near-infrared (NIR) light. Effects of microstructure and content of MoS 2 on self-healing and mechanical properties of MoS 2 /PVA hydrogels are investigated, including flower-like MoS 2 spheres by bottom-up hydrothermal reaction and MoS 2 sheets by liquid-phase stripping method. The MoS 2 /PVA hydrogels embodied with the two types of MoS 2 were produced by simple freezing/thawing method, and exhibited rapid self-healing function, together with simultaneous enhancement of strength and ductility. The MoS 2 /PVA hydrogel modified by flower-like MoS 2 spheres with a content of 0.5 wt% presents a significant self-healing function with a healing efficiency up to 90.0% within 5 min, and an enhancement of tensile strength of 9.1 MPa (190% to blank PVA) and a ductility of 162.5% (290% to blank PVA). Furthermore, the MoS 2 /PVA gel with flower-like MoS 2 spheres into the PVA networks produces a significant enhancement of fracture strength (58.4 MPa) after fully curing, characterized by an increases of 612% compared with the pure PVA. The photo-induced self-healing and strengthening effects of the MoS 2 /PVA hydrogels are discussed.
