Introduction Bone tissue defects frequently occur following trauma, bone tumor resection, and orthopedic surgery. The complex local microenvironment serves as a critical factor impeding bone tissue repair. Cell-based scaffolds typically exhibit stable physicochemical properties, provide a favorable growth microenvironment. Hydrogels and electret membranes have been widely applied in bone tissue engineering. Methods In this study, we fabricated polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) electret membranes and sodium alginate/sodium hyaluronate (SA/HA) double-network hydrogels separately, and systematically characterized their physicochemical and biological properties. Results Following verification of their favorable biocompatibility, we found that the combined application of SA/HA@PVDF composites significantly enhances calcium nodule formation in human dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) in vitro. In addition, the expression levels of osteogenic marker proteins were elevated in the SA/HA@PVDF group and were significantly higher than those in the single-agent application groups, indicating that SA/HA@PVDF exhibits a stronger capacity to promote the osteogenic differentiation of DPSCs in vitro. Subsequently, rat mandibular defect models were established, and PVDF electret membranes, SA/HA hydrogels, and SA/HA@PVDF composites were transplanted into the defect sites. The results of micro-computed tomography, hematoxylin-eosin staining, Masson staining, and immunohistochemical staining demonstrated that the composite scaffold significantly accelerated the repair of mandibular bone defects. Conclusions Our findings may provide novel insights into the combined application of electret membranes and hydrogels in bone regeneration.

Oxide electrolyte Li 1.5 Al 0.5 Ge 1.5 (PO4) 3 (LAGP) has attracted much attention due to their potential and are considered ideal electrolytes for next-generation high-energy-density solid-state lithium metal batteries. However, their application is still limited by problems such as poor solid-solid interface contact, high interface resistance, lithium dendrite growth, and embrittlement during operation. To address these issues, our work propose a synergistic strategy to prepare a novel flexible quasi-solid-state ceramic-polymer electrolyte. This electrolyte is composed of [N1,4,4,4]TFSI ionic liquid (IL), polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), LiTFSI salt, and LAGP, which significantly improves the ionic conductivity and cycle stability of the ceramic-polymer electrolyte battery. The prepared LAGP/PVDF composite electrolyte exhibits an ionic conductivity as high as 1.16 × 10 −3 S cm −1 . LAGP nanoparticles have the dual function than not only can reduce the crystallinity of the polymer matrix; but also act as lithium-ion conductors to enhance lithium-ion transport capabilities. Furthermore, the Li/LiFeO 4 battery based on this ceramic-polymer electrolyte exhibits excellent interfacial compatibility and dendrite-free characteristics, with significantly enhanced cycle stability, capable of stable operation exceeding 300 cycles. This work demonstrates the feasibility of the PVDF/LAGP ceramic-polymer electrolyte and its industrial application prospects in solid-state lithium metal batteries.

Energy harvesting technologies are gaining attention because of their potential to generate power from ambient sources like light and mechanical motion. The development of advanced electrospun polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) flexible films with dual functionality (photothermal-piezoelectric effect) has become a prominent area of research, focusing on optimizing their hydrophilicity. Herein, electrospun MnO 2 nanosheets/PVDF flexible films are sequentially fabricated to transform the dielectric and ferroelectric properties, which result in an open-circuit voltage of 20 V and a short-circuit current of 0.10 μA under repeated mechanical force of 10 N at 2 Hz. Wearable films demonstrated the ability to harvest the biomechanical energy of human movements, such as finger and joint tapping, as well as wearable shoe soles that harvest energy from walking and running. More importantly, the impregnation of polypyrrole over MnO 2 /PVDF films (MnPVDF@PPy) and post-hydrophilic modification achieved an enhanced evaporation rate of 1.85 kg m −2 h −1 and waste heat recovery into open-circuit voltage of 135 mV and a short-circuit current of 33 mA under one sun irradiation. The unique interplay between photo-piezo-electro mechanisms ensures efficient energy flow, robustness, and adaptability in dynamic environments by addressing critical challenges such as water scarcity and intelligent sensing with a single, multifunctional platform.

Dendrite growth and interfacial instability in conventional liquid electrolytes limit the practical application of lithium metal batteries (LMBs). Composite solid electrolytes (CSEs) offer a promising alternative, yet challenges remain in achieving high ionic conductivity and low interfacial resistance. In this study, a series of sponge-like porous Li 1.3 Al 0.3 Ti 1.7 (PO 4 ) 3 @PMMA/PVDF-HFP CSE membranes (LPPH1:x) were fabricated via phase separation-solution casting. A multistage ion transport channel was constructed through the synergistic combination of the polymer matrix, inorganic fillers, and liquid electrolytes. The incorporation of PMMA suppressed the crystallization of PVDF-HFP, while the ester groups in PMMA facilitated Li salt dissociation through coordination with Li + . LPPH1:3 exhibited optimal comprehensive performance: a high ionic conductivity of 2.75 × 10 −3 S·cm −1 at room temperature, a Li + transference number of 0.62, and an electrochemical stability window of 4.9 V. Moreover, the symmetric cell demonstrated stable cycling for over 2000 h at 0.2 mA·cm −2 . The LiFePO 4 full cell retained 96.4% capacity after 200 cycles at 0.5C. Post-cycling characterization confirmed that LPPH1:3 suppressed lithium dendrite growth and maintained a stable interfacial structure. This work provides an innovative material design strategy and theoretical foundation for developing high-performance solid-state LMBs.

The CoFe 2 O 4 @reduced graphite oxide (rGO) was prepared by a one-step solvothermal reaction, and then the Ag nanoparticles were deposited on the CoFe 2 O 4 @rGO by a green mild reduction reaction to form the novel Ag-CoFe 2 O 4 @rGO filler, followed by the modification of Ag-CoFe 2 O 4 @rGO using hexadecyltrimethoxysilane to form the novel H-Ag-CoFe 2 O 4 @rGO filler. The homogeneous distribution of the Ag-CoFe 2 O 4 @rGO and H-Ag-CoFe 2 O 4 @rGO fillers in the polar PVDF plastic polymer and nonpolar SBS elastomer copolymer, respectively, to form the corresponding composites was proved by SEM. The polar crystal content of the PVDF matrix in the Ag-CoFe 2 O 4 @rGO(10 wt.%)/PVDF composite was 36.13%, while the corresponding value for pure PVDF was 29.38%. The dielectric constant at 1000 Hz of Ag-CoFe 2 O 4 @rGO(10 wt.%)/PVDF and H-Ag-CoFe 2 O 4 @rGO(10 wt.%)/SBS composites was 15.54 and 2.78, respectively, while the corresponding values for pure PVDF and pure SBS were 8.39 and 2.05, respectively. Additionally, although both pure PVDF and pure SBS were non-magnetic, the magnetization values of Ag-CoFe 2 O 4 @rGO(10 wt.%)/PVDF and H-Ag-CoFe 2 O 4 @rGO(10 wt.%)/SBS composites were 0.83 emu/g and 0.47 emu/g, respectively, at 50,000 Oe. The as-prepared Ag-CoFe 2 O 4 @rGO/PVDF and H-Ag-CoFe 2 O 4 @rGO/SBS composites should have the potential for different applications including dielectric capacitors, dielectric elastomers, sensors, EMI shielding, and so on. Three dimensional (3D) poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone)-grafted-mesoporous silica (MS-g-PVP) was first synthesized, and explored as a filler for enhancing filtration performance of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) composite membrane in this study. Membrane structure, interfacial property and filtration performance of the composite membranes were studied in detail. The relationships of mesoporous silica properties with membrane performance was systemically revealed. The 3D morphology of MS-g-PVP, that stably anchored in PVDF, endowed the membrane with defects-free, uniform and straight finger-like pores structure, and thus greatly enhanced water flux (maximized to 80.7 L m -2 h −1 , over 5.7 times than that of pristine PVDF membrane), without BSA rejection efficiency changing (98.6%). Three reasons can be accounted for the membrane performance improvement: i. The hydrophilic MS-g-PVP well dispersed in PVDF membrane matrix, and facilitated the formation of the evenly porous structure for the composite membrane; ii. Surface segregation of MS-g-PVP with the amount and diversity of oxygen-/nitrogen-containing groups on membrane surface, thus improving membrane surface hydrophilicity with contact angle decreasing from 89.0 ° to 70.6 ° ; iii. Numerous mesopores inside of MS-g-PVP provided additional water pathways. In addition, these synergistic effects also enhanced the fouling-resistance of PVDF/MS-g-PVP membrane, whose flux recovery ratio maintained at 85.8% even after three “fouling-cleaning” dynamic BSA solution (0.2 g L -1 ) filtration cycles.

In this paper, a versatile polyvinylidene fluoride/carbonyl iron (PVDF/CI) composite film was prepared by doping magnetic carbonyl iron (CI) particles into piezoelectric polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) matrix. Without influencing the piezoelectric structure of PVDF, CI particles enhanced the Young's modulus and maximum tensile strength of composite films. Due to the magnetic driven characteristic, PVDF/CI composite films exhibited distinct magnetic-mechanic-electric coupling properties. The piezoelectric charge signals could be generated by applying the bending deformation or magnetic field . Taking PVDF/CI-10% (CI content was 10 wt%) film as an example, the piezoelectric charges under 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 mm bending displacement were 3.0, 9.6, 14.9, 18.6, and 24.6 pC respectively. Moreover, when the magnetic field varied from 0 to 600 mT, the generated magneto-electric charges of PVDF/CI-10% film increased from 0 to 676 pC. The quantitative relationship between magnetic field and magneto-electric charges was obtained by the polynomial fitting method and the correlation coefficient was up to 0.97. Owing to the ideal piezoelectricity, excellent stability, light weight and desirable flexibility, PVDF/CI composite films showed promising applications in deformation sensor and magnetic field sensor.

In this paper, a multi-filler synergistic strategy combined with multi-layer hot pressing technology was developed to optimize the thermal conductivity and insulation properties of composite materials. Boron nitride nanosheets (BNNS), aluminium oxide (Al 2 O 3 ) microspheres and silver (Ag) nanoparticles were incorporated to construct a three-dimensional thermal conduction network within a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) thermally conductive composite film . An electrospun PVDF fiber film was first prepared to be used as a template. BNNS and Al 2 O 3 were then electrostatically assembled on the surface of the PVDF fiber and in the film to obtain continuous BNNS/PVDF fiber film and Al 2 O 3 /PVDF fiber film, respectively. Ag nanoparticles were then prepared in situ on the Al 2 O 3 /PVDF fiber film to obtain an Ag-enhanced Al 2 O 3 /PVDF fiber film. A sandwich structured PVDF composite film (B-A@Ag-B/PVDF) was finally prepared by hot pressing, using the BNNS/PVDF fiber films as the top and bottom layers and the Ag-enhanced Al 2 O 3 /PVDF fiber film as the middle layer. The resulting B-A@Ag-B/PVDF composite film, with a total filler mass fraction of 32.1 %, had in-plane and through-plane thermal conductivities of 4.13 W m – ¹ K – ¹ and 1.05 W m – ¹ K – ¹, respectively, improvements of 1620 % and 452 % compared to those of pure PVDF. In addition, the through-plane electrical conductivity was as low as 5.38 × 10 – ¹¹ S/cm, matching the standards for insulating materials . The B-A@Ag-B/PVDF composite film demonstrates significant potential for advanced thermally conductive polymer composites .

The performance contradiction between dielectric constant and breakdown strength restricted the significant improvement in energy storage density of common dielectrics. In this work, the ternary BaTiO 3 @Ag/PVDF composites were prepared, in which the fibrous BaTiO 3 fillers were prepared by electrospinning and further modified with silver (Ag) nanoparticles via silver mirror reaction. Dielectric performance of the composites was effectively improved by the hybrid fillers owing to the synergies of the increased polarizations and the Coulomb blockade effect. Dielectric constant and breakdown strength of the composites with only 0.2 wt% filling content reached 14.8 and 421.7 MV/m, which were respectively increased 124.4% and 135.9% compared to that of the pristine PVDF. And the maximum energy storage density was increased to 4.5 J/cm 3 with the ultra-low content of fillers. This work broke the inherent contradictions in single-layer composites and provided novel attempts for dielectric modulation of dielectrics.

Poor interfacial stability and dendrite penetration at the lithium metal anode interface are critical bottlenecks hindering the practical application of garnet-type solid electrolytes, despite their high intrinsic ionic conductivity. Herein, we resolve this long-standing trade-off by designing a hierarchical sandwich heterostructure. This architecture comprises a dense Li 6.4 Ga 0.2 La 3 Zr 2 O 12 (C-LGLZO) ceramic scaffold sandwiched between two ZIF-8@SiO 2 /PVDF-HFP (ZSPH) composite interfacial layers. The resulting composite solid electrolyte (CSE) C-LGLZO/ZSPH exhibits exceptional electrochemical properties: a high Li + transference number (t Li+ = 0.77) and an outstanding ionic conductivity of 1.31 × 10 −3 S cm −1 at 30 °C. Mechanistically, while the robust central C-LGLZO scaffold provides a continuous Li + pathway and physically blocks dendrites, the honeycomb-like porous ZSPH interfacial layers homogenize the interfacial electric field and promote a stable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI). This synergistic design endows the CSE with a wide electrochemical stability window (4.8 V vs. Li/Li + ) and enables stable Li plating/stripping for over 1000 h. Furthermore, cells using a LiFePO 4 cathode retain 76.3 % of their capacity after 500 cycles at 0.5C, demonstrating exceptional high-rate cycling stability. This work offers a versatile architectural strategy for engineering robust solid-state batteries (SSBs).

Poly (ethylene oxide) (PEO)-based solid polymer electrolyte is always the most promising candidate for preparing thinner, lighter and safer lithium-ion batteries. However, the lithium dendrites growth of lithium anode and the high-voltage oxidation of cathode are easy to cause the PEO-based battery failure. The way to deal with the different challenges on both sides of the anode and cathode is pursued all the time. In this study, we reported a new strategy to construct the PVDF/PEO/PVDF three-layer structure for solid polymer electrolyte (marked as PVDF@PEO) using PVDF as the functional “skin”. The PVDF@PEO electrolyte can effectively prevent from the lithium dendrites, and shows a stable cycling life over 1000 h in the Li/PVDF@PEO/Li cell. In addition, the PVDF@PEO electrolyte exhibits higher oxidation resistance and can be matched with high-voltage LiCoO 2 cathode. The Li/PVDF@PEO/ LiCoO 2 cell delivered a specific capacity of about 150 mAh g −1 over 150 cycles and maintained good cycling stability. Our research provides insights that the polymer electrolytes constructed with PVDF functional “skin” can simultaneously meet the challenges of both anode and cathode in solid-state lithium-ion batteries (SSLIBs).

Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) based electrolytes are promising for lithium metal batteries, yet they suffer from low ionic conductivity, severe Li-metal side reactions, and poor dendrite suppression. This study presents a synergistic modification strategy integrating HfO 2 nanoparticles with ionic liquid to develop a high-performance composite electrolyte (PVHE). The incorporated HfO 2 nanoparticles adsorb residual dimethylformamide (DMF) solvent to suppress interfacial side reactions, while simultaneously facilitating the in-situ formation of a Hf-containing stable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) that improves interfacial stability and inhibits lithium dendrite growth. The ionic liquid enhances the ionic conductivity by reducing the crystallinity of PVDF and regulating the solvation structure, synergistically achieving multiple performance breakthroughs with HfO 2 . The PVHE composite electrolyte exhibits an ionic conductivity of 5.75 × 10 −4 S cm −1 at 30 °C and a critical current density of 2.4 mA cm −2 . The Li|PVHE|Li cell cycles stably for over 1500 h at 0.1 mA cm −2 , and the Li|PVHE|NCM811 cell shows a capacity retention of 80.7% after 500 cycles at 1C. The multicomponent synergistic modification strategy offers a viable pathway toward the practical application of PVDF-based electrolytes and advances the understanding of the interactions among components in composite electrolyte systems.
