N, N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc) is a typical strongly polar aprotic organic solvent, and its recovery by pervaporation (PV) dehydration is important for production sustainability. However, maintaining a stable permeation flux remains challenge because of the pronounced competitive adsorption of DMAc versus water on membrane surfaces. To address this issue, hollow fiber supported T-type zeolite membrane was modified in AgNO 3 solution to tune its intrinsic pore structure and surface properties. The optimal modification conditions were determined as 0.5 M AgNO 3 concentration with an 8 h exchange time. The PV results demonstrated that the Ag + -modulated membrane could effectively improve the stability in DMAc dehydration. Compared to a dramatic 69% flux loss observed in the original membrane at 373 K, the flux loss of the Ag + -modulated membrane was only 7% after 30 h in dehydrating a 5 wt% water/DMAc mixture. At a lower operation temperature of 353 K, the dehydration flux remained completely stable. The improvement is attributed to the weakened competitive adsorption of DMAc molecules, achieved by reducing surface polarity after Ag + modulation. In addition, the simulated results further revealed that Ag + modulation enhanced water adsorption, thereby creating a steric hindrance for DMAc molecules near the pore entrances. These results suggested that Ag + modulation effectively improves the long-term stability of T-type zeolite membrane for DMAc dehydration, and presents a promising strategy for dehydrating the similar solvents.

Ti2AlC, an important member of the MAX phase family, exhibits combined metallic and ceramic characteristics, showing potential for applications in conductive composites and high-temperature structural components. However, this phase possesses a narrow thermodynamic stability window, making high-purity synthesis challenging. Conventional solid-state synthesis requires temperatures exceeding 1300 °C, where aluminum volatilization and kinetic limitations of carbon diffusion lead to impurity phases such as TiC and Ti3AlC2. Based on the ionic transport characteristics of molten salt media, this study employed the eutectic NaCl-KCl molten salt method to synthesize Ti2AlC using Ti, Al, and TiC powders within the temperature range of 1000–1150 °C. Systematic investigations revealed that an optimized raw powder composition (Ti:Al:TiC = 1:1.10:0.95) at 1100 °C yielded Ti2AlC powders with 96.1% phase purity, high crystallinity, and typical laminated structure with stable stoichiometry (Ti/Al ≈ 2:1). Furthermore, Ag/Ti2AlC composites demonstrated excellent electrical conductivity (resistivity of 5.72 μΩ·cm) and favorable mechanical properties, validating the applicability of this synthetic route for conductive composite materials.

Direct photocatalytic conversion of methane to formaldehyde (HCHO) provides a sustainable route for methane valorization. However, the exceptional inertness of the C–H bond in methane and the propensity of oxygenated products toward overoxidation have hindered the simultaneous achievement of high selectivity and appreciable productivity. Here, we report a highly efficient photocatalyst comprising metallic Ag nanoparticles anchored on oxygen-vacancy-rich WO3, which delivers a state-of-the-art HCHO yield of 28.5 mmol g–1 for 4 h with an outstanding selectivity of 96.6% under mild photothermal conditions (150 °C). Operando spectroscopic characterizations combined with theoretical calculations reveal that the interfacial synergy between Ag species and oxygen vacancies markedly enhances charge separation and enables the selective activation of CH4 and O2 into •CH3 and •OOH radicals, respectively. Moreover, moderate thermal activation accelerates the reaction kinetics while facilitating rapid HCHO desorption from the catalyst surface, thereby effectively suppressing overoxidation to CO2. This work establishes an effective strategy for selective methane valorization through the rational coupling of interfacial defect engineering and photothermal synergy, providing insights for the design of advanced photocatalytic C1 conversion systems.

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) holds significant potential for rapid food safety screening; however, its application is often constrained by substrate sensitivity, stability, and cost. Here, we developed a multifunctional SERS substrate by integrating a 3D-printed microstructured template with a slippery liquid-infused porous surface (SLIPS) and Ag/UiO-66 metal–organic framework (MOF) nanoparticles for food safety monitoring. The nearly pinning-free SLIPS interface enabled evaporation-driven enrichment of nanoparticles at microcone tips, generating dense, spatially confined hotspots with an enhancement factor (EF) of 1.44 × 108. The Ag/UiO-66@SLIPS substrate demonstrated ultrasensitive SERS detection of illicit sildenafil (SD) and food-dye additives (using rhodamine 6G as a model). The substrate achieved limits of detection (LOD) for SD of 100 pg/mL (2.11 × 10–10 M) in ethanol and 1 ng/mL (2.11 × 10–9 M) in health wine using only 10 μL samples. For rhodamine 6G (R6G), an ultralow LOD of 1 fg/mL (2.09 × 10–15 M) was obtained. Furthermore, for photocatalytically degradable dyes, the inherent catalytic activity of Ag/UiO-66 provided a self-cleaning pathway to mitigate signal carryover and enabled repeated measurements. The substrate maintained 83.5% signal intensity over 150 days and can be refreshed for continued use. This work combines biomimetic structures with functionalized nanomaterials, enabling the simple, cost-effective development of robust, uniform SERS substrates for multiscenario trace molecular sensing in food safety.

A polymer interlayer strategy was developed for screen-printed Bi 2 Te 3 -based films. • The film retains 94.16% conductivity after 5000 bending cycles at 15 mm. • Ag doping yields a high power factor of 3040.59 μW·m –1 ·K –2 at 423 K. Screen-printed Bi 2 Te 3 -based films are promising for large-scale flexible thermoelectric applications in wearable devices, however, the bending stability of such films is severely limited by the poor adhesion between the film and the commonly used polyimide substrate. To address this issue, this work introduces a polymer interlayer with low-softening-point between the thermoelectric film and the substrate to form a robust, molecular-scale bonded interface during sintering, which effectively mitigates bending-induced delamination and cracking of the Bi 2 Te 3 -based film. Consequently, the Ag-doped Bi 0.5 Sb 1.5 Te 3 film exhibits excellent mechanical stability, retaining over 94.16 % of the initial conductivity after 5000 bending cycles at a bending radius of 15 mm. Furthermore, Ag doping optimizes electrical performance by simultaneously increasing carrier concentration through cationic substitution and promoting a highly ordered lamellar structure that suppresses grain boundary scattering. This dual effect yields a superior power factor of 3040.59 μW·m –1 ·K –2 at 423 K. A thermoelectric generator fabricated from five film legs achieves a maximum output power density of 24.30 μW·mm –2 at a temperature difference of 30 K, demonstrating the practical viability of this approach for wearable applications. Antibiotic overuse has led to drug-resistant bacteria and superbugs, necessitating urgent strategies. MOFs, although they are potential antimicrobial carriers, have limitations at low doses and in single therapy. Here, by adding different amounts of CTAB in the precursor solution, two different morphologies of NH2-MIL-101(Fe)@Ag nanoagents were obtained, namely, NH2-MIL-101(Fe)@Ag-1 (Cube) and NH2-MIL-101(Fe)@Ag-2 (Octahedron). Antibacterial experiments showed that these two nano reagents with both photothermal and photodynamic effects exhibited nearly 100% bactericidal rate against high concentrations of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli (107 CFU/mL) within 15 min. The combination of inactivation of intracellular proteins and disruption of cell membranes induced by Ag ions and high temperature resulted in NH2-MIL-101(Fe)@Ag 100% in an octahedron showing durable and superior bactericidal performance at low doses (64 μg/mL), which is much better than other antibacterial reagents. Furthermore, the enhanced mechanism was discussed in detail by DFT calculations. A special electron transfer process occurred between Ag and NH2-MIL-101 (Fe) under 880 nm NIR irradiation, which promoted the generation of ROS and enhanced the antibacterial effect. In addition, these two nano reagents have good therapeutic effects on wound healing in vivo due to silver ions and photothermal effects.

In this study, we propose a liquid metal-assisted synthesis technique for high-quality two-dimensional gallium nitride (2D GaN) nanosheets and fabricate high-performance ultraviolet (UV) photodetectors based on this approach. Silver (Ag) nanoparticles (NPs) are deposited on the 2D GaN surface via magnetron sputtering to induce the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR), thereby enhancing the device’s optoelectronic performance. The results show that Ag NPs modification significantly improves the optical absorption of 2D GaN in the UV–visible range, enhances the collection efficiency of photogenerated carriers, and reduces surface defect states. The optimized photodetector, operating at a bias voltage of 10 V, achieves a higher photocurrent (7.32 × 10–5 A) and lower dark current (1.1 × 10–9 A), with the photocurrent-to-dark current ratio (Ilight/Idark) increasing from 102 to 104. The responsivity (Rλ) is improved from 0.749 A/W to 2.01 A/W, the external quantum efficiency (EQE) increases from 254 to 683%, and the specific detectivity (D*) enhances from 1.99 × 109 to 5.34 × 1010 Jones. Additionally, the device exhibits an ideal linear relationship between photocurrent and incident light intensity (θ ≈ 1.02), demonstrating improved stability and predictability in its photoresponse. This study highlights the critical role of nanoscale engineering in advancing UV optoelectronic device performance and provides an effective strategy for designing high-performance UV photodetectors.

Tungsten trioxide (WO 3 ) is recognized as one of the promising materials for catalyst support. However, its practical application is still restricted by the low specific surface area and the relatively low conduction band level. An efficient hydrothermal and room temperature plasma technique was employed to synthesize WO 3 nanoparticles (designated as WO 3 -Ar), resulting in a higher surface area and the creation of substantial oxygen vacancies on the WO 3 surface. Subsequently, Pd and Ag nanoparticles were deposited onto the WO 3 nanoparticles, which are characterized by a high specific surface area and numerous oxygen vacancies, through hydrogen reduction (PdAg/WO 3 -Ar). Electrochemical tests indicate that the PdAg/WO 3 -Ar catalysts exhibit superior electrocatalytic efficiency compared to the PdAg/C catalyst. The significantly higher electrocatalytic activity is attributed to several factors: (1) The oxygen vacancy defects and the high unique specific surface area of WO 3 -Ar facilitate the anchoring of Pd–Ag nanoparticles and enhance the electrocatalytic performance of Pd–Ag nanoparticles in PdAg/WO 3 -Ar catalysts. (2) A catalyst-support interaction exists between Pd–Ag and WO 3 -Ar, which significantly boosts the catalytic performance of the PdAg/WO 3 -Ar catalyst.

Low-surface-energy and wettability-based antifouling coatings have garnered increasing attention in marine applications owing to their environmentally friendly characteristics. However, their limited functionality often results in suboptimal long-term antifouling performance, particularly under dynamic marine conditions. To address these limitations, a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)-based slippery (PSL) coating was fabricated on TC4 titanium alloy by integrating surface silanization via (3-Aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTES), antimicrobial Ag-TiO2nanoparticles, laser-induced hierarchical microtextures, and silicone oil infusion. The resulting PSL coating exhibited excellent oil retention and stable interfacial slipperiness even after thermal aging. Compared with bare TC4, low-surface-energy Ag-containing coatings, Ag-containing superhydrophobic coatings, and conventional slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces (SLIPS), the PSL coating demonstrated markedly superior resistance to protein adsorption, bacterial attachment, and diatom settlement, indicating an enhanced synergistic antifouling effect. Furthermore, it significantly reduced the diatom concentration in the surrounding medium without complete eradication, underscoring its eco-friendly and non-disruptive antifouling mechanism. This study offers a scalable, durable, and environmentally benign antifouling strategy for marine surface protection.

Modifying nanoparticle assembly can alter the electric field strength within “hot spots,” offering promise for enhancing surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) performance. In this work, by modifying the surface of Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) with glutathione (GSH), a pH-responsive substrate, Ag-GSH nanoparticles (AGGNPs), was prepared. Under acidic conditions, hydrogen bonds form between protonated GSH molecules, inducing aggregation of AGGNPs and causing a red shift in the absorption peak. The SERS enhancement factor (EF) increased from 5.6 × 10 5 to 1.36 × 10⁶ and exhibited a good linear relationship with pH. In practical apple sample detection, the natural acidic environment of the fruit pulp enabled SERS self-optimization. Without external acid addition, the signal for thiram at 1383 cm −1 was significantly enhanced, achieving a minimum detection concentration of 10 −11 M. This approach effectively provides a novel pathway for developing highly efficient SERS sensing strategies and offers fresh insights for expanding SERS applications in agricultural detection.

The toxicity of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) on algae has been extensively studied, but the role of the cell wall in algal responses is still unclear. Therefore, two typical algae, Euglena sp. without a cell wall and Navicula sp. with a rigid cell wall, were selected to explore the role of the cell wall and different toxicity mechanisms of AgNPs using conventional toxicity endpoints and metabolomic analysis. Results showed that Navicula sp. was more sensitive to AgNPs than Euglena sp., with a 3 d EC50 of 36.36 μg L–1. Oxidative damage was not observed in the two algae when exposed to 50 μg L–1 AgNPs, but the activities of antioxidant enzymes in Euglena sp. were significantly increased, implying that the algal defense system was activated. Further analysis indicated that the toxicity of AgNPs on Navicula sp. was mainly mediated by released silver ions, which may be closely related to the presence of diatom frustules. Metabolomic analysis revealed that oxidative stress still existed in Navicula sp. exposed to 50 μg L–1 AgNPs, suggesting that some invisible changes were observed. Moreover, metabolites reflecting the level of hydrogen peroxide also decreased, indicating that oxidative stress was primarily caused by the superoxide anion. In addition, the increased metabolite indoleacetic acid may affect the algal shape, explaining why the diatom frustules played an important role in the toxicity of AgNPs. In contrast, the disruption of energy metabolism in Euglena sp. appeared to be the major cause of AgNP toxicity. Perturbations in algal metabolic pathways also suggested that AgNPs may affect RNA biosynthesis in algal cells. These findings provide insight into understanding the risk assessment of AgNPs in the aquatic environments.

In recent years, Ag-In-Ga-S (AIGS) quantum dots (QDs) have received widespread attention as non-toxic and environmentally friendly QDs. However, the low photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) restricts the further application of AIGS QDs in optoelectronic devices. Here, we constructed quinary Ag-In-Zn-Ga-S (AIZGS) QDs with outstandingly high PLQY of 92.1% by doping Zn into AIGS QDs via an economical and environment-friendly hydrothermal method. The synergistic action of the internal doped Zn providing radiative recombination channels and the surface doped Zn passivating the non-radiative recombination defects leads to enhanced PLQY of QDs. The corresponding QDs backlight films fabricated based on AIZGS QDs and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) also show a high PLQY of 82.7%. The improved PLQY of AIZGS QDs is comparable to other toxic metal-containing QDs in the same spectrum. Furthermore, the PL peak wavelength of the QDs can be tuned from 545 nm to 616 nm by varying the Ag/In ratio. The realization of high PLQY in aqueous AIZGS QDs and its backlight films contributes to the application in the field of eco-friendly backlight display devices.
