Photocatalysis combined with peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation exhibits a great potential prospect in wastewater purification. Unfortunately, the recombination of photogenerated carriers along with insufficient active sites is a bottleneck problem of PMS activation. Herein, Cu-doped Bi 2 WO 6 with oxygen vacancy (V o ) was synthesized via a one-pot solvothermal method to achieve efficient tetracycline degradation with the assistance of the PMS. By adjusting the Cu(NO 3 ) 2 ·3H 2 O amount, the 3Cu-BWO-V o exhibited an optimal photocatalytic tetracycline (TC) degradation rate of 94%, which was 2.7 times higher than pure Bi 2 WO 6 . Photoluminescence (PL), time-resolved photoluminescence (TR-PL), and linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) confirmed that the enhanced catalytic activity was owing to the additional active sites and inhibition of carrier recombination by Cu doping and oxygen vacancy. Cycling experiments further demonstrated the stability and applicability of 3Cu-BWO-V o . This work opens up a new insight into photocatalytic defect engineering and advanced oxidation technology based on PMS for environmental remediation.

A novel tetranuclear Cu(II) complex (TNC) was successfully synthesized and characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction. The interaction of the complex with calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) has been studied by UV-vis absorption titration, fluorescence technology and molecular docking. The results indicated that TNC could bind to the DNA through an intercalative mode. The agarose gel electrophoresis experiment showed that TNC could cleave supercoiled plasmid DNA into linear DNA. The anticancer activity of TNC was tested on four cancer cell lines: MCF7, A549, 4T1 and HepG2. The results indicated that TNC shown significant activity against all of above cell lines.

The 0.5Y 2 O 3 /Al 2 O 3 -Cu/30Mo3SiC and 0.3GO-0.5Y 2 O 3 /Al 2 O 3 -Cu/30Mo3SiC composites were fabricated by fast hot press sintering. Hot compression tests of the composites were carried out using the Gleeble-1500 simulator at 0.001–10 s −1 strain rates and 650–950 °C deformation temperatures. The effects of doped reduced graphene oxide (rGO) on the hot deformation behavior and microstructure of 0.5Y 2 O 3 /Al 2 O 3 -Cu/30Mo3SiC composites were investigated. Trace of molybdenum carbide (MoC) layers/nanoparticles formed in-situ at the rGO-Cu/Mo interface, which is beneficial to the interfacial bonding of the composite. The enhanced flow stress and activation energy of hot deformation is attributed to the addition of the rGO. The activation energy of the composites was improved by 11% with the addition of rGO. The dislocation density and texture orientation ratio decrease at higher deformation temperatures.

A magnetic composite microsphere, calcium alginate (CA)/carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC)@MnFe 2 O 4, was prepared using CA and CMC encapsulated MnFe 2 O 4 through blending and cross-linking for the removal of Cu(II) from aqueous solution. The CA/CMC@MnFe 2 O 4 was characterized in detail by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray phosphorescence spectroscopy. In addition, various adsorption conditions including the initial pH of Cu(II) solution, equilibrium contact time, and initial Cu(II) concentration were tested. The adsorption data fit better to the Langmuir isotherm and follow the pseudo-second-order model, suggesting that it is a monolayer adsorption process with chemisorption as the rate-limiting step. The maximum adsorption capacity of the CA/CMC@MnFe 2 O 4 was 77.22 mg g −1 at 25 ℃ and pH 5. Cu(II) removal mechanisms of CA/CMC@MnFe 2 O 4 follow ion exchange as well as the formation of complexes as evidenced based on the microstructure analysis and adsorption data fitting.

The major obstacle in membrane filtration technology is the membrane fouling, which not only decreases the membrane efficiency, but also enhances its operational cost. In order to fabricate a membrane with antifouling characteristics, potential nanofillers have been added to the engineering polymer(s) to make a composite to improve the membrane efficiency. Herein, we incorporate porphyrin-based ultrathin, highly ordered porous photothermal responsive copper tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin (Cu-TCPP) nanosheets as a novel nanofillers into the polysulfone (PSf) matrix. High loading (6 wt%) and well dispersed Cu-TCPP nanosheets incorporated polysulfone nanocomposite (Cu-TCPP/PSf) ultrafiltration membranes are prepared via non-solvent induced phase inversion. The Cu-TCPP/PSf composite membranes demonstrate pronounced antifouling and antibiofouling potential along good separation performance. The nanocomposite membranes demonstrate photo-induced pore tuning due to the local heating of photothermal Cu-TCPP nanosheets by visible light, which further improves the membrane separation efficiency. The Cu-TCPP/PSf composite membrane with 6 wt% Cu-TCPP nanosheets enhances the pure water permeance from 23.42 to 260.61 L·m −2 ·h −1 ·bar −1 , with improved antifouling potential, precise permeance recovery ratio of 99.13% after three cycles, and good separation performance for 100 and 200 nm particles. Considering relatively moderate cost, facile processing, tunable porosity, durable and good mechanical strength along restrained swelling, the Cu-TCPP/PSf membranes are considered as potential candidate as antifouling/antibiofouling ultrafiltration membranes for water purification.

Cu single atoms dispersed on N-doped carbon materials (Cu-NC) were obtained after supercritical CO 2 deposition and decompression, without further post-treatment. AC-HAADF-STEM, STEM , XRD , ICP-OES, and XPS results confirmed that the Cu atoms were equably dispersed over the N-doped carbon (NC) support with the loading of 0.80 wt%. The catalytic performance of Cu-NC in solvent-free oxidation of phenylcarbinol to benzaldehyde was investigated, and the conversion of 73.9% and selectivity of 85.7% were obtained at 50 °C for 1 h. A high-pressure view cell was used to observe the dissolution and diffusion for Cu(acac) 2 in scCO 2 . The stability of Cu-NC structures and the formation path of active oxygen species (O*) on different configurations were predicted by density functional theory (DFT) calculations, and CuN 3 C 1 was found to be more conducive to the activation of tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP).

In the present work, diverse vinyl monomers were successfully grafted onto poly(vinylidene fluoride-hexafluoropropylene) P(VDF-HFP) via direct activation of C F bonds using Cu(0)/4,4′-dimethyl-2,2′-bipyridyl (DMDP) as catalyst under mild conditions. The structure of the graft copolymer was carefully characterized, and the initiating site was confirmed at the same time. Moreover, the kinetic results indicated the controlled behavior of the graft polymerization, and the composition of the graft copolymer can be regulated by changing the reaction conditions. This work may provide a facile strategy to endow P(VDF-HFP) copolymer with new functions via directly activating C F bonds.

Symmetry-breaking synthesis of colloidal nanocrystals with desired structures and properties has aroused widespread interest in various fields, but the lack of robust synthetic protocols and the complex growth kinetics limit their practical applications. Herein, a general strategy is developed to synthesize the Au–Cu Janus nanocrystals (JNCs) through the site-selective growth of Cu nanodomains on Au nanocrystals, which is directed by the substantial lattice mismatch between them, with the assistance of judicious manipulation of the growth kinetics. This strategy can work on Au nanocrystals with different architectures for the achievement of diverse asymmetric Au–Cu hybrid nanostructures. Of particular note, the obtained Au nanobipyramids (Au NBPs)-based JNCs facilitate the conversion of CO 2 to C 2 hydrocarbon production during electrocatalysis, with the Faradaic efficiency and maximum partial current density being 4.1-fold and 6.4-fold higher than those of their monometallic Cu counterparts, respectively. The excellent electrocatalytic performances benefit from the special design of the Au–Cu Janus architectures and their tandem catalysis mechanism as well as the high-index facets on Au nanocrystals. This research provides a new approach to synthesize various hybrid Janus nanostructures, facilitating the study of structure-function relationship in the catalytic process and the rational design of efficient heterogeneous electrocatalysts.

Metallic Li, with ultrahigh theoretical capacity (3860 mA h g −1 ) and the lowest electrochemical potential (−3.04 V vs. the standard hydrogen electrode), is perfectly meet the needs of high energy density lithium batteries . However, the direct use of metallic lithium as anode would cause serious dendrite and huge volume expansion, which will bring safety hazards and restrict the practical commercialization of Li metal anodes . Herein, a facile electrophoretic deposition (EPD) method was employed for the first time to fabricate uniform TiN modified commercial Cu foam (TiN@Cu foam) as the lithiophilic 3D conductive skeleton. The lithiophilic TiN acts as the well-distributed seeds to promote the uniform lithium deposition, attributing to the lowed nucleation overpotential. The porous and conductive Cu foams can further mitigate the formation of Li dendrites, on account of its high specific surface area reduce the effective current density. The TiN@Cu foam based half cells and symmetric cells both exhibit improved reversibility and reduced polarization voltage in lithium plating/stripping process. Furthermore, better rate performance and cycling stability were also achieved in the full-cell configurations of TiN@Cu foam-Li/Li 4 Ti 5 O 12 (LTO) and TiN@Cu foam-Li/LiFePO 4 (LFP). This work demonstrates a facile strategy to modify the commercial current collectors with pre-synthesized lithiophilic nanoparticles for achieving uniform Li deposition.

Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) is a typical biomarker for lung cancer. It is very urgent to develop a sensitive and rapid method to assay CEA content in human serum. In this work, Cu-MOFs nanomaterials were synthesized by a hydrothermal method . Toluidine blue (TB) loaded mesoporous Cu-MOFs with polydopamine (PDA) coating were employed as a signal probe. The proposed sandwich immunosensor was fabricated by Cu-MOFs-TB/PDA, chitosan and MWCNTs on the glassy carbon electrode with a large surface area to immobilize primary antibodies (Ab 1 ) and provide excellent conductivity. The sensitivity improvement of this new strategy was based on the destruction of the probe and the immune complex by HCl, which resulted in the closer distance between TB and the sensing electrode. Under optimal conditions, CEA was quantitatively detected with a wide linear range from 20 fg mL −1 to 200 ng mL −1 , a low detection limit of 3.0 fg mL −1 (S/N = 3). In addition, the method showed good stability, selectivity, and reproducibility, which possessed wide potential applications for the detection of other tumour biomarkers.

Although the traditional Cu-poor architecture addresses many limitations for Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 solar cells, its further development still encounters a bottleneck in terms of efficiency, primarily arising from the inferior charge transport within the quasineutral region and enlarged recombination at back contact. On the contrary, the electrical benign kesterite compound with higher Cu content may compensate for these shortages, but it will degrade device performance more pronouncedly at front contact because of the Fermi level pinning and more electric shunts. Based on the electric disparities on their independent side, in this work, we propose a new status of Cu component by exploring a large grain/fine grain/large grain trilayer architecture with higher Cu content near back contact and lower Cu content near front contact. The benefits of this bottom Cu-higher strategy are that it imposes a concentration gradient to drive carrier diffusion toward front contact and decreases the valence band edge offset in the rear of the device to aid in hole extraction. Also, it maintains the Cu-poor architecture at the near surface to facilitate hole quasi-Fermi level splitting. In return, the local Cu component engineering-mediated electric advances contribute to the highest efficiency of 12.54% for kesterite solar cells using amine–thiol solution systems so far.

Applying different strategies, nanocomposite membranes formation from functionalized polymer(s) and compatible nanofillers is the most renowned way to make the membrane proton conductive without compromising their mechanical strength . Among different types of nanofillers, incorporating photothermal-responsive metal organic frameworks (MOFs) into the ion exchange polymer is the prominent strategy and has achieved advanced attention in smart protonic solids with versatile potential applications. In this work, ultrathin, highly ordered porous photothermal-responsive copper tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin (Cu-TCPP) nanosheets are incorporated into sulfonated polystyrene (SPS) membranes as novel nanofillers. High loading and well dispersed Cu-TCPP nanosheets incorporated nanocomposite membranes are achieved and demonstrate photo-switchable protonic conductivity due to photothermal response of MOFs nanosheets to visible light. The nanocomposite membrane with highest MOFs content shows a high proton conductivity of 1.42 × 10 −4 S cm −1 at 95 °C at 95% RH. The altered photo-switch proton conductivity of nanocomposite membranes is attributed to the formation and breakage of H-bonding networks with water molecules in the channels of proton transport pathways by the local photothermal heated Cu-TCPP nanosheets. Furthermore, after incorporation of the Cu-TCPP nanosheets into SPS, not only the thermal stability is increased but also almost zero swelling is achieved in water, which reflects the nice durability of nanocomposite membranes. This photo-switchable proton conductivity of polymer proton conducting nanocomposite membranes with nice thermal stability and negligible swelling serves as a new gate for photo-switching proton conductive membranes, photosensors , photoswitches etc .
