Low cost, high activity and stability electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) have been extensively studied in recent years. We have successfully synthesized a transition metal phosphide electrocatalyst (CoNi@CP) with coating structure . The CoNi@CP was prepared with the mild conditions. An organophosphorus ligand was synthesized by simple organic reaction . It was synthesized by coordination with Co 2+ and Ni 2+ and then calcined. CoNi@CP has abundant and uniform phosphorus atom doping, no energy consumption in phosphating process, and avoids the generation of highly toxic gas PH 3 . Because of its special coating structure, the adsorption of H ∗ on its surface was enhanced, and the active center of CoNi was protected, which contributed greatly to the improvement of catalytic performance. At 10 mA/cm 2 current density, the overpotential of the catalyst only 74 mV, and the slope of Tafel was only 83 mVdec -1 . The performance of the catalyst remained unchanged after 1000 stability tests. In addition, we had proved theoretically that the catalyst had high HER activity by DFT calculation. Therefore, it provides inspiration for us to better develop efficient transition metal phosphide electrocatalysts.

P-nitrophenol (p-NP) is widely present in soil and water environment, which brings great harm to the ecosystem. Therefore, it is of great significance to establish a rapid, sensitive, and selective method for detecting p-NP. In this work, fluorescent sulfur quantum dots (SQDs) were synthesized using a simple top-down approach. The prepared SQDs are monodisperse, uniformly distributed, and the size is about 2.9 nm. After adding p-NP, due to the internal filtering effect (IFE) between p-NP and SQDs, the fluorescence of SQDs can be effectively quenched. It is worth noting that the fluorescence quenching efficiency of the SQDs sensor shows an excellent linear relationship when the concentration of p-NP is 0.2–30 µM and 30–90 µM, respectively. The detection limit is 70 nM, which is better than other reported fluorescence sensing methods. The proposed method has been successfully applied to the detection of p-NP in water samples. Excellent recoveries of 90.9 ~ 102.0% and relative standard deviations (RSDs) of 0.33 ~ 1.66% were obtained, respectively, which confirmed the great potential of SQDs in the actual measurement of p-NP in environmental samples.

In order to obtain an efficient flame retardant without sacrificing mechanical properties and transparency of epoxy resin (EP), a P/N/S-containing flame retardant (STP) by combining 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO) with Schiff base intermediate synthesized by the reaction of sulfathiazole and 2-thenaldehyde was successfully synthesized. The synthesis of STP was verified and the properties of modified EP were studied. The test results indicated that STP slowed down the degradation rate of EP. The glass transition temperature (T g ) of the flame-retardant epoxy resin (FREP) samples were well maintained and even improved after introducing a certain amount of STP. Furthermore, FREP with low phosphorus content exerted excellent flame retardant ability, EP/5%STP (phosphorus content: 0.27 wt%) obtained the V-0 rating of UL-94 test with the value of limiting oxygen index (LOI) 33.5%. In contrast with EP, the peak heat release rate (PHRR), total heat release (THR) and total smoke production (TSP) of EP/7.5%STP were respectively decreased by 33.31%, 26.04% and 28.75%. Mechanical performance tests show that STP improved the tensile and flexural strength of EP. It is worth mentioning that the EP modified with STP still maintains good transparency.

A Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst (TiO 2 (B)/BiOCl 0.7 I 0.3 -P) was constructed (B: bronze phase; BiOCl 0.7 I 0.3 : a solid solution of BiOCl and BiOI in a molar ratio of 7:3; P: polyvinylpyrrolidone). The open channels parallel to the b-axis between the axial oxygen atoms in the bronze TiO 2 , the unique layered structure of BiOCl and the excellent light absorption characteristics of BiOI create excellent conditions for the absorption and utilization of light, the separation and transmission of photo-generated carriers in the photocatalytic process. TiO 2 (B)/BiOCl 0.7 I 0.3 -P can almost completely degrade and mineralize fomesafen within 20 min, and the environmental toxicity of the degradation products is significantly reduced. Combined with high-resolution mass spectrometry, the degradation pathway of fomesafen was proposed. In addition, TiO 2 (B)/BiOCl 0.7 I 0.3 -P can also quickly and effectively degrade phenol and acetaminophen, indicating that it has good universality. To eliminate the harm caused by various herbicides to the ecological environment, photocatalytic technology will play an increasingly important role.

In this paper, p -aramid nanoparticles ( p -ANPs) were successfully prepared in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) solution by in-situ condensation of para-phenylenediamine (PPD) and para-benzoyl chloride (TPC). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images showed that p -ANPs with diameters of 4–7 nm were distributed in PVC matrix evenly. The obtained solution could be directly used as casting solution to prepare p -ANP/PVC composite ultrafiltration membranes by phase inversion technology. The cross-section structure and surface roughness of the ultrafiltration membranes were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The mechanical properties , hydrophilicity and ultrafiltration properties of the membranes were also studied. It was confirmed that p -ANP enhanced the mechanical properties of the ultrafiltration membrane, improved the hydrophilicity of the membrane surface, and improved the antifouling properties. Meanwhile, good rejection and flux performance were maintained. The novel and facile preparation method of p -aramid nanomaterials and its composites is of great significance for prompting new applications of aramid fibers .

The poly (ethylene glycol dimethacrylate- co -vinylphenylboronic acid) P(EGDMA- co -VPBA) adsorbents are prepared via reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) precipitation polymerization with 4-vinylphenylboronic acid (VPBA) as the functional monomer, and used for selective adsorption of steviol glycosides (SGs). The boron content and pore structure of the P(EGDMA- co -VPBA) adsorbent are adjusted by changing the polymerization conditions. The adsorption results show that the pore structure of the P(EGDMA- co -VPBA) affects the adsorption capacity to SGs, the presence of boric acid functional groups shows favorable adsorption selectivity for stevioside (STV), and the adsorption selectivity is proportional to the content of boric acid in P(EGDMA- co -VPBA) adsorbents. The adsorption performance of P(EGDMA- co -VPBA) toward SGs is the best when the ratio of monomer to cross-linker is 1:50 and the solvent is acetonitrile. In the SG solution (6.0 mg mL −1 , C STV / C RA = 1:1), the adsorption capacities and adsorption selectivity ( α STV/RA ) of P(EGDMA- co -VPBA) to SGs are 113.20 mg g –1 and 4.99, respectively. The adsorption kinetics and isotherm data obey pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir isotherm model, respectively. The boric acid copolymers with VPBA as the monomer prepared by the one-step method can become a promising material for efficient separation and purification of SGs.

Amorphous/amorphous heterostructures with a large surface area are theoretically anticipated to promote the alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activity and stability. However, the growth, characterization and theoretical simulation of amorphous/amorphous nanostructured heterostructures are still challenging due to their atomic isotropy. Herein, a novel and simple strategy is developed to synthesize amorphous/amorphous Ni–P/Ni(OH)2 heterostructure nanotubes by immersing Zn@Ni–P nanowires grown by axial screw dislocation in alkaline solution. When used as an HER catalyst, the Ni–P/Ni(OH)2 nanotubes achieve considerably high electrocatalytic activity and decent stability. The significantly low overpotential of 54.7 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm−2 is among the best values reported for transition metal phosphides in alkaline solution. Density functional theory calculations indicate that the abundant defect structures of amorphous Ni–P would shift the Ni 3d band center toward the Fermi level, demonstrating an energy barrier decrease for H2 generation. Furthermore, the synergistic effect of amorphous Ni–P and Ni(OH)2 could significantly enhance H2O dissociation to supply sufficient protons for the HER.

Compound-specific isotope analysis (CSIA) is a useful technique that has received an increasing attention for studying the degradation mechanisms of organic contaminants based on stable isotope fractionation concepts. This study reports the degradation mechanisms of p -chloroaniline (PCA) at different pH values (3, 5, 7 and 9) induced by persulfate (PS) based on 13 C isotope fractionation during its preferential oxidation with SO 4 − and OH. The results showed that the degradation of PCA followed first-order kinetics (rate constants, 0.026, 0.0362, 0.0754 and 0.0497 h −1 at pH = 3, 5, 7 and 9, respectively), with the fastest degradation under neutral conditions (pH 7). The degradation rate was found to be higher under alkaline conditions (pH 9) compared to acidic conditions (pH 3 and 5). A normal carbon isotope fractionation of PAC was observed under neutral and alkaline conditions (eg., ε C = −0.8‰ ±0.10 at pH 7 and ε C = −1.0‰ ±0.17 at pH 9). However, a reverse carbon isotope effect at pH 3 (ε C = 0.6‰ ±0.07) and pH 5 (ε C = 1.1‰ ±0.06) was observed, respectively. Based on the identified transformation products and the insights revealed by CSIA, the degradation pathways were proposed. The current findings are crucial in understanding the PCA degradation mechanisms with SO 4 − and OH in aqueous systems.

Exploring electrocatalysts with satisfactory activity and durability has remained a long-lasting target for electrolyzing water, which is particularly significant for sustainable hydrogen fuel production. Here, we report a quaternary B/P-codoped transition metal Co-Mo hybrid as an efficient alternative catalyst for overall water splitting. The Co-Mo-B-P/CF dual nanowafers were deposited on a copper foam by double-pulse electrodeposition, which is favorable for achieving a nanocrystalline structure. The Co-Mo-B-P/CF catalyst shows a high catalytic activity along with good long-term stability in 1.0 M KOH solutions for both the hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions, requiring 48 and 275 mV to reach 10 mA cm–2, respectively. The synergetic effect between Co-Mo and doped B and P elements is mainly attributed to the excellent bifunctional catalysis performance, while the dual-nanowafer structure endows Co-Mo-B-P with numerous catalytical active sites enhancing the utilization efficiency of atoms. Moreover, the catalytic capability of Co-Mo-B-P/CF as a bifunctional electrocatalyst for the overall water splitting is proved, with the current density of 10 mA cm–2 accomplished at 1.59 V. After the stability test for overall water splitting at 1.59 V for 24 h, the activity almost remains unchanged. The features of excellent electrocatalytic activity, simple preparation, and inexpensive raw materials for Co-Mo-B-P/CF as a bifunctional catalyst hold great potentials for overall water splitting.

As thermo-sensitive hydrogels could absorb water quickly and squeeze the water out by their insoluble cross-linked networks under thermal stimulus, a novel osmotic membrane distillation (OMD) process was proposed for the first time. In the OMD process of this study, water vapor diffused across the membrane under the swelling pressure of thermo-sensitive hydrogels. Poly-N-isopropylacrylamide (PNIPAM) hydrogels with 0.02%, 0.1% and 0.5% N,N′-methylenebisacrylamide (MBA) were synthesized and incorporated into the OMD system. The hydrogel properties were characterized by UV–vis spectrophotometer, FTIR and SEM . The effects of MBA content, membrane characteristics, operating temperature on OMD flux were investigated. The initial fluxes for the 0.02%, 0.1% and 0.5% MBA hydrogel-OMD systems were 1.68, 1.09 and 0.76 kg/m 2 ·h, respectively. And the hydrogels transformed to dehydrated state after 150 min of water absorption. The fastest water absorption rates for PNIPAM hydrogels with 0.02%, 0.1% and 0.5% MBA were obtained at the initial swelling ratios of 16, 14 and 12 folds, respectively. Besides, the optimal feed temperatures for the maximum flux were 40 °C, 50 °C and 50 °C for hydrogels with 0.02%, 0.1% and 0.5% MBA, respectively. The membranes with higher porosity and lower thickness demonstrated higher fluxes. According to our results, the swelling pressure of hydrogel acted as a driving force of the hybrid hydrogel-OMD system, and it was greatly affected by the hydrogel structure. Typically, a hydrogel with the balanced water absorbing and dewatering behaviors and a membrane with good mass transfer performance were two essential prerequisites for this process.

Dual-site lattice doping in semiconductor materials is highly promising for photocatalysis as it can tune the sub-band electronic structure and charge distribution of the photocatalyst. However, it is challenging to precisely regulate the band structure by dual-site doping using the same heteroatom. Herein, we report the homogeneous dual-site P lattice doping in CdS quantum rods, i.e. P is homogeneously doped into both substitutional site of S and interstitial site, leading to negative shift of valence and conduction bands with extraordinary visible-light excitation efficiency. The electrons generated in the newly designed photocatalyst have strong redox potential in reducing H + into H 2 in photocatalysis. By introducing nontrivial co-catalyst Ni 3 C quantum dots onto the surface of P-CdS quantum rods, the apparent quantum efficiency of the catalyst achieves 15.7% at 435 nm, which is 5 times higher than that of pristine CdS.

The design of high-performance compounded flame retardants based on multielement can be of great significance for reducing the flammability of polymer materials. In this article, a new type of N-P-Cu containing supermolecular assembly network (MPCSN) flame retardant was prepared and subsequently added into thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer (TPU)/silicon microencapsulated ammonium polyphosphate (SiAPP) composites. The obtained results indicated that a series of TPU/SiAPP/MPCSN composites exhibited strong adhesions with the TPU matrix. Additionally, the thermal and flame retardant performances of TPU composites were markedly improved after the introduction of different proportions of SiAPP to MPCSN. For example, the peak of heat release rate, the total heat release, the peak of smoke production rate, the total smoke release of the TPU composite containing 7.5 wt% SiAPP and 2.5 wt% MPCSN (TPU/SiAPP3/MPCSN1) remarkably decreased by 68.7%, 52.9%, 52.4%, and 49.4%, respectively, besides the highest LOI value (27.5 vol%) and UL-94 V-0 rating, compared with those of pure TPU. The improved flame retardance of the TPU/SiAPP3/MPCSN1 composite was due to the explanations: On one hand, a compact intumescent char effectively protected the TPU matrix from heat and oxygen and retarded the gaseous products permeation into the combustion zone; on the other hand, evolved phosphorus-containing free radicals captured the H• and HO• generated from the TPU material. The synergistic effect of SiAPP and MPCSN resulted in strong flame suppression, accompanied by 10.8% and 37.8% reductions in FIGRA and Av-EHC, respectively. This article offers a facile approach to fabricate highly effective flame-retardant TPU composites.
