Reported herein is a highly active and durable hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) electrocatalyst, which is constructed following a tandem interface strategy and functional in alkaline and even neutral medium (pH ≈ 7). The ternary composite material, consisting of conductive nickel foam (NF) substrate, Ni 3 S 2 -MoS 2 heterostructure, and TiO 2 coating, is synthesized by the hydrothermal method and atomic layer deposition (ALD) technique. Representative results include: (1) versatile characterizations confirm the proposed composite structure and strong electronic interactions among comprised sulfide and oxide species; (2) the material outperforms commercial Pt/C by recording an overpotential of 115 mV and a Tafel slope of 67 mV dec −1 under neutral conditions. A long-term stability in alkaline electrolytes up to 200 h and impressive overall water splitting behavior (1.56 V @ 10 mA cm −2 ) are documented; (3) implementation of ALD oxide tandem layer is crucial to realize the design concept with superior HER performance by modulating a variety of heterointerface and intermediates electronic structure.

The rational design of tumor microenvironment (TME)- multifunctional stimuli-responsive nanocomposites is appealing for effective cancer treatment. However, multidrug resistance remains an obstacle to construct responsive oncotherapy. Herein, a novel MoS 2 /PDA-TPP nanocomposite loaded with chemotherapy drug of doxorubicin (DOX) is designed for TME dual-response and synergistically enhanced anti-tumor therapy based on the tumor-specific mitochondria accumulation ability and photothermal (PTT) therapy. In detail, the designed MoS 2 /PDA-TPP nanoplatform can act as a pH-responsive dissociation to endow fast release of DOX under an acidic TME and simultaneously improve the efficiency of PTT. Moreover, the mechanism shows that MoS 2 /PDA-TPP trigger mitochondrial-dependent apoptosis by producing reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reducing mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP). Most importantly, during PTT procedure, hyperthermia up to 50 °C can effectively induce tumor cell death without causing severe inflammation to adjacent tissues. Tumor targeting double stimulation response of nanocomposites is a novel idea to overcome drug resistance, which will provide a more effective strategy for solving practical problems.

In this study, a low-cost and high-performance MoS 2 /sodium alginate (SA)/Fe (MSF) hydrogel catalyst was prepared. It was found that the MSF hydrogel could efficiently catalyze the degradation of methylene blue (MB) through the Fenton reaction without the addition of Fe 2+ . The reaction was initiated by Fe 2+ which was derived from the cyclic redox reaction between MoS 2 and Fe 3+ and produced large quantities of ·OH to degrade the MB. The effect of MoS 2 concentration, FeCl 3 ·6H 2 O concentration, H 2 O 2 dosage, solution pH, and light on the degradation was systematically studied. The MoS 2 concentration of 0.5 mg/ mL, FeCl 3 ·6H 2 O concentration of 0.25 g/mL, 50 μL H 2 O 2 , and the pH of 4.0 were the optimized parameters. Moreover, it was found that the MB degraded faster under the infrared radiation. The MB removal rate reached as high as 98% within 15 min in the presence of a low concentration of H 2 O 2 and the procedure could be repeated 5 times. The MSF hydrogel provided an effective and simple strategy for the sustainable degradation of organic pollutants in wastewater.

Developing advanced nanocomposite integrating solar-driven thermal energy storage and thermal management functional microwave absorption can facilitate the cutting-edge application of phase change materials (PCMs). To conquer this goal, herein, two-dimensional MoS 2 nanosheets are grown in situ on the surface of one-dimensional CNTs to prepare core-sheath MoS 2 @CNTs for the encapsulation of paraffin wax (PW). Benefiting from the synergistic enhancement photothermal effect of MoS 2 and CNTs, MoS 2 @CNTs is capable of efficiently trapping photons and quickly transporting phonons, thus yielding a high solar-thermal energy conversion and storage efficiency of 94.97%. Meanwhile, PW/MoS 2 @CNTs composite PCMs exhibit a high phase change enthalpy of 101.60 J/g and excellent long-term thermal storage durability after undergoing multiple heating–cooling cycles. More attractively, PW/MoS 2 @CNTs composite PCMs realize thermal management functional microwave absorption in heat-related electronic application scenarios, which is superior to the single microwave absorption of traditional materials. The minimum reflection loss (RL) for PW/MoS 2 @CNTs is −28 dB at 12.91 GHz with a 2.0 mm thickness. This functional integration design provides some insightful references on developing advanced microwave absorbing composite PCMs, holding great potential towards high-efficiency solar energy utilization and thermally managed microwave absorption fields.

In this paper, a MoS2/MXene/N-doped carbon (NC) porous composite microsphere with a wrinkled surface was designed and constructed. Lithium fluoride exfoliation and lithium-ion etching fabricated two types of 2D assembly elements, MXene (Ti3C2Tx) and MoS2 nanosheets. The two nanosheets were self-assembled by an ultrasonic spray technique with high-temperature reduction, and MoS2/MXene microspheres with 3Dwrinkled shapes were obtained. The coating of the surface NC layer was achieved by the carbonization of a polydopamine (PDA) precursor formed by the self-polymerization of dopamine. The amount of PDA coating and raw material ratio significantly affect the microstructure and electromagnetic wave absorption performance. The optimal MXene to MoS2 mass ratio is 5:1, and the optimal coating time and filler amount are 8 h and 40%. MoS2/MXene/NC composite microspheres exhibit excellent absorption performance with low reflection losses (RLmin) of −52.9 dB at 6.4 GHz and high adequate absorption bandwidths of 5.2 GHz. By adjusting the thickness of the absorber, the full coverage of the C–Ku band (4–18 GHz) can be achieved. As a new composite absorber, it has significant potential applications.

A bifunctional cathode with MoS 2 powder and carbon black deposited on carbon felt (MCB@CF) was prepared and first applied as bifunctional cathode to heterogeneous electro-Fenton (EF). This cathode presented higher H 2 O 2 production compared with other cathodes. Fe 0 modified by sulfidation coupled with pre-magnetization (pre-S/Fe 0 ) was used as a catalyst in the EF process. Compared to the conventional EF process, the established pre-S/Fe 0 -EF-MCB@CF process showed higher sulfamethazine (SMT) removal (removal rate constant improved by 3.01 times) and TOC removal (40% in 1 h) within wide pH range (pH 4–10). According to the radical quenching experiment, •OH was proved to be the main oxidation species for SMT degradation and O 2 •- played a marginal role. MoS 2 surface presented Mo 4+ active sites that could promote the conversion of Fe 3+ to Fe 2+ , during which Mo 4+ was oxidized to Mo 6+ . The promoted reduction of Fe 3+ to Fe 2+ enhanced the utilization of H 2 O 2 and thus the generation of ∙OH. The six consecutive runs of pre-S/Fe 0 -EF-MCB@CF process proved the excellent stability and reusability of prepared MCB@CF cathode. Compared with that by Fe 0 -EF-CB@CF process, the removal rates of pesticides, phenols, dyes and drugs by pre-S/Fe 0 -EF-MCB@CF process was enhanced more than two times, demonstrating the potential of this process for wide application. This study provides a green and sustainable approach for the treatment of refractory pollutants by heterogeneous EF process in a wide pH range.

Developing a low-cost and transparent counter electrode (CE) for a self-powered electrochromic device (SP-ECD) can address the requirements of building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPVs). Herein, a new partly covered poly(3,4-(2,2-dimethylpropylenedioxy) thiophene) (PProDOT-Me 2 ) on MoS 2 nanosheets CE is developed for replacing an expensive Pt CE and achieving high-performance SP-ECD. The device consists of the proposed CE, an electrolyte containing Br − /Br 3 − redox pair, and a working electrode made with a dye-sensitized TiO 2 photoanode integrated with PProDOT-Me 2 . ECD changes its color between deep blue and colorless by varying the illuminated light on and off. Measurements reveal that the ECD achieves a transmittance modulation of 46% at 580 nm with cycling stability over 500 cycles (4% contrast attenuation) that are about five times stable than that based on Pt or MoS 2 CE. In addition, the switching speed between colored and bleached states is fast under a light on and off, with a coloration time of 2.1 s and a bleaching time of 1.5 s. These characteristics result from the unique design of CE and can be beneficial in accelerating the electrochromic process and enhancing the self-powered performance for good cycling stability. This study reveals a new approach to prepare good CE for efficient SP-ECD in BIPVs.

The direct electrolysis of abundant near-neutral seawater resources for hydrogen production faces significant challenges due to insufficient catalyst activity and salt toxicity. Herein, we demonstrate a novel dendritic urchin-like MoC/MoS 2 heterojunction in-situ formed on carbon cloth (CC@MoC/MoS 2 -H) through a combination of hydrothermal and high-temperature annealing processes. This unique dendritic urchin-like structure consists of numerous nanorods on carbon cloth, which enhances the catalytic active sites and provides space for efficient bubble release. The resulting CC@MoC/MoS 2 -H exhibits superior catalytic performance, with an overpotential of 91 mV and 136 mV at the current density of 10 mA cm −2 in the 1 M PBS electrolyte and natural seawater, respectively, surpassesing that of most non-noble metal compounds reported previously. Finite element simulations reveal that the urchin-like structure has significantly higher bubble release capacity compared to the randomly stacked structure. Additionally, the urchin-like structure demonstrates substantially greater current density retention under electrolytic conditions designed to simulate salt accumulation, in comparison to the small-size structure. Furthermore, the average H 2 production efficiency of 78,493 μmol h −1 g −1 was evaluated for three consecutive hours using commercial solar panels rated at 2 V on a large-scale electrode assembly from seawater, which is comparable to the present photocatalytic hydrogen production efficiency. This work opens new avenues for the development of catalytic structures compatible with seawater.

An aeration-driven piezocatalytic fuel cell (PzFC) was tested for sulfide removal. • Single-atom Fe-doped MoS 2 piezoanode enhanced the oxidation of sulfide. • The PzFC achieved sulfide removal of 2.53 kg/(m 3 ·d) with 83% selectivity of S 0 /S n 2- . Sulfide (S 2- , HS - , and H 2 S) can be directly oxidized by air, but the reaction kinetics are sluggish, and the resulting sulfate product is stable but of low value. To accelerate sulfide oxidation to recoverable value-added products, we constructed an aeration-driven piezocatalytic fuel cell (PzFC) with single-atom Fe 1 @MoS 2 catalysts, in which mechanical strain was induced by continuous air bubbling. Herein, the sulfide was oxidized and selectively converted to low-toxicity products: about 83% elemental sulfur/polysulfides (S 0 /S n 2- ), with minor soluble sulfate (SO 4 2- ) and thiosulfate (S 2 O 3 2- ). S 0 /S n 2- can be used to enhance biological denitrification in wastewater treatment. Notably, the PzFC achieved 93% sulfide removal (initial concentration: 170 mg/L) within 90 min and exhibited stability over six consecutive cycles. Key operational parameters (temperature, pH, initial sulfide concentration, and aeration rate) were systematically evaluated, achieving a maximum desulfurization capacity of 20.68 g/(m 2 ·h) (i.e., 4.96 kg/(m 3 ·d) at an initial concentration of 470 mg/L). Furthermore, the influences of self-bias and single-atom Fe loading on PzFC performance were systematically clarified, and the underlying catalytic mechanism was proposed. This work establishes a low-carbon, efficient strategy for wastewater desulfurization by integrating single-atom piezocatalysts Fe 1 @MoS 2 and PzFC. TBAB-assisted MoS 2 with expanded interlayer spacing via molecular insertion. • TBAB regulates MoS 2 into open few-layer nanoflower structure. • Enhanced piezo-photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline (97.8%, 60 min). • ·O 2 – identified as dominant reactive species in degradation. • Enhanced charge separation via Mo 5+ /Mo 6+ and N-related states. MoS 2 is a promising piezo-photocatalyst for pollutant degradation, but nanosheet restacking, limited active-site exposure and fast charge recombination restrict its performance. Quaternary ammonium salts can regulate layered MoS 2 through interfacial adsorption and steric effects, yet the role of molecular configuration remains unclear. Here, TMAB, TBAB, DTAB and CTAB were compared to examine cation-size and alkyl-chain effects. The interlayer spacing increased from 6.28 Å to 6.65, 10.16, 10.27 and 10.22 Å, respectively. M−TBAB formed an open few-layer flower-like structure due to strong TBAB-MoS 2 interaction and steric hindrance. High-valence Mo species and N-containing surface components favored interfacial charge transfer. Under light alone, M−TBAB degraded 25.2% of tetracycline within 60 min versus 14.3% for pristine 2H-MoS 2 , with k app = 0.0048 min −1 , 1.71 times that of pristine 2H-MoS 2 . Under coupled light/ultrasound, degradation reached 97.8% with k app = 0.0621 min −1 , 3.09 times that of pristine 2H-MoS 2 . The improved activity mainly arises from the expanded interlayer spacing, stronger piezoelectric response, improved charge separation, and surface electron redistribution. Radical trapping experiments further indicate that ·O 2 – is the dominant reactive species. Distinct from our previous sulfur-vacancy engineering of MoS 2 , this work demonstrates organic molecular configuration as an effective strategy for regulating the layered structure and interfacial properties of MoS 2 toward enhanced piezo-photocatalysis. TBAB-modified MoS 2 exhibits expanded interlayer spacing and enhanced piezo-photocatalytic performance toward efficient tetracycline degradation. GNs were prepared by scCO 2 circulating jet cavitation. • Pristine GN was used to construct tubular α-Al 2 O 3 membranes. • MoS 2 hybridization widens and stabilizes graphene laminar channels. • The G 8 M 2 membrane exhibits outstanding dye/NaCl separation performance. Pristine graphene nanosheets provide a low-functional-group scaffold for laminar nanofiltration membranes, but compact, poorly wetted pathways limit water transport. Here, pristine graphene nanosheets were produced by a circulating supercritical CO 2 (scCO 2 ) jet-cavitation process and deposited on porous α-Al 2 O 3 tubular supports. MoS 2 nanosheets were incorporated as hydrophilic, locally distributed two-dimensional channel-regulating components, forming heterogeneous GN/MoS 2 lamellar pathways that increased water permeance while maintaining dye selectivity. A PEI@GA-crosslinked surface layer supplied positive charge. The optimized G 8 M 2 membrane rejected more than 99% of CBB, CR, and BY, with water permeances of 110.24–131.04 L·m −2 ·h −1 ·bar −1 . In dye/NaCl feeds, it achieved a permeance of 139.16 L·m −2 ·h −1 ·bar −1 and separation factor of 866.87 for CR/NaCl, with a flux recovery ratio above 97% during the tested CR fouling cycles. During the 120 h CR/NaCl separation stability test with periodic hydraulic rinsing every 12 h, the membrane delivered an average permeance of 124.46 L·m −2 ·h −1 ·bar −1 and an average CR rejection of 99.60%, while maintaining low NaCl rejection. This work integrates nonoxidative graphene exfoliation, tubular membrane construction, and heterogeneous two-dimensional channel regulation for dye/salt fractionation.
