Inkjet-printed quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QLEDs) are considered to be ideal candidates for use in full-color displays. However, preparation of eco-friendly blue InP QLEDs using inkjet printing techniques remains rather challenging due to the inferior optical properties of QDs. Here, we present the first efficient method for generating inkjet-printed QLEDs with high color purity using blue InP/ZnS/ZnS QDs as the emitting layer. A two-step heat-up and thick shell strategy was employed for the preparation of blue InP/ZnS/ZnS QDs with a photoluminescence (PL) peak at 465 nm, full width at half-maximum of 38 nm, and PL quantum yield (QY) of ∼ 96 %, which are the records for blue InP QDs. We found that the use of a zinc iodide precursor and anhydrous oxygen reaction environment is critical to determining InP core size, and the size distribution of InP cores can be improved by separating formation of InP magic size clusters and cores via a heat-up step at low temperature. We used two kind of zinc precursors to facilitate shell growth, and the engineered shell thickness suppresses energy transfer, enabling InP/ZnS/ZnS QDs film with high PLQYs and contributing to efficient inkjet printing of QLEDs. These results can facilitate the development of blue InP QLEDs for large-area electroluminescent full-color displays.

As a representative of III–V semiconductor materials, InP/ZnS quantum dots are regarded as the star material in the field of light-emitting devices due to their low toxicity and suitable luminescence range. However, there are still some major problems in the preparation process of InP/ZnS QDs, such as phosphine precursors are expensive and difficult to preserve, the nucleation time of short wavelength InP/ZnS QDs is too short and the size distribution is too large. In this paper, we'll replace the traditional tris(trimethylsilyl)phosphine with tris(diethylamino)phosphine as a cheaper phosphine precursor and propose a novel and convenient method for adjusting the luminescence wavelength of InP/ZnS QDs. Different from the traditional method to adjust the emission wavelength by changing the nucleation time, the emission wavelength of InP/ZnS QDs was regulated by changing the number of initially formed cores. Zeolites provide a nucleation site for the InP cores. InP/ZnS QDs that emit between 522 nm and 589 nm were obtained. Moreover, the obtained InP/ZnS QDs have good monochromaticity, and the minimum half-width (half-full width) is up to 48 nm. This method provides a new way to adjust the size of quantum dots with good performance.

Colloidal indium phosphide (InP) quantum dots (QDs) have attracted worldwide attention due to their intrinsic environmental friendliness and excellent optical properties. The incorporation of metal ions has been a common way to modify the properties of InP QDs and some metal ions have been confirmed to be effective in preparation of blue-emitting InP QDs. Herein, the interfacial anchoring effect of rare earth metal ions neodymium(III) (Nd 3+ ) is unveiled for the first time by analyzing the alteration of spectra, size, and composition of QDs after Nd doping. It is evidenced that Nd substitutes for In of InP during the process of nucleation. More crucially, Nd is anchored at the surface of InP and inhibits their further growth at the high temperature of shelling. This ensures that the size of InP QDs and the absorption peak position are almost maintained during shell growth. It is demonstrated that the emitting wavelength of InP/ZnS core/shell QDs is systematically tunable through varying Nd amounts. Finally, the optimized InP/ZnS QDs exhibiting an emission peak of 470 nm with a photoluminescence quantum yield of 44%, and a full width at half-maximum of 46 nm are prepared.

Single-phased and dual-emissive nanocrystals with broad emission are attractive fluorescent materials for optoelectronic devices due to their unique properties. Until now, the effect of different metallic cations and inorganic anions on III–V group quantum dots (QDs) concerning luminescence features and crystalline growth has been less explored. In this work, dual-emissive InP/ZnS QDs single-doped with transition-metal compounds (Cu2+, Ag+, or Mn2+) are synthesized to compare their optical and morphological properties. The corresponding doping concentrations to realize dual emission with comparative intensity for Cu, Ag, and Mn are 0.8, 6, and 80%, which vary greatly and might be attributed to different precursor reactivities. As for the morphological and internal structures, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images indicate that transition-metal ions have no obvious effect on the morphological properties and a higher concentration of chloride anions binding with an In-rich interface could conduce to a homogeneous distribution and triangular growth through the comparison of different metal chlorides as precursors. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results further demonstrate that the high-resolution In 3d spectrum of Mn-doped InP/ZnS QDs with MnCl2 is mainly dominated by In–P bonds, indicating fewer intermediate chemical states. These results concerning well-defined InP/ZnS QDs could promote more diverse insight into surface chemistry and help to better understand the growth mechanism, thus making it possible to regulate InP/ZnS QDs into desired formats for different practical applications like white light-emitting diodes (LEDs).

Indium phosphide (InP) quantum dots (QDs), as an environmentally benign semiconductor material, exhibit significant potential in optoelectronic devices. The incorporation of metal ions is a widely adopted strategy to modulate the optical properties of InP QDs, thereby expanding their application scope. In this study, rapid thermochromic response was achieved in InP/ZnS QDs through dual cation (Nd 3+ &Mn 2+ ) modification. The introduction of Mn 2+ endowed the QDs with dual emission characteristics, while Nd 3+ stabilized the intrinsic emission at the pure blue wavelength of 470 nm by suppressing QD growth via interface anchoring. Investigations revealed that temperature elevation activated the carrier re-excitation process, leading to enhanced intrinsic emission and enabling dynamic fluorescence color switching from orange-yellow to blue. Leveraging this property, a ratiometric fluorescence thermometer with a detection range of 293–533 K and a response time of <5 s was developed. Furthermore, variable-power excitation experiments elucidated the saturation behavior of Mn 2+ impurity emission, corroborating the competitive mechanism between intrinsic and impurity emissions. This work provides novel insights into the multifunctional fluorescence modulation of cadmium-free QDs, with significant implications for smart sensing and eco-friendly display technologies.

Although ligand fishing has been shown to be an efficient technique for the identification of bioactive components from complex mixtures such as natural products , it cannot be applied to biomedical image processing. Herein, a specific fluorescent ligand fishing combined with in situ imaging approach is presented for the identification of heat shock protein 90 (Hsp 90) inhibitors from complex matrixes, Curcuma longa L. , using N-terminus immobilized Hsp 90α functionalized InP/ZnS quantum dots embedded mesoporous nanoparticles ( i.e. Hsp 90α (NT)-FQDNs) as extraction sorbents and fluorescent tracer. The fished ligands were identified by liquid chromatography time-of-flight/mass spectrometry (LC-TOF/MS) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Moreover, in situ imaging by confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) was applied for evaluating the effect of fished-ligands on bioactivity-induced apoptosis morphologically in HeLa cells. MTT assay verified the bioactivity of the ligands and molecular docking results further provided convincing information to verify the feasible binding mode between ligands and protein. Twelve ligands as potential Hsp 90 inhibitors were ultimately fished and identified from Curcuma longa L. crude extracts. The proposed approach based on Hsp 90α functionalized nanocomposites is superior in the combination of highly specific screening efficiency and concurrent visual in situ imaging, which could have great promise for the development of other plant-derived Hsp 90 inhibitors, and providing a rapid and reliable platform for discovering biologically active molecules in natural products.

InP quantum dots (QDs) are promising down-conversion phosphors for white light LEDs. However, the mainstream InP QDs synthesis uses expensive phosphorus source. Here, economic, in situ-generated PH3is used to synthesize InP QDs and a two-step coating of ZnS shells is developed to prepare highly luminescent InP/ZnS/ZnS QDs. The QDs show a photoluminescence quantum yield as high as 78.5%. The emission can be tuned by adjusting the halide precursor and yellow emissive InP/ZnS/ZnS QDs are prepared by judiciously controlling the synthetic conditions. The yellow QDs show suppressed thermal quenching and retain >90% room temperature PL intensity at 150 °C for the growth solution. Additionally, the PL spectrum matches with the eye sensitivity function, resulting in efficient InP QD white light LEDs.Keywords:InP;quantum dots;core/shell;InP/ZnS;thermal quenching

Indium phosphide (InP) Quantum dots (QDs) are becoming one of the most favorable alternatives of cadmium-based QDs in view of their heavy metal-free and tunable luminescence. However, the photoluminescence performances of InP QDs still remain to be improved especially for the aminophosphine based synthesis method. In this work, we present a one-pot synthesis route of InP/ZnS red QDs based on tris(dimethylamino)phosphine (DMP) phosphorus precursor by using ZnF 2 to generate HF and F ions in situ for the elimination of surface oxidative layer of InP cores and the passivation of indium dangling bonds. The synthesis conditions in terms of ZnF 2 concentration, reaction temperature and growth time, were further investigated in order to obtain an optimization of fluorescence properties of InP QDs. It is found that the PL QY of both InP and InP/ZnS QDs are significantly improved by the ZnF 2 additive. The PL QY of ∼16.4%, FWHM of 50 nm for pristine InP QDs and PL QY of ∼73%, emission peak of 628 nm, FWHM of 55 nm for ZnS shelled InP QDs can be obtained when the ratio of ZnF 2 to ZnCl 2 , reaction temperature and growth time are 1:1, 200 °C and 40 min, respectively. Compared with the InP/ZnS QDs synthesized without ZnF2 treatment (55% PL QY, 611 nm emission peak, 62 nm FWHM), the PL QY is increased by 32.7%.

Cadmium-free InP quantum dots (QDs) exhibit many unique optical properties , and show great promise as light emitting materials. In this work, a series of high-efficient and color-tunable transition metal ions (Cu, Mn) single- and co-doped InP/ZnS QDs with the average size of 3.2–3.7 nm, were firstly prepared via a nucleation-doping method in an organic synthetic route. These three kinds of doped InP/ZnS QDs all exhibit dual emission with one peak position around green region owing to the intrinsic state and the other peak position around orange-red region resulted from dopant emission, the relative intensity of which can be effectively tuned by varying Cu or Mn dopant concentration. The dopant emission of Cu doped InP/ZnS QDs from 572 to 696 nm can be realized via increasing Cu dopant concertration from 0.25% to 10%, while the peak position of dopant emission in Mn doped InP/ZnS QDs system remains unaltered as Mn dopant concentration increasing. Besides, the interaction mechanism of Cu and Mn dopant in co-doped InP/ZnS QDs system was investigated with steady-state and time-resolved PL spectroscopy measurements. The results reveal that the dopant emission is dominated by Cu doping rather than Mn doping. These unique results in doped InP/ZnS QDs would help to understand the fundamental aspects of doping, and the dual-emissive and color-tunable optical properties of single-phase doped InP/ZnS QDs will endow them with great promise as color-converting materials for use in solid-state lighting.

Accurate identification of multiple teas based on the difference in their contents and species of metal ions is vital in food inspection and public health. However, achieving accurate sensing from one material with various transduction signals and excellent anti-interference remains a challenge. Herein, a four-channel sensing platform was constructed by combining with four water-soluble InP/ZnS QDs with independent emission. The fluorescence intensities of the four water-soluble InP/ZnS QDs change in different degrees owing to the synergistic coordinative effect between metal ions and ligands. Interestingly, the multi-channel sensing platform allows the qualitative performance of metal ions with excellent anti-interference, high sensitivity, and high accuracy in binary and ternary mixtures. Moreover, the multi-channel fluorescent array exhibited a universality-powerful capability for identifying five teas with satisfactory results. The universal application for detecting Cr 6+ , Hg 2+ , and Cu 2+ in various tea drinks was demonstrated with excellent recovery, indicating a promising potential application in food safety.

In this letter, dual-emissive and color-tunable Mn-doped InP/ZnS quantum dots (Mn:InP/ZnS QDs) with the absolute photoluminescence quantum yield (PL QY) up to 78% were successfully synthesized via a growth-doping method. The dual emission of Mn:InP/ZnS QDs is composed of intrinsic emission and Mn-doped emission, which can be tuned by different Mn/In ratios. With the increase of Mn dopant concentration, the intrinsic emission shows a red shift from 485 to 524 nm. The new class of dual-emissive QDs provides potential for future application in white LED.

Arginine kinase (AK) is one of the most important allergens in shrimp products. Herein, a novel immunoassay for quantitation of AK was developed using the antibody modified gold nanoparticle (AuNP) and quantum dot (QD). When the first antibody modified AuNP (AuNP-Ab1) was bridged by AK with the secondary antibody modified QD (QD-Ab2), fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) would occur between the AuNP and QD, which led to a decrease in fluorescent signals. The decrease in fluorescence intensity was found to correlate linearly with the log of AK concentration in the range of 1.0 × 10 -6 -1.0 × 10 -3 mg/mL (R 2 = 0.9909) and the detection limit was 0.11 ng/mL. The immunoassay was further proved to have encouraging specificity, precision and accuracy. Compared with existing methods, this study provided a promising approach to develop a highly sensitive and selective detection method for AK in shrimp related food samples.
