Sb-doped SnO2(SnO2-Sb) coatings show superiority in degrading toxic and refractory organic pollutants. SnO2-Sb coatings can be prepared by oxidizing electrodeposited Sn-Sb coatings through an annealing process. The properties and structure of SnO2-Sb coatings can be tailored by adjusting the preparation parameters. This study examines the effects of crucial preparation parameters on the performance of SnO2-Sb coatings, with the aim of enhancing their properties.Determining the coatings’ cross-sectional and surface characteristics was accomplished using various characterization techniques. A thorough investigation of the prepared samples’ phase and element components was also carried out. Based on the findings, the surface roughness of the prepared Sn-Sb precoating changed with increasing current density, yet the primary surface features of the SnO2-Sb coatings were hardly altered by the annealing process. Without lowering the coating thickness, the appropriate current density of 30 mA/cm2produced a rough and active coating surface. Our study’s proper annealing temperature of 600 °C transformed Sn-Sb precoating into SnO2-Sb coating and achieved excellent coating quality. While changes in the Sb content affected the morphology of the prepared SnO2-Sb coatings, the mixed oxide coatings’ cassiterite SnO2phase was unaffected. These results may provide insights into the optimized use of SnO2-Sb coatings in various applications.Keywords:SnO2-Sb;electrodeposition;structures

Chemical oxygen demand (COD) indicates the relative content of organics in water. The electrochemical measurement of COD is a promising ecofriendly alternative method for rapidly, automatically, and highly accurately determining the content of organics in water. However, the key anodes must possess high catalytic efficiency and long-term stability, be easy to prepare, and be free of heavy metal leaching. Therefore, in this study, a SnO2–Sb-based porous anode was prepared using simple coating and calcination. Because of its porous, conductive, and robust Ti felt/Pt (TF/Pt) substrate, the anode (TF/Pt/SnO2–Sb) possessed stable current responses that were highly correlated (R2 = 0.999) with COD measurements in the range of 20–6000 mg L–1. The detection limit was 3.03 mg L–1 (at a signal-to-noise ratio of 3), and the relative standard deviation was within 3.2% (n = 10), which is superior to those of the standard dichromate detection method. The further assembly of a flow-through system with the proposed anode exhibited a wider linear range of up to 8000 mg L–1 at a lower sample injection volume of 50 μL. These results suggest the application potential of the electrochemical method with the porous TF/Pt/SnO2–Sb anode as a reliable alternative for sustainable COD determination.

A novel SnO2-Sb nanorods anode with Ti sheet as substrate (Ti/SnO2-Sb-NRs) was prepared through hydrothermal process. The Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and the contact angle meter were used to characterize the physicochemical properties of the anodes. Additionally, the electrochemical properties and the stability were further studied by the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), cyclic voltammetry (CV), chronoamperometry (CA) measurements and accelerated life test, respectively. These results indicated that Ti/SnO2-Sb-NRs anode possessed SnO2-Sb-NRs which were about 70 nm in width, as well as a better wettability, a lower charge transfer resistance, a larger current at constant potential and a longer lifetime than the conventional Ti/SnO2-Sb anode prepared by pulse electro-deposition. And the existence of direct oxidation on Ti/SnO2-Sb-NRs anode was confirmed. Electrochemical degradation of Acid Red 73 (AR 73) was investigated to study the electro-catalytic oxidation performance of the anodes. And the results showed that SnO2-Sb-NRs remarkably improved the degradation of AR 73, the chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal efficiency and the adsorption capacity on Ti/SnO2-Sb-NRs anode, which was probably due to the synergetic effects of SnO2-Sb-NRs.

In this paper, Ti/SnO2-Sb/Ce-PbO2 anode is electrodeposited from MSA bath, and the effect of Ce3+ concentration in bath on the phase composition and morphology of lead dioxide electrode is elucidated. It is found that with the addition of 2 mM Ce3+ ion to the bath the Ce-PbO2 anode exhibits highest stability in 0.5 M H2SO4, and cerium exists as Ce (IV) in the PbO2 film. The electrocatalytic activity of lead dioxide anode for phenol removal is slightly enhanced by the inclusion of Ce. The significant improvement in electrocatalytic activity can be achieved by the addition of small amount of Bi3+ ion to the bath containing Ce3+ ion. In this study, electrocatalytic activities of various anodes follow the order: Ce,Bi-PbO2 > Ce-PbO2 > undoped PbO2 > Bi-PbO2.

A Sb-doped SnO 2 anode modified with Ni and B was fabricated by the sol–gel method. The effect of major operation parameters of electrode preparation, such as Ni content, B content, and calcination temperature, on the mineralization degree of phenol was investigated. Response surface methodology was used to optimize the experimental conditions and evaluate the association between various operation parameters. The morphology, crystal structure, and electrocatalytic performance of the prepared SnO 2 –Sb–Ni–B anodes were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), and cyclic voltammetry (CV). The optimized sol–gel preparation ratio of citric acid, ethylene glycol, tin tetrachloride, antimony trichloride, nickel chloride, and boric acid was 650:200:100:6.5:0.5:2, and the calcination temperature of the electrode was 550 °C. The SnO 2 –Sb–Ni–B anode has the highest oxygen evolution potential of 1.63 V (vs. Hg 2 /Hg 2 SO 4 ). The removal degree of phenol reached 58% within 2 h on the SnO 2 –Sb–Ni–B anode. The accelerated lifetime of the selected SnO 2 –Ni–B anode was 720 min, which was carried out in a 3-mol/L sulfuric acid solution with a current density of 500 mA/cm 2 .

The short service life and low catalytic activity of electrodes are the major bottlenecks limiting the practical applications of current electrocatalytic oxidation technology in wastewater treatment. In this study, a novel Ti/SnO 2 -Sb-Nd-Pt electrode loading TiO 2 nanotube (TiO 2 -NTs) array was proposed and prepared. The optimized TiO 2 nanotube (TiO 2 -NTs) arrays provided abundant anchoring sites for SnO 2 -Sb-Nd-Pt active coating and improved the bonding strength between the Ti matrix and the SnO 2 -Sb-Nd-Pt active coating as a mediator, as a result, higher electrocatalytic performance and stability. The nitrobenzene (NB) removal and service life were significantly higher in Ti/TiO 2 -NTs/SnO 2 -Sb-Nd-Pt (91.08 % and 4381.9 days) when compared to Ti/SnO 2 -Sb-Nd-Pt (80.61 % and 1151.2 days). In addition, the outstanding electrocatalytic performance of Ti/TiO 2 -NTs/SnO 2 -Sb-Nd-Pt with an oxygen evolution potential of 2.03 V and total voltametric charge of 5.88 mC cm −2 makes it a promising candidate for future industrial applications. These findings will lay a solid foundation for broadening the applications of well-defined TiO 2 -NTs arrays prepared via the two-step anodization.

Ammonia pollution control has gained increasing attention as a result of the existential threat to the environment. The electrochemical advanced oxidation process has demonstrated to be an attractive and environmentally benign platform for aqueous ammonia removal because it only requires electricity and water as a clean “reagent”. Herein, we developed a porous SnO 2 –Sb filter toward high-efficient ammonia conversion. Despite the introduction of enhanced convection, chlorine-mediated ammonia oxidation dominated the reaction mechanism of the electrified SnO 2 –Sb filter at circumneutral pH. At an extremely short hydraulic contact time (1.0–5.1 min), ammonia was primarily oxidized to N 2 with no chloramines detected. Matrix effect assays showed that the chloride–to–ammonia ratio was vital to determine the removal rate and product selectivity. A pH buffer, HCO 3 − , might prompt ammonia removal whilst inhibiting chlorate formation. In contrast, the ammonia removal performance of the SnO 2 –Sb filter deteriorated in the presence of dissolved organic matter ( e.g. , humic acid). The matrix effects significantly influenced the process efficiency to treat municipal sewage and lake water. The results of this study can advance our understanding of electrochemical ammonia oxidation and provide insight into the effective implementation and optimization of the flow-through process.

Abstract The sol-gel approach was utilized to make a copper-doped Ti/SnO 2 -Sb anode for electrochemical oxidation of norfloxacin (NOR). Sycanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), linear scan voltammograms (LSV), and cyclic voltammetry (CV) were used to examine the anode’s surface morphology and electrochemical characteristics. The results show that the doped metal makes the anode coating denser and smoother, which is more conducive to resistance to electrochemical corrosion. The electrochemical degradation of NOR utilizing the constructed anode was examined in relation to reaction circumstances such as current density, pH value, and initial NOR concentration. Within the selected range of reaction conditions, the removal rate of NOR using Ti/SnO 2 –Sb–Cu electrode was significantly higher than that of blank electrode. The following were the shifting trends: NOR removal efficiencies grew with applied current density and initial NOR concentration, and reduced with increasing pH value. Water samples with different reaction times were taken and tested by UV-Vis spectrum. As can be seen from the results, with the progress of the reaction, the intensity of the characteristic peak decreased, indicating that NOR is degraded gradually. The electrochemical degradation pathways of NOR were studied using liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (LC-MS). Six intermediates were detected and a possible reaction pathway for the degradation of NOR by electrochemical oxidation was proposed.

A Ti/SnO2–Sb–Cu–Zn electrode was prepared for the electrocatalytic oxidation of Acid Red 18 (AR18). The addition of Zn to the coating results in smaller surface cracks and greater roughness. When Cu and Zn coexist, high-index crystal planes are generated on smaller-sized grains formed on the coating surface, which allows the coating surface to adsorb oxygen. Sb5+ and the adjacent Cu2+–Zn2+ on the surface of the Cu–Zn co-doped coating are the advantageous active sites for adsorbed oxygen. The electrode exhibits a larger electrochemically active surface area and smaller electrochemical reaction resistance. The appearance of high-index crystal planes is beneficial to improve the electrocatalytic activity of the electrode, although the oxygen evolution potential of the electrode is not greatly improved. Cu–Zn co-doping produces synergistic mineralisation and enhances the ability to degrade AR18, and ˙OH is the main active species. During the thermal decomposition of the coating, Zn induces Cu to form more active sites on the high-index crystal planes of SnO2, a phenomenon that may be responsible for the synergistic production of more reactive oxygen species on the electrode surface.

Electrochemical degradation of antiviral drug abacavir was investigated by using a penetration flux porous Ti/SnO 2 –Sb anode prepared by sol-gel method. The effects of applied current density, initial pH, and inorganic anions on the degradation kinetics were systematically studied. Degradation efficiency more than 97% was performed in only 10 min at a current density of 0.2 mA cm −2 . The corresponding degradation rate constant and the lowest electrical energy per order were calculated to be 0.36 min −1 and 6.5 mWh L −1 , respectively. Extending the reaction duration to 5 h, 53.3% of TOC removal was observed. The results indicated that effective degradation of abacavir appeared in the penetration flux porous Ti/SnO 2 –Sb anode with a very low energy consumption. Furthermore, the electrochemical intermediate products and the reaction site during abacavir degradation were detected and recognized. The quantitative structure-activity relationship model revealed that the potential risks of abacavir to the aquatic organism, such as fish, greatly decreased after flowing through the penetration flux porous Ti/SnO 2 –Sb anode.

Ti/SnO 2 -Sb electrodes possess high catalytic activity and efficiently degrade nitrobenzene (NB); however, their low service life limits their wide application. In this study, we used one-step hydrothermal synthesis to successfully prepare Pt-Nd co-doped Ti/SnO 2 -Sb nanosphere electrodes. Scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were applied to characterize the surface morphology, microstructure, and chemical composition of the electrodes, respectively. The electrochemical activity and stability of the electrodes were characterized via linear sweep and cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and an accelerated service life test; their performance for NB degradation was also studied. An appropriate amount of Pt-Nd co-doping refined the average grain size of SnO 2 and formed a uniform and compact coating on the electrode surface. The oxygen evolution potential, total voltammetric charge, and electron transfer resistance of the Ti/SnO 2 -Sb-Nd-Pt electrodes were 1.88 V, 3.77 mC/cm 2 , and 11.50 Ω, respectively. Hydroxy radical was the main active radical species during the electrolytic degradation of nitrobenzene with Ti/SnO 2 -Sb-Nd-Pt. After Pt-Nd co-doping, the accelerated service life of the electrodes was extended from 8.0 min to 78.2 h (500 mA/cm 2 ); although the NB degradation rate decreased from 94.1 to 80.6%, the total amount of theoretical catalytic degradation of NB in the effective working time increased from 17.4 to 8754.1 mg/cm 2 . These findings reveal good application potential for the electrodes and provide a reference for developing efficient and stable electrode materials.

Ozone water is widely used in disinfection area and wastewater treatment due to its strong oxidation. Recent studies have found that Ti/SnO 2 -Sb-Ni (NATO) anode has higher O 3 generation efficiency due to its higher oxygen evolution potential. In this paper, TiO 2 nanotubes (TiO 2 -NTs) were prepared by anodic oxidation method as the basic substrate material for the Ti/SnO 2 -Sb-Ni electrode, and SnO 2 -Sb-Bi was introduced as the intermediate layer to investigate the electro-synthesis of ozonated water. Studies show that the modification of the TiO 2 -NTs substrate provides a larger specific surface area for the reaction and accelerates the transfer of electrons from the oxide layer to the substrate. The introduction of the SnO 2 -Sb-Bi intermediate layer effectively delays the electrode deactivation and also enhances the electron transport. When the Ti/TiO 2 NTs/SnO 2 -Sb-Bi/NATO electrode was used and electrolyzed for 15 min, the ozone water concentration reached 13.15 mg L −1 , about twice as much as the unmodified electrode. The effects of current density and the coating numbers of active layers on the electrosynthesis of the ozonated water were also investigated. Finally, the application of ozonated water in the decolorization of organic dye wastewater was investigated based on its strong oxidation property, the degradation rate of 40 ppm methylene blue reached 94.5 % and the COD removal rate reached 72.9 % in 30 min. In addition, the cell voltage remained constant during decoloration, indicating the good stability of the electrode. This study also opens a door to the rapid electrochemically decoloration of wastewater and sterilization area by using electrochemically obtainable ozone water.
