Available phosphorus refers to the fraction of phosphorus in soil that is readily absorbable by plants, encompassing all water-soluble phosphorus, along with portions of adsorbed and organic phosphorus. It constitutes one of the primary limiting factors for plant growth in soil. The alkali-soluble and adsorbed phosphorus are extracted using the dilute alkali extraction method. During detection, phosphate ions form a phosphomolybdenum blue complex which exhibits a characteristic absorption peak at 660 nm. The phosphorus content is subsequently calculated by measuring the absorbance at this wavelength (660 nm).
