Rhodamine B, also known as Rose Bengal B, Basic Rhodamine, or Pollen Pink, is a synthetic basic fluorescent dye with a bright pink-red color. Its aqueous solution exhibits intense fluorescence and is widely used in laboratories as a fluorescent stain for cells, as well as in the production of colored glass and specialty fireworks. It was once used as a food colorant; however, due to animal studies showing that it may induce subcutaneous sarcomas, it is now considered a potential carcinogen and its use in food coloring is prohibited.
