Manganese Peroxidase (EC 1.11.1.13) is a heme-containing peroxidase primarily found in Basidiomycetes. As part of the lignin-degrading enzyme system, it efficiently degrades lignin as well as recalcitrant compounds in wastewater and soil, such as chlorinated compounds, azides, DTT, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).
Assay Principle: In the presence of Mn²⁺, Manganese Peroxidase oxidizes guaiacol to tetra-guaiacol, which exhibits a characteristic absorption peak at 465 nm.
