Total reducing power is a comprehensive indicator used to evaluate the content of reducing substances in a sample, primarily reflecting its antioxidant capacity or reducing potential. By quantifying the total amount of electron-donating substances in a sample, this parameter provides critical data for applications in environmental monitoring, food industry, and biochemical research. In this assay, the sample reduces potassium ferricyanide to potassium ferrocyanide, which subsequently reacts with ferric chloride to form Prussian blue. The total reducing power of the sample is then determined by measuring the absorbance of Prussian blue at 700 nm.
