UDPG pyrophosphorylase is a key enzyme in the process of glycogen synthesis in organisms. It catalyzes the activation of glucose prior to glycogen synthesis, synthesizing UDP-glucose (UDPG) from glucose-1-phosphate and UTP.
Determination Principle: UGP reversibly catalyzes the reaction to produce glucose-1-phosphate, which, under the action of phosphoglucomutase and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, converts NADP⁺ to NADPH. The rate of increase in absorbance at 340 nm reflects UGP activity.
