Birefringent crystals are pivotal for modern optical modulation technologies, yet developing high-performance birefringent materials with large birefringence (Δ n ), wide bandgaps, and scalable synthesis remains a significant challenge. Different from the traditional planar [MQ 3 ] and distorted [MQ n ] (n ≥ 4) polyhedral units, a “linear-group” design strategy is proposed, targeting heavy-metal halides with [HgX 2 ] (X = halides) coordination modes to exploit their inherent polarizability anisotropy. Through systematic experimental investigations in the ternary A-Hg-X (A = Rb, Cs; X = Br, I) system, six novel Hg-based halides were synthesized. Notably, RbHg 5 Br 11 with linear [HgBr 2 ] units demonstrates excellent optical properties, including a wide bandgap (3.73 eV) and large Δ n ( cal. ) (0.35@546 nm). Importantly, the compound displays a good crystal growth habit, and the high-quality RbHg 5 Br 11 single crystal can be grown by the simple solution method. Theoretical calculations reveal that the strong optical anisotropy arises from the aligned [HgBr 2 ] linear units. The results demonstrate that RbHg 5 Br 11 is a promising birefringent material and give some new insights for designing high-performance optical materials based on the linear units with high polarizability anisotropy.

The unique combination of strong excitonic properties and environmental stability in 0D copper halide crystals motivates the development of scalable ambient fabrication routes for high-quality emitters. Here, we report a low-temperature solvent vapor-assisted crystallization strategy to grow millimeter-sized Cs 3 Cu 2 I 5 crystals. Rb + doping effectively passivates surface defects, markedly enhancing moisture and ambient stability, with the photoluminescence intensity remaining nearly unchanged after 60 days in air. Notably, the 10% Rb + -doped crystals achieve a high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 98.42%, demonstrating a pronounced emission enhancement. Ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) simulations reveal that both pristine and 10% Rb + -doped structures reside in a similar energy window (−108 to −110 eV), while the doped system exhibits a more confined trajectory, suggesting a flattened energy landscape and suppressed defect formation. Doped lattice relaxations induce slight, direction-dependent bond contraction, improving coordination integrity without major distortion, consistent with material stability and device reliability. By integrating blue-emitting Cs 3 Cu 2 I 5 :10% Rb + with green Cs 3 Cu 2 Cl 5 and red CaAlSiN 3 :Eu 2+ , we fabricate high-performance white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) achieving CRI of 95.36, CIE chromaticity coordinates of (0.30, 0.34), and outstanding luminance of 17734.5 cd/m 2 . These findings establish a versatile ambient pathway for defect-engineered Cs 3 Cu 2 X 5 (X = I, Cl) emitters, advancing their prospects for next-generation solid-state lighting technologies.

Cs-rich multiple-cation pure-iodide wide-bandgap perovskite
materials
with excellent photostability are promising candidates for stable
tandem solar cells. However, these Cs-rich perovskites often suffer
from vertical cation inhomogeneity, which compromises device performance
and operational stability. Herein, we report that incorporating rubidium
(Rb) accelerated the phase transition and promoted better crystallization
of the CsDMAMAFA perovskite, thereby ensuring a more uniform vertical
distribution of Cs. In addition, Rb + incorporation relieved
lattice strain, reduced iodide-vacancy defects, and optimized the
interfacial energy levels. As a result, the Rb-doped pure-iodide wide-bandgap
perovskite solar cells achieved an efficiency of 21.62% with a bandgap
of 1.67 eV, which can be further increased to 22.51% via an additional
1,3-diaminopropane dihydroiodide (PDAI 2 ) surface treatment.
The Rb-doped devices also exhibited enhanced photostability, maintaining
88% of the initial efficiency after 400 h under ISOS-L-1 conditions
(ambient air, 23 ± 2 ° C), even without encapsulation. This
work provides a simple and effective route to efficient and stable
pure-iodide wide-bandgap perovskite solar cells.

All-inorganic lead halide perovskite (CsPbX 3 , X = Cl, Br, or I) quantum dots (QDs) glasses have attracted considerable attention due to their excellent stability. However, realizing pure-blue emission CsPbX 3 (X = Br, Cl) QDs glasses with high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) remains a challenge. This study employs RbCl as a dual-functional dopant to regulate the photoluminescence (PL) wavelength and promote the crystallization of CsPbBr 2 Cl 1 QDs embedded in a glass matrix. During thermal treatment, Cl − ions separated from the glass network enhance CsPbBr 2 Cl 1 QD crystallization by increasing the internal Cl/Br ratio and passivating Cl vacancy defects. Simultaneously, high-field-strength Rb + ions partially enter Cs + sites, further promoting crystallization and suppressing Cl vacancies. The synergistic effect of Cl − and Rb + ions induces PL wavelength from 495 nm to 473 nm, while the PLQY increases from 17% to 25%. Among the RbCl-doped samples, the LED based on 4.5 mol% RbCl exhibits the widest color gamut, covering 79.7% of the Rec. 2020 standard. This study introduces a bifunctional dopant strategy to fabricate high-performance, pure-blue-emitting CsPbBr x Cl 3-x QDs glasses. The developed material shows great potential for advanced applications in LED lighting, backlight displays, information storage, and optical anti-counterfeiting.

Dopant-free poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) has attracted increasing interest as a stable and solution-processable hole-transporting layer (HTL) for perovskite solar cells (PSCs), yet its relatively weak interfacial contact and limited hole-extraction capability remain major constraints on device efficiency. Here, we demonstrate an effective interfacial engineering strategy using two π-conjugated molecules, triphenylamine (TPA) and 4,4′,4″-tricarboxytriphenylamine (TCTA), to simultaneously regulate the perovskite/P3HT interface and suppress interfacial defects. The benzene-ring frameworks of TPA and TCTA enable strong π–π stacking interactions with the thiophene units of P3HT, improving molecular ordering and facilitating more efficient hole transport. Meanwhile, the carboxyl groups in TCTA provide robust coordination with undercoordinated Pb2+, leading to superior defect passivation and more favorable energy-level alignment at the interface. As a result, TCTA-treated devices exhibit significantly enhanced charge extraction, reduced nonradiative recombination, and improved operational stability. Benefiting from these synergistic effects, the power conversion efficiency of dopant-free P3HT-based PSCs is boosted from 12.66% to 17.17% and 19.68% for TPA- and TCTA-modified devices, accompanied by markedly improved moisture stability and long-term durability. This work provides a promising molecular design principle for constructing high-performance and stable dopant-free P3HT-HTL–based PSCs.

Ongoing research on perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) spanning diverse areas such as crystallography and biology represents a rapidly expanding frontier in nanotechnology, yet is still limited by the poor water stability and inadequate biocompatibility. Herein, this study reports an ultra-simplified, eco-friendly, cost-effective, and industrial-grade fully aqua-mediated ripening (FAMR) technique for aqueous-PQDs (APQDs) with tunable spectra, achieved by directly stirring the raw precursors with zwitterionic ligands in water at a set pH via Ostwald ripening crystallization. These APQDs exhibit high photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) of up to 82.8% (blue), 98.2% (green), and 92.4% (red), respectively. Owing to the highly efficient bidentate binding of zwitterionic ligands onto APQDs surfaces, as confirmed by theoretical studies, the APQDs demonstrate excellent water storage stability for over 1 month and can retain an impressive 83% of the initial PL intensity after 3 months when transferred to EtOH. With elevated exciton binding energy, extended carrier lifetimes, and lower defect density, APQDs also outperform conventional oil-phase PQDs in terms of thermal and UV irradiation stability. Based on this, water-soluble fluorescent nanoparticles (NPs) are synthesized through self-assembly of APQDs and DSPE-PEG 2000 using EtOH and water as biphasic solvents. Finally, the APQDs@NPs, possessing desired luminescence and biocompatibility, exhibited excellent bioimaging performance in U251 cells.

Metal halide perovskites (MHPs) have been demonstrated to exhibit mixed ionic and electron conductive properties, characterized by their remarkable soft lattice features. However, a full understanding of the complicated interplay between ion, lattice, and carrier recombination and the influence on the optoelectronic properties and performance of perovskite solar cells remains elusive. To this end, the present study utilized time-dependent photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy to investigate the light-soaking effect of organic–inorganic perovskite solar cells doped with alkali metal ions (K+/Rb+) and undoped perovskite films under continuous illumination. Dynamic monitoring of the PL intensity and carrier lifetimes within 1–500 s of continuous illumination revealed significant influences of the alkali metal ions and light intensity on the performance, including the stability of the perovskite solar devices. The results reveal that K+/Rb+ doping in perovskite films induces more positive light-soaking effects. These effects include enhanced PL intensity, inhibited phase separation, and prolonged carrier lifetime. The synergistic combination of these effects leads to the improved photoelectric conversion efficiency and device stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). These findings offer novel insights into the roles of ions in MHPs and are pivotal for comprehending the mechanisms underlying MHP devices, particularly concerning the ionic properties of MHPs.

The catalytic dehydration of bio-derived lactic acid into acrylic acid is one of the research hotspots in the field of green chemical industry, but the selectivity of acrylic acid and the stability of catalyst still face great challenges. In this work, a modified Hβ zeolite catalyst was prepared by sequential nitric acid treatment and Rb ion-exchange for the gas phase dehydration of lactic acid to prepare acrylic acid. The nitric acid treatment increased the content of Lewis acid sites together with the decrease of the content of Bronsted acid sites, which enhanced the dehydration and hindered the decarboxylation/decarbonylation of lactic acid. Consequently, the selectivity of acrylic acid was improved. The Rb ion-exchange not only significantly decreased the density of acidic sites but also regulated the density of basic sites of the catalyst. The optimal 0.1NA-6.8Rb/Hβ catalyst treated by 0.1 mol/L of nitric acid and 6.8 wt% of Rb ion-exchange contributed to a 99.28 % conversion of lactic acid and 76.72 % yield of acrylic acid. The catalyst showed a better stability and was easy to regenerate, maintaining 87.35 % conversion of lactic acid and 62.49 % yield of acrylic acid, respectively, after two cycles of consecutive 48 h reaction.

The grain boundary defects related non-radiative recombination, I − migration, and lead leakage problems are the foundational and fundamental aspects for the perovskite solar cells. Herein, covalent triazine frameworks (CTFs) are introduced into the perovskite film to address these problems. CTFs can passivate the uncoordinated Pb 2+ defects at grain boundary and reduce the lead leakage based on the coordination interaction between nitrogen atoms in triazine ring and Pb 2+ . CTFs can also inhibit the I − migration and reduce the I − vacancy defects based on the anion-π interaction between electron-deficient triazine ring and I − . Benefited from the passivated grain boundary defects and inhibited I − migration by CTFs, the modified target device achieves a power conversion efficiency of 23.05 % with improved humidity stability and thermal stability. Therefore, this work lays the foundation for obtaining effective, stable, and environmentally friendly perovskite solar cells.

Assembling perovskites into heterojunctions enables multifunctional high-performance photodetectors. Compared with vertical heterojunctions, lateral heterojunctions enhance the optoelectronic performance of devices due to the direct contact between the photosensitive layer and light, reducing light reflection losses. However, the fabrication of all-perovskite lateral heterojunctions is challenging through a solution method. The first perovskites formed are easily dissolved by the solvent of the second precursor, hindering their further application in photodetectors. In this study, we have developed a preparation process for the lateral microwire (MW)/film heterojunction and the Ag/RbCu2I3 MW/MAPbBr3 film/indium tin oxide heterojunction photodetector by utilizing an optical fiber-based physical transfer step. Thanks to the high-quality RbCu2I3 MW/MAPbBr3 film lateral heterojunction, the device demonstrated excellent optoelectronic performance at 0 V bias voltage, with a responsivity of 0.79 mA·W–1 and a detectivity of 5.34 × 1012 Jones under 339 nm radiation. In addition, the device exhibited consistent and rapid response times under 355 and 450 nm irradiation. This optical fiber-based physical transfer method provides a self-powered light detection strategy for the preparation of all-perovskite lateral heterojunctions.

The defects from functional layers and interface, the agglomeration of SnO 2 nanoparticles (NPs), and poor perovskite crystallization are the main barrier to further heightening the power conversion efficiency (PCE) and stability of regular perovskite solar cells. Here, a bottom-up multilayer manipulation strategy by pre-embedding multisite racemic DL-cysteine hydrochloride monohydrate (DLCH) into the SnO 2 electron transport layer (ETL) is reported. The positively and negatively charged defects from ETL, perovskite layer and their interface can be passivated through the synergistic effect of the ─SH, ─COOH, ─NH 3 + , and Cl − groups in DLCH. The synergy of multiple functional groups and multiple chemical bonds enables bottom-up cross-layer passivation, which minimizes bulk and interfacial nonradiative recombination losses. Furthermore, the multifunctional DLCH plays a role in inhibiting the agglomeration of SnO 2 NPs, managing photons, relieving interfacial tensile stress, and manipulating perovskite crystallization. Benefiting from the above advantages, the DLCH-incorporating device delivers a PCE of 24.01%, which is much higher than the 21.61% of the control device. Moreover, the DLCH-modified devices demonstrate inviting thermal and ambient stabilities by maintaining 93% of the initial efficiency after aging at 65 °C for 1800 h and 95% of the original PCE after aging under a relative humidity of 20–25% for 2000 h.
