It is crucial to develop electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials with high shielding efficiency (SE) and reduced reflection to mitigate the secondary pollution caused by electromagnetic waves (EMWs). Herein, a novel multilayer assembly strategy inspired by the structure of “Turkish dessert—Baklava” is proposed to introduce magnetic hollow Fe 3 O 4 nanospheres (HFO) and conductive MXene nanosheets into a bacterial cellulose (BC) network. Through a layer-by-layer vacuum filtration approach, a composite BC/MXene/HFO film with a controllable electric-magnetic dual-gradient structure is achieved. The construction of electric-magnetic dual gradients alleviates the impedance mismatch at the air-film interface, resulting in reduced reflectivity toward EMWs, while the unique hollow structure of HFO facilitates the “absorption–reflection–reabsorption” process of EMWs. Consequently, the as-prepared composite film (0.35 mm thickness) exhibits an extraordinary EMI SE of 67.6 dB and a reflection SE as low as 5.1 dB. Furthermore, it also demonstrates exceptional mechanical properties, efficient thermal management, and Joule heating capabilities, as well as remarkable passive and active infrared camouflage performances. This study offers an innovative approach to achieve less reflection and more absorption of EMWs, and expands the application scope of EMI shielding materials in precision electronics, aerospace, and military equipment fields.

With the development of dynamic infrared camouflage technology, photothermal infrared camouflage has attracted researchers' attention due to its remote-control capability and fast response speed. However, lots of photothermal fillers for high temperatures will break the flexibility and transparency of the polymer. In this work, transparent photothermal infrared camouflage liquid metal microspheres/colorless polyimide (LM/CPI) films with light programming were fabricated. The polydopamine-coated LM microspheres endow CPI with excellent photothermal effect, achieving a wide range of infrared camouflage from room temperature to 390 °C. Furthermore, the glass transition, residual stress, and the different thermal expansion coefficients endow the LM/CPI film with light programming and light actuation capability. The LM/CPI film can mimic the bending of an arm and the opening and closing of a hook. Combining the light programming capability with the dynamic infrared camouflage ability of the LM/CPI film proposes an infrared camouflage strategy where the position of the camouflage film is changed through light programming while conducting infrared camouflage, thereby targeting the design of deceptive, false targets or altering the camouflaged area. Therefore, the LM/CPI films open up a new strategy for dynamic infrared camouflage, sketching a promising future for them in dynamic infrared camouflage.

The infrared camouflage textile materials with soft and wear-resistant properties can effectively reduce the possibility of soldiers and military equipment being exposed to infrared detectors. In this paper, the infrared camouflage textile composites with intelligent temperature adjustment ability were prepared by different methods, using phase change microcapsule as the main raw material and high polymer polyurethane as the matrix, combining the two factors of temperature control and emissivity reduction. It was tested by differential scanning calorimeter, temperature change tester, infrared emissivity tester, and infrared imager. The results show that the temperature regulation effect of textile materials finished by coating method is better than dip rolling method, the temperature regulation ability and presentation effect are the best when the microcapsule content is 27%. When the bottom layer of infrared camouflage textile composite is 27% phase change microcapsule and the surface layer is 20% copper powder, its infrared emissivity in the band of 2–22 μm is 0.656, and the rate of heating and cooling is obviously slowed down. It has excellent heat storage and temperature regulation function, which can reduce the skin surface temperature by more than 6 °C and effectively reduce the infrared radiation. This study can provide reference for laboratory preparation and industrial production of infrared camouflage composite material. The infrared camouflage textile composite prepared are expected to be used in the field of military textiles. Keywords:phase change microcapsules;infrared camouflage;emissivity;intelligent temperature regulation;textile composites

The unsatisfactory properties of ceramic aerogels when subjected to thermal shock, such as strength degradation and structural collapse, render them unsuitable for use at large thermal gradients or prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures. Here we present a building-envelope-inspired design for fabricating a thermomechanically robust all-fiber ceramic meta-aerogel with interlocked fibrous interfaces and an interwoven cellular structure in the orthogonal directions, which is achieved through a two-stage physical and chemical process. Inspired by the reinforced-concrete building envelope, we construct a solid foundation composed of fibrous frames and enhance it through supramolecular in situ self-assembly to achieve high compressibility, retaining over 90% of maximum stress under a considerable compressive strain of 50% for 10000 cycles, and showing temperature-invariance when compressed at 60% strain within the range of –100 to 500 °C. As a result of its distinct response to oscillation tolerance coupled with elastic recovery, the all-fiber ceramic meta-aerogel exhibits exceptional suitability for thermal shock resistance and infrared camouflage performance in cold (–196 °C) and hot (1300 °C) fields. This study provides an opportunity for developing ceramic aerogels for effective thermal management under extreme conditions. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved

The effective integration of multiple thermal functions into one material is highly attractive in personal thermal management, taking the complex application environment into consideration. Herein, a multifunctional Janus cellulosic composite encompassing superior electrical heating, energy storage, thermal insulation, and infrared camouflage performance was firstly developed by integrating Janus cellulose nanofibers (CNF) aerogel , polypyrrole (PPy), and polyethylene glycol (PEG). In practice, the active heating-thermal regulation layer (PPy@CNF philic -PEG) of multifunctional Janus cellulosic composite is faced inward to provide heating on-demand through the joint action of the electrically conductive PPy and thermally regulative PEG. The outward-facing hydrophobic aerogel layer (CNF phobic ) serves as the thermal insulator , which simultaneously enables infrared camouflage by reducing heat loss to the environment via infrared radiation. This work presents an effective and facile strategy toward multifunctional Janus materials for efficient personal thermal management, showing great promise for potential applications, such as thermal comfort, infrared camouflage, and security protection.

The green BCG/MgCl 2 /PEG-g-CDA powders were synthesized at different temperatures via liquid-phase reaction method. The microstructures of the synthesized powders were analyzed and characterized by FT-IR, XRD and ChemDraw software. The effects of synthesized temperatures on infrared emissivity properties of the powders in the wavelength range 3–5 μm were investigated systematically. It is found that the powders heated at 100 °C exhibit the optimum crystallinity at room temperature and thus show the largest variation (0.4) in infrared emissivity with the test temperature varying from 50 °C to 65 °C. Furthermore, the mechanisms for the self-regulated infrared emissivity properties are also explored thoroughly. The variation of infrared emissivity with temperature is ascribed to the changes in resistivity, which is induced by the transformation of PEG-g-CDA between crystalline and amorphous as well as the molecular structure transition of BCG between quinone and lactone. Our results suggest that BCG/MgCl 2 /PEG-g-CDA powders are potential candidates for intelligent infrared camouflage.

Visible light transparent and low infrared emission materials have great prospects in infrared camouflage, building energy efficiency, passive radiation heating and many other fields, yet their manufacture remains a formidable challenge. inspired by the overlap of branches and fallen leaves in winter, we applied bionic principles to build a conductive network combining AgNWs and MXene on a transparent PET substrate, and developed an optically transparent, infrared-low-emission flexible conductive film. The prepared MA 10/133 film has a visible light transmittance of not less than 71 %, a sheet resistance of 12.03Ω·sq −1 , and average emissivities of 0.37 and 0.18 in two infrared atmospheric windows of 3–5 μm and 8–14 μm, and demonstrates excellent visible transparency and infrared camouflage performance. In addition, in the field of personal thermal management, with superior passive radiant heating performance, MA 10/133 film covered simulated human skin is 4.5°C and 1.5°C higher than those covered by cotton and woolen fabrics. Stable and controllable Joule heating performance can be used as an effective complement to passive radiant heating performance, with a maximum saturation temperature of 74.7°C at a driving voltage of 5 V, which is sufficient to cope with colder outdoor environments. These properties make composite films promising candidates for military thermal camouflage, outdoor life jackets and smart, energy-efficient windows.

Infrared (IR) camouflage materials with electromagnetic interference shielding (EMI) capability offer both IR countermeasure and electromagnetic protection. However, in practical outdoor scenarios, solar radiation and variable operation conditions complicate background matching due to the issues of specular reflection, background temperature elevation, and source temperature fluctuation. Herein, temperature-responsive liquid crystal elastomer (LCE) films with striated MXene pattern (SML) are developed to achieve adaptive IR camouflage ability with EMI shielding performance. Striated MXene pattern serves as IR radiation modulating and EMI shielding surface while LCE acts as temperature-driven actuator. Hierarchical wrinkles of MXene pattern suppress specular reflection, showing angle-independent IR characteristics. The equivalent emissivity of the SML film can be rationally designed within a range of 0.48–0.72 to match typical sunlit background. The phase transition of LCE can alter the LCE gap width according to source temperature, compensating a 20 °C source temperature fluctuation between 65 °C and 85 °C to IR temperature drift of 3.3 °C. Furthermore, SML film simultaneously possesses EMI shielding switch capability, showing EMI shielding efficiency values of 31 and 19 dB in “on” and “off” state, respectively. This study provides new insight into adaptive camouflage and electromagnetic protection materials for electric equipment deployment in outdoor environments.

Irregular yttrium oxide nanopuncture-coated hollow glass microspheres ( [email protected] 2 O 3 ), as a lightweight, thermal insulating, and high IR reflectivity materials could be prepared by a simple hydrothermal and high-temperature calcination process. Here, a flexible composite fabric with sandwiched structure was designed to combine the good infrared camouflage performance with self-cleaning ability. Thereinto, aluminum foil (AF), [email protected] 2 O 3 , and polypropylene spunbond nonwoven fabric (PPF) were binded and applied for low emissivity layer, thermal insulating layer and self-cleaning layer, respectively. The flexible composite fabric can realize the infrared camouflage effect to effectively shield the heated object (62.8 °C). The radiation temperature detected by the infrared camera is only 32.4 °C, which had a reduction of 30.4 °C. Based on the functional fabrics (anti-fouling performance), excellent thermal insulation (K = 0.0908 W/m-K) and low infrared emissivity (Average emissivity ( ε ‾ ) of AF plane of composite <0.1; Average emissivity ( ε ‾ ) of PPF plane of composite <0.5), the composite material enables the choice of presenting antifouling or thermal camouflage properties in different environments. This work provides another insight into the fabrication of flexible infrared camouflage materials while facilitating the exploration of flexible infrared camouflage materials.

The growing demand for wearable electronics and infrared stealth technologies has highlighted the limitations of traditional electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials, which often lack flexibility, lightweight design, and multifunctional integration. Although hydrogels present a promising platform due to their flexibility, adhesion, and sensing capabilities, the integration of multiple functions into a single material system through a straightforward fabrication process remains challenging. In this study, we developed a one-pot synthesized multifunctional ANE hydrogel that incorporates an ionic liquid (EBIB) as a conductive medium. Unlike conventional conductive fillers, such as silver nanowires or MXene, EBIB enhances both conductivity and interfacial polarization, achieving an EMI shielding efficiency of 34.5 dB in the X-band, surpassing many reported polymer-based shields. By combining this with vat photopolymerization 3D printing, we fabricated tailored topological structures that promote electromagnetic wave dissipation and suppress infrared thermal transmission. The hydrogel demonstrates effective infrared stealth, maintaining a low temperature increase of 24 °C on a 100 °C hot stage for 20 min, outperforming typical nonporous hydrogel coatings. Furthermore, the material exhibits strong adhesion, high strain sensitivity (gauge factor = 5.282 over 150–300% strain), fast response (165 ms), and cycling stability, exceeding the performance of many existing ionic hydrogels in motion sensing. By integration of EMI shielding, infrared camouflage, and wearable sensing in a single 3D-printable system, this study offers a competitive material solution for next-generation multifunctional sensors.

Fabric-based infrared stealth composite materials have both thermal insulation performance and low emissivity characteristics, and are suitable for fields such as infrared camouflage and thermal management. Therefore, this study innovatively designed a multi-layer structure fabric-based composite material that combines efficient infrared reflection and excellent heat insulation performance. Through the wet spinning and hot-pressing combined process, the functionalized MXene coating was combined with the SiO 2 aerogel microsphere (SiO 2 M)/gel fiber insulation layer, achieving a "surface low emissivity-internal high insulation" synergistic protection mechanism. A continuous and dense MXene low emissivity functional layer was constructed on the fabric surface. By adjusting the concentration of MXene, its emissivity in the 8–14 μm infrared wavelength range was reduced to 0.282, while maintaining excellent conductivity (surface resistance < 10 Ω/sq). The innovative design of the insulation system of SiO 2 M and gel fibers network was achieved. The aerogel microspheres effectively inhibit heat conduction through their nano-porous structure, while the gel fiber network hinders air convection. The combination of the two enhances the material's insulation performance (thermal conductivity = 0.04651 W/(m·K)). At a heating temperature of 70 °C, the thickness of the fabric is 1.263 mm, achieving a temperature difference effect of 11 °C. After adding SiO 2 M, the thermal insulation temperature difference increased by 5.8 °C. In sum, when heated to 70 °C, the radiation temperature only shows 43.4 °C, which means that the intensity of the infrared signal is significantly reduced. Therefore, this multi-layer structure fabric composite material provides some novel new ideas for related applications.
