Mangiferin (MG) is an active component in natural medicines, and various studies have been reported on pharmacological effects, but the low solubility and bioavailability of MG limit its wide application. The aim of the present study was to investigate the pharmacokinetic profiles of mangiferin (MG) and mangiferin monosodium salt (MG-Na) in rat plasma by UPLC-MS/MS, which were then compared between the two groups. An appropriate high sensitivity and selectivity ultraperformance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) method was applied to the comparison of plasma pharmacokinetics in MG and MG-Na using carbamazepine as internal standard (IS). These results showed that there were statistically significant differences in the pharmacokinetic parameters between MG and MG-Na after a single oral administration at 100 mg/kg. When compared with pharmacokinetic parameters of MG, the AUC(0-t), AUC(0–∞), Cmax,K10, and Ka of MG-Na were increased by 5.6-, 5.7-, 20.8-, 8-, and 83.6-fold, while the Tmax and CL/F were decreased by 4- and 5.7-fold (), respectively. t1/2 value showed an increasing trend, but was statistically significant between the two groups. Moreover, the AUC value in the MG-Na group was significantly increased and the relative bioavailability was calculated to be 570% when compared with that of the MG group. These results suggested that the salification reaction of MG can effectively enhance gastrointestinal absorption and relative bioavailability by improving solubility and membrane permeability.

Mango juice (MJ) has high nutritional value and decent flavor. However, its aroma could be easily changed by heat treatment during processing, which affects its acceptability and quality. In this study, Bacillus subtilis -HNU-B3 that could transfer carotenoid, was obtained from orchard soil to improve the aroma of fermented mango juice (FMJ). Compared with MJ, the organic acid content of FMJ by B. subtilis -HNU-B3 was significantly changed, and the contents of succinic acid and malic acid were increased to 3.68 mg/mL and 2.04 mg/mL, respectively. Moreover, volatile compounds identified by headspace solid-phase micro-extraction gas-phase mass spectrometry in FMJ were norisoprenoid and acetoin, accounting for 51.52 % of the total volatile substances. In addition, B. subtilis -HNU-B3 fermentation significantly increased the antioxidant capacity and total phenol contents of MJ, and the activity of carotenoid cleavage dioxygenase was 188 U/L. In conclusion, the aroma of FMJ could be improved by B. subtilis -HNU-B3 through increasing the content of norisoprenoid and acetoin. Our results provide theatrical support for Bacillus subtilis to improve the aroma quality of FMJ.

Tannic acid and Fe 3+ were used in this study to create a polyphenol–metal network-based composite film for the preservation of Melaleuca bracteata essential oils. The inhibition rate of ABTS and DPPH free radicals reached more than 90 % at an essential oil concentration of 20 mg/mL. Additive quantities of 2.0 % essential oil nano-emulsion, 0.8 % tannic acid/Fe 3+ solution, 0.4 % microcrystalline cellulose, and 1 % chitosan were used to maximize the characteristics of the composite films. When combined with FTIR analysis, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy revealed that the composite film containing the essential oil emulsion had a more reticulated structure. The essential oil composite layer on mangoes increased the fruit shelf time to 12 days, decreased weight loss by 10.81±4.70 %, increased the amount of soluble solids by 2.03±0.31 %, and increased the amount of vitamin C by 2.18±0.09 %. A trustworthy technical method for the storage and transportation of agricultural goods is offered by this study. Graphical

Background Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), a chronic inflammatory condition categorized into ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD), affects a growing global patient population. Despite the prevalence, clinically there is a scarcity of effective therapeutic agents. Purpose This study investigated the therapeutic effects of fructosyl mangiferin (FM) on UC and elucidated its underlying mechanisms through in vivo and in vitro experiments. Methods In vivo , a UC model of C57BL/6J mice was established via dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) induction, and the therapeutic effects were assessed through intragastric administration. In vitro , the murine macrophage cell line RAW264.7 was stimulated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to establish an M1 polarization model and introduced to explore the role of FM in immune cells. Molecular docking was further employed to investigate the specific molecular mechanisms of FM. Results In vivo experimental findings indicate that FM, like mangiferin (M), preserves mucin secretion and the expression of occludin protein, and both significantly impede the progression of fibrosis associated with colitis. Additionally, FM effectively suppresses M1 macrophage polarization and exerts a pronounced inhibitory effect on the adaptive immune response, outperforming M in mitigating UC. In vitro results corroborate FM's inhibitory action on M1 polarization. Molecular docking studies identified FM as a potential signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) inhibitor, aligning with western blot analyses from both in vivo and i n vitro experiments. Conclusion In conclusion, following fructosylation, FM exhibits remarkable anti-inflammatory and colonic protective effects. FM's ability to control the progression of UC offers a novel strategy for its potential treatment, warranting further investigation into its clinical application.

In the present work, mango pit was used to study the feasibility of converting ionic liquid-pretreated biomass into biofuel and activated biochar by using pyrolysis temperature as a key variable. Ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([Bmim]Cl) was used as a green solvent to dissolve mango pit. The impact of [Bmim]Cl on the pyrolysis properties at peak DTG temperature was investigated. Pretreatment with [Bmim]Cl was observed to slightly enhance biochar yield, while somewhat decreasing bio-oil and biogas yields. The yield of hydrogen and methane, as well as the generation of phenolic and alcoholic bio-oils, are increased by [Bmim]Cl pretreatment. [Bmim]Cl pretreatment was determined to promote the formation of pore structure, a greater number of pores were opened, and the BET surface areas increased 24 times. The pyrolysis kinetics were calculated using the DAEM model. The results showed that [Bmim]Cl pretreatment resulted in lower activation energy and a high amount of fraction mass conversion at low temperatures. As a result, the results showed that pyrolysis of [Bmim]Cl-pretreated biomass did not require high temperatures, and that it is possible to convert ionic liquid pretreatment biomass into high-quality biofuel and active biochar by controlling the pyrolysis temperature. We synthesized excitation-dependent fluorescent carbon dots (CDs) through a one-pot hydrothermal process using mango pulps as precursors and discovered that the ozone-treated CDs (O 3 -CDs) could stabilize the diimine form of oxidized 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (diimine oxTMB). A dual-mode colorimetry and ratiometric fluorescence method using O 3 -CDs and TMB as probes was developed for detecting sarcosine. During measurement, sarcosine was selectively oxidized by sarcosine oxidase, and the resulting hydrogen peroxide was catalyzed by horseradish peroxidase to convert TMB into a blue-colored oxidized product. Under acidic conditions, this product was further oxidized to diimine oxTMB, which exhibited an absorbance band at 450 nm. Due to the inner filter effect, the fluorescence emission of O 3 -CDs at 450 nm was significantly quenched by the diimine oxTMB, while the emission at 550 nm was utilized as a reference signal. The dual-mode method selectively detected sarcosine, with detection limits of 0.034 µM and 0.096 µM for colorimetry and ratiometric fluorescence detection, respectively. The ratiometric fluorescence sensing strategy provided a built-in correction to prevent errors originating from environmental variabilities. Moreover, the stabilization of diimine oxTMB mediated by O 3 -CDs improved the detection performance of the method. This study enriches the library of luminescent CDs through the rational utilization of natural biomass and introduces a novel approach to improve the analytical performance of dual-mode detection.

Increasing evidence shows that the intestinal tract plays an important role in maintaining urate homeostasis and might be a potential therapeutic target for hyperuricaemia . However, uric acid-lowering drugs available in the clinic do not target intestinal excretion as a therapeutic strategy. We previously reported that mangiferin had potent hypouricaemic effects in hyperuricaemic animals. However, the underlying mechanisms are not completely clear. Here, we investigated the effects of mangiferin on the intestinal excretion of urate and its underlying mechanisms. The data revealed that mangiferin concentration-dependently promoted the intestinal secretion of endogenous urate in in situ intestinal closed loops in normal and hyperuricaemic mice, as well as inhibited the absorption of exogenous uric acid perfused into the intestinal loops in rats. Administration of mangiferin not only decreased the serum urate levels in the hyperuricaemic mice but also increased the protein expression of ATP-binding cassette transporter, subfamily G, member 2 (ABCG2) and inhibited the protein expression of glucose transporter 9 (GLUT 9) in the intestine. These findings suggested that intestinal ABCG2 and GLUT9 might be pivotal and possible action sites for the observed hypouricaemic effects. Moreover, no significant changes in intestinal xanthine oxidoreductase activities were observed, suggesting that mangiferin did not affect intestinal uric acid generation in the hyperuricaemic mice. Overall, promoting intestinal elimination of urate by upregulating ABCG2 expression and downregulating GLUT9 expression might be an important mechanism underlying mangiferin lowering serum uric acid levels. Mangiferin supplementation might be beneficial for the prevention and treatment of hyperuricaemia.

In this study, fresh mangos were packed using a custom-made antimicrobial film coated with sustained-release chlorine dioxide microcapsules. We then compared physical and chemical indexes, such as weight loss rate, firmness, chromatic aberrations, soluble solids, vitamin C, titratable acid, and other nutritional indicators, to examine changes in the mango and film during storage. Our findings revealed that control mango showed loss of edible value and commercial value after 21 days of storage, and the chlorine dioxide microcapsule antibacterial film group still retains food value and commercial value. Cross-sectional scanning electron microscopy images of the used film showed that the polylactic acid film was smooth and flat, whereas cross-sections of the antimicrobial film showed that the film was covered with voids due to deliberate release of chlorine dioxide gas during the packaging process. Thus, the antibacterial film exhibited erosion and degradation. These findings provided important insights into the use of antimicrobial films for the packaging of fruits during storage, which is essential for promoting the application of solid chlorine dioxide antimicrobial film in packaging preservation.

BACKGROUND Mango anthracnose is among the most severe diseases impacting mango yields and quality. While this disease can be effectively controlled through chemical means, it is vital that appropriate field efficacy and fate determination studies be conducted when applying pesticides to crops in order to appropriately gauge the ecological and health risks associated with the use of these agents. RESULTS GAP field trials were conducted to explore the efficacy, dissipation, and terminal residues associated with the application of mefentrifluconazole and pyraclostrobin to mango crops in six locations throughout China. These analyses revealed that three applications of mefentrifluconazole [160 mg active ingredient (a.i.) kg −1 ] in combination with pyraclostrobin mixture achieved satisfactory disease control efficacy. To simultaneously detect mefentrifluconazole and pyraclostrobin residues on mangoes, a ‘quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged and safe’ (QuEChERS) high-performance liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS)-based approach was established. The initial mefentrifluconazole and pyraclostrobin concentrations ranged from 0.18 to 0.34 mg kg −1 , and these two compounds exhibited respective half-lives of 5.6 to 10.8 days and 5.5 to 9.0 days. At 21 days following foliage application, the terminal mefentrifluconazole and pyraclostrobin residue concentrations were 0.02–0.04 and 0.01–0.04 mg kg −1 , with these concentrations being below the maximum residue limit (MRL) established for pyraclostrobin. Both short-term [acute reference dose percent (ARfD%) 0.78–2.36% and 2.0–6.08%] and chronic [acceptable daily intake percent (ADI%) 0.08–0.47% and 0.09–0.55%] dietary intake risk assessments for mefentrifluconazole and pyraclostrobin indicated that these terminal residue concentrations are acceptable for the general population. CONCLUSION Mefentrifluconazole and pyraclostrobin in mango was rapidly degraded following first-order kinetics models. The dietary risk of mefentrifluconazole and pyraclostrobin through mango was negligible to consumers. The application of a 400 g L −1 mefentrifluconazole–pyraclostrobin suspension concentrate mixture represents a highly efficacious fungicidal approach to controlling mango anthracnose that exhibits significant potential for development as it is easily degraded and associated with low residual concentrations after application. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry.

Industry-scale microfluidizer system (ISMS) is a novel equipment for producing filtered-free whole beverages. This study investigated the color, nutrition, and flavor changes of whole mango juice (WMJ) treated by ISMS under various pressure (0–120 MPa). Results showed that ISMS well maintained the total soluble solid content, pH value, and yellow color of WMJ. The carotenoids were not destroyed with treatment pressure below 90 MPa, and the carotenoids bioaccessibility of all the WMJ samples was no change. More importantly, ISMS promoted the release of ascorbic acid and total polyphenols by disrupting cellular integrity, thus improving antioxidant activities of WMJ. Volatile compounds analysis found that WMJ samples had more terpenes and aldehydes when treated at 90 MPa, and possessed more esters at 120 MPa. These results demonstrated that ISMS might offer new opportunities to produce WMJ with excellent qualities at an industrial level.

Mangiferin is one of the main bioactive ingredients in leaves of Mangifera indica . But the poor liposolubility and low bioavailability restrict its application. This study aimed to esterify mangiferin with lipase to improve its lipophilicity, and evaluate its antioxidant activity and hypoglycemic properties. Four fatty acids (palmitic acid, lauric acid, stearic acid, oleic acid) were selected for enzymatic esterification with mangiferin by single-factor experiments. Under the following optimum reaction conditions of tetrahydrofuran (THF): tert -amyl alcohol (2:1) was used as solvent, water activity was 0.31, TLIM lipase was 45 mg mL –1 , The ratio of mangiferin to fatty acid was 1:50, and the substrates were pretreated by ultrasonic for 0.5 h, then reacted at 55°C for 21 h, the resulting conversion rates of mangiferin-esterified derivatives exceeded 70.0%. Lipophilicity, antioxidant, and PTP1B inhibitory activity of mangiferin-esterified derivatives were determined. The results demonstrated that compared with mangiferin, the ability to scavenge DPPH radicals decreased by about 9%, but the lipophilicity was increased by 10–30 times, and the lipid antioxidant capacity was also improved significantly. Moreover, the inhibitory activity of protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) exhibited minimal alteration. This indicates that esterification can not only improve the lipophilicity of mangiferin, but also improve its lipid antioxidant capacity. Practical Applications : In the study, a series of mangiferin-esterified derivatives were synthesized and their lipophilicity, antioxidant properties, and PTP1B inhibitory activity were determined. The results indicated that, compared with the untreated mangiferin, the mangiferin-esterified derivatives exhibited superior lipid antioxidant and hypoglycemic activities. Furthermore, the enzymatic esterification method employed in this study offered greater economic and environmental advantages when compared to chemical catalysis. Therefore, the preparation of mangiferin derivatives through enzymatic esterification were deemed feasible with potential application value for enhancing lipid antioxidant capacity in high-fat foods.

To explore changes in volatile compounds of freeze-dried mango powder following various physical field treatments (microwave, irradiation, low-temperature plasma), electronic nose, HS-GC-IMS, and HS-SPME-GC–MS were employed for flavor compound characterization. GC-IMS and GC–MS identified 42 and 97 flavor compounds, respectively, with beta-Damascenone, (E)-2-Octenal, Nonanal, α-Pinene, Ionone, (1 S )-(−)-alpha-Pinene, (E,E)-2,6-Nonadienal, (E)-2-Nonenal, and (−)-Isocaryophyllene were the primary flavor constituent in mango powder. Various physical field treatments disrupted mango powder's cell structure, augmenting surface roughness, diminishing particle size, and affecting volatile compound release. Subsequent flavor analysis distinctly differentiated overall flavor among mango powders post different pretreatments, with microwave and irradiation treatments resembling untreated samples but exhibiting heightened floral and fruity notes, low-temperature plasma treatment intensified mango flavor and enriched aroma. In summary, physical treatments emerge as efficacious means to enhance freeze-dried mango powder's flavor quality.
