The complex microenvironment of diabetic wounds often hinders the healing process, ultimately leading to the formation of diabetic foot ulcers and even death. Dual monitoring and treatment of wounds can significantly reduce the incidence of such cases. Herein, a multifunctional Janus membrane (3D chitosan sponge-ZE/polycaprolactone nanofibers-ZP) was developed by incorporating the zinc metal–organic framework, europium metal–organic framework, and phenol red into nanofibers for diabetic wound monitoring and treatment. The directional water transport capacity of the resulting Janus membrane allows for unidirectional and irreversible drainage of wound exudate, and the multifunctional Janus membrane creates up to a 99% antibacterial environment, both of which can treat wounds. Moreover, the pH (5–8) and H2O2 (0.00–0.80 μM) levels of the wound can be monitored using the color-changing property of phenol red and the fluorescence characteristic of Eu-MOF on the obtained membrane, respectively. The healing stages of the wound can also be monitored by analyzing the RGB values of the targeted membrane images. This design can more accurately reflect the wound state and treat the wound to reduce bacterial infection and accelerate wound healing, which has been demonstrated in in vivo experiments. The results provide an important basis for early intervention in diabetic patients.

Graphical Framework for strong bones : We explored the potential therapeutic effects of magnesium-based metal organic frameworks (MOFs) in osteoarthritis (OA). Mg/HCOOH−MOF was introduced and characterized by SEM, XRD, TGA, and FTIR. ICP−MS data proved that Mg/HCOOH−MOF is stable in various physiological media and can maintain the release of Mg 2+ ions for a long period. MTT assays showed that it is biocompatible and can promote cell proliferation, while qPCR results indicated its activity in anti-inflammation and bone protection, making Mg/HCOOH−MOF potentially suitable for treating OA. This study was designed to explore the potential therapeutic effects of Mg-based metal organic frameworks (MOFs) in osteoarthritis (OA) and to broaden the application field of MOFs. Mg/HCOOH−MOF was introduced and characterized by using SEM, XRD, TGA, and FTIR. ICP-MS results proved that Mg/HCOOH−MOF is stable in various physiological media and can maintain the release of Mg 2+ ions for a long time. In vitro experiments were carried out to evaluate its potential application in attenuating OA. Mg/HCOOH−MOF was successfully synthesized, and results of MTT assays showed that it is biocompatible and can promote cell proliferation. qPCR results suggested that it can significantly regulate the expression of OCN, Axin2, iNOS and IL-1β, which indicated its activity in anti-inflammation and bone protection. We believe that Mg/HCOOH−MOF could benefit OA therapy.

This work studies the use of Fe/Ni-MOFs for the removal of ciprofloxacin (CIP) in wastewater. Fe/Ni-MOFs are prepared by the solvothermal method and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), a scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and a thermal gravimetric analyzer (TG). Under the conditions of the concentration of 50 ppm, a mass of 30 mg, and a temperature of 30 °C, the maximum adsorption capacity of ciprofloxacin removal within 5 h was 232.1 mg/g. The maximum removal rate was 94.8% when 40 mg of the Fe/Ni-MOFs was added to the solution of 10 ppm ciprofloxacin. According to the pseudo-second-order (PSO) kinetic model, the R2values were all greater than 0.99, which proved that the adsorption theory of ciprofloxacin by Fe/Ni-MOFs was consistent with the practice. The adsorption results were mainly affected by solution pH and static electricity, as well as other factors. The Freundlich isotherm model characterized the adsorption of ciprofloxacin by Fe/Ni-MOFs as multilayer adsorption. The above results indicated that Fe/Ni-MOFs were effective in the practical application of ciprofloxacin removal. Keywords:metal–organic frameworks;antibiotics;adsorption

The successful encapsulation of 2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS), a well-known laccase mediator, within a mesoporous metal-organic framework sample (i.e., MIL-100(Fe)) was achieved using a one-pot hydrothermal synthetic method. The as-prepared ABTS@MIL-100(Fe) was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, nitrogen sorption, and cyclic voltammetry (CV). Our ABTS@MIL-100(Fe)-based electrode exhibited an excellent electrochemical response, indicating that MIL-100(Fe) provides an appropriate microenvironment for the immobilization and electroactivity of ABTS molecules. ABTS@MIL-100(Fe) was then evaluated as an immobilized laccase mediator for dye removal using indigo carmine (IC) as a model dye. Through the application of laccase in combination with a free (ABTS) or immobilized (ABTS@MIL-100(Fe)) mediator, decolorization yields of 95% and 94%, respectively, were obtained for IC after 50 min. In addition, following seven reuse cycles of ABTS@MIL-100(Fe) for dye treatment, a decolorization yield of 74% was obtained. Dye decolorization occurred through the breakdown of the chromophoric group by the Laccase/ABTS@MIL-100(Fe) system, and a catalytic mechanism was proposed. We therefore expect that the stability, reusability, and validity of ABTS@MIL-100(Fe) as a laccase mediator potentially render it a promising tool for dye removal, in addition to reducing the high running costs and potential toxicity associated with synthetic mediators.Keywords:laccase;ABTS;metal-organic framework;mediator;decolorization

Considering environmental friendliness and economic factors, the separation and extraction of indium under acidic conditions are of great significance. In this research, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) of UiO-66 were successfully prepared and used for the separation and adsorption of indium. The properties of UiO-66 were structurally characterized using powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area analyzer (BET), thermogravimetric analysers (TGA) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The results show that UiO-66 can resist acid and keep its structure unchanged, even at a strong acidity of pH 1. The adsorption performance of UiO-66 to indium (III) was also evaluated. The results show that the adsorption process of indium ions was by the Langmuir adsorption isotherm, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 11.75 mg·g−1being recorded. The adsorption kinetics experiment preferably fits the second-order kinetic model. A possible mechanism for the adsorption of In(III) by UiO-66 was explored through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Fourier transform infrared analysis(FT-IR). It was concluded that the C=O of free –COOH of UiO-66 was involved in the adsorption of In(III) by cation exchange. This study indicates, for the first time, that UiO-66 can be applied as an acid-resistant adsorbent to recover indium (III).Keywords:UiO-66;MOFs;Adsorption;Indium recovery

The escalating global challenges posed by antibiotic resistance and oxidative stress demand the urgent development of dual-functional materials integrating both antimicrobial and antioxidant capacities to address these intertwined biological threats. This raises a pivotal question: Why not engineer a material capable of simultaneously delivering antioxidant and antibacterial functionalities? To bridge this critical gap, we strategically designed two novel Co and Zn metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) through supramolecular interactions to achieve synergistic antimicrobial–antioxidant performance, rigorously validated via multimodal characterization. Different from traditional antibiotics, these MOFs exert antibacterial effects by controlling the release of metal ions and other mechanisms. Co and Zn-MOFs demonstrated robust antimicrobial efficacy against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, coupled with potent antioxidant properties. Zn-MOFs exhibited enhanced antibacterial activity by intensifying membrane disruption via strengthened hydrophobic interactions with bacterial surfaces, whereas Co-MOFs showcased superior antioxidant capacity derived from their redox-active nature. This study unravels the critical mechanistic interplay between metal-bacteria interfacial dynamics and the preservation of cell wall structural integrity. These MOFs redefine multifunctional material paradigms for combating drug-resistant pathogens and oxidative damage, offering transformative potential for biomedical innovations and beyond.

Adsorption is considered as one of the eco-friendly methods to effectively remove pollutants from water environment. 1 , namely ([Zn 3 (dpcp) 2 (1,4′-bmib) 2 ] n , dpcp = 3-(3,5-dicarboxylphenoxy)-5-carboxylpyridine and 1,4′-bmib = 1,4-bis(2-methylimidazol-1-yl) butane), was synthesized under simple solvothermal method and characterized by XRD , PXRD , TGA , FTIR, BET and Zeta potential . The influence of temperature and pH of the solution and the dye initial concentration on the adsorption process of 1 was investigated using Congo red (CR) as the adsorption object. Pseudo second-order kinetics and Langmuir isotherms more accurately described the adsorption process of 1 . The maximum adsorption capacity measured in the adsorption experiment was about 262.2 mg g -1 . Thermodynamic studies showed that the entire adsorption process was spontaneous. In addition, 1 released the CR dye by a simple organic solvent (ethanol solution of NaOH) and exhibited stable and high adsorption performance over 5 cycles. The subtle hydrogen bond between 1 and the dye promotes its selective adsorption of CR.

Tea contains high levels of the compound epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). It is considered an important functional component in tea and has anti-cancer, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory effects. The eight phenolic hydroxyl groups in EGCG’s chemical structure are the basis for EGCG’s multiple biological effects. At the same time, it also leads to poor chemical stability, rendering EGCG prone to oxidation and isomerization reactions that change its original structure and biological activity. Learning how to maintain the activity of EGCG has become an important goal in understanding the biological activity of EGCG and the research and development of tea-related products. Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) are porous materials with a three-dimensional network structure that are composed of inorganic metals or metal clusters together with organic complexes. MOFs exploit the porous nature of the material itself. When a drug is an appropriate size, it can be wrapped into the pores by physical or chemical methods; this allows the drug to be released slowly, and MOFs can also reduce drug toxicity. In this study, we used MOF Zn(BTC)4materials to load EGCG and investigated the sustained release effect of EGCG@MOF Zn(BTC)4and the biological effects on wound healing in a diabetic mouse model. Keywords:EGCG;MOF;wound healing;diabetes

Rapid economic development and increased demand for mineral products in China have led to extensive extraction of various ores, resulting in significant environmental challenges associated with the generation of industrial solid waste, particularly iron tailings. Despite being a major mining nation, China faces issues of wasteful practices, with substantial amounts of valuable elements lost during the processing of iron ore. This study addresses the urgent need for sustainable solutions by proposing an innovative approach for the recovery of valuable elements from iron tailings. The proposed process involves a sequential application of acid leaching, chemical precipitation, and Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) ion adsorption. The pre-treated iron tailings were leached in HCl solution with pH 1.5 at 70 °C for 2 h, and the co-leaching efficiency of 98.1% V, 98.2% Mo, 99.3% Fe, and 98.7% Mg was obtained. Chemical precipitation is then employed to isolate Fe, Mg V, and Mo and promote the formation of targeted compounds, ensuring concentration and purity. The integration of MOF ion adsorption, known for its high surface area and tunable pore structures, provides an efficient platform for selectively capturing and recovering target ions. 97.7% V and 96.3% Mo were selectively extracted from Zirconium 1,4-carboxybenzene metal-organic framework (UiO-66) adsorption system with pH 5.0 at 30 °C for 6 h, and 91.7% V and 90.3% Mo were selectively extracted from 2-methylimidazole zinc salt metal-organic framework (ZIF-8) adsorption system with pH 5 at 30 °C for 6.0 h. This three-stage process offers an efficient method for the recovery of valuable elements from iron tailings.

Hierarchical electrochemical sensors with specific recognition function have been widely applied for trace amounts detection of metal ions, showing great significance for monitoring environmental quality. Herein, a novel flower-like ytterbium benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate metal-organic framework (Yb-MOF-1) was prepared by a one-step solvothermal method, which was then cast on a glassy carbon electrode to construct a sensing platform. Compared to the traditional rod-like Yb-MOF-2 prepared at a lower pH (pH = 4.26), the Yb-MOF-1 assembled from ultrathin nanosheets has a large surface area (462.356 m²/g), showing simultaneous electrochemical detection performance towards Cd 2+ , Pb 2+ and Cu 2+ in aqueous solution with detection limits of 9.22, 1.69, 15.15 nM, respectively. The experimental results demonstrate its good anti-interference and repeatability. The reliable practical application of Yb-MOF-1 for Cd 2+ , Pb 2+ and Cu 2+ detection in real water samples shows good recovery rates ranging from 95.8 % to 103.5 %, proving the effective strategy in exploring efficient electrochemical sensing materials.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been regarded as an ideal material for the development of functional textiles with filtration function. Such functional textiles with filtration function can be further used to develop personal protective equipment, such as protective masks. This paper focuses on the comparisons of different processes when applying MOFs to conventional textiles. Two different processes existing in the literature, namely the electrospinning method and hot-pressing method, are discussed in this paper. Materials loaded with MOFs developed with these two processes are evaluated and compared, regarding the adsorption of dyes in water and the removal of pollutants. Experiment results indicate that the hot-pressing method is more advantageous when applying MOF to textiles, in terms of adsorption and removal efficiency.Keywords:MOFs;electrospinning;hot-pressing;PM2.5;PM10;PM1.0

Serious environmental and human health problems caused by the abuse of antibiotics have attracted worldwide concern. Recently, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) with high porosity have drawn wide attention for their effects in the adsorption and removal of pollutants from complex matrices. Herein, a high-stable metal organic framework (MOF), i.e., ((ZnCl2)3(L)2·DMF)n, whereL=1,3,5-tris((pyridin-4-ylthio)methyl)benzene), MOF1,was applied to adsorb and remove tetracycline from sewage and dairy products. The results showed that MOF1exhibited a strong performance in the adsorption of tetracycline. The effects of initial pH values, adsorbent dose, contact time and ionic strength of the adsorption performance of MOF1were investigated. The adsorption kinetics best fit the pseudo-second order model, and the adsorption isotherms matched the Langmuir adsorption model well. It was indicated that both chemical adsorption and physical adsorption play an important role in the adsorption process, and the adsorption of tetracycline was homogeneous and occurred on a monolayer on the surface of MOF1. Additionally, the stability of MOF1and the details of the adsorption mechanism were also investigated. Thus, this study provides a new candidate for the application of MOFs-based adsorbents in the removal of antibiotics from sewage and dairy products. Keywords:MOF;adsorption and removal;tetracycline
