The unique structure and physical properties of perovskite-type catalysts make them highly promising for catalyzing efficient coal combustion. Mesoporous perovskite LaNixFe1−xO3(x = 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8) coal combustion catalysts were synthesized using the sol–gel method. The effects of the doping amount of B-site doped nickel on both the crystal structure and catalytic performance were investigated. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and nitrogen adsorption–desorption tests were used to characterize the catalyst samples. Thermogravimetric analysis (TG) and activation energy (Ea) calculations were used to assess the catalyst’s activity for the catalytic combustion of anthracite coal (JF coal, originating from Shanxi, China). Results revealed that nickel doping created lattice distortion and Ni-Fe alloy interactions. The difference in nickel doping significantly affects the morphology and catalytic activity of perovskite. The addition of LaNi0.6Fe0.4O3(NI6) with a mass fraction of 5% resulted in the highest average burning rate value (va= 4.52%/min) of JF coal among all synthesized catalysts. The Eaof JF coal catalytic combustion, calculated using the Coats–Redfern method and the Doyle method, showed a good agreement with the TG curves. The LaNixFe1-xO3series catalysts were found to significantly decrease the Eaof JF coal combustion, with a maximum reduction of 42% compared to the case without any catalyst added. Among the synthesized catalysts, NI6 exhibited a favorable catalytic combustion performance and is thus a promising candidate for the clean and efficient utilization of coal resources.Keywords:B-site doping perovskite;composites;sol–gel chemistry;catalytic combustion

B-site doping is an effective strategy to improve the performance of inorganic perovskite solar cells . Zinc halides (ZnX 2 , X I, Br, Cl) doped CsPbIBr 2 solar cells were prepared by simply introducing ZnX 2 salts into the precursor solution for one step spin-coating process. The doped inorganic perovskite films exhibit enhanced crystallinity and improved surface morphology . More over, the photoluminescence and single-carrier device characterizations confirm that the internal defect density of CsPbIBr 2 films decreases remarkably after ZnX 2 doping and the non-radiative recombination is suppressed. The CsPbIBr 2 solar cells based on the ZnI 2 doped films achieve a champion efficiency of 8.15%, outperforming that (6.93%) of the pristine counterpart.

Electrochemical reduction of nitrate into ammonia (NO 3 - RR) has attracted great attentions because of the potential application for environmental remediation and energy storage. Despite many pioneering works on electrocatalysts development, the correlation between material properties and NO 3 - RR activity is still not fully understood. Herein, taking layered Ruddlesden-Popper type oxide La 2 CuO 4 as a model system, we demonstrate B-site cation doping as an effective approach for modulating NO 3 - RR activities. While Co dopant at Cu site strongly enhanced the NO 3 - RR activity and NH 3 selectivity, Zn and Ni dopants lead to slightly enhanced and suppressed NO 3 - RR performance, respectively. The distinct reaction kinetics of NO 3 - RR on La 2 Cu 0.8 M 0.2 O 4 with different dopants are further revealed by in-situ Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy measurement. Synchrotron-based X-ray absorption spectroscopy showed that B-site doping can effectively regulate metal-oxygen hybridization, leading to strongly tuned surface adsorption characteristics and NO 3 - RR activity. The results of this work can guide the design of highly active (electro)catalysts for environmental and energy devices.

In this work, 5 wt‰ Li 2 CO 3 -doped 0.88Ba 0.8 Sr 0.2 TiO 3 -0.12BiMeO 3 (BST-BMe+5‰Li 2 CO 3 , Me = Al 3+ , Ga 3+ , Ta 5+ , and In 3+ ) ceramics were fabricated using solid phase sintering approach. The impacts of different B-site Me ions on the crystalline structure, permittivity stability, energy density , and energy storage efficiency of these ceramics were studied. The XRD results revealed that the mixed tetragonal (T) and pseudo cubic (pC) phase structure was obtained for all the samples. The In/5‰Li 2 CO 3 sample exhibits the optimal energy density of W rec = 1.04 J/cm 3 and the energy efficiency of η = 96% at 170 kV/cm. Meanwhile, the sample shows outstanding temperature stability satisfying the EIA-X8R criteria, which is ascribed to the combined roles of defect dipoles and large lattice distortion. Li 2 CO 3 plays a key role in reducing the sintering temperature , raising the breakdown strength , enhancing the relaxation characteristics, and improving the thermal stability of energy efficiency of the ceramics.

B-site substituted Sr 2 Fe 1.4 X 0.1 Mo 0.5 O 6-δ (SFXM, X = Bi, Al and Mg) are evaluated as anode materials for hybrid direct carbon fuel cells (HDCFCs). The structure, morphology, conductivity and catalytic activity of the as-prepared SFXM anode are systematically investigated. Under a reducing atmosphere, the exsolution of metallic Fe from the SFXM perovskite lattice are demonstrated by the XRD , SEM and TEM observations. Further element valence analysis on reduced SFXM suggests the X doping significantly alters the Fe 3+ /Fe 2+ and Mo 6+ /Mo 5+ ratio, and thus beneficial to the intrinsic conductivity of SFXM. All these advantages are responsible for the good electrochemical performances of SFXM anodes. Meanwhile, among these SFXM anodes, the conductivity, catalytic activity and electrochemical performance all obey the order of SFBM > SFAM > SFMM. The maximum power densities of the La 0.8 Sr 0.2 Ga 0.8 Mg 0.2 O 3 electrolyte supported single cell with SFBM as the anode reaches 399, 287 and 141 mW cm −2 at 800 °C, 750 °C and 700 °C, respectively. Such designed B-site substitution perovskites have great potential to be applied as HDCFC anode materials.

Protonic ceramic cells (PCCs) are recognized as a promising energy conversion technology for green hydrogen and electricity production owing to their high efficiency, all-solid-state structure, and exceptional reversibility. However, the inadequate mechanical strength of proton-conducting electrolytes remains a critical challenge hindering the widespread application of PCCs. In this study, a cation regulation strategy is employed to enhance the electrolyte mechanical strength by doping silicon (Si) at the B-site of the conventional proton-conducting material BaZr 0.1 Ce 0.7 Y 0.1 Yb 0.1 O 3 − δ (BZCYYb). The optimized Ba(Zr 0.1 Ce 0.7 Y 0.1 Yb 0.1 ) 0.99 Si 0.01 O 3 − δ (BZCYYbSi) demonstrates significantly improved grain boundary conductivity, structural stability, and mechanical strength, achieving a hardness of 3.11 GPa—1.5 times greater than that of pristine BZCYYb (1.14 GPa). The PCC incorporating a thin-film BZCYYbSi electrolyte exhibits a peak power density of 1.179 W cm −2 at 600 °C in fuel cell mode and an electrolysis current density of 1.591 A cm −2 at 1.3 V/600 °C, outperforming the BZCYYb-based counterpart (0.994 W cm −2 and 1.244 A cm −2 ). Additionally, the BZCYYbSi-based PCC maintains a stable operation for over 370 h at 550 °C in a continuous discharge and electrolysis situation. This work provides new insights for the design and fabrication of mechanically strengthened and high-performance electrolytes for low-temperature PCCs.

Compared to a Ni(O) cermet, an oxide anode is much better for a solid oxide fuel cell at suppressing coking and carbon deposition from carbonaceous fuels. Furthermore, a small amount of metal nanoparticles can enhance the electrochemical performance of the oxide anode while maintaining compatibility with the carbonaceous fuel when anchored on the oxide surface. In this study, ferrate-based perovskites (La0.95Fe0.80Ni0.05Ti0.15O3, LFNT) with Ni0 particle exsolution are investigated via B-site doping to increase the stability at 800 °C in a H2 atmosphere and electrocatalytic capability for fuel oxidation. Surprisingly, the B-site doped LaFeO3 (La0.95Fe0.8Mg0.2O3, LFM) showed a high oxide-ion conductivity of 3.8 mS cm−1 with limited electronic conduction and further doping of Ti4+ or Ni2+ could increase the electronic conductivity to 30 S cm−1 and 100 S cm−1 at 800 °C for the reduced La0.95Fe0.8Mg0.05TiO3 (LFMT) and LFNT, respectively. The cell with the LFNT anode on a La0.9Sr0.1Ga0.8Mg0.2O2.85 electrolyte shows a polarisation resistance of 0.32 Ω cm2 at 800 °C, and a high power density of 600 mW cm−2 can be obtained when ceria is added via infiltration as a co-catalyst.
