In order to solve urgent environmental problems caused by oil spills, it is meaningful and necessary to develop novel materials or techniques for efficient oil/water separation. Here, a new polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)-based composite membrane was successfully fabricated via a layer-by-layer self-assembly process, where the active sites were provided by pDA for the CaCO3 growth. Importantly, the CaCO3 structure could be regulated by the concentration of the precursor solution, showing the high flexibility of preparation. The as-prepared PVDF@pDA@CaCO3 membrane possessed superhydrophilic/underwater superoleophobic property and superior anti-fouling ability. In addition, the optimal PVDF@pDA@CaCO3-2 membrane showed a high permeation flux only under gravity, and the separation efficiency was as high as 99%. With the merits of low-cost and great separation performance, the as-prepared PVDF@pDA@CaCO3 membrane exhibited great potential in practical industrial applications for highly efficient oil/water emulsion separation.

The flattened bamboo board (FB) has garnered widespread attention recently due to its ability to enhance bamboo utilization and reduce adhesive consumption. However, FB is primarily composed of three macromolecules: cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin, making it a flammable material. Meanwhile, FB lacks lateral cell tissues, and its relatively low permeability poses challenges for flame-retardant modification. This work introduces an “H 2 O 2 pretreatment-vacuum impregnation-curing” strategy to fabricate the fireproofing of a superior CaCO 3 -mineralized flattened bamboo board (CaCO 3 -FB). The results indicate that H 2 O 2 pretreatment not only enhances the liquid permeability of FB but also maintains a lignin retention rate as high as 69.1 %. The partial retention of lignin, which has a bonding effect, preserves the structural integrity of FB. Cone calorimetry tests show that CaCO 3 -FB significantly reduces peak heat release rate (PHRR), total heat release (THR), peak smoke production rate (PSPR), and total smoke production (TSP) by 34.6 %, 52.9 %, 22.2 %, and 53.6 %, respectively. Overall, the production of flame-retardant FB is successfully achieved through the partial retention of lignin and mineralization of CaCO 3 , which holds great potential to drive significant advancements in the bamboo industry.
