Nowadays, the advancement of eco-friendly, clean, sustainable and renewable new energy has emerged as a research priority for scientists worldwide. Electrolytic water technology is founded on the principle of electrochemical or photoelectric decomposition of water, is deemed as one of the most promising and most feasible approaches to reach industrial production. Traditional OER (oxygen evolution reaction) electrocatalysts like IrO 2 and RuO 2 are beset by high costs and vulnerability to poisoning. Hence, it is essential to develop more economical, more stable and more efficient materials for the application of OER reactions. In this study, a series of AQ-doped (AQ = anthraquinone) MOF-74 materials were fabricated through a one-step solvothermal approach. The surface loading of the conjugated organic small molecule AQ on CoNi-MOF-74 is capable of effectively boosting the inadequate electrical conductivity of the bulk MOF material, thus significantly enhancing the performance of OER. The optimized ratio of material composition of AQ20@MOF-74 displayed significantly enhanced OER activity. with a lower overpotential of 272 mV at 10 mA cm −2 and a smaller Tafel slope of 78 mV dec −1 . The research findings presented in this thesis provide a novel approach for the design and optimization of highly efficient OER electrocatalysts based on MOFs.

Metal–organic framework (MOF)-derived materials show great potential as highly efficient and stable electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). However, conventional derivation strategies (such as high-temperature calcination and chemical etching) often require harsh reaction conditions and inevitably compromise the structural integrity of the material, thereby limiting their practical applicability. To address this challenge, this study presents an innovative room-temperature dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma surface engineering approach that enables the precise activation of CoNi-MOF-74 catalysts at room temperature. After DBD treatment, the surface of NF/PMOF is etched, generating cracks and exposing the nanoporous structure of the internal framework. Remarkably, through merely 5 min of DBD surface treatment, the resulting catalyst NF/PMOF5 achieves an ultralow overpotential of 173 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm–2 and a Tafel slope of 43 mV·dec–1, demonstrating a remarkable improvement compared to the untreated sample (307 mV, 109.5 mV·dec–1). The catalyst also exhibits outstanding stability, with minimal potential shift (<20 mV) after 4000 cycles. Detailed characterization reveals that the DBD treatment maintains the crystalline integrity of MOF-74 while simultaneously optimizing the electronic structure and generating high-density surface CoNi-oxide nanoclusters, which significantly enhance the OER kinetics. Owing to its green and mild treatment conditions, this noncarbonization activation strategy not only provides more options for MOF catalyst design but also demonstrates advantages in the processing of flexible electronic devices.

The flourishing development of electronic devices and radar detection technologies necessitates the urgent creation of high-efficiency electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption materials with expansive absorption bandwidths. Although MXene has garnered significant interest in the domain of EMW absorption due to its tunable dielectric properties and structural designability, its high permittivity often results in poor impedance matching and a single loss mechanism, which makes it difficult to realize optimal EMW absorption capabilities. In this work, CoNi bimetallic metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) derived bayberry-like magnetic porous carbon (CoNiMPC)@carbon nanotubes (CNTs)/MXene (CNCM) hybrids were initially synthesized via simple solution precipitation, thermal treatment, and electrostatic self-assembly strategy. As anticipated, excellent EMW absorption characteristics were achieved by adjusting the ratio of CoNiMPC@CNTs and MXene. Multi-heterointerfaces consisting of zero-dimensional porous carbon , one-dimensional carbon nanotubes, and two-dimensional (2D) MXene, electrical/magnetic coupling effects, and polarization loss induced by abundant heterointerfaces endow the prepared CNCM hybrids with high-performance EMW absorption. Notably, the CNCM-7 hybrid material exhibits a minimum reflection loss (RL min ) of − 65.3 dB at 6.8 GHz with a mere 2.7 mm thickness and an effective absorption bandwidth (EAB, RL < −10 dB) of 5.0 GHz at a thickness of 1.27 mm. This study proposes a unique viewpoint and approach towards the design and preparing high-performance MXene-based EMW absorption materials.

Optimizing the composition and structure of metal-organic framework (MOF) materials has been proven effective in enhancing the performance of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). However, rapid and controllable synthesis of MOF materials still faces challenges. In this work, we employed microwave assistance and surfactant soft templating to achieve rapidly synthesize CoNi-MOF-74 with controllable morphology. By incorporating 4% polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP), we successfully synthesized uniform hexagonal PVP4%-CoNi-MOF-74 within a remarkably short time of only 20 min. The PVP4%-CoNi-MOF-74 exhibited a mesoporous structure, displaying an impressive BET surface area of 1321.8 m 2 /g. PVP4%-CoNi-C alloy was obtained through a direct high-temperature treatment of PVP4%-CoNi-MOF-74 in an N 2 environment. The PVP4%-CoNi-C alloy successfully preserved their initial morphology and pore structure , and exhibited excellent OER performance. At a current density of 10 mA/cm 2 in a 1.0 M KOH solution, it demonstrated an overpotential of 310 mV, outperforming the commercial precious metal catalyst RuO 2 (overpotential of 394 mV). Impressively, even after 3000 cycles, the overpotential of PVP4%-CoNi-C alloy only experienced a minimal positive shift of 0.02 V, showcasing its excellent stability. Through a combination of experimental findings and DFT calculations, it is believed that the superior OER performance of the PVP4%-CoNi-C alloy can be attributed to its morphological dependence induced by the hexagonal prism structure, its large specific surface area facilitating more active sites, as well as the enhanced coordination interactions and faster electron transfer capabilities provided by the unique CoNi active site module.
