Electrodeposition is a facile and scalable strategy to prepare free-standing oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrodes with promising electrocatalytic activity, high active site utilization, and fast mass transportation. In this study, hierarchical CoSe2–NiSe2 heterostructured nanosheets were electrodeposited on three-dimensional Ni foam (NF) via deliberate interface engineering using a two-step potentiostatic route. Morphological analysis confirms that CoSe2–NiSe2 has a hierarchical nanosheet-like morphology, and the surface is composed of NiSe2 (210) and CoSe2 (210) planes. The heterostructure CoSe2–NiSe2/NF electrocatalyst has a remarkably improved OER performance with a low overpotential of 160 mV at 10 mA cm−2 in alkaline media compared to the monometallic Co-based electrocatalyst CoSe2/NF (290 mV@10 mA cm−2) and Ni-based electrocatalyst NiSe2/NF (310 mV@10 mA cm−2). Thus, the strong interface interaction between CoSe2 and NiSe2 in heterostructured CoSe2–NiSe2/NF is essential for high OER performance. Furthermore, the heterostructured electrocatalyst exhibits high stability during 2000 potential cycles and a 5 h chronoamperometric test. The excellent OER performance is attributed to the high electrochemical active area and synergistic effect of the bimetallic selenide-heterojunction. This work offers a facile and scalable strategy for exploiting synergistic electrocatalysis based on heterostructured electrocatalysts, as well as novel instances for the utilization of efficient, low-cost, and non-toxic electrocatalysts in the water-splitting process.

The work reports the fabrication of CoSe 2 @NiSe 2 nanoflowers on nickel foam substrates via one-step microwave method, in which the Ni foam serves as a skeleton and a nickel source. The as-prepared CoSe 2 @NiSe 2 nanoflowers display high capacitance value of 1434 F g −1 at the current density of 1 A g −1 and excellent cycling performance of 87.5% retention after 20,000 cycles at 10 A g −1 . In addition, the supercapacitor device using CoSe 2 @NiSe 2 nanoflowers as the positive electrode and activated carbon (AC) as the negative electrode not only can exhibit wide voltage window of 1.6 V, but also deliver a maximum high energy density of 20.4 Wh Kg −1 at power density of 798 W Kg −1 and 86.6% of capacity retention after 20,000 cycles.

This study focuses on the novel core-shell structured bimetallic selenide CoSe 2 @NiSe 2 /NC., and explores its application in Magnesium-ion batteries (MIBs). Through an efficient electrochemical reaction mechanism, CoSe 2 @NiSe 2 /NC material exhibits excellent performance during charge-discharge cycles, especially in terms of high-rate capability and long cycle stability. At a current density of 0.1 A g −1 , the initial specific capacity of CoSe 2 @NiSe 2 /NC material reaches 380 mAh g −1 , significantly higher than that of CoSe 2 /NC and NiSe 2 /NC materials. Additionally, CoSe 2 @NiSe 2 /NC material demonstrates favorable capacitive and diffusive contributions at different scan rates, with a stable and predictable charge transfer process, reflecting good charge/ion transport capabilities. The outstanding electrochemical performance of the CoSe 2 @NiSe 2 /NC composite is attributed to its unique core-shell architecture, which facilitates efficient charge transport and ion diffusion through interfacial coupling and electronic modulation between the CoSe 2 core and NiSe 2 shell. The material not only effectively buffers volume changes but also suppresses the pulverization and aggregation of the active material, further enhancing the structural stability of the material during long-term charge-discharge processes. Therefore, CoSe 2 @NiSe 2 /NC material provides a new research direction for efficient energy storage systems and holds significant importance for the design of future high-performance battery materials.

Heterointerface engineering has emerged as a promising strategy to enhance the sluggish reaction kinetics and structural instability of conversion-type anode materials for sodium-ion batteries. Herein, a built-in electric field-enhanced CoSe 2 -NiSe 2 heterojunction embedded in flexible nitrogen-doped carbon nanofibers (CoSe 2 -NiSe 2 @CNFs) is constructed via electrospinning and selenization route. The heterointerface induces charge redistribution and accelerates ion diffusion, while the conductive and elastic CNF network effectively accommodates volume changes and maintains structural integrity. As a result, the CoSe 2 -NiSe 2 @CNFs anode achieves a high reversible capacity of 413.8 mAh g −1 at 0.2 A g −1 after 100 cycles and exhibits remarkable long-term cyclability, retaining 309.7 mAh g −1 after 1000 cycles at 1 A g −1 . The reversible conversion mechanism and interfacial stability are systematically validated through ex situ experimental measurements and DFT calculations, which confirm enhanced Na + adsorption and optimized ion transport kinetics at the heterointerface. Moreover, paired with a Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 3 cathode in a full cell, it demonstrates stable cycling performance with low polarization. This work provides an integrated interface-confinement design strategy toward high-rate and a highly fatigue-resistant electrode with exceptional cycling stability.

CNSeCNC was designed as cathode for aluminum batteries. • The CNSeCNC cathode exhibits superior electrochemical performance. • Dual-carbon modification and interface design strategies enhanced the performance. A porous CoSe 2 /NiSe 2 @C@NC cubic nanobox composite material is designed as a cathode material for aluminum batteries. This composite material consists of CoSe 2 /NiSe 2 anchored onto a three-dimensional porous carbon framework forming the core, and is coated with a nitrogen-doped carbon layer on its outer shell. The CNSeCNC cathode has an initial discharge capacity of 356 mAh/g and exhibits excellent capacity retention, retaining 217 mAh/g after 200 cycles. The Coulombic efficiency approaches 100% during prolonged cycling. Even at a high current density of 2.0 A/g, the material still maintains a capacity of 100 mAh/g. The CoSe 2 /NiSe 2 heterojunction generates interfacial lattice distortion that promotes efficient ion transfer. Meanwhile, the internal carbon network, external carbon coating and N-doping significantly boost electronic conductivity. Additionally, the carbon coating layer mitigates framework collapse and aggregation, ensuring superior structural stability throughout cycling. Owing to the improvements introduced through the double-carbon modification, CNSeCNC exhibits remarkable electrochemical performance as a cathode for ABs. The sluggish oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) kinetics greatly limit the development of lithium-oxygen (Li-O 2 ) batteries. Therefore, developing efficient electrocatalysts with high stability to boost oxygen involved reactions is particularly important for promoting the application of Li-O 2 batteries. Here, CoSe 2 @NiSe 2 heterostructure with distinct heterogeneous interfaces was fabricated via deliberate interface engineering. The formation of heterogeneous interface promotes local fine atomic array distortion that can act as an additional active site of ORR/OER. In addition, CoSe 2 @NiSe 2 with a distinct heterogeneous interface is favorable for the formation of built-in electric field during charging/discharging to enable electrodes with fast electrical transfer rates and reaction kinetics. Synergistically, the additional active sites brought by the fine atomic array distortion are highly conducive to the reversible formation and decomposition of the product. Undoubtedly, batteries with CoSe 2 @NiSe 2 exhibit excellent discharge/charge capacity (3530.1 mA h g −1 and 3485.6 mA h g −1 ), low overpotential (1.21 V) and excellent electrochemical stability for over 1200 h.
