The absorption and photoluminescence (PL) of CsMnBr3 with Mn(II) in octahedral crystal fields are extremely weak due to a d–d forbidden transition. Herein, we introduce a facile and general synthetic procedure that can prepare undoped and heterometallic doped CsMnBr3 NCs at room temperature. Importantly, both PL and absorption of CsMnBr3 NCs were significantly improved after doping a small amount of Pb2+ (4.9%). The absolute photoluminescence quantum yield (PL QY) of Pb-doped CsMnBr3 NCs is up to 41.5%, 11-fold higher than undoped CsMnBr3 NCs (3.7%). The PL enhancement is attributed to the synergistic effects between [MnBr6]4– units and [PbBr6]4– units. Furthermore, we verified the similar synergistic effects between [MnBr6]4– units and [SbBr6]4– units in Sb-doped CsMnBr3 NCs. Our results highlight the potential of tailoring luminescence properties of manganese halides through heterometallic doping.

Lead-based perovskites have been prominently featured across diverse fields. Nevertheless, the intrinsic toxicity associated with lead compounds presents substantial environmental and health concerns. Thus, it has become imperative to seek alternatives devoid of lead. Our research presents a pioneering solution to this predicament by zeroing in on cesium-manganese-bromide-based perovskite crystals. Our research involves doping the pseudohalide anion acetate (Ac−) into halide positions within CsMnBr3·2H2O crystals, resulting in a remarkable improvement in their luminescence characteristics. The optimized CsMnBr3·2H2O:Ac− crystals displayed a photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) surpassing 70%, marking a substantial advancement compared to the modest PLQY observed in pristine CsMnBr3·2H2O bulk crystals. Theoretical analysis was employed to ascertain the precise lattice position occupied by Ac−. High-performance ion chromatography confirmed the presence of Ac− and determined the pseudohalide concentration. Studies on carrier dynamics to investigate the impact of Ac− on CsMnBr3·2H2O revealed that the significant enhancement in emission following Ac− doping is linked to the mitigation of nonradiative carrier trapping processes. The differences in Mn–Mn dipole–dipole and spin-exchange interactions were verified through electron paramagnetic resonance, magnetic measurements and femtosecond transient photoluminescent spectroscopy. The experimental data prove that the doping of Ac− leads to a decrease in spin-exchange interaction, which consequently decelerates the separation of holes and electrons, subsequently facilitating the recombination process. Our study provide valuable insights into the mechanism by which pseudohalide affects the perovskite sample, with Ac− suppressing non-radiative recombination processes and also influencing the exciton dissociation, leading to enhanced efficiency in radiative recombination processes. The findings furnish a promising method of conditioning the properties of perovskite crystals, which offers a new way for materials design towards diverse emerging applications.

Lead-free all-inorganic halide materials with different Mn2+-based crystal structures (Cs3MnBr5and CsMnBr3) were obtained using a convenient synthetic method. Cs3MnBr5had a bright green emission (522 nm), with a unique single-exponential lifetime (τavg= 236 µs) and a high photoluminescence quantum yield (82 ± 5%). A red emission was observed in the case of the CsMnBr3structure with a two-exponential fluorescence decay curve, and the lifetime was 1.418 µs (93%) and 18.328 µs (7%), respectively. By a judicious tuning of the synthetic conditions, a mixed phase of Cs3MnBr5/CsMnBr3was also produced that emitted white light, covering almost the entire visible spectrum. White-light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) with color coordinates (0.4269, 0.4955), a color temperature of (3773 K), and a color rendering index (68) were then fabricated using the as-prepared powder of mixed phases of Cs3MnBr5/CsMnBr3with a commercial UV LED chip (365 nm).Keywords:perovskite;Cs3MnBr5;manganese halide;phosphor;white LEDs

Perovskite nanocrystals have gained considerable attention owing to their outstanding photoluminescence and photodetection performance in various applications. However, the rigorous preparation conditions and lead toxicity of most lead halide perovskite nanocrystals still hamper practical application, which achieves efficient deep-red and near-infrared (NIR) emission also meeting the challenge. Herein, sub-25 nm Cl–-doped lead-free CsMnBr3 nanocrystals (NCs) were prepared via a moderate hot-injection method at room temperature and the resulting NCs showcased excellent photoluminescence property with reduced impurities. Furthermore, a substantial enhancement in photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) from 54.20% to 78.05% was achieved by manipulating the Cl– doping concentration, which is attributed to the weakened nonradiative recombination pathways induced by Cl–-mediated defect passivation. Consequently, we fabricated photoluminescent light-emitting diodes (LEDs) based on Cl–-doped CsMnBr3 nanocrystals and achieved NIR emissions of Nd3+, Yb3+, and Er3+ ions. These results reveal that Cl–-doped CsMnBr3 perovskites NCs can not only be facilely prepared via a simple room-temperature synthesis, but also demonstrate promising potential in various areas such as photoluminescent LEDs and near-infrared optoelectronic devices.

The dynamic time-gating anticounterfeiting based on phosphorescence materials is the current hot topic of research. However, the short change time from nanosecond-level fluorescence false information to μs-level fluorescence correct information makes it easily deciphered just by turning off ultraviolet (UV) light. Herein, we first reported a new type of minute-level dynamic time-gating anticounterfeiting technology based on the ethanol-induced phase transition between the red-emitting CsMnBr3 crystals and green-emitting Cs3MnBr5 crystals. Our results show that the dissolution of MnBr2·2H2O from CsMnBr3 into ethanol triggers the phase transition. Moreover, the time of phase transition can be adjusted by mixing with different (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTES) concentrations. By using CsMnBr3 and APTES-CsMnBr3 with different phase-transition times, the true information on “SEO” can be designed to show only in the conditions of specific stimulus (ethanol) and specific time range. Otherwise, the false information on “SEU” or “888” is shown. In comparison to previously reported dynamic time-gating anticounterfeiting technology based on phosphorescence materials, the current reported minute-level dynamic time-gating anticounterfeiting technology based on phase transition increased the difficulty of decryption. Moreover, the combination of nontoxic fluorescence materials and daily life available stimulus (ethanol) makes the current anticounterfeiting technology have great practical value.

Metal halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) have been considered as promising candidates for optoelectronic applications due to its outstanding photophysical property. And yet, the poor stability and toxicity problems severely hinder its practical application. Herein, a “ship in bottle” strategy is proposed for the in situ growth of low-toxicity CsMnBr 3 :Pb 2+ NCs in the mesopores of macro-microporous UiO-66 (M-UiO-66) nanosphere. The resulting CsMnBr 3 :Pb 2+ @M-UiO-66 (CMB@UiO) nanoparticles emit strong red light at 648 nm with a wide full width at half-maximum of 96 nm, a high photoluminescence quantum yield of 76.2%, and significantly improved stability. The ultralow temperature-dependent spectral measurements demonstrate the high optical phonon energy (54 meV) of CMB@UiO nanoparticles. The femtosecond transient absorption analysis clearly demonstrates the suppression of nonradiative recombination process of CsMnBr 3 :Pb 2+ NCs by M-UiO-66 encapsulation. And the finite difference time-domain simulations reveal that the ordered mesopore structure of M-UiO-66 have strong waveguide effect on the emission of embedded CsMnBr 3 :Pb 2+ NCs, which effectively inhibits the reabsorption loss and increases the luminescent efficiency. Furthermore, the CMB@UiO nanoparticles demonstrate promising application in white light-emitting diodes, which possess high luminous efficiency (69.4 lm W −1 ) and excellent operation stability. This work paves the way for the optoelectronic application of low-toxicity perovskite NCs.
