In this study, phosphorus enriched LiMgP 1+ x O 4 (0.00 ≤ x ≤ 0.04) ceramics were synthesized via the solid-state reaction route. The crystal and phase structure patterns were analyzed by the Rietveld refinement and Raman spectroscopy. The dielectric properties were obtained at both microwave and terahertz frequencies. Optimal microwave dielectric performance was obtained in LiMgP 1.01 O 4 , sintered at 875 °C for 4 h: ε r = 6.964, Q × f = 82,057 GHz, and τ f = −27.1 ppm/°C (at 15.361 GHz). Compared with the pure LiMgPO 4 ceramics sintered at 950 °C ( Q × f = 79,100 GHz and τ f = −55 ppm/°C), an appropriate amount of excessive P 5+ reduced the sintering temperature while improving the Q × f value and the thermal stability effectively. Within the terahertz frequency range of 0.2–1.2 THz, the ε r values were decreased to 5.40–6.65 while the tan δ values were ranged from 0.0039 to 0.1228. All experimental results suggested that the LiMgP 1+ x O 4 ceramics are promising for both microwave and terahertz frequency applications.

In this work, we successfully integrated the high-entropy concept into LiMgPO 4 -based ceramics by strategically substituting Mg 2+ with various divalent ions. Through a low-temperature solid-phase reaction method, a series of high-entropy LiMg 0.9 R 0.1 PO 4 (R = Ni, NiCo, NiCoZn, NiCoZnCu, NiCoZnCuMn) ceramics were prepared successfully, and their MW dielectric properties were found to be heavily influenced by the ionic character, lattice energy, bond energy, entropy, ion radius disorder, and electronegativity of chemical bonds. Remarkably, LiMg 0.9 (Ni 0.2 Co 0.2 Zn 0.2 Cu 0.2 Mn 0.2 ) 0.1 PO 4 (LM5RP) ceramics exhibited exceptional MW dielectric properties ( ε r = 7.43, τ f = − 27.6 ppm/°C, and Q × f = 83,216 GHz@13 GHz and 105,889 GHz@28 GHz) when sintered at an extraordinarily low temperature of 900 °C for 2 h. To demonstrate the real-world applicability of the LM5RP high-entropy ceramic, we designed and fabricated a state-of-the-art millimeter-wave (mmWave) filter, operating at 28 GHz, using low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) packaging technology. The filter exhibited unparalleled performance, featuring a low insertion loss (0.9 dB) and wide stopband suppression (> 17 dB @ 2.14 f 0 ). These groundbreaking findings underscore the immense potential of high-entropy ceramics in revolutionizing advanced MW applications, particularly in the domain of B5G/6 G mmWave communication systems.

Blue light-emitting diode (LED) pumped short-wave infrared (SWIR; 900–1700 nm) emitters are providing new solutions in the design of portable and cost-effective infrared light sources for medical, surveillance, and spectroscopy applications by taking advantage of converter technology. However, desirable blue-light-excitable SWIR-emitting phosphors with a peak wavelength longer than 1000 nm are lacking. Herein, a promising broadband SWIR phosphor is designed and developed by incorporating Cr 3+ -Ni 2+ ion pairs into LiMgPO 4 host. Upon 450 nm blue light excitation, the as-synthesized LiMgPO 4 :Cr 3+ ,Ni 2+ phosphor exhibits a broad and intense SWIR emission spanning from 1100–1600 nm with peak wavelength at 1380 nm and a full width at half maximum of 273 nm due to the efficient energy transfer from Cr 3+ to Ni 2+ . Moreover, phosphor-converted SWIR LED prototype device based on the combination of 450 nm blue LED chip and the optimized phosphor is fabricated as a new type of broadband illuminator covering the SWIR waveband, delivering a maximum radiant power of ≈2.7 mW at 120 mA driving current. Benefiting from the distinct spectral characteristics of SWIR light, the practical relevance of the fabricated SWIR illuminator is demonstrated in covert information identification and night vision lighting.
