To accurately evaluate the phase effects of MnO x in Mn-Ce catalysts towards to low temperature NO x removal performance with NH 3 , MnCO 3 @CeCO 3 OH was synthesized firstly and decomposed to MnO 2 @CeO 2 , Mn 2 O 3 @CeO 2 and Mn 3 O 4 @CeO 2 with similar size and morphology, this will avoid the influence of size and morphology on the experimental results. Experimental results show that the MnO 2 @CeO 2 exhibiting the best NO conversion ratio, which achieved nearly 96.5 % at a low temperature of 150 °C, and the catalytic performance order of MnO x @CeO 2 is determined as: MnO 2 @CeO 2 > Mn 2 O 3 @CeO 2 > Mn 3 O 4 @CeO 2 below 200 °C, and MnO 2 @CeO 2 > Mn 2 O 3 @CeO 2 ≈Mn 3 O 4 @CeO 2 at range of 200 –400 °C. But the N 2 selectivity of Mn 2 O 3 @CeO 2 reaches 96 % at 100 °C which was higher than that of MnO 2 @CeO 2 and Mn 3 O 4 @CeO 2 . Characterizations including BET, XRD, SEM, H 2 -TPR, NH 3 -TPD and FTIR show that MnO 2 @CeO 2 has maximum specific surface area, a stronger redox ability, and more surface acid sites.

The stability of MnO x based low temperature SCR catalysts remained to be a serious issue. This report explored use of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) network with uniform structure as a “rigid” pore template for synthesis of mesoporous MnO x -TiO 2 SCR catalyst with high surface area and high stability. The results showed that MWCNT network imposed MnO x -TiO 2 catalyst a mesoporous porosity with a narrow pore size distribution centered on ∼13.2 nm and a surface area of 131.6 m 2 g −1 stabilized at 500 °C. The mesoporous structure was formed by interconnected nanoparticles, comprised of crystallized rutile TiO 2 core surrounded by amorphous MnOx , with an average diameter of ∼8 nm. The catalyst exhibited an excellent low temperature SCR activity and selectivity as well as high resistance to deactivation and poison by H 2 O and SO 2 . SnO 2 modification led to degradation of catalytic performance in low temperature (60–180 °C) side, but improvement at high temperature side (240–360 °C), especially at high gas velocity, which can be attributed to change in structure, reactivity of MnO x and surface acidity induced by SnO 2 addition.

MnO x has received widespread attention in low-temperature catalytic oxidation of VOCs, however, the synergy effect of MnO x and support on the VOCs catalytic ozonation were rarely studied. In this study, five different MnO x /X (X: MCM-41, 13X, ZSM-5, HY, USY) were synthesized and found their support greatly affect the catalytic oxidation activity. MnO x /MCM-41 presents the largest specific surface area, pore volume and unique surface morphology, and thereby provides more sites for MnO x loading and VOCs adsorption. Moreover, MnO x /MCM-41 presents a high proportion of Mn 3+ , which helps to enhance the ion exchange capability, and thus promotes the regeneration of oxygen vacancies. Furthermore, a part of Mn was proved to be introduced into the MCM-41 lattice, which can promote the electron transfer between the active components and the support, and thereby effectively improve the surface electronic properties of the catalyst. The toluene catalytic experiments showed that MnO x /MCM-41 exhibited the best catalytic activity , presenting complete degradation of O 3 and VOCs at room temperature. In addition, 5 wt%MnO x /MCM-41 exhibited better catalytic activity than other loading, and its higher surface oxygen species endowed it with strong water resistance and stability. In-situ DRIFTs indicated that toluene was initially oxidized into benzyl alcohol during the adsorption process, and then decomposed to intermediate products (benzaldehyde, phenolate, etc.) during the catalytic ozonation process, and finally oxidized to carbon dioxide. In conclusion, the supply of loading sites and the improvement of interfacial electron transfer are the manifestations of the synergy between the support and MnO x , leading to the promotion of the catalytic ozonation of VOCs.

A ZSM-5 zeolite with a hierarchical pore structure was synthesized by the desilication-recrystallization method using tetraethyl ammonium hydroxide (TEAOH) and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as the desilication and structure-directing agents, respectively. The MnOx/ZSM-5 catalyst was synthesized by the ethanol dispersion method and applied for the low-temperature selective catalytic reduction of NOxwith NH3. The results showed that NOxconversion of the hierarchical MnOx/ZSM-5 catalyst could reach 100% at about 120 °C and could be maintained in the temperature range of 120–240 °C with N2selectivity over 90%. Furthermore, the hierarchical MnOx/ZSM-5catalyst presented better SO2resistance performance than the traditional catalyst in the presence of 100 ppm SO2at 120 °C. XRD, SEM, TEM, XPS, BET, NH3-TPD, and TG were applied to characterize the structural properties of the MnOx/ZSM-5 catalysts. These results showed that the MnOx/ZSM-5 catalyst had micropores (0.78 nm) and mesopores (3.2 nm) leading to a larger specific surface area, which improved the mass transfer of reactants and products while reducing the formation of sulfates. The better catalytic performance over hierarchical MnOx/ZSM-5 catalyst could be attributed to the higher concentration of Mn4+and chemisorbed oxygen species and higher surface acidity. The improved SO2resistance was related to the catalyst’s hierarchical pore structure. Keywords:hierarchical pore structure;MnOx/ZSM-5;NH3-SCR;SO2resistance

MnO x exhibits excellent low temperature activity for degradation NO x , but its poor SO 2 tolerance restrains its application. Herein, an in situ construction method for MnO x loading on Mn-doped ZrO 2 carrier with carbon (MnO x /Mn-ZrO 2 -C) derived from Mn(NO 3 ) 2 /UIO-66 by in situ doped pyrolysis–oxidation, in which Mn replaces Zr to modify the electronic structure of the ZrO 2 . The MnO x /Mn-ZrO 2 -C with abundant surface oxygen and acid sites showed excellent activity and better SO 2 resistance. A series of characterization results indicated that Mn doping modulates the electron structure of carrier ZrO 2 and enhances the interactions among MnO x , carbon, and Mn-ZrO 2 , resulting in increasing the electron cloud density around Mn and Zr, and consequently, the Mn and Zr on the MnO x /Mn-ZrO 2 -C exhibit poorer sulfiphilic. These findings emphasize the benefits of utilizing a multipronged effect to fabricate highly active and sulfur-resistant NH 3 -SCR catalysts.

In this work, hollow-structured MnO x and FeO x -MnO x were synthesized by self-template route and applied for CO oxidation . FeO x -MnO x exhibited better catalytic activity than MnO x . It could convert 79.1% CO at 20 °C and had a higher CO conversion during the temperature ramping. The FeO x species could react with HCl and greatly helped to increase the specific surface area (428.5 m 2 g − 1 ) and pore volume (0.82 cm 3 g − 1 ) of the catalyst. The reserved FeO x in the FeO x -MnO x sample enhanced the redox properties and increased the amount of reactive oxygen species.

Metal oxide catalysts derived from MOFs can inherit the excellent performance from their parent MOFs, possess abundant surface defects and high stability, and have attracted widespread interest in multiphase catalysis. In this study, we used Mn-MOF as a precursor and systematically investigated the evolution of MnO x catalysts by setting different calcination temperatures and times. XRD, SEM, TEM, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), N 2 adsorption–desorption analysis, XPS, H 2 -TPR, CO 2 -TPD, electrochemical characterization, and other methods were used to investigate the structural characteristics, microstructure, surface properties, and photoelectric properties of the catalysts. The catalytic performance of the catalysts was also investigated through photocatalytic carbon dioxide hydrogenation reduction tests. Research has shown that calcination temperature and time have a significant impact on the phase structure and surface properties of MnO x , and the physicochemical properties of derived MnO x can be controlled by controlling calcination temperature and time. Among them, MnO x -500 has a wider light absorption range, better electron transfer performance, richer oxygen vacancies, and excellent separation performance of photo generated charge carriers, resulting in higher photocatalytic CO 2 hydrogenation and reduction performance. Its CO yield and selectivity reached 7420 μmol/g/h and above 99 %, respectively. This study provides valuable references for the preparation, optimization, and utilization in CO 2 photothermal catalytic conversion of MnO x catalysts derived from MOFs.

At present, it is challenging to improve the activity and humidity resistance of ozone catalysts. Herein, an integrated MnOx–Al2O3 aerogel was prepared by a sol–gel method in this study, and its application in catalytic ozonation of toluene was explored preliminarily. Compared with the MnOx–SiO2 aerogel and impregnation catalysts (MnOx–silicalite-1 and MnOx–γ-Al2O3), the MnOx–Al2O3 aerogel exhibited superior performance in toluene removal and enhanced ozone utilization efficiency under optimal conditions (room temperature, O3 : C7H8 = 14 : 1, GHSV = 45 000 h−1 and 120 ppm C7H8). After reacting for 360 min, the 5 wt% MnOx–Al2O3 aerogel still showed stable catalytic ability, with the efficiency of toluene removal and ozone degradation maintained at 64.1% and 62.7%, respectively. Based on SEM characterization, the MnOx–Al2O3 aerogel demonstrated low MnOx agglomeration. From XPS and NH3-TPD analyses, it was found that the catalyst had a high content of Mn3+/Mn, Oβ/O, oxygen vacancies and acid sites, which was positively related to ozone degradation. Among them, an increase in the number of weak acid and moderately strong acid sites could prolong the life of active oxygen, which was the key to promoting the deep oxidation of toluene effectively. In addition, the MnOx–Al2O3 aerogel exhibited remarkable load-adjustability and humidity resistance. Therefore, the development of aerogel catalysts for catalytic ozonation of toluene is an effective strategy to alleviate the current ozone catalyst problem.

A series of HZSM-5 supported MnOx catalysts with different manganese contents were prepared by an incipient impregnation method and tested for the catalytic oxidation of toluene. The catalytic results indicate that 10% MnOx/HZSM-5 exhibits the optimum catalytic activity, excellent catalytic durability in dry conditions and high regeneration capability in humid conditions. The dispersion of MnOx species on the HZSM-5 surface significantly reduces coke formation and simultaneously efficiently accelerates the oxidative decomposition of coke deposition during toluene catalytic oxidation. An obvious cooperative action is present on the MnOx/HZSM-5 catalysts for the catalytic oxidation of toluene, which is originally attributed to the excellent toluene adsorption capacity and trapping ability of HZSM-5 as well as the superior redox ability of the MnOx species. The correlation between characterizations and the catalytic results reveals that the mesoporous structure and low-temperature reducibility of MnOx are key factors responsible for the catalytic performance of toluene oxidation. Moreover, the Brønsted acid sites of the HZSM-5 zeolite, as active promoters, play a significant role in the catalytic oxidation of toluene through a comparative analysis with SiO2 and Al2O3 supported MnOx catalysts. The existence of a cooperative action between the redox ability of the MnOx species and the acidic properties of the HZSM-5 zeolite in the MnOx/HZSM-5 catalysts results in a high catalytic activity for the reaction.

High electrochemically active manganese dioxide (MnO2) has been deemed to be a promising active material for a high mass loading electrode. Here, an amorphous MnOx nanostructure constituted by ultrafine MnOx nanoparticles was fabricated by a simple, controllable, and cost-effective strategy. The electrochemical properties of the as-prepared MnOx nanostructures were significantly improved due to their amorphous crystalline structure. For a high mass loading electrode, an optimized content of amorphous MnOx, carbon black, and carbon nanotubes was measured to be 79.1%, 13.5%, and 7.4%, respectively. A high mass loading electrode of 13.5 mg·cm–2 was fabricated with a capacitance of 371.3 F·g–1 calculated based on the weight of pure amorphous MnOx. Hence, a high mass loading asymmetric supercapacitor assembled by amorphous MnOx (12.6 mg·cm–2) and activated porous carbon (APC, 22.4 mg·cm–2) delivers an ultrahigh areal energy density of 780.3 μW h·cm–2. Furthermore, a good cycling stability with 98% of the initial capacitance retention was achieved after 8000 cycles, meeting the requirements of a commercial energy storage device.

Catalytic ozonation with supported metal oxides is a promising strategy for addressing refractory pollutants in wastewater. In this study, γ-Al 2 O 3 supported MnO x -CeO x catalysts (MC 1 , MC 2 , and MC 3 ) obtained at different calcination temperatures (400 °C, 550 °C, and 700 °C) were applied as effective catalysts for ozonation and explored the feasibility of the treatment of oxytetracycline (OTC) wastewater. Comparatively, the MC 2 possessed the highest molar ratios of Mn 3+ /Mn 4+ (1.60) and Ce 3+ /Ce 4+ (0.96), the largest surface area (273.8 m 2 g −1 ) with a petal-shaped structure, and most abundant surface hydroxyls (3.78 mmol g −1 ). These physicochemical characteristics benefited the surface reaction and resulted in the acceleration of ozone decomposition, electron transfer, and •OH generation, thereby improving the catalyst’s adsorption ability and catalytic activity. The combination with MC 2 increased the OTC and COD removal of the ozonation process from 59.1% and 29.0% to 94.7% and 83.3% in 25 min, respectively. By employing electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and radical quenching experiments, it was verified that •OH species generation promoted the mineralization of OTC. The possible degradation pathways of OTC were investigated through mass spectrometry, and the route consisted of dehydration, deamination, and demethylation. Moreover, during a 12-day continuous experiment, MC 2 catalyst exhibited excellent reusability and catalytic stability, with COD removal efficiencies above 80%.

The increasing complexity of environmental pollution posed a higher requirement for the development of environment-governed functional materials . Herein, to achieve desired synergy and multiple functionalities of eco-friendly nanomaterials , a micelle-mediated metal assembly strategy was proposed to integrate plasmonic Ag nanoparticles into MnO x modified mesoporous silica hosts by metal-modified neutral dodecyl amine surfactant , correspondingly, a multifunctional mesoporous Ag@MnOx/m-SiO 2 (AMSs) nanocomposite was obtained. The characterization results revealed that the introduction of Mn and alteration in the amount of Ag mediated the formation of a special mesostructure and nanometric morphology of the silica host. Bearing a low Ag loading (r.t. of Ag/Mn = 1/2), ultrafine Ag nanoparticles were embedded in the inner core of mesoporous silica nanospheres . While assembly with a higher Ag concentration affected the morphology of the obtained AMSs and resulted in rich Ag nanoparticles on the exterior surface of mesoporous silica. By this strategy, ultrafine Ag nanoparticles and well-dispersed amorphous MnO x species were coupled into the mesoporous silica to reach a special configuration and integrated functionality. The obtained AMSs-3 can effectively inactivate bacteria ( E. coli , S. aureus, and P. aeruginosa ) with a prolonged inhibitory effect, rapidly reduce harmful nitrophenol, as well as photothermally assist water evaporation (evaporation rate of 1.51 kg m −2 h −1 , receiver efficiency of 87%). This work provides versatile environment-governing functional nanomaterials for both highly effective antimicrobial and environmental remediation.
