The development of highly efficient photocatalysts for CO2 reduction remains a critical challenge in achieving sustainable energy conversion. In this study, we report the synthesis of a UiO66-NH2@In2O3, integrating UiO66-NH2 metal organic frameworks (MOFs) with indium oxide (In2O3) nanoparticles, forming a robust heterostructure. Characterization results demonstrated that calcination at 250 °C for 4 hours yielded a heterostructure with indium uniformly incorporated, as confirmed by XRD, SEM, TEM and ICP-OES analyses. XPS studies revealed significant electronic interactions between UiO66-NH2 and In2O3, including shifts in binding energies of indium and zirconium, indicative of chemical bonding. This heterostructure facilitated enhanced charge separation and transfer, as evidenced by photocurrent measurements, leading to superior photocatalytic CO2 reduction performance. Under light irradiation, UiO66-NH2@In2O3 achieved a CO production rate of 83.68 μmol g−1 during the first hour and a cumulative yield of 485.08 μmol g−1 after 7 hours, significantly outperforming pristine UiO66-NH2 and In2O3. The superior activity is attributed to the large surface area of UiO66-NH2, facilitating CO2 adsorption, and the heterojunction formation with In2O3, enhancing charge carrier dynamics. These findings highlight the synergistic effects of UiO66-NH2 and In2O3, providing insights into the design of advanced photocatalysts for environmental and energy applications.

Solid-phase microextraction (SPME) has been widely used for the analyzing trace organic pollutants in environmental samples. The properties of coatings have a significant effect on the application range, selectivity and sensitivity of existing analytical methods. Therefore, the development of SPME technology depends on fibers with a stable, efficient, and selective coating. In this study, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) were used to fabricate porous carbon membranes in situ for SPME. The composite material (UIO66-NH 2 @PAC) was directly carbonized to prepare a derivative porous carbon material (C-UIO66-NH 2 @PAC), which was applied to the extraction of off-odour organic pollutants for the first time. The Zr-N co-doping in the material was not only beneficial to the formation of derivatized porous carbon, but also endowed it with a certain hydrophilicity, which was highly advantageous for capturing weakly polar compounds. By optimizing the extraction and desorption conditions, a highly selective and sensitive analytical method was developed, which exhibited a detection limit of 0.61 and 0.78 ng L −1 for 2-methylisoborneol (2-MIB) and geosmin (GSM), respectively, along with a linear range from 10 to 3000 ng L −1 . Both intra-fiber repeatability (RSD 5.5 % and 3.7 %) and inter-fiber repeatability (RSD 9.7 % and 8.8 %) were satisfactory. The fiber coated with C-UIO66-NH 2 @PAC exhibited high extraction efficiency (the extraction efficiency of the analytes was 4.6–8.3 times higher than that of commercial fibers), and had excellent thermal and chemical stability. Finally, the C-UIO66-NH 2 @PAC-coated fibers were successfully applied to the SPME analysis of off-odour organic pollutants in real water samples, and these results highlighted the broad prospect for the detection of natural/drinking water.

Water pollution is a growing issue that requires remediation. Surfactants, used in many domestic and industrial applications, are one of the emerging contaminants that require immediate concern. Removing low-concentration surfactants using nanofiltration (NF) membrane is a study that deserves attention. In this case, a mixed polyamide-based NF membrane was fabricated via interfacial polymerization (IP) using polyethylenimine (PEI) and piperazine (PIP) as monomers in aqueous solution. UiO66-NH 2 and UiO66 were synthesized and incorporated into the polyamide layer to enhance the permeability of the prepared NF membranes. The pure water flux of the NF membranes reached 16.6 L m −2 h −1 bar −1 when UiO66-NH 2 concentration in aqueous solution is 0.005 wt%, and the membrane showed decent rejection to divalent salts, 96.5% to MgCl 2 and 85.6% to Na 2 SO 4 . The prepared membranes were utilized to remove surfactants with the concentration (100 mg L −1 ) below the critical micelle concentration (CMC) from water, and they showed good removal to both anionic and cationic surfactants . In addition, the durability of the fabricated NF membranes is acceptable. This work provides a feasible strategy for the fabrication of highly permeable NF membranes and demonstrates the capability of NF membrane for surfactants removal.

Pt nanoparticle-anchored zirconium-based metal organic framework nanocomposites (Pt@UiO66-NH 2 ) with large surface areas and highly dispersed Pt nanoparticles were synthesized and applied to prepare acetylcholinesterase (AChE) biosensors for organophosphorus pesticides (OPs) detection. Because of integrative impact of excellent electron conduction channels and the increasing of adsorption sites of Pt@UiO66-NH 2 as well as the ultrahigh surface area to increase AChE immobilization, the prepared biosensors exhibited high sensitivity towards malathion (as a model for OPs), malathion was detected ranging from 1 × 10 −14 M to 1 × 10 −9 M and 4.9 × 10 −15 M was regarded as limit of detection. The biosensors also displayed accurately. Moreover, the Pt@UiO66-NH 2 /GCE was used to detect OPs in cabbage and apple samples. This study manifests the profound potential of metal nanoparticle/MOF composites for biosensors with improved electrochemical performance.

Carbon fabric (CF)-reinforced polymer composites show great potential in wet friction applications, but their performance is severely limited by poor interfacial adhesion and susceptibility to abrasive wear. Herein, we propose a “rigid-flexible” hierarchical interface strategy utilizing a conformal defect-filling carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) layer and an in-situ grown rigid UiO66-NH 2 octahedral array to enhance the mechanical and tribological properties of CF/phenolic composites. The CMC/UiO66-NH2 hierarchical modification reduced surface defects and increased the apparent single-fiber tensile strength by 89.3%. Meanwhile, the UiO66-NH 2 array increased the surface roughness and promoted mechanical interlocking with the resin matrix. The combined CMC/UiO66-NH 2 interface improved interfacial load transfer and reduced premature debonding, leading to a 75.1% increase in tensile strength. Furthermore, under alternating friction shear, the hierarchical interface promotes the formation of a protective tribofilm, promoting the in-situ formation of a continuous solid tribofilm. This transitions the wear mechanism from severe abrasive wear to mild sliding wear, resulting in an 81.1% reduction in the specific wear rate. This study provides an interfacial design strategy for designing high-load-bearing and highly durable fabric composites for demanding tribological applications.
