Catalytic Oxidation of Chlorobenzene over Amorphous Manganese-Chromium Catalysts Supported by UiO-66-Derived ZrOx

Pengfei Zhu,Qiaosen Yuan,Na Li,Zhaoxia Hu,Shouwen Chen

The development of efficient catalysts with longevity to remove chlorobenzene is challenging due to Cl poisoning. Herein, a series of Mn-Cr/ZrOxcatalysts supported by Zr-based metal-organic framework (UiO-66)-derived ZrOxwas prepared and investigated for chlorobenzene (CB) catalytic oxidation. MnCr/ZrOx-M prepared via a wet impregnation method presented an amorphous structure, indicating the homogeneous dispersion of Cr and Mn, which improved acid and redox properties. 40Mn7Cr3/ZrOx-M exhibited the best catalytic activity for chlorobenzene oxidation with T90of 293 °C, which is mainly due to the strong interaction between manganese and chromium promoted by the large specific surface area of the ZrOxsupport. Furthermore, 40Mn7Cr3/ZrOx-M presented excellent stability for chlorobenzene oxidation.

Ultrafine PtGa Clusters Confined in Porous ZrOx/SiO2 Nanofibers for Enhanced Propane Dehydrogenation

Pangpang Li,Jingyi Jiang,Han Yan,Yuexin Zhai,Wanlin Fu,Yueming Sun,Yunqian Dai

Ultrafine Pt clusters exhibit superior activity for propane dehydrogenation compared to larger Pt nanoparticles; however, they are prone to sintering at high operating temperatures, leading to a decline in both activity and selectivity. In this work, porous ZrOx/SiO2 nanofibers featuring highly dispersed ZrOx nanodomains within a SiO2 matrix were successfully fabricated via a high-throughput blow-spinning process. The abundant and thermal-stable 1.6 nm micropores significantly stabilize 1.5 nm PtGa clusters against sintering at temperatures over 800 °C, due to the pore confinement. Moreover, the electron transfer from Ga to Pt is significantly enhanced in close proximity to ZrOx, contributing to metallic Pt with exceptional activity toward C–H bond activation. Thereby, the sinter-resistant PtGa/ZrOx/SiO2 nanofibers maintained 98.8% propylene selectivity and 43.2% propane conversion rate over 100 h of reaction, with a deactivation rate constant down to 0.0045 h–1. This work explores a sinter-resistant catalytic system based on oxide nanofibers and elaborates a new logic for the design of high-performance propane dehydrogenation catalysts with long-term stability.

Rationally designed Au-ZrOx interaction for boosting 5-hydroxymethylfurfural oxidation

Yunlei Zhang,Yu Cao,Changhao Yan,Wenyun Liu,Yao Chen,Wen Guan,Fang Wang,Yiran Liu,Pengwei Huo

Upgrading bioderived 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) to high value-added bioplastic monomer 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) is a promising route for biomass conversion. Developing an efficient supported metal catalyst and clarifying the structure–activity relationship between the support and active sites is the key to boost FDCA production. Herein, ZrO 2 coated on natural and abundant halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) was synthesized and employed as a support for Au nanoparticles loading. The Au-ZrO x interface active sites were successfully engineered, and the active site amount can be rationally tailored by adjusting the crystal phases of ZrO 2 via changing calcination temperature. A combination study of catalysts surface physicochemical properties and catalytic activity reveals that oxygen vacancies (O v ) play a vital role in enhancing the adsorption of O 2 . Meanwhile, interface active sites facilitate the chemisorption and activation of O 2 molecules, which makes it easier to produce oxygen active species (superoxide radicals). More importantly, in-situ infrared spectroscopy and adsorption experiments also demonstrate that the catalyst with a higher O v concentration not only contributes to a stronger Lewis acid intensity, but also enhances the adsorption capacity of a key intermediate 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furancarboxylic acid (HMFCA), thus leading to an acceleration of the rate-determining step of hydroxyl group oxidation. The highest 99.4 % of FDCA yield can be obtained in 3.0 h. This newly proposed model of interface active sites may shed a light on the design of novel heterogeneous catalysts for the related biomass oxidation reactions.

Microwave-Assisted Photocatalytic Degradation of Dimethyl Phthalate Over a Novel ZrOx Catalyst

Wenchao Liao,Tong Zheng,Peng Wang,Sisi Tu,Weiqian Pan

A novel microwave-assisted photocatalytic active ZrOx catalyst, which has mix-valences and wide bandgap, has been prepared by cetyltrimethylammonium bromide–assisted hydrothermal method. Structural and optical properties were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, N2 adsorption–desorption, and UV–vis techniques. Total organic carbon (TOC) removal of dimethyl phthalate (DMP) (100 mL, 50 mg L−1) with 1 g L−1 ZrOx approached 84% after a 30-min reaction, which was about 15% and 11% higher than ZrO2 and P25 TiO2, respectively. TOC removal of DMP by microwave-assisted photocatalytic process followed pseudo–first-order kinetics in all cases, and ZrOx evidently accelerated the degradation of DMP. Degradation half-life time of DMP using ZrOx was shortened 43% and 34%, compared with ZrO2 and P25 TiO2, respectively. A possible catalytic mechanism of ZrOx was proposed based on microwave response and interfacial charge transfer analyses. Further research on ZrOx may develop a promising new generation of highly efficient catalysts for the microwave-assisted photocatalytic process for environmental remediation.

Synthesis of Heteroatom Pd-ZrOx Species on Zeolite for Complete Methane Oxidation

Xuan Tang,Ming Wang,Bingjing Tang,Yunkun Zhao,Wangcheng Zhan,Yanglong Guo,Li Wang,Sheng Dai,Yun Guo

Realizing the potential benefits of nanoscale metal catalysts requires highly dispersed active sites and control of their local environment. Herein, we develop a catalyst synthesis route for manipulating the local environment of highly dispersed metal-active sites via the targeted deposition of Pd near highly dispersed ZrOx on ZSM-5 zeolite using electrostatic interactions. The formed heteroatom Pd-ZrOx in zeolite catalysts is characterized by scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM), in situ infrared spectroscopy, temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) of O2, and temperature-programmed surface reaction (TPSR) of CH4. The combination of diverse characterization results demonstrates the heteroatom Pd-ZrOx species rendering a higher dispersion and lower oxygen coordination of Pd species, appropriately tuning the strength of Pd–O bonds, and providing abundant active oxygen species to accelerate the dissociation of CH4. Therefore, the catalytic performance of Pd species is effectively enhanced with the lowest temperature of 90% CH4 conversion decreasing from 390 °C (without ZrOx) to 340 °C. Our work provides a strategy of engineering to anchor highly dispersed noble metal species and regulate the local environment to tune catalytic properties.

Field-Effect Transistors Based on Welded SnGaO Nanowire Networks

Chuanyu Fu,Yanan Ding,Yixin Zhu,Zhijie Xin,Guoxia Liu,Fukai Shan

One-dimensional metal-oxide nanowire networks (NNs) are considered as important elements in electronics due to their unique physical and electrical performances. In this letter, Sn1-x Gax O NNs were fabricated and field-effect transistors (FETs) based on Sn1-x Gax O NNs with different Sn/Ga ratios were constructed. The characteristics of the FETs have been systematically investigated. In order to promote the adhesion and electrical performance of nanowires, Sn1-x Gax O NNs were welded by introducing the polymer mixture containing poly vinyl pyrrolidone and poly methyl methacrylate. Utilizing a welding process, the transport properties of Sn1-x Gax O NNs have been greatly promoted, and the FETs based on Sn0.8 Ga0.2 O NNs exhibit optimum electrical performance. Once integrated with high-k ZrOx dielectric, the FET based on Sn0.8 Ga0.2 O NNs/ZrOx exhibits high stability and high electrical performance, including aμFE of 5.2 cm2 /V s, an Ion/Ioff of 1.5×106, a subthreshold voltage of 170 mV/decade, an on voltage of -0.25 V, and a negligible hysteresis of ~0.12 V. The successful fabrication of the FETs based on Sn0.8 Ga0.2 O NNs lays the foundation for the development of low-consumption, low-cost and high-performance electronic devices.

Efficient microwave-assisted photocatalytic degradation of endocrine disruptor dimethyl phthalate over composite catalyst ZrOx/ZnO

Wenchao Liao,Tong Zheng,Peng Wang,Sisi Tu,Weiqian Pan

A highly active ZrO x /ZnO catalyst for microwave-assisted photocatalytic (MW/PC) degradation of endocrine disruptor dimethyl phthalate (DMP) has been prepared via cetyltrimethylammonium assisted hydrothermal method. The ZrO x /ZnO was characterized by XPS, XRD, UV-Vis, BET and SEM techniques. The XPS result showed that Zr oxides with different valences (+2, +3, +4) co-existed in ZrO x /ZnO. By using the ZrO x /ZnO (0.1 g), the TOC removal efficiency of DMP (100 mL of 50 mg/L) was 88% after 30 min reaction, which was about 15% higher than P25 TiO 2 . It was found that the removal process of DMP by MW/PC followed pseudo first-order kinetics in all cases, and ZrO x /ZnO significantly accelerated the degradation of DMP. The degradation half-life time of DMP was shortened 45% compared with P25 TiO 2 . A possible catalytic mechanism was proposed based on microwave response and interfacial charge transfer. ZrO x /ZnO could be reused for six times without obvious decrease in catalytic activity. The study offers new insights into designing highly efficient catalysts for MW/PC process and is applicable for MW/PC environmental remediation.

Morphological and optical evolution of metallic oxide/Au nanoparticle hybrid thin film: High absorption and reflectance by plasmonic enhancement

Sui Mao,Jiliang Liu,Yuyong Pan,Jihoon Lee,Zhao Yao,Puran Pandey,Sundar Kunwar,Zhijun Zhu,Wenfei Shen,Laurence A. Belfiore,Jianguo Tang

Hybrid metal-oxide (MO)/metal nanostructures (MNSs) have been appealing in widespread optoelectronic devices due to their strong and tunable plasmonic activity encompassing selective scattering and absorption of wavelength depending upon the surface morphology and surrounding dielectric environment. In this paper, the various MO/Au NSs hybrid thin-films are fabricated via the solid-state-dewetting growth of Au NSs and sol-gel deposition of MO top-layers including ZrO x , CeO x , YO x and AlO x . Over 450% enhancements in maximum absorption are observed along with the peak redshift of 168 nm for the series of MO/Au NS films. The overall plasmonic properties undergo three regimes by the systematical control of film morphology: (I) Rapid enhancement, (II) Slow enhancement and (III) Decay. The optical evolution is correspondingly investigated with the assistant of finite-different time-domain (FDTD) calculation. This work may give an aid to the photo-electronic applications, such as photovoltaics , sensing and surface enhanced Raman scattering , based on hybrid MNSs especially on control of their plasmonic properties.
