BACKGROUND Mango anthracnose is among the most severe diseases impacting mango yields and quality. While this disease can be effectively controlled through chemical means, it is vital that appropriate field efficacy and fate determination studies be conducted when applying pesticides to crops in order to appropriately gauge the ecological and health risks associated with the use of these agents. RESULTS GAP field trials were conducted to explore the efficacy, dissipation, and terminal residues associated with the application of mefentrifluconazole and pyraclostrobin to mango crops in six locations throughout China. These analyses revealed that three applications of mefentrifluconazole [160 mg active ingredient (a.i.) kg −1 ] in combination with pyraclostrobin mixture achieved satisfactory disease control efficacy. To simultaneously detect mefentrifluconazole and pyraclostrobin residues on mangoes, a ‘quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged and safe’ (QuEChERS) high-performance liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS)-based approach was established. The initial mefentrifluconazole and pyraclostrobin concentrations ranged from 0.18 to 0.34 mg kg −1 , and these two compounds exhibited respective half-lives of 5.6 to 10.8 days and 5.5 to 9.0 days. At 21 days following foliage application, the terminal mefentrifluconazole and pyraclostrobin residue concentrations were 0.02–0.04 and 0.01–0.04 mg kg −1 , with these concentrations being below the maximum residue limit (MRL) established for pyraclostrobin. Both short-term [acute reference dose percent (ARfD%) 0.78–2.36% and 2.0–6.08%] and chronic [acceptable daily intake percent (ADI%) 0.08–0.47% and 0.09–0.55%] dietary intake risk assessments for mefentrifluconazole and pyraclostrobin indicated that these terminal residue concentrations are acceptable for the general population. CONCLUSION Mefentrifluconazole and pyraclostrobin in mango was rapidly degraded following first-order kinetics models. The dietary risk of mefentrifluconazole and pyraclostrobin through mango was negligible to consumers. The application of a 400 g L −1 mefentrifluconazole–pyraclostrobin suspension concentrate mixture represents a highly efficacious fungicidal approach to controlling mango anthracnose that exhibits significant potential for development as it is easily degraded and associated with low residual concentrations after application. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry.

A fast, effective, and environmental-friendly method was developed for enantioseparation and analysis of mefentrifluconazole in vegetables based on supercritical fluid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. The enantioselective behaviors of mefentrifluconazole enantiomers in tomato, cucumber, and pepper in the greenhouse, and pickled cucumber and pepper during processing were investigated. Mefentrifluconazole enantiomers could obtain baseline separation within 2 min. The average recoveries of all matrices ranged from 78.4% to 119.0%, with relative standard deviations less than 16.8% for two enantiomers. S -(+)-mefentrifluconazole was preferentially degraded in pepper, while there was no enantioselectivity in tomato and cucumber under field conditions. During processing, S -(+)-mefentrifluconazole was reduced preferentially than R -(−)-mefentrifluconazole in pickled cucumber and cucumber brine. Inversely, R -(−)-mefentrifluconazole degraded faster than S -(+)-mefentrifluconazole in pepper brine. But, no obvious enantioselectivity was observed in pickled pepper. The result of this study could contribute to a more accurate dietary risk assessment of mefentrifluconazole in vegetables and processed products.

A switchable deep eutectic solvent-based homogeneous liquid–liquid microextraction (SDES-HLLME) technique was developed and combined with high-performance liquid chromatography–diode-array detection for the determination of the chiral fungicide mefentrifluconazole. A (green) SDES was synthesized from 4-methoxyphenyl and 3-amino-1-propanol and used as an extraction solvent (thus avoiding the use of toxic extraction solvents). To improve the efficiency of the extraction process, a hydrophobic extraction solvent was subsequently generated in situ by adjusting the pH. The detection process is linear in the range of 0.01 to 1 μg ml −1 . The limit of detection and limit of quantification were determined to be 0.003 and 0.01 μg ml −1 , respectively. Recovery rates of 79.2% to 104.6% were acquired with relative standard deviations of 0.6% to 2.5%. The method is fast, simple, and environmentally friendly. Moreover, it was successfully used to enantioselectively determine the concentrations of mefentrifluconazole residues in water, fruit juice, and fermented liquor samples.

A simple, rapid, and efficient pretreatment method of mefentrifluconazole enantiomers in cereal samples was established by dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction coupled with ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-diode array detector (UHPLC-DAD). In this study, a novel ternary magnetic deep eutectic solvent (MDES) [octyltrimethylammonium bromide][cobalt chloride][acetic acid] was synthesized as the extractant. Acetic acid was used as the dispersant to promote the in situ dispersion of binary MDES [octyltrimethylammonium bromide][cobalt chloride]. The microdroplets of binary MDES containing mefentrifluconazole were separated by an external magnet. Device-assisted dispersion and time-consuming centrifugation steps were eliminated to ensure simplicity and rapidity of the pretreatment. Good linearity ranging from 0.01 μg g −1 to 2 μg g −1 was obtained. The extraction recovery varied from 82.9 to 95.0%. The limit of detection was 0.003 μg g −1 . Finally, this established approach has been applied for the enantioselective detection of chiral mefentrifluconazole in corn, rice, wheat, millet, and sorghum samples.

In this work, an efficient and accurate method integrates a high-affinity poly(deep eutectic solvents) vinyl-functionalized graphene oxide nanocomposite (PDESs-VGO), miniaturized centrifugal-accelerated pipette tip extraction (CAPTE), and high-performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet (HPLC-UV) detector for accurate determination of mefentrifluconazole (MFFCZ). PDESs-VGO is synthesized in an aqueous system under room temperature, employing deep eutectic solvents as modifiers, which enhance its water compatibility and recognition capability for MFFCZ. The high-affinity adsorbent exhibits synergistic adsorption interactions, including hydrogen bonding, π–π stacking, and electrostatic adsorption, alongside a high adsorption capacity of 162.0 mg/g and rapid mass transfer. The method achieves a low detection limit (0.3 ng/g), excellent linearity (0.001–2.0 μg/g, r = 0.9999), and high precision (relative standard deviation ≤ 7.2%) and accuracy (83.6%–118.2%). Validation and analysis of real samples indicate that this method is highly effective for monitoring MFFCZ in fruits and vegetables, thereby ensuring food safety and protecting human health. This work demonstrates that this functional graphene oxide nanocomposite has great potential as an adsorbent in analytical chemistry.
