Alternariol, a mycotoxin, has been shown to inhibit the short action current across transepithelial sodium pumps. This compound has also demonstrated the ability to have acute cytotoxic effects on cells and cause a halt in cell proliferation. At high doses, alternariol has been reported to induce cell growth arrest in G2/M phase. Additional experiments sμggest that alternariol interacts with DNA by intercalation and causes DNA damage. Alternariol is an inhibitor of AChE and BChE.A mycotoxin with anti-proliferative activity Product Description: Alternariol belongs to the dibenzo-pyrones chemical group. It is a mycotoxin present in indoor air, soil and plants. Product Application: Alternariol from Alternaria sp. may be used as a calibration standard in reverse phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and UV-spectrum analysis. It may also be used to spike wholemeal wheat flour for wet baking studies. |
