Electrocatalytic polyethylene terephthalate (PET) waste upgrading is crucial for developing a circular plastics economy and solving the energy crisis, but achieving efficient PET upgrading at an industrial-scale current density remains a formidable challenge. In our work, Ni-MOF@MnCo-OH catalyst was prepared by designing hierarchical heterostructure and incorporating the concept of multi-metal sites, wherein the Ni-MOF can be derived from PET plastic. Benefiting from the advantages of material design, the catalyst demonstrates excellent adsorption capabilities for both OH ad and ethylene glycol (EG), while also enhancing the electron transfer capability of Ni-MOF. We achieve a high Faradaic efficiency (∼80 %) during PET plastic upgrading at industrial-scale current density (300 mA·cm −2 at 1.43 V vs. RHE) with Ni-MOF@MnCo-OH. Moreover, through theoretical calculations and in situ Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, we have further elucidated the mechanism of ethylene glycol oxidation reaction (EGOR). Notably, glycolic acid has been identified as a vital intermediate during the electrical oxidation of EG. This work provides a viable and eco-friendly approach to enhance the value of PET waste through sustainable means.

Kaempferol (KA), which is a biologically active natural polyphenol compound with considerable medicinal value, can be used to fight various diseases. Herein, a β-cyclodextrin/fullerene-graphene oxide/Nickel-metal–organic framework (β-CD/C 60 -GO/Ni-MOF) composite-based electrochemical sensor was developed to detect KA; the composite was characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron (XPS) spectroscopy. The biocompatibility and host–guest recognition performance of β-cyclodextrin (β-CD); the porosity and the catalytic performance of the nickel-metal–organic framework (Ni-MOF); and the excellent electrical conductivity of fullerene-graphene oxide (C 60 -GO) work together to considerably improve the detection performance of the sensor for KA. The sensor has an extensive linear range (0.5–50 μM) and a low detection limit (58 nM) with an electrochemically active specific surface area of 0.0971 cm 2 ; furthermore, the redox mechanism of KA in the sensor is explained. For the detection of actual natural samples of broccoli containing KA, satisfactory recovery rates and accuracy were observed; the recovery rate was 96.4 %–101.1 %.

Exploitation of highly efficient catalysts for photocatalytic degradation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) under visible light irradiation is highly desirable yet challenging. Herein, well-aligned 2D Ni-MOF nanosheet arrays vertically grown on porous nickel foam (Ni-MOF/NF) without lateral stacking were successfully prepared via a facile in situ solvothermal strategy. In this process, Ni foam could serve as both a skeleton to vertically support the Ni-MOF nanosheets and a self-sacrificial template to afford Ni ions for MOF growth. The Ni-MOF/NF nanosheet arrays with highly exposed active sites and light harvesting centres as well as fast mass and e− transport channels exhibited excellent photocatalytic oxidation activity and mineralization efficiency to typical VOCs emitted from the paint spray industry, which was almost impossible for their three-dimensional (3D) bulk Ni-MOF counterparts. A mineralization efficiency of 86.6% could be achieved at 98.1% of ethyl acetate removal. The related degradation mechanism and possible reaction pathways were also attempted based on the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and online Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometer (PTR-ToF-MS) results.

Reasonably tuning the structure of Ni 2 P based complex electrode is decisive to boost its applications in supercapacitor. Herein, we demonstrate the design and preparation of NiMoO 4 @Ni 2 P nanosheet arrays with unique core–shell architecture on Ni foam (NF) for pseudocapacitor. The directly grown Ni–MOF on NF was used to couple with NiMoO 4 via an ion exchange between BDC 2− and MoO 4 2- , which is crucial to form a stable NiMoO 4 @Ni 2 P/NF core–shell structure during the subsequent phosphatization. The NiMoO 4 @Ni 2 P/NF electrode can deliver a high capacitance of 3655.1 mF cm −2 at 1 mA cm −2 with a remarkable cycling stability (95.35 % over 4000 cycles). Additionally, the assembled NiMoO 4 @Ni 2 P/NF–2//AC/NF device achieves a stable working voltage of 1.7 V and delivers a superior energy density of 0.155 m Wh cm −2 at a power density of 1.705 mW cm −2 . The outstanding performance of pseudocapacitor is mainly ascribed to the stable diffusion channel, rich reactive species and hetero–interface, enabling fast electrochemical reaction kinetics.

The novel TiO 2 and Ni-MOF materials were synthesized and utilized for the detection of permethrin (PET). A highly sensitive solid-state electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensor was developed based on Ni-MOF@Ru(bpy) 3 2+ and Au NPs@TiO 2 . In this sensing platform, Ru(bpy) 3 2+ -Tripropyl Amine (TPrA) was used as a luminescent signal, Ni-MOF acted as a carrier to carry more luminescent reagents Ru(bpy) 3 2+ . Au NPs acted as promoters facilitated electron transport and TiO 2 could further enhance the luminescence intensity of the system by synergistical interaction with Au NPs. The possible mechanisms of signal amplification were investigated. The ECL intensity decreased significantly with increasing PET concentration, enabling the determination of PET amount through the observation of the change in ECL signal intensity (ΔI). Under optimal experimental conditions, the linear range of PET concentration from 1.0 × 10 −11 mol L −1 to 1.0 × 10 −6 mol L −1 , with a detection limit of 3.3 × 10 −12 mol L −1 (3S/N). This method was successfully applied to determine PET in various vegetable samples.

High-sensitive fluorescence biomimetic sensor for CBZ is developed. • Ni-MOF is combined with specific adsorption capacity of MIP. • Ni-MOF@MIP probe shows high specificity and sensing sensitivity for CBZ. • Adsorption capacity of Ni-MOF@MIP for CBZ has good stability. A novel fluorescence biomimetic sensor with high selectivity and sensitivity for the detection of carbendazim (CBZ) in fruits, vegetables and grains is established. This sensor is assembled from nickel-based metal-organic framework (Ni-MOF) and molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP). Here, Ni-MOF serves as the fluorescent signal source and carrier, and MIP is coated on the surface of Ni-MOF as a biomimetic recognition element for CBZ to prepare Ni-MOF@MIP probe. The fluorescence of Ni-MOF@MIP will be quenched after adding CBZ, and the fluorescence difference can be applied to realize the quantitative detection of CBZ. The sensor shows wide linear range of 0.01 to 5.00 × 10 3 μg/L ( R 2 = 0.996), and the detection limit (LOD) is 8.4 × 10 −3 μg/L (S/N = 3). The recovery of CBZ in spiked fruits, vegetables and grains has been confirmed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The fluorescent sensor provides a promising strategy for the detection of CBZ residue in fruit, vegetable and grain samples. The nitrogen–doped porous carbon (NPC) foam composites modified by magnetic nanoparticles exhibit lightweight properties and excellent impedance matching, making them highly valuable for research and applications in electromagnetic wave shielding and absorption. The present work focuses on binary Co/Ni–MOF as the subject, combining it with carbon foam by adjusting the Co/Ni ratio to obtain various MOF derivatives, thereby exploring their electromagnetic properties. The composite CoNi-2/NPC, yielded through calcinating the precursor CoNi-2/HMT (Co: Ni = 1: 1) at 500 °C, demonstrates excellent wave absorption performance with a low filler content of 15 wt%, achieving a minimum reflection loss of –52.7 dB and an effective absorption bandwidth of 7.36 GHz. The radar cross section (RCS) simulation reveals an RCS reduction of 22.8 dB m² for CoNi-2/NPC. The excellent electromagnetic absorption can be ascribed to the increased interfacial polarization, the improved impedance matching, and defect-induced polarization loss. The present research offers a novel perspective for the design of high–performance electromagnetic absorbing materials featuring a broad absorption bandwidth through controlling their magnetic components.

Alkaline water electrolysis is a highly promising method for green hydrogen production. However, the sluggish kinetics of the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), particularly the high energy barrier associated with the water dissociation step (Volmer step), severely limit its overall efficiency. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), featuring well-defined active sites and tunable compositions and structures, serve as an ideal platform for investigating how the local microenvironment of metal sites governs their catalytic activity. This work reports an atomic-level coordination engineering strategy. By modulating the synthesis conditions to tailor the coordination environment of metal sites in Ni-MOFs, we regulate their electronic structure and interfacial water behavior. The synthesized Ni-N4-MOF exhibits outstanding catalytic activity in 1 M KOH, requiring a low overpotential of only 363 mV to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm -2 , with a Tafel slope of 104 mV dec -1 . This performance surpasses that of most reported non-precious-metal-based MOF catalysts. Furthermore, the catalyst exhibited excellent performance stability, showing only 4.8% voltage increase during a 200-hour continuous operation test at a constant current density of 10 mA cm -2 . Combined theoretical and experimental studies reveal that the enhanced HER performance of Ni-N4-MOF originates primarily from an accelerated Volmer step at the Ni sites. This acceleration is achieved by promoting the adsorption and dissociation of free water, optimizing the adsorption behavior of reaction intermediates, and modulating interfacial water behavior. This work provides important insights for designing high-performance alkaline HER electrocatalysts through precise engineering of the local coordination environment.

Interfacial solar evaporation is regarded as the promising technology to mitigate freshwater scarcity. However, when polluted water is used, toxic pollutants might accumulate in the bulk water. Herein, we report the production of Ni-MOF nanorod from waste poly(ethylene terephthalate) and fabricate bifunctional Ni-MOF-based evaporators. Owing to high light absorption and photothermal conversion, low thermal coefficient, and vaporization enthalpy, it shows an exciting evaporation rate (2.25 kg m −2 h −1 ) with good flexibility/durability, rated as one of most advanced evaporators. Density functional theory and COMSOL results show that the combination of nickel-sites in Ni-MOF and local heat plays a crucial role in peroxymonosulfate activation to produce reactive species. Thereby, it exhibits the high degradation activity of tetracycline. In outdoor, the freshwater production reaches 5.54 kg m −2 per day, and the tetracycline removal efficiency is 91%. This work provides a sustainable approach to produce solar evaporators capable of freshwater production and contaminant degradation.

Lamellar membranes are attracting extensive attention for high throughput and precise molecules/ions sieve separation. However, the energy-consuming exfoliation and low yield of single-layer nanosheets restrict the massive production of membranes. Herein, we facilely fabricated 2D Ni-mediated metal-organic framework (Ni-MOF) membranes directly from multiply stacked nanosheets (MSNs) for both aqueous and organic molecular sieve separation. Multiply layered nanosheets were obtained from a high concentration dispersion via simple ultrasonic treatment. The morphology and chemistry of synthesized Ni-MOF nanosheets were characterized via scanning electron microscopy (SEM), N 2 adsorption-desorption, Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR), and X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS). The thickness of Ni-MOF membranes could be well regulated by the volume of dispersion. The membrane exhibited high molecular rejection to 8GX (97.29%), EB (96.28%), CR (99.69%), and CBB (93.31%) in water, respectively and a stable perm-selectivity in continuous 24 h filtration. The lamellar membrane showed excellent pressure and pH (2–10) resistance. The membrane achieved rational permeance of various organic solvents mainly depending on viscosity and good rejection to MB (91.37%), BY (92.01%), and EB (96.90%) in isopropanol.

Ginsenoside Rh2 is a rare but pharmacologically potent component of ginseng, which is known for its immunomodulatory, anti-tumor, and antiaging effects. However, its low natural abundance and the instability of free enzymes used in its biosynthesis hinder large scale production. To address these challenges, a magnetic nanocomposite nickel-based metal organic framework (Ni-MOF) via a mild, bovine serum albumin (BSA)-templated synthesis method was developed. This MOF was engineered to enable simultaneous purification and co-immobilization of recombinant glycosyltransferase (UGT) and sucrose synthase (SUSy), forming a dual-enzyme catalyst system BSA-Trypsin-Fe 3 O 4 /MOF@UGT&SUSy BT-Fe 3 O 4 /MOF@UGT&SUSy for the biotransformation of ginsenoside Rh2. The immobilized enzyme system BSA-Trypsin-Fe 3 O 4 /MOF (BT-Fe 3 O 4 /MOF) demonstrated high enzyme loading 176.39 mg/g and enhanced thermal, pH, and storage stability compared to free enzymes. The co-immobilized UGT-SUSy system also facilitated in situ regeneration of UDP-glucose, significantly improving catalytic efficiency. Under optimized conditions, the system achieved a Rh2 yield of 80.67 μg/mL and retained 58.01 % of the initial activity after 12 repeated cycles. This work not only highlights the potential of BT-Fe 3 O 4 /MOF in sustainable and efficient enzymatic catalysis but also offers a sustainable and scalable approach for the enzymatic synthesis of high-value nutraceuticals.
