Polyurethanes Based on Dicyclohexylmethane 4,4′-Diisocyanate and N-tert-Butyldiethanolamine for Enhancing the Dyeability of Fiber toward Acid Dye

Pengsheng Jing,Jinmei Du,Dagang Miao,Guowei Xiao,Yang Jiang,Changhai Xu

Conventional polyurethane fiber (CPUF) has been widely used in clothes, but it is difficult to color CPUF into a deep hue with acid dyes. In this work, it is proposed that polyurethane is synthesized using dicyclohexylmethane-4,4′-diisocyanate (HMDI) and N-tert-butyldiethanolamine (TBDEA), named poly(HMDI-TBDEA), and is added to a CPUF spinning solution to prepare a modified polyurethane fiber (MPUF) which has an enhanced dyeability toward acid dyes. It is assumed that poly(HMDI-TBDEA) brings tertiary amine groups and tert-butyl groups to MPUF, of which the tertiary amine groups can be protonated under acidic conditions and electrostatically adsorbs anionic ions of acid dyes, and the tert-butyl groups disrupt the ordered arrangement of hard segments in polyurethane to increase the accessible area for acid dyes. The synthesis of poly(HMDI-TBDEA) was validated by proton and carbon nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H and 13C NMR) and gel permeation chromatography. MPUF was characterized by differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetry, X-ray diffraction, and the tensile test. The study revealed that the addition of poly(HMDI-TBDEA) disrupted the ordered arrangement of the hard segments and strengthened the soft segments but had no obvious influence on the thermal stability. In comparison with CPUF, MPUF exhibited approximately the same elastic recovery, despite a drop in the elongation at break and the break strength. The zeta potential test demonstrated that MPUF might be protonated for enhanced electropositivity under acidic conditions. MPUF displayed superior dyeability than CPUF when dyed with C.I. Acid Orange 7 at pH 3.

A tert-Butyldiphenylsilyl-Containing Polyimide-Based Chemosensor for Sequential Detection of Fluoride Ions and Trace Water in Organic Solvents

Yancheng Wu,Manyu Lian,Guotao Huang,Yangfan Zhang,Ningbo Yi,Liyong Tian,Feng Gan,Chunping Ma

Atert-butyldiphenylsilyl-containing polyimide (PI-OSi) has been established as a colorimetric and ratiometric chemosensor for rapid detecting fluoride ions (F−). The UV-vis absorbance ratio value (A322/A288) ofPI-OSiin a DMF solution displays a wide linear range change to F−concentrations with a detection limit (DL) value of 2.13 μM. Additionally, adding incremental amounts of F−to a DMF solution ofPI-OSishows an immediate color change to yellow and finally to green from colorless. More interestingly, the resultingPI-OSiplus F−system (PI-OSi·F) could detect trace water in DMF. The A292/A322value ofPI-OSi·F almost linearly increases with low water content, which suggests convenient quantitative sensing of trace water content in DMF. The DL value ofPI-OSi·F for sensing water in DMF is determined to be 0.00149% (v/v). The solution color ofPI-OSi·F returns to colorless when the water content increases, indicating thatPI-OSi·F can conveniently estimate water content in DMF by naked-eye detection. The detection mechanisms confirmed by an1H NMR study and a DFT calculation involve a F−-induced desilylation reaction ofPI-OSito form phenolate anion followed by protonation with trace water. Finally,PI-OSifilm was fabricated for the colorimetric detection of F−and water in CH3CN.Keywords:tert-butyldiphenylsilyl-containing polyimide;colorimetric and ratiometric chemosensor;fluoride ions;trace water

Rapid microwave-assisted synthesis of copper nanoclusters for “on-off-on” fluorescent sensor of tert-butylhydroquinone in edible oil

JunQiu Zhang,YueHong Pang,XiaoFang Shen

Copper nanoclusters (CuNCs) are attractive alternatives for fluorescent sensor, due to their low toxicity, strong biocompatibility, and inexpensive manufacturing cost. Herein, fluorescent CuNCs was rapidly synthesized in 2.5 min under microwave irradiation using L-cysteine (L-Cys) as the protective and reducing agent, and an “on-off-on” fluorescent sensor for tert-butylhydroquinone (TBHQ) was developed. In the presence of Fe 3+ ions, the fluorescence of L-Cys-CuNCs was quenched (turned off), then recovered after adding TBHQ (turn on). Under the optimized conditions, the TBHQ sensor had a wide linear range (2–350 μmol·L −1 ) and low detection limit (0.077 μg·mL −1 ). Furthermore, the relative standard deviation (RSD) were from 1.44% to 8.98% and the recoveries were from 94.53% to 108.99% for the determination of edible oil samples. Besides, the results detected by fluorescence sensor is in accordance with the results obtained in the traditional HPLC method. The microwave-assisted fast synthesis of CuNCs will expected to develop the fluorescent sensors for food safety and environmental analysis.

Di-tert-butyl peroxide (DTBP)-mediated synthesis of symmetrical N,N′-disubstituted urea/thiourea motifs from isothiocyanates in water

Jinchen Yang,Ling Chen,Yibo Dong,Jinli Zhang,Yangjie Wu

ABATRACTA direct approach to N,N′-disubstituted urea/thiourea from the self-condensation reactions of isothiocyanates in water has been developed. This access tolerated a wide range of functional groups on the aromatic ring, providing a practical and environment-friendly process to N,N′-disubstituted urea/thiourea in moderate to excellent yields from safe and easily available starting materials. A plausible mechanism of the desulfurization self-condensation reaction for urea was also proposed and the role of di-tert-butyl peroxide (DTBP) and copper catalyst in the present strategy was demonstrated with the help of ESI mass spectrometry of intermediate studies.

Nucleation management for the ambient fabrication of high-performance perovskite photodetectors with the eco-friendly tert-butanol anti-solvent

Xin Tang,Tengteng Li,Qingyan Li,Hongliang Zhao,Silei Wang,Mengyao Li,Xuanruo Hao,Yating Zhang,Jianquan Yao

The preparation of most high-performance perovskite optoelectronic devices usually relies on costly inert or vacuum conditions to circumvent the inimical effects of moisture, which could lead to inferior crystallization processes and nonuniform morphology. Hence, it is imperative to develop a reliable and cost-effective approach to deposit a high-quality perovskite in ambient air. Herein, we investigated the influence of tert-butanol (TBA), sec-butanol (SBA), and isobutanol (IBA) on the nucleation mechanism in ambient atmosphere. It was found that TBA as an eco-friendly anti-solvent leads to the formation of uniform, smooth, pinhole-free, mirror-like perovskite films with enhanced optoelectronic properties compared with other solvents. More excitingly, perovskite photodetectors fabricated using TBA exhibited an excellent photoresponsivity of 1.93 A W−1, which is among the highest values reported for the same device structure and also demonstrates the distinctive advantages of our nucleation management strategy. This work sheds light on developing high-performance perovskite photodetectors using eco-friendly solutions in ambient environment.

Experimental and mechanism study of separation of ethanol-ethyl tert-butyl ether with deep eutectic solvents based on molecular simulation

Wenxin Wang,Yu Wang,Wei Lu,Wei Zhao,Zhaoyou Zhu,Peizhe Cui,Xin Li,Xudong Song

The effective separation of ethyl tert -butyl ether (ETBE) and ethanol (EtOH) azeotropes during the production of gasoline additive ETBE has far-reaching significance for resource recovery and sustainable development. This work first proposed using green and sustainable deep eutectic solvents (DESs) to separate ETBE-EtOH efficiently. As an analog of ionic liquids, DESs are environmentally friendly, low-cost, and biodegradable. Based on a method combining quantum chemical calculation, molecular dynamics simulation, and toxicity analysis, the separation performance and mechanism of candidate DESs were explored, and DESs with better separation effects were preliminarily screened out. Using an improved Rose vapor–liquid equilibrium (VLE) reactor, a VLE experiment was carried out on the screened entrainers and the EtOH and ETBE azeotropic system. The experimental results showed that the prepared choline chloride-propylene glycol can achieve better azeotropic separation. This study provides theoretical guidance for the solvent screening of DESs in the extractive distillation separation by combining molecular simulation with experiments.

N-doped biomass-derived carbon dots nanozymes with photo-enhanced activity for dual-mode detection of tert-butylhydroquinone in food

Xiaoqing Song,Xiaoye Wen,Yongfei Huang,Zhefeng Fan

Carbon dots nanozymes were synthesized from fresh garlic and ethylenediamine. • N-CDs showed excellent photo-responsive oxidase-like activity and blue fluorescence. • N-CDs with ethylenediamine doping show higher oxidase activity than undoped CDs. • A smartphone-assisted dual-mode sensing platform was used to detect TBHQ rapidly. Synthesis of highly active carbon dots nanozymes remains challenging. Using fresh garlic and ethylenediamine as precursors, nitrogen-doped carbon dots nanozymes (N-CDs) were fabricated in this study. The N-CDs exhibited light-responsive oxidase-like activity and blue fluorescence. For comparison, the carbon dots (CDs) without ethylenediamine doping demonstrated remarkable catalytic activity. Following doping with ethylenediamine, the maximum reaction rate and specific activity of N-CDs were approximately 1.4 times and 2 times those of CDs, respectively, indicating that nitrogen doping significantly enhanced the catalytic activity. Based on the catalytic performance and fluorescence properties of N-CDs, a dual-mode sensor was constructed for the detection of tert-butylhydroquinone (TBHQ), achieving detection limits of 0.19 μM and 0.05 μM for the colorimetric and fluorescence methods, respectively. Portable on-site detection of TBHQ in real samples was realized by integrating the sensing platform with a smartphone, providing a new strategy for the preparation of high-performance nanozymes. Smartphone-assisted fluorescence sensor based on iron-doped carbon dots for rapid detection of tert-butyl hydroquinone in edible oils

Huihui Yang,Qinghua Liu,Yuanyuan Liu,Qian Su,Yiwei Dong,Minmin Li,Bei Fan,Fengzhong Wang,Long Li

Fe 3+ -regulated on-off-on probe was constructed for TBHQ detection in edible oils. • The probe shows low LOD (0.0067 μM) with good stability (−40 to 100 °C, pH 1–11). • Recovery rates in soybean oil range 98.60%–100.40% (RSD <2.1%). • Smartphone-assisted RGB analysis enables on-site TBHQ quantification via G/R ratio. Given the health risks of tert-butylhydroquinone (TBHQ), rapid, portable, selective, and sensitive quantification in edible oils is critical. With this in mind, a fluorescent “on–off–on” probe was developed based on rationally designed iron-doped carbon dots (CDs). The blue fluorescence of the CDs is quenched by Fe 3+ ions and recovered by TBHQ, enabling Fe 3+ detection in an “on–off” mode and TBHQ detection in an “off–on” mode. The probe exhibited excellent linearity for TBHQ over the range of 0.2–1.8 μM, with a low detection limit of 0.067 μM. Moreover, a smartphone-assisted sensor was constructed to enable portable TBHQ quantification in edible oils samples. This CD-based probe shows strong promise for the rapid, sensitive, and cost-effective monitoring of hazardous substances. Download: Download high-res image (93KB) Download: Download full-size image

A Carbon Nanofiber Electrochemical Sensor Made of FeMn@C for the Rapid Detection of Tert-Butyl Hydroquinone in Edible Oil

Yan Xiao,Yi Zhang,Zhigui He,Liwen Zhang,Tongfei Wang,Tingfan Tang,Jiaxing Chen,Hao Cheng

Overuse of tert-butylhydroquinone (TBHQ) as a food antioxidant has the potential to pollute the environment and threaten human health. Therefore, it is imperative to develop precise and rapid methods to detect TBHQ in food products. In this study, Fe- and Mn-doped Prussian blue analogs (FeMn-PBAs) were prepared by co-precipitation, FeMn-PBAs/PAN was prepared by electrostatic spinning, and a novel FeMn@C/CNFs composite was prepared by carbonization in nitrogen. Bimetallic FeMn doping has been shown to reduce vacancy defects and enhance the structural stability of PBA. Furthermore, electrostatic spinning has been demonstrated to reduce the agglomeration of PBA nanoparticles, which are electrode-modifying materials with high stability and good electrical conductivity. The morphological and structural characteristics of the FeMn@C/CNF composites were examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The electrochemical behavior of tert-butyl hydroquinone in FeMn@C/CNFs was studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), and chronocoulometry (CC). The results demonstrate that the sensor exhibits excellent repeatability, reproducibility, and anti-interference capabilities. The prepared electrochemical sensor can be effectively utilized for the detection of TBHQ in food samples such as soybean and peanut oil samples, proving its strong potential for practical applications.

Fluorometric/colorimetric dual-mode sensor based on silicon quantum dots for rapid and on-site detection of tert-butyl hydroquinone

Yue Huang,Feifan Cheng,Danling Mei,Meichun Chen,Xueqin Zhao,Biao Huang

Tert-butyl hydroquinone (TBHQ) is a synthetic phenolic antioxidant commonly found in food. The overuse of TBHQ poses a potential toxicity to human health, which has attracted significant attention in food safety. In this study, we developed a dual-mode test platform strategy centered on silicon quantum dots (SiQDs) for fluorometric/colorimetric TBHQ detection. The SiQDs with Fe (III) as the fluorescence switch and co-enzyme, were synthesized and characterized, facilitating the catalysis of TBHQ to 2- tert -butyl-1,4-benzoquinone (TBBQ). There was a linear correlation with TBHQ concentration in the range of 5–200 μM, with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.12 μM. Furthermore, with the assistance of 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) as a chromogenic substrate, the nanoprobes exhibited good colorimetric detection performance for TBHQ, with an LOD of 7 μM in the 15–500 μM range. Moreover, smartphone-integrated agarose gel strips were successfully developed for simple TBHQ detection with naked-eyes and the quantitative analysis with a LOD of 15 μM. The fabricated sensors successfully monitored TBHQ levels in spiked edible oil samples with recoveries in the range of 89.05–109.61 % and relative standard deviations (RSDs, %) less than 1.75 %, suggesting applicability for the detection of TBHQ in a complex food matrix.

Wannian Zhao,Lei Xu,Yingcai Ding,Ben Niu,Ping Xie,Zhaogang Bian,Denghong Zhang,Aihua Zhou

Coumarin derivatives are highly valuable compounds in drug discovery. Herein, we have developed two new coupling reactions that involve coumarins and either aldehydes or di- tert -butyl peroxide (DTBP) in the presence of inexpensive copper or iron catalysts. Both of these reactions proceed through a C(sp 2 )–H functionalization process to regioselectivity generate keto- or methyl-substituted coumarin derivatives in moderate to good yields These coupling reactions will enrich current coumarin chemistry. Graphical Two coupling reactions that regioselectively yield either keto- or methyl-substituted coumarin derivatives by proceeding through a C(sp 2 )–H functionalization process were successfully developed. The coupling of coumarins with either aldehydes or di- tert -butyl peroxide (DTBP) generated the corresponding products in moderate to good yields.
