Increasing the carrier concentration as well as carrier life time could be effective ways to increase the photoresponse of a photoconductive type photodetector . In this paper, layer-structure photodetectors have been fabricated by connecting CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 film with and without electron transport layer (SnO 2 and SnO 2 /PCBM bilayer). We found that the electron extraction at the electron transport layer and MAPbI 3 interface will boost the photocurrent and responsivity, and faster electron extraction will result in a higher photocurrent improvement. At the same time, the closer is the distance of the interface to the photogenerated electron-hole pairs, the larger is the photocurrent enhancement. The largest photocurrent increasement is almost 3 times the initial value, which increases from 1.54 μA to 6.10 μA.

How do the synergistic effects work and which dominate the distribution of active sites, that's an interesting question in mang plasmon-enhanced catalysis. Herein, we put a deep insight into the distribution of active sites and the mechanism of charge transfer at the noble metal-metal oxide interface for accelerating the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) kinetics. A heterostructure of Au loaded MoO 2 nanosheets (Au-MoO 2 ) is prepared by the light-reduction method. EXAFS analysis demonstrates the tight coupling at Au-MoO 2 interface through the Au-O bond. An enhanced HER activity is observed with an overpotential decrease of (Δη) 176 mV and Tafel slop down to 52.5 mV/dec. KPFM measurement and FEM simulation verify the high local field enhancement at the junction. This field induces the concentrated surface charge through the Au-O bond. DFT calculation confirms the upraises filling of Op orbital in the Au-O bond, thus degrading the hydrogen adsorption energy level for HER kinetics.

Polymer dielectrics have broad applications in advanced electronics and power systems. However, they suffer from low energy density and poor breakdown performance at high temperatures, limiting their applications in high-temperature environments. Herein, TiO 2 @Au@AlO x @Au nanofibers with double coulomb blockade nanolayers are obtained via a physical sputtering strategy to improve the high-temperature energy storage performance of polyetherimide composites. Experimental studies and finite elemenet phase-field simulations demonstrate that the double-layer coulomb blockade effect and micro-capacitor effect of Au nanoparticles synergistically enhance the breakdown strength and dielectric permittivity of polyetherimide composite at high temperatures. Notably, the composite exhibits ultra-high discharged energy densities of 11.33 and 9.70 J cm −3 at 150 and 200 °C, respectively, along with high charge–discharge efficiencies of 93.4% and 84%, which far exceed that of the polymer nanocomposites reported so far. Furthermore, the composite exhibits excellent charge–discharge cycling performance (>50000 cycles at 400 MV m −1 ) and high-power density (1.16 MW cm −3 ) at 200 °C, making it an ideal candidate for high-temperature capacitors. Hopefully, these nanofibers not only serve as excellent nanofillers for high-temperature energy storage dielectric composites but also holds tremendous potential and inspirational significance for other applications such as electronics, biomedical fields, optics, and catalysis.

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrates hold great potential for rapid food monitoring, but the inability to reconcile high enhancement, uniformity, and stability presents a critical trilemma for substrate design and practical applications. Here, inspired by the hierarchical structure of lychee, we developed an innovative "integrated balanced enhancement-protection" strategy, fabricating a lychee-like Au@Ag/Au nanoarray chip via a simple, uniform oil/water/oil (O/W/O) self-assembly technique. This design mimics the architecture of lychee: the outer Au layer, modeled after lychee’s peel, provides chemical protection; the inner Au@Ag layer, mirroring lychee’s seed and flesh, delivers strong plasmonic enhancement. The unique bilayer nanoarchitecture, featuring dense and vertically coupled plasmonic hotspots, ensures highly efficient electromagnetic (EM) field by Au-Ag synergistic effects. It demonstrates an analytical enhancement factor (AEF) of 2.30 × 10 6 , uniformity with a relative standard deviation (RSD) of 6.55 %, and stability with 93.26 % signal retention over 60 days. When coupled with a universal pretreatment protocol to minimize matrix interference, the platform enables sensitive and reliable quantitative detection of three representative food additives, including potassium sorbate (PS), sodium benzoate (SB), and sodium saccharin (SS) in complex fruit matrices. The limit of detection (LOD) for all analytes was below 75 mg/kg, substantially surpassing the national regulatory standards of China. Importantly, the chip demonstrated high recoveries (86.62–102.49 %) and low RSD (< 9 %) across multiple fruit types. Beyond food safety, this scalable, low-cost approach not only overcomes SERS substrate bottlenecks but also provides a viable field-deployable tool with broader implications for SERS-based analysis.

Noble metal catalysts have received considerable interests owing to their glamorous properties and applications in heterogeneous catalysis . In this work, the magnetic Au nanoparticles catalysts were successful fabricated via sequential preparation strategy at room temperature . 4-nitrophenol was chosen as the model molecule to evaluate the catalytic reduction activity for the preparation of amines from their corresponding nitroaromatics. The results showed that the catalytic reaction related with 4-nitrophenol could be achieved in 3 min, and the catalyst could be easily reused at least 15 cycles without significant reduction in activity when the as-prepared Fe 3 O 4 @CB6@Au 0.4% nanoparticles acted as the catalyst. It revealed that the as-prepared catalyst exhibited outstanding catalytic performance and cycling stability. The SEM and TEM images demonstrated that the Au species presented in composite system in the form of highly dispersed Au 0 nanoparticles, playing a crucial role in the catalytic process. Therefore, the Au nanoparticles combined with Fe 3 O 4 @CB6 prepared by the sequential preparation strategy had excellent catalytic reduction properties for nitroaromatics, and the method could open a new way for the design of other highly dispersed nanometallic materials.

The electrochemiluminescence (ECL) spectral information is useful in ECL mechanism investigations, ratiometric ECL sensors and multi-analyte determinations. To overcome the shortcomings of low sensitivity in charge coupled devices (CCD) ECL spectrometer and low time efficiency for spectrum discrimination by using single band-pass filter (BPF) in one potential scan, a simple and sensitive ECL spectrum measurement platform is developed by placing a portable BPF array turntable device (with eleven measurement channels and one indicator channel) between the working electrode and photomultiplier in a conventional ECL analyzer. The systematic error due to the time dependent ECL intensity, which is the main obstacle for ECL spectrum measurement in wavelength scan mode, is neutralized by using the accumulated intensity for each channel in a group of spectrum measurement cycles. In a spectrum-resolved ratiometric ECL sensor for miroRNA-141 determination, near-infrared ECL emitter of methionine-stabilized Au nanoclusters (Met-Au NCs) is used as the tag and blue ECL emitter of g-C 3 N 4 as the reference. The ratio of the total ECL intensity in near-infrared wavelength region (from Met-Au NCs) to that in blue wavelength region (from g-C 3 N 4 ) is in linear correlation with the logarithmic concentration of microRNA-141 from 1 fM to 10 pM, with the limit of detection of 0.22 fM.

The electrochemical nitrogen (N 2 ) reduction reaction (N 2 RR) under mild conditions is a promising and environmentally friendly alternative to the traditional Haber-Bosch process with high energy consumption and greenhouse emission for the synthesis of ammonia (NH 3 ), but high-yielding production is rendered challenging by the strong nonpolar N≡N bond in N 2 molecules, which hinders their dissociation or activation. In this study, disordered Au nanoclusters anchored on two-dimensional ultrathin Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene nanosheets are explored as highly active and selective electrocatalysts for efficient N 2 -to-NH 3 conversion, exhibiting exceptional activity with an NH 3 yield rate of 88.3±1.7 μg h −1 mg cat. −1 and a faradaic efficiency of 9.3±0.4 %. A combination of in situ near-ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and operando X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy is employed to unveil the uniqueness of this catalyst for N 2 RR. The disordered structure is found to serve as the active site for N 2 chemisorption and activation during the N 2 RR process. Graphical Order from disorder : Au nanoclusters with disordered Au atoms anchored on two-dimensional ultrathin Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene nanosheets are synthesized and prove to be a highly efficient catalyst for the electrochemical synthesis of ammonia. In situ near-ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and operando XAFS spectroscopy are used to investigate the catalyst.

In this study, monolayer titanium carbide (Ti 3 C 2 T x ) material was prepared, then the modified ZnO and Ti 3 C 2 T x were self-assembled to obtain the MXene based composite material. Finally, ZnO/Ti 3 C 2 T x /Nafion/Au electrodes were prepared to construct a dopamine electrochemical sensor for detection of dopamine. SEM, XRD measurements and so on verified the synthesis of monolayer Ti 3 C 2 T x and preparation of the MXene based composite material. Utilizing Chronoamperometry (I-t), we found the electrodes displayed a linear dynamic range from 0.1 to 1200 μM with a limit of detection of 0.076 μM (S/N = 3). Meanwhile, the sensitivity of the sensor is 96nA/μM and in the prepared biological samples, the recoveries of the sensor were 97.8%∼102.2%. Finally, the electrochemical sensor showed a good reproducibility and stability.

This study presents a novel immunochromatographic assay (ICA) leveraging surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) for ultrasensitive pesticide detection. The proposed method utilizes core–shell structured gold nanoparticles (Au@Au NPs) functionalized with antibodies as the SERS substrate, coupled with Raman reporter molecules (MPBN) to generate a robust spectroscopic signal. By exploiting the immunorecognition between target antigens and immobilized antibodies, Raman-tagged Au@Au NPs are captured on the ICA test line, enabling quantitative analysis of lambda-cyhalothrin, and the minimum detection limit in actual samples (green peppers) reached 1.33 ppb. Comparative studies demonstrated that the SERS-ICA method achieved a 103-fold increase in sensitivity compared to the conventional LFA. Validation in complex matrices (grapes, eggplants, and green peppers) yielded recoveries of 92.85–118.25% and relative standard deviations (RSD) of 4.02–16.17%, confirming the method's exceptional specificity, accuracy, and applicability in real-world scenarios. This platform holds significant promise for rapid, on-site monitoring of trace contaminants in food safety and environmental surveillance.

Abstract For an economical use of solar energy, photocatalysts that are sufficiently efficient, stable, and capable of harvesting light are required. Composite heterostructures composed of noble metals and semiconductors exhibited the excellent in catalytic application. Here, 1D Ag/Au/AgCl hollow heterostructures are synthesized by galvanic replacement reaction (GRR) from Ag nanowires (NWs). The catalytic properties of these as-obtained Ag/Au/AgCl hollow heterostructures with different ratios are investigated by reducing 4-nitrophenol (Nip) into 4-aminophenol (Amp) in the presence of NaBH 4 , and the influence of AgCl semiconductor to the catalytic performances of Ag/Au bimetals is also investigated. These hollow heterostructures show the higher catalytic properties than pure Ag NWs, and the AgCl not only act as supporting materials, but the excess AgCl is also the obstacle for contact of Ag/Au bimetals with reactive species. Moreover, the photocatalytic performances of these hollow heterostructures are carried out by degradation of acid orange 7 (AO7) under UV and visible light. These Ag/Au/AgCl hollow heterostructures present the higher photocatalytic activities than pure Ag NWs and commercial TiO 2 (P25), and the Ag/Au bimetals enhance the photocatalytic activity of AgCl semiconductor via the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) and plasmon resonance energy transfer (PRET) mechanisms. The as-synthesized 1D Ag/Au/AgCl hollow heterostructures with multifunction could apply in practical environmental remedy by catalytic manners. Graphical abstract

Photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting is a promising approach to solve the current energy and environmental crises. Herein, we developed a “one stone, two birds” strategy to construct Au@Pt decorated ZnO/CdS heterojunctions (ZCAP) with Au-S bond and surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect for promoted PEC water splitting. The optimized ZCAP structure exhibited the highest photocurrent density of 4.23 mA/cm 2 at 1.23 V vs. RHE and hydrogen evolution rate of 72.3 μmol·cm −2 ·h −1 , which is magnitude higher than pure ZnO. In-depth investigations indicate that SPR effect can afford hot electrons, whereas Au-S bonds over interface act as transmission bridge for facilitated electron transfer, the synergy of them achieves efficient charge separation and light utilization. Meanwhile, surface Pt nanoparticles serve as active sites for rapid charge transfer and promoted surface reaction. This article illustrates that the synergy of SPR and electron transfer bridge is an efficient strategy for promoted PEC performance.

Upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) are promising nanoprobes in DNA/RNA detection, such as respiratory viral RNAs, and siRNA in cancer. However, recent studies have indicated that the sensitivity of UCNP-based biosensors is restricted, ranging from picomolar to femtomolar level. Moreover, most of existing UCNP-based probes are only able to detect short-chain oligonucleotides, which are not suitable for detection of long-chain oligonucleotides in many real applications. In this work, we introduced a new UCNP-based fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) nanoprobe design composed of NaGdF 4 :Yb 3+ , Er 3+ @NaGdF 4 core-shell UCNPs (csUCNPs) linking with Au–Au dimer to detect long-chain oligonucleotides of SARS-CoV-2 N-gene. Compared with typical single gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) in FRET biosensors, our theoretical investigation shows that a stronger electromagnetic field is generated in the Au–Au dimer where the plasmon resonance can enhance FRET efficiency and increase the working distance. Thus, the synergetic effect of plasmonic resonance and FRET enables a greater quenching efficiency (QE) of Au–Au dimer to UCNPs, which leads to more remarkable upconversion luminescence (UCL) recovery for each target gene recognition. Importantly, our design significantly improved the limit of detection (LOD) to attomolar level, with a linear response ranging from 2 aM to 2 fM. Moreover, the clinical detection with inactivated SARS-CoV-2 samples was successfully performed with excellent specificity within 30 min using the developed UCNPs biosensors incorporated with Au–Au dimer. This UCNP biosensor based on Au–Au dimer strategy with ultra-sensitivity and good selectivity opens a new path for clinical diagnosis without target amplification and plays an instructive role in other virus diagnosis.
