As a common filler in polymer electrolytes , Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) has been studied extensively in recent years. In this study, we propose a novel solid composite electrolytes (SCEs) based on PEO/LiTFSI/a-MIL-100 (Fe)/PVDF by using a straightforward solution-casting method. Unactivated and activated MIL-100 (Fe) (a-MIL-100 (Fe)) as the fillers were compared, and the interactions of functional groups of unactivated MIL-100 (Fe) and a-MIL-100 (Fe) with anions of electrolyte salts through Lewis acid-base interaction are studied with density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The influences of different a-MIL-100 (Fe) contents on electrochemical performances were also examined. The Li/SCEs/LiFePO 4 cell displayed high average discharge capacities of 161.8 mAh g −1 , 166.8 mAh g −1 , 158.9 mAh g −1 , 146.2 mAh g −1 and 92.6 mAh g −1 at the rate of 0.1, 0.2, 0.5, 1 and 2 C at 60 ℃, respectively, without liquid electrolytes. This work might provide new insight into the role of activated MOFs fillers in polymer electrolytes.

Imaging-guided therapy has considerable potential in tumor treatment. Different treatments have been integrated to realize combinational tumor therapy with improved therapeutic efficiency. Herein, the conventional metal–organic framework (MOF) MIL-100 is utilized to load curcumin with excellent encapsulation capacity. Polydopamine-modified hyaluronic acid (HA-PDA) is coated on the MIL-100 surface to construct engineering MOF nanoparticles (MCH NPs). The HA-PDA coating not only improves the dispersibility and stability of NPs but also introduces a tumor-targeting ability to this nanosystem. A two-stage augmented photothermal conversion capability is introduced to this nanosystem by encapsulating curcumin in MIL-100 pores and then coating HA-PDA on the surface, which confer the MCH NPs with strong photothermal conversional efficiency. After being intravenously injected into xenograft HeLa tumor-bearing mice, MCH NPs prefer to accumulate at the tumor site and achieve photoacoustic imaging-guided chemo-/photothermal combinational tumor therapy, generating nearly complete tumor ablation. Engineering MOFs is an efficient platform for imaging-guided combinational tumor therapy, as confirmed by in vitro and in vivo evaluations.

A novel colorimetric aptasensor assay based on the excellent magnetic responsiveness and oxidase-like activity of Fe 3 O 4 @MIL-100(Fe) was developed. Fe 3 O 4 @MIL-100(Fe) absorbed with aptamer and blocked by BSA served as capture probe for selective isolation and enrichment of Listeria monocytogenes one of the most common and dangerous foodborne pathogenic bacteria. The aptamer absorbed on Fe 3 O 4 @MIL-100(Fe) was further used as signal probe that specifically binds with target bacteria conjugation of capture probe for colorimetric detection of Listeria monocytogenes , taking advantages of its oxidase-like activity. The linear range of the detection of Listeria monocytogenes was from 10 2 to 10 7 CFU mL −1 , with the limit of detection as low as 14 CFU mL −1 . The approach also showed good feasibility for detection of Listeria monocytogenes in milk and meat samples. The spiked recoveries were in the range 81–114% with relative standard deviations ranging from 1.28 to 5.19%. Thus, this work provides an efficient, convenient, and practical tool for selective isolation and colorimetric detection of Listeria monocytogenes in food. Graphical Abstract

Catalytic tar reforming is a pivotal technology for upgrading syngas quality during sewage sludge gasification. In this study, a series of Ni-modified carbon-based catalysts (x%NiFe/C) were synthesized using MIL-100(Fe) as a precursor to investigate the impact of Ni-loading on the catalytic performance for tar reforming. Detailed characterizations, including XRD, XPS, Raman, and NH 3 -TPD, revealed that the introduction of Ni species significantly tailored the physicochemical properties of the catalysts. Specifically, the 3.3%NiFe/C catalyst exhibited the optimal specific surface area and pore structure, facilitating efficient mass transfer. Characterization results confirmed the formation of Ni-Fe alloy, which not only modulated the surface electronic density to optimize acidity but also enhanced the dispersion of active sites. The interaction between Ni and Fe species effectively promoted the cleavage of C-C and C-H bonds in tar molecules while suppressing carbon deposition. Consequently, the 3.3%NiFe/C catalyst demonstrated superior catalytic activity and stability in the two-stage microwave-assisted gasification reforming process, achieving a syngas yield of 555 mg/g·SS, a tar conversion rate of 82.9%, and an H 2 concentration of 73.8 vol%. After ten cycles, the H 2 yield and concentration remained as high as 28.0 mmol/g·SS and 68.2 vol%, respectively. This work provides mechanistic insights into the design of MOF-derived carbon-supported catalysts for efficient SS gasification.

Building materials with the dual function of temperature and humidity regulation can improve people's living comfort and reduce energy consumption. In this work, a simple and convenient strategy for building a comfortable indoor temperature and humidity environment was proposed. The phase change humidity control material (PCHCM) was prepared by the mixing of form-stable composite phase change material (CPCM) as temperature-control component and hygroscopic MIL-100(Fe) as humidity-control component. In PCHCM, the CPCM was obtained by molten recombination of myristic acid, tetradecanol, and capric acid (MA-TD-CA) as phase change material and hydrophilic fumed silica (SiO 2 ) as porous carrier, and MIL-100(Fe) was synthesized by low-temperature solution method. Thermal analysis indicated that, under the optimized mass ratio of 28.8%MA-61.2%TD-10%CA, the CPCM containing 30 % SiO 2 could effectively prevent the leakage of ternary eutectic , with a suitable phase change temperature and enthalpy (21.74 °C, 96.70 J·g −1 ). The thermal and wet performance evaluation confirmed that the PCHCMs containing 40–50 % CPCM had human body comfortable phase change temperature (26.96–27.26 °C) and high saturation adsorption capacity (0.179–0.205 g/g) at 60 % RH as well as outstanding thermal and wet cycle reliability, indicating the novel MA-TD-CA/SiO 2 /MIL-100(Fe) PCHCM has broad application potential in room temperature and humidity control and building energy conservation .

Concerns about food safety have been arisen due to the improper use of chemicals in aquaculture. Malachite green (MG) has attracted attention because of its illegal usage and its potential negative impacts on the environment and public health. Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) platforms coupled with different SERS substrates have been employed for rapid analysis of MG residues in food. However, the most commonly used SERS substrates were non-reusable and showed limited detection sensitivity. In this study, a novel SERS substrate with a good recyclability and a high sensitivity was prepared by electrostatically assembling together a metal–organic framework material called materials of institute lavoisie-100(Fe) (MIL-100(Fe)) and Au NPs. The lowest detectable concentration of MG was 10 −13 M based on the optimal substrate. The SERS sensor was applied for the detection of the trace MG in fish pond water, which was accomplished with the correlation coefficients R 2 = 0.991–0.996 in a concentration range of 10 −6 –10 −13 M. Moreover, MIL-100(Fe)/Au was recycled at least five times, realizing a “detection to degradation”, showing great potential for food contamination monitoring due to its distinguished performance.

In this study, a facile strategy of regulated self-assembly synthesis of Mn-MIL-100, using sodium acetate (CH3COONa) as a mono-dentate ligand capping agent (CA), was proposed. The as-prepared product is denoted Mn-MIL-100-CA. The coordination modulation of CH3COONa, led by its interference in the connectivity and symmetry of the metal centers and organic nodes, plays a vital role in the synthesis process. The crystallinity, morphology, topology, and properties of such MOF products were improved, since the self-assembly process of Mn-MIL-100-CA was promoted and regulated effectively. The materials were systematically characterized via XRD, SEM, N2isotherms, XPS, and TGA in terms of crystallization behavior, morphology, topology, chemical composition, and thermal and water stability. The ability of Mn-MIL-100 and Mn-MIL-100-CA to remove methylene blue (MB) from an aqueous solution was investigated using a UV–vis spectrophotometer. The results indicate that with the addition of a molar ratio of 50% CH3COONa, Mn-MIL-100-CA particles developed a regularly symmetrical morphology, i.e., ‘spherical pyramid-like structure’ crystals with a dimension of 2~5 μm. Their specific surface area and pore volume increased by 59.2% and 56.7%, respectively. The increased proportion of Mn3+implies reduced crystal defects and improved crystal structural order and integrity, and therefore an enhanced water stability. Mn-MIL-100-CA exhibited excellent adsorption performance towards MB from aqueous solution. The equilibrium adsorption value was as high as 1079.9 mg/g, which is 44.7% higher than that of Mn-MIL-100 without the addition of CA. The good adsorption capacity and excellent water stability mean that Mn-MIL-100-CA has great potential for the practical removal of MB dye pollutants from water. Keywords:metal organic frameworks;Mn-MIL-100;capping agent;symmetry;self-assembly;methylene blue adsorption

A novel multifunctional Janus magnetic micromotor was designed and constructed by using MIL-100(Fe)@TiO2@Fe3O4 multicore–shells modified with horseradish peroxidase (HRP) as a smart active platform to realize detection and degradation of hydroquinone (HQ). The obtained micromotor showed a unique three-dimensional (3D) hierarchical architecture with highly exposed active sites and could autonomously move at a speed of 140 ± 7.0 μm·s–1 by O2 bubbles generated from the catalytic decomposition of H2O2 fuel. Benefiting from the combination of active self-propulsive motion, high peroxidase-like activity, tuned heterojunctions with matching band structures, and a 3D hierarchical structure, an effective platform involving dynamically sensitive detection and quick removal of HQ from water was established by using the multifunctional HRP-integrated MIL-100(Fe)@TiO2@Fe3O4 Janus micromotor. The proposed multifunctional Janus magnetic micromotor had advantages of simple and feasible fabrication, sensitive detection and effective photo-Fenton degradation of HQ in a wide pH range of 4–7, and magnetic recycling, revealing potential for environmental remediation applications.

The release and dispersion of uranium during mining activities and fuel/waste management processes in nuclear power plants pose serious environmental risks, particularly in aqueous systems. In such environments, uranium exhibits high solubility and strong mobility, leading to severe radioactive contamination of groundwater, soil, and ecosystems. Therefore, remediating uranium-contaminated environments remains a significant scientific and technological challenge. To address this issue, the present study exploits the high specific surface area and tunable pore architectures/functional sites of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Using a controlled synthesis strategy, a core-shell (Fe-Ni) galvanic cell structure was constructed and integrated with MIL-100(Fe) to fabricate the Ni-Fe-MIL-100(Fe) composite, enabling highly efficient and synergistic removal of U(VI) via an “adsorption-reduction-complexation” mechanism. Experimental results demonstrate that the maximum uranium uptake capacity reached 3038.19 mg·g −1 at 303 K and pH = 5, with a significantly enhanced removal efficiency. The kinetic analysis indicates that the uranium adsorption process is well described by the pseudo-second-order model. Combined with density functional theory (DFT) calculations, the electronic transfer channels of the structure were elucidated, revealing that they drive the reduction of U(VI) and facilitate its coordination and immobilization at multi-metal and oxygen-containing sites. These findings confirm that U(VI) removal by the composite material proceeds via a coupled chemical reduction and complexation process, thereby clarifying the underlying adsorption mechanism. Moreover, in mixed-ion solutions and real seawater, the composite maintains high adsorption capacity and excellent selectivity, demonstrating strong potential for uranium immobilization and recovery in the remediation of radioactive wastewater.

MIL-100(Fe) was successfully synthesized at room temperature and incorporated in bilayer film matrix. • MOFs and betalain generate molecular interactions within the film matrix as a filler. • Active films exhibited strong barrier, antioxidant and antibacterial properties. • These films prolonged the shelf life of beef and can be used for beef freshness monitoring. • This study offers novel insights into the development of active, smart food packaging. Meat is prone to microbial spoilage and faces significant risks from foodborne illnesses. This study introduces an innovative approach utilizing metallic organic frameworks (MOFs) as antibacterial agents and beetroot extract (BTE) for pH sensitivity to address existing challenges. Furthermore, this study utilized tri-polymeric concept via protein-polysaccharide combination, which includes sodium alginate to stabilize betalain, and gelatin and chitosan to give strong mechanical properties. The MOFs were synthesized using green synthesis, confirmed through structural and multispectral analysis. Betalain extracted from beetroot was incorporated into these tri-polymeric films. The developed films demonstrated excellent antioxidant and antibacterial properties. Furthermore, the pH sensitivity of betalain renders these films suitable for use as biosensors, with the quality stage of beef successfully assessed. Moreover, the films exhibited strong UV, water, and oxygen barrier properties. Atomic force microscopy revealed differences in surface morphology, with a uniform distribution, and films showed high mechanical strength. Concurrently, the addition of MOFs and BTE extract potentially extended the shelf life of beef by up to three days compared to control tri-polymeric films. These multifunctional films present new strategies employing novel antibacterial materials and tri-polymeric combinations which can efficiently preserve beef quality, while BTE indicates spoilage in real time. The widespread use of chlortetracycline hydrochloride (CTC) inevitably poses a potential threat to human health and the biological system, and its environmental pollution and ecotoxicological effects cannot be ignored. Herein, we adopted an in-situ growth method to immobilize the powder form of MIL-100(Fe) adsorbent into low-cost chitosan (CS) matrix for the CTC removal. Metal hydroxide (or metal oxide)/CS beads from the acid-dissolved/alkali-solidified self-sphering shaping method were employed as the substrates for MIL-100(Fe) immobilization, allowing it grow uniformly and stably. Notably, this strategy not only reduced the loss in the separation and regeneration process of powdery MIL-100(Fe), but also improved the adsorption capacity of the CS. Isotherm and kinetic studies showed that the Freundlich and PSO models can describe the experimental data better, respectively, and the maximum adsorption capacity of Langmuir can reach 578.03 mg g −1 . Further, the performance of MIL-100@CS-2 composite beads was thoroughly explored by batch experiments and response surface methodology (RSM) to obtain the optimized operating conditions with the highest CTC removal rate. By combining the density functional theory (DFT) calculation with experimental analysis, the adsorption mechanisms of pore filling, hydrogen bonding , electrostatic interaction , π-π EDA interaction, and hydrophilic interaction were proposed. This work provides a reliable basis for the development of shaping adsorbents and has potential application prospects in the treatment of wastewater containing antibiotics.

Tailor-made highly permeable and selective polyamide (PA) nanofiltration (NF) membranes are imperative for diverse aqueous applications such as seawater desalination, brine softening and wastewater treatment. Here we report a high-performance PA NF membrane having a 2D MIL-100 (Fe) nanoflakes intermediate layer with tortuous mass transfer channels and dense PA barrier layer with ultrathin thickness (25.7 nm) and wrinkled structure. The MIL-100 (Fe) nanosheets interlayer was deposited onto the support and then the interfacial polymerization (IP) reaction occurred on MIL-100 (Fe) interlayer. The MIL-100 (Fe) nanosheets interlayer affected the IP reaction by influencing the diamine monomers storage and diffusion behavior during IP procedure. By only altering the MIL-100 (Fe) nanosheets deposition amounts and monomers concentrations for IP, a series of PA nanofilms with governable membranes structures and crosslinking degree could be formed. The best-performing TFC NF membrane (PA_MIL_1.0) with improved separation performance demonstrated fascinating water permeance of 16.1 L m −2 h −1 bar −1 with greater salts selectivity (99.1 % and 97.8 % for Na 2 SO 4 and MgSO 4 , separately), about twice folds than the pristine PA membrane (8.1 L m −2 h −1 bar −1 ). This work displays an innovative method for the establishment of high-performance TFC NF membrane and deciphers new insights into the mechanisms of how the 2D nanoflakes interlayer dominate IP procedure and affect the ions sieving performance.
