Glyphosate has received a great deal of attention due to its persistence in the environment and its potential carcinogenicity. Traditional Fenton catalytic methods for glyphosate removal are often hindered by the aggregation and passivation of catalysts, and the formation of toxic intermediates, such as aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA). In this study, a synergistic heterojunction comprising nano-zero-valent copper (nZVC) and CeO x was engineered on a biochar (BC) interface (nZVC/CeO x @BC) to investigate the behavior and mechanism of glyphosate degradation. The results showed that glyphosate removal reached 96.9% within 20 min, and complete degradation was achieved within 60 min in the nZVC/CeO x @BC/H 2 O 2 system. Importantly, the catalyst could be used in a pH range of 2–10, and the degradation efficiency of this catalyst remained above 95% even after six cycles. DFT calculations and experimental results revealed that the heterostructure facilitates interfacial electron transfer through the formation of electron bridges and the reversible Ce(III)/Ce(IV) redox couple. This enhanced electron-transfer pathway promoted the continuous activation of H 2 O 2 and generation of reactive oxygen species, thereby accelerating the oxidation and degradation of glyphosate while suppressing active-site deactivation and improving catalyst stability. Moreover, the degradation pathway was diverted towards the formation of the environmentally benign compound glycine (70.95 μM, conversion rate ≈ 60%), thus suppressing the formation of AMPA (0.18 μM, conversion rate ≈ 0.15%). This study highlights the crucial role of interfacial electron-transfer-enhanced heterojunctions in regulating glyphosate degradation pathways and provides an effective strategy for efficient glyphosate degradation.

A novel fluorescent probe for Cu 2+ determination based on the fluorescence quenching of glyphosate (Glyp)-functionalized quantum dots (QDs) was firstly reported. Glyp had been used to modify the surface of QDs to form Glyp-functionalized QDs following the capping of thioglycolic acid on the core–shell CdTe/CdS QDs. Under the optimal conditions, the response was linearly proportional to the concentration of Cu 2+ between 2.4 × 10 −2 μg mL −1 and 28 μg mL −1 , with a detection limit of 1.3 × 10 −3 μg mL −1 (3 δ ). The Glyp-functionalized QDs fluorescent probe offers good sensitivity and selectivity for detecting Cu 2+ . The fluorescent probe was successfully used for the determination of Cu 2+ in environmental samples. The mechanism of reaction was also discussed.

This study investigated LDHs-MgAl preparation factors on Gly adsorption performance. The single-factor experiments shown that CO 3 2− -type LDHs-400-MgAl prepared under the condition of calcination temperature of 400 °C, calcination time of 3 h, Mg/Al molar ratio of 2:1, synthesis pH of 10, preparation temperature of 30 °C and aging temperature of 25 °C, had better Gly adsorption performance due to its enhanced crystallinity and hierarchical porosity. Moreover, the Gly adsorption process optimization with LDHs-400-MgAl via the response surface methodology (RSM) was studied. The relative error between the actual value and the predicted value obtained from the RSM model is 0.39 % and the determination coefficient (R 2 ) is 0.9987, which means the Gly adsorption process with LDHs-400-MgAl can be predicted by the proposed RSM model. This work integrates material synthesis optimization with process engineering, offering a scalable strategy for Gly removal in complex wastewater matrices.

The increasing persistence of harmful ions and pesticide residues has been a matter of concern due to their pernicious and ubiquitous impact on environmental processes. Herein, we design a ratiometric fluorescent platform for the cascade identification of Cu 2+ and glyphosate, which is devised by grafting rhodamine 6G onto F, N-doped carbon dots (F, N-CDs@Rh6G). The formation of F, N-CDs@Rh6G/Cu 2+ chelation complex induces fluorescence quenching at 438 nm, attributed to static complex formation and photoinduced energy transfer. Subsequently, the introduction of glyphosate reverses the binding priority of the chelated complex and results in the recovery of fluorescence signal at 438 nm, while the reference peak (558 nm) remains relatively stable. Under optimal conditions, the fluorescent probe exhibits the low detection limits (LODs) for Cu 2+ (61 nM) and glyphosate (53 nM). Additionally, a portable microcavity sensing platform combining with smartphone is devised for visual and on-site quantification of Cu 2+ and glyphosate with the exceptional LODs. Therefore, this newly microcavity with F, N-CDs@Rh6G provides a reliable cascade sensing platform for Cu 2+ and glyphosate determination, showcasing potential applications.

The extensive utilization of glyphosate (Gly) leads to food contamination that poses the potential threat to human health. Therefore, it is urgent need to develop high-sensitivity methods for Gly detection. Herein, a dual-lanthanide metal-organic framework (Ln-MOF) integrating electrospinning nanofiber membrane was fabricated via in-situ growth strategy for the ratiometric fluorescence sensing of Gly. This strategy equips the sensor with a porous structure, which is beneficial for the pre-concentration of low-concentration analytes. The binding of Gly and Tb 3+ weakened the ligand-to-metal energy transfer, leading to the luminescence decrease of Tb-MOF. Meanwhile, the luminescence of Eu-MOF remained unchanged due to the small channel, resulting in a ratiometric response. The sensor exhibited a good linearity in the concentration range of 0.1–20 μM with a detection limit of 32 nM, and achieved satisfactory performances in food detection. Collectively, the proposed sensor may provide a new inspiration and have great potential for practical applications.

A covalently coupled CdTe/NH₂-UiO-66(Eu) ratiometric probe was developed. • Adsorption experiments and IGM analysis indicated rapid glyphosate uptake mediated by multiple interfacial interactions. • Glyphosate enhanced blue emission and weakened green emission for ratiometric readout. • Lifetime, XPS, and TD-DFT analyses provided mechanistic insights into the fluorescence response. Rapid detection and effective adsorptive capture of glyphosate from water are important for aquatic environmental monitoring and agricultural product safety. To address the susceptibility of single-emission fluorescence signals to external fluctuations and the limited glyphosate-capture capability of conventional fluorescent probes, a dual-emission platform integrating glyphosate adsorption with ratiometric fluorescence detection was constructed through the covalent interfacial assembly of Eu 3+ -modified NH 2 -UiO-66 and mercaptopropionic acid-modified CdTe QDs. Adsorption experiments and independent gradient model (IGM) analysis indicated that the composite exhibited rapid glyphosate uptake mediated by multiple interfacial interactions. In the presence of glyphosate, CdTe/NH 2 -UiO-66(Eu) exhibits enhanced blue emission at 434 nm and weakened green emission at 524 nm, producing a pronounced I 434 /I 524 ratiometric response. The fluorescence intensity ratio shows a linear dependence on glyphosate concentration over the range of 0.5–80 μM, with a limit of detection of 0.217 μM. Based on fluorescence lifetime results and XPS analysis, the ratiometric fluorescence response mechanism of the probe was elucidated. TD-DFT calculations further suggested that glyphosate modifies the excited-state charge distribution and charge-transfer characteristics associated with the MOF component. This work provides an interfacial assembly strategy for constructing MOF-based platforms that combine adsorptive glyphosate capture with ratiometric fluorescence sensing. The detection of glyphosate (Glyp) in water is of increasing importance because of its potential danger to environmental and health. In this study, a simple and label free colorimetric method for Glyp detection is proposed based on the inhibition of peroxidase-like activity of Cu 2+ . Cu 2+ possesses the peroxidase-like activity that could catalyze the oxidation of 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to oxidized TMB (oxTMB) in the presence of H 2 O 2 , resulting in a color change of the solution. However, the peroxidase-like activity of Cu 2+ could be strongly hindered by Glyp due to the formation of Glyp–Cu 2+ complexes. The color change of the solution or the absorbance change of oxTMB is utilized to monitor the concentration of Glyp. The linear range of the proposed method is 2–200 μM and the detection limit is 1 μM. Furthermore, as low as 10 μM Glyp can be clearly distinguished by naked eyes. Also, this proposed method is successfully applied for screening Glyp in real samples and shows great promise for environmental monitoring owing to its simplicity, rapidness and high selectivity.

Glyphosate is a non-selective herbicide widely used in agriculture, and its overexposure poses significant health and environmental risks. Herein, a novel Cu 2+ -coordinated fluorescent sensing system (HYBC-Cu 2+ system) based on acylhydrazone groups was designed, capable of glyphosate-specific recognition. The HYBC-Cu 2+ system was constructed with simple steps, with the advantages of short recognition time (< 1 min), good specificity, anti-interference, and excellent sensitivity (LOD = 95 nM). The effect of proton functional group on glyphosate resulted in Cu 2+ of the HYBC-Cu 2+ system being able to be competed down by the glyphosate to release HYBC thus inducing the fluorescence enhancement of the system and realizing the rapid detection of glyphosate. The recognition mechanism by the HYBC-Cu 2+ system was verified by high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS), density function theory (DFT) calculations and Job's Plot. The system can cycle alternately to detect the glyphosate more than 6 times and effectively quantify trace glyphosate in environmental samples. Furthermore, the HYBC-Cu 2+ system has low cytotoxicity and good membrane permeability, which can enter HeLa cells and zebrafish to react rapidly with exogenous glyphosate, resulting in fluorescence enhancements that are visually distinctive. The application of HYBC-Cu 2+ system can further promote the development of pesticide residue monitoring methods such as glyphosate and provide scientific basis for policy making and public health protection.

As one of the most extensively applied herbicides globally, glyphosate (GLY) is frequently detected in food and water matrices, raising substantial concerns regarding its potential harm to human health. Addressing this challenge calls for analytical platforms that offer both reliable performance and operational convenience. In this work, a GLY-responsive nanoenzyme was developed by hybridizing Zr-based metal–organic frameworks (Zr-MOF) with manganese dioxide (MnO 2 ). The system capitalizes on the strong chelation between GLY and metal centers, which destabilizes the nanozyme structure and consequently modulates its catalytic activity toward colorimetric readout. The resulting composite enables precise quantification of GLY in solution and can be readily incorporated into paper substrates to support visual, user-friendly sensing. In solution format, the assay achieves a linear response over 0.001–10 mg/mL with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.9 μg/mL, whereas the paper-based counterpart operates within 0.05–20 mg/mL and affords an LOD of 0.03 mg/mL, making it well-suited for cost-effective field applications. Both detection formats were validated using GLY-spiked fruit and water samples. Recovery rates fell between 90.5% and 110% for the solution-based method, and between 95.3% and 105% for the paper-based strips, with relative standard deviations (RSDs) of less than 15% and 7%, respectively, indicating satisfactory accuracy and reproducibility. Overall, this work presents a versatile strategy that bridges high analytical precision with straightforward operation, meeting the demands of both routine monitoring and point-of-use testing by non-professionals.

In this study, a green adsorbent (Fe 3 O 4 -UiO-66-NH 2 ) with the ability of addressing the issues of separation and recovery of UiO-66-NH 2 is obtained using a simple co-precipitation method under environmentally benign conditions. Various characterization techniques are utilized for evaluating the properties of the developed adsorbent. The capability of Fe 3 O 4 -UiO-66-NH 2 towards 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) and glyphosate (GP) from solution is explored. The results revealed that the magnetization process did not destroy the crystal structure of UiO-66-NH 2 , which ensured that Fe 3 O 4 -UiO-66-NH 2 had good adsorption performance for 2,4-D and GP. The adsorption processes showed a wide pH application range, high salt tolerance, and regeneration performance as well as an excellent adsorption rate. Results from thermodynamic study showed that both processes were spontaneous and endothermic. The unit uptake ability of Fe 3 O 4 -UiO-66-NH 2 for 2,4-D and GP reached up to 249 mg·g −1 and 183 mg·g −1 from Langmuir model at 303 K, respectively. When solid–liquid ratio was 2 g·L −1 , Fe 3 O 4 -UiO-66-NH 2 can reduce the content of 2,4-D or GP with the initial density of 100 mg·L −1 below the drinking water requirement limit. In addition, the reusability efficiency of Fe 3 O 4 -UiO-66-NH 2 towards 2,4-D and GP was found to be 86% and 80% using 5 mmol·L −1 NaOH as eluent. Analysis of simulated water samples indicated that Fe 3 O 4 -UiO-66-NH 2 could achieve the single or simultaneous removal of 2,4-D and GP from wastewater. Summarily, Fe 3 O 4 -UiO-66-NH 2 as a green adsorbent can serve as an alternative for removing 2,4-D and GP from water body.

The quantitative analysis of glyphosate has significant implications for the evaluation of food quality and environmental safety risks. First, copper nanoparticles (Cu NPs) were synthesized using cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as a stabilizing agent, which resolved the limitation associated with atmospheric oxidation of Cu NPs and provided excellent fluorescence stability. Interestingly, the fluorescence of blue-emitting CTAB-Cu NPs was quenched by pH-responsive p-nitrophenol (p-NP) via Förster resonance energy transfer. Herein, a dual read-out sensor based on CTAB-Cu NPs and p-NP was constructed for glyphosate detection. Specifically, acetic acid (HAc) from acetylcholine (ACh) via hydrolysis catalyzed by acetyl cholinesterase (AChE) reduced the pH of the mixed solution and prevented the loss of protons from p-NP, which allowed the fluorescence emission by CTAB-Cu NPs. The presence of glyphosate inhibited the activity of AChE, and the increased pH resulted in proton loss. The fluorescence intensity of CTAB-Cu NPs was quenched, and the solution color changed from colorless to yellow with a UV absorption peak at 400 nm. The sensor can detect ultra-trace levels of glyphosate residues with a limit of detection of 5.43 ng/L. The obtained biosensor was successfully utilized to monitor the degradation of glyphosate in the roots of cabbage and cultivated soil.

Ultrasensitive, reliable and prompt pre-warning of pesticide residue is critically significant to ensure environmental and food safety. Herein, a novel nanosensor fabricated by in situ encapsulating N -doped carbon dots into a porphyrin metal–organic framework was developed to ratiometric fluorescence (RF) and smartphone-integrated portable platform colorimetric dual-mode detection of glyphosate (GLP). The sensor responded to GLP by RF in the range of 0.01–6.67 mg/L with low limit of detection of 9.06 µg/L. Besides, a noticeable color evolution from pink purple to green under nature light was observed upon addition of GLP, thus a portable smartphone-integrated colorimetric platform was fabricated for visual colorimetric detecting GLP by incorporating the sensor with a smartphone and a 3D-printed mini-device. Interestingly, the platform can detect GLP merely by virtue of a built-in flashlight of the smartphone and Color Analyser Application. Additionally, desirable recoveries of 94.0–112.5 % and 90.0–113.6 % in spiked real samples were respectively obtained for RF and colorimetric channel. Furthermore, a one-to-one colorimetric logic gate (RGB vs GLP concentrations) offered the possibility of intelligent monitoring of GLP. Summarily, the versatile sensor satisfied laboratory instrumental analysis and was further integrated as a smartphone-assisted platform to furnish a novel tactic for quick GLP monitoring, particularly for resource-constrained settings.
