In-situ construction of a Type-I Bi 2 MoO 6 /Bi 2 O 2 CO 3 heterojunction via temperature-mediated topotactic transformation. • Optimized BCM-2 achieved near-complete synergistic removal of RhB and Cr(VI) within 90 min, outperforming individual components. • Unveiled an anomalous charge-transfer mechanism circumventing intrinsic limitations of conventional Type-I heterojunctions. The simultaneous elimination of recalcitrant organic pollutants and toxic heavy metals from industrial effluents demands photocatalytic platforms with synergistic redox capabilities. Herein, we report a topotactic phase-transformation strategy that exploits BiOCOOH nanosheets as a sacrificial topographic template to construct an atomically coherent Bi 2 MoO 6 /Bi 2 O 2 CO 3 (BCM) heterojunction through precision hydrothermal temperature modulation (160 °C). Unlike conventional exogenous deposition routes that generate mechanically contacted, defect-laden interfaces, the thermally driven in-situ nucleation of Bi 2 O 2 CO 3 from the [Bi 2 O 2 ] 2+ structural units of BiOCOOH promoted by DMF-derived carbonate species, ensures lattice-commensurate phase boundaries with negligible interfacial defects, as confirmed by HRTEM-resolved interplanar spacings of 0.196 nm and 0.338 nm across a continuous interface. Despite a nominal Type-I (straddling-gap) band alignment, the BCM-2 composite harbors a pronounced internal electric field (IEF) established by spontaneous interfacial charge redistribution (from Bi 2 O 2 CO 3 to Bi 2 MoO 6 ), supported by XPS binding energy shifts (Bi 4f: +0.2 eV; Mo 3d: −0.1 eV). This IEF induces asymmetric band bending that deviates from conventional Type-I carrier co-localization, spatially directing photogenerated electrons to the strong-reduction-potential conduction band of Bi 2 O 2 CO 3 (−0.61 eV vs. NHE) and holes to the oxidizing valence band of Bi 2 MoO 6 (1.80 eV vs. NHE), a charge-transfer topology mechanistically analogous to the step-scheme (S-scheme) mechanism. Radical trapping and ESR experiments confirm ⋅ O 2 − and h + as the dominant reactive species, fully consistent with this carrier-separation model. The synergy of electrostatic Cr(VI) pre-concentration on the positively charged Bi 2 O 2 CO 3 surface and IEF-mediated efficient carrier separation delivers 100% degradation of Rhodamine B (20 mg/L) and 93.19% reduction of Cr(VI) (30 mg/L) within 60 min under visible-light irradiation (λ > 420 nm, 300 mW cm −2 ), far surpassing the physically mixed counterpart. Exceptional recyclability over four cycles with negligible activity loss further underscores the structural robustness of the topotactic interface. This work demonstrates the potential of topotactic phase transformation as a strategy for controlling heterojunction interfaces through local structural inheritance and promoting S-scheme-like charge-transfer behavior for photocatalytic environmental remediation. Marbofloxacin (MAR) residues in aquatic environments present a significant threat to both ecological systems and human health. This study presents a novel nanocomposite for the detection of trace MAR, integrating bismuth molybdate (Bi 2 MoO 6 ) with environmentally friendly and cost-effective nitrogen-doped porous biomass carbon (NC), which exhibits high catalytic activity. The NC, derived from waste coconut shells, possesses a high BET specific surface area of 842.72 m 2 g -1 , offering a hierarchical pore structure for efficient adsorption and electron transport. Bi 2 MoO 6 microspheres are uniformly anchored to the NC porous framework, resulting in a collaborative sensing interface characterized by “adsorption–enrichment–catalysis”. In this configuration, NC facilitates rapid electron transport and concentrates target molecules, while Bi 2 MoO 6 offers abundant catalytic sites. The resulting Bi 2 MoO 6 /NC/GCE sensor demonstrates outstanding performance for MAR detection, with a linear range of 0.03–10 µM, a sensitivity of 7.958 µA µM -1 , and a detection limit of 0.0045 µM. Additionally, the sensor exhibits high selectivity, good reproducibility, and stability, successfully detecting trace levels of MAR in tap water and milk, with recoveries ranging from 96.0% to 100.6%. The use of waste coconut shell-derived porous carbon as a renewable precursor, the aqueous-phase synthesis of the Bi 2 MoO 6 /NC composite, and the avoidance of toxic organic solvents in the electrode preparation and detection process collectively contribute to the green and sustainable nature of the method. This study offers an efficient and environmentally friendly approach for the rapid and reliable detection of trace antibiotics in complex matrices. Bi 2 MoO 6 , a Bi-based semiconductor catalyst, exhibits effective degradation of organic pollutants. Nevertheless, its photocatalytic performance is constrained by several limitations, such as inadequate sunlight absorption, poor charge mobility, and fast charge carrier recombination upon photoexcitation. In this research, we successfully synthesized a Bi 2 MoO 6 composite modified with carbon quantum dots (CQDs), which demonstrates a significant improvement in photocatalytic performance. A series of characterizations and photocatalytic experiments were performed on the synthesized CQDs/Bi 2 MoO 6 samples. Degradation experiments revealed that under simulated sunlight, the CQDs/Bi 2 MoO 6 composite achieved a 95 % degradation rate for Rhodamine B (RhB) within 70 min, with a kinetic constant of 0.03994 min −1 . In comparison, the undoped Bi 2 MoO 6 sample degraded only 46 % of RhB under the same conditions, exhibiting a kinetic constant of 0.00658 min −1 . The primary reactive species, ·O 2 − and h + , were unequivocally identified through combined ESR spectroscopy and radical scavenging experiments as the drivers of pollutant degradation. Furthermore, after four consecutive reaction cycles, the catalyst maintained 90.05 % of its initial activity, confirming its high stability. In summary, this study successfully developed a CQDs-doped Bi 2 MoO 6 composite photocatalyst, offering a promising strategy for advancing photocatalysis research.

α-Lactalbumin (α-La), a major allergenic protein in milk, requires ultrasensitive detection to address food safety concerns and mitigate allergic risks. This study introduces a novel label-free photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptamer sensor for α-La detection in dairy products, utilizing a Bi 2 MoO 6 /BiOBr heterojunction substrate sensitized with in-situ synthesized Ag 2 S quantum dots (QDs). The heterojunction platform enhances visible-light absorption and photocurrent generation, while the in-situ Ag 2 S QDs optimizes interfacial charge transfer and surface reactivity. Systematic optimization of experimental parameters such as heterojunction composition, pH, ascorbic acid (AA) concentration, and Ag 2 S QDs conditions enabled precise tuning of the sensor’s performance. The aptamer-functionalized electrode selectively recognized α-La through specific binding interactions, with photocurrent signal attenuation proportional to α-La concentration. The sensor demonstrated a linear response from 0.005 to 50 ng/mL, described by the equation I (μA) = 56.81 − 9.796 lg c , ( R 2 = 0.9934), and achieved an ultralow detection limit of 0.106 pg/mL, surpassing existing methods. The sensor exhibited remarkable stability, reproducibility, and selectivity in complex milk matrices, underscoring its practical utility. This work advances PEC sensing by rationally combining heterojunctions and QDs, providing a robust platform for allergen monitoring in food safety applications.

The photothermal-catalyzed CO 2 reduction is severely limited by the low carrier transport capacity. In this paper, the in-situ construction of 0D/2D Bi 2 MoO 6 (BMO)/reduced Graphene Oxide (rGO) heterojunction was synthesized. The excellent photothermal conversion ability of rGO promotes the high dispersion of BMO quantum dots (QDs). The size of synthesized BMO QDs is about 4.26 nm and the temperature of the catalysts can quickly rise to 68.0 °C. XPS results show that the C–O–Bi interfacial electronic bridge between surface oxygen-containing groups and BMO QDs was successfully induced by modulating the degree of GO reduction. Electrons generated by BMO QDs migrate to the rGO surface rapidly, inducing rGO as a new electron-rich surface for rapid activation of CO 2 . The 1:5 BMO/rGO (NaBH 4 ) CO yield reaches 186.87 μmol/g, which is 4.64 times as much as BMO QDs.

Novel oxygen-vacancy-rich hierarchical Bi2MoO6@Bi2O3 core–shell fibers were prepared by the in situ growth of Bi2MoO6 nanosheets on Bi2O3 nanofibers via an electrospinning–calcination–solvothermal method. The in situ growth contributed to the formation of an intimate interface between Bi2MoO6 nanosheets and Bi2O3 nanofibers, thereby constructing an efficient 1D/2D heterojunction and obtaining a 3D hierarchical structure at the same time. More importantly, the growth of Bi2MoO6 nanosheets on Bi2O3 yielded superficial oxygen vacancies. Such a special morphology and defect structure could not only increase the light harvesting, but also promote the separation of photo-induced electrons and holes through a Z-scheme charge transfer mechanism. Therefore, the Bi2MoO6@Bi2O3 composite photocatalyst showed excellent photocatalytic performance under weak visible-light illumination, thus exhibiting potential for application in the degradation of antibiotics. This promising Bi2MoO6@Bi2O3 photocatalyst had a superior photocatalytic degradation rate of 96.3% for TC under 5 W LED visible-light irradiation for 3 hours, which was 6.0 and 4.9 times higher than those of pristine Bi2O3 and Bi2MoO6, respectively. Moreover, two main possible photocatalytic degradation pathways for TC over the Bi2MoO6@Bi2O3 photocatalyst were also proposed.

A facile, efficient, precise and reliable method based on liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) was established to separate and determine two typical quinolone antibiotics (ofloxacin and lomefloxacin) and two typical sulfonamide antibiotics (sulfadimeisoxazole and sulfadimidine). The photocatalytic degradation effects, identification of intermediate products and decomposition pathways of these four antibiotics degraded by Bi 2 MoO 6 /Bi 2 WO 6 /MWCNTs composite catalyst were analyzed using the developed HPLC-MS/MS method. It was found that all four antibiotics can be synchronously decomposed with the ultrahigh removal rates of above 95 %. Three main degradation reactions of quinolones were detected: the decarboxylation of quinolones, the ring opening reaction of piperazine and the defluorination of C–F. The main decomposition reactions of sulfonamides included the sulfonamide bond (S N) breaking at the active sites, the oxidation of the amino acids on the benzene rings , and the substitution and oxidation ring opening reaction of pyrimidine. This study not only developed a detailed isolation and identification method for the degradation pathways and mechanisms of mixed pharmaceutical pollutants, but also provides a superb photocatalyst for the removal of multiplex pharmaceutical pollutants.

In this work, an efficient nitrogen-doped carbon dots (N-CQDs) doped Bi 2 MoO 6 /CuMn 2 O 4 heterojunction photoanode (N-CQDs/Bi 2 MoO 6 /CuMn 2 O 4 ) was successfully prepared via a facile hydrothermal-coupling strategy, and it was integrated with a Cu cathode to build a PFC for concurrent electricity generation and organic pollutant degradation. Approximately 92% of RhB was eliminated, accompanied by photocurrent and power output values of 8.3 mA·cm −2 and 51.0 μW·cm −2 , respectively. In addition, the open-circuit voltage and photoconversion efficiency were measured as 0.60 V and 0.12%. The superior performance of PFC originates from the integrated action of carrier separation of Bi 2 MoO 6 /CuMn 2 O 4 Z-scheme heterojunction and electron-storage function of N-CQDs, which reinforces visible-light harvesting, suppressed charge recombination, accelerates the interfacial electron transfer and sustains strong redox potentials. The degradation process involved the participation of both radical species (•OH, •O 2 ⁻ ) and non-radical species (h + ). Due to the formation of local Schottky-like contact between Bi 2 MoO 6 /CuMn 2 O 4 and N-CQDs, N-CQDs act as an efficient electron mediator, which facilitates the generation of reactive oxygen species and further enhances the degradation efficiency. This work provides a new insight into constructing quantum-dot-mediated heterojunction photoanode.

Pesticide residues in food pose significant risks to human health, necessitating accurate monitoring methods. To address this, a lattice distortion strategy-based highly sensitive photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensor was developed for profenofos (PFF) detection. Substitution of Bi 3 + with Co 2+ in the Bi 2 MoO 6 lattice induced enhanced lattice distortions and oxygen vacancies, reducing the bandgap and dramatically improving visible-light absorption and charge transfer efficiency. These modifications synergistically boosted PEC performance, with 4 % Co-doped Bi 2 MoO 6 achieving optimal results, including a reduced narrowed bandgap (2.28 eV) and a significantly enhanced photocurrent density compared to pristine Bi 2 MoO 6 . The sensor exhibited a broad linear detection range (0.5 mg L −1 to 0.01 ng L −1 ) and an ultralow detection limit of 3.3 pg L −1 , demonstrating excellent sensitivity and selectivity in real food samples. This work presents an innovative efficient, non-toxic, and eco-friendly tool for pesticide residue detection, paving new avenues for food safety monitoring and public health protection.

The pursuit of rapid and sensitive detection methods for bioactive compounds in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is a continuous quest in the field of natural product chemistry. Herein, we report the development of a novel nanocomposite material comprising bismuth molybdate (Bi 2 MoO 6 ) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), which has been successfully applied to the ultrasensitive and simultaneous detection of the bioactive flavonoids baicalein and chrysin. These compounds, known for their potent anticancer and antioxidant properties, are prevalent in TCM and nutraceuticals. The Bi 2 MoO 6 -MWCNTs nanocomposite was meticulously characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and cyclic voltammetry (CV), revealing its structural and functional attributes. The optimized electrochemical sensor, based on a glassy carbon electrode modified with the nanocomposite, demonstrated remarkable sensitivity with a linear response range of 0.001–5.0 μmol·L −1 for baicalein and 0.007–3.0 μmol·L −1 for chrysin, alongside impressively low detection limits of 0.2 nmol·L −1 and 1.4 nmol·L −1 , respectively. The sensor’s performance was further validated through its application in the analysis of human serum and Scutellaria baicalensis extracts, showcasing its robust repeatability, selectivity, and stability. This work not only advances the field of TCM analysis but also opens new horizons for the integration of hollow bimetallic oxides with carbon-based materials in electrochemical sensing, offering a strategic approach to the rapid assessment of bioactive constituents in complex matrices.

Photocatalytic CO₂ reduction to produce high-value-added chemicals is a promising strategy, however, fabricating highly efficient and economical catalysts is a critical challenge. Herein, an in-situ metal Bi engineering strategy during the construction process of double‑bismuth-based S-scheme heterojunctions is developed via a straightforward solvothermal approach. The as-prepared Bi/BiOBr/Bi 2 MoO 6 S-scheme heterojunctions exhibit abundant enriched oxygen vacancies (OVs) and a pronounced Bi surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect due to a high dispersion of the in-situ formation process, achieving excellent photocatalytic performance of CO 2 -to-CO conversion. Surprisingly, the photocatalytic activity of CO 2 -to-CO over Bi/BiOBr/Bi 2 MoO 6 is up to 71.91 μmol·g −1 ·h −1 , with a high selectivity of 97.04 %. This represents enhancements of 141- and 1.63-fold compared to pure Bi 2 MoO 6 and Bi/BiOBr, respectively. The outstanding photocatalytic CO 2 reduction performance can be ascribed to the synergistic enhancement effects of S-scheme heterostructures, the pronounced Bi SPR effect, and the enriched OVs engineering. Theoretical calculations and in situ spectroscopy analyses unveil that the mechanism of enhanced photocatalytic CO 2 reduction achieved through in-situ metallic Bi and OVs engineering on the S-scheme heterojunction. This meticulous catalyst design provides insights into a novel strategy for the efficient and precise customization of unique S-scheme Bi-based photocatalyst with enriched OVs and Bi SPR effects, opening new avenues for practical photocatalysis applications.
