Photo cured 3D porous silica-carbon (SiO2–C) membrane as anode material for high performance rechargeable Li-ion batteries

Safdar Ali,Saddique Jaffer,Inamullah Maitlo,Farooq Khurum Shehzad,Qunying Wang,Sikandar Ali,Muhammad Yasir Akram,Yong He,Jun Nie

Silicon based anode materials has got significant attention in recent years due to its environmental affinity, lower cost and high capacity in lithium ion batteries . The Photo cured 3D porous Silica-carbon membrane (SiO 2 –C material) was synthesized via binary phase solid state photo-polymerization, freeze dried to obtain porous membrane and then used as template to get silica deposited membrane by chemical vapor deposition method (CVD) at 30  ° C, followed by calcination . The silicon deposition has been confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS). The Barret-Joyner-Halenda (BJH) pore size distribution results showed the pore size of 10.2924 nm and surface area of 21.1957 m 2 /g with cumulative pore volume of 0.040248 cm³/g. The first discharge capacity reached to 719 mAhg −1 with 79.94% columbic efficiency regarding first cycle and discharge capacity for 100 cycles reached to 693 mAhg −1 with 99% columbic efficiency, which indicated high reaction reversibility. The silicon deposition with a porous structure improved the electronic conductivity and stabilized the material. The better electrochemical performance observed could be due to porous structure and carbon matrix of SiO 2 –C material.

Synthesis of TiO2/Cu2O heterojunction material based on SiO2 nanospheres and its application in anti-oxidation and antibacterial coatings

Xiaojiao Yu,Yi Wang,Long Li,Jin Wang,Dun Zhang

To enhance the bactericidal efficacy of TiO 2 /Cu 2 O composite coatings and mitigate the issue of ongoing oxidation, we introduced different sizes of spherical silica as supporting materials, combined with TiO 2 /Cu 2 O, to develop a novel antibacterial, antioxidant photocatalytic system. The synthesized ST and STC samples underwent comprehensive characterization using transmission electron microscopy. Subsequent analyses employing X-ray diffraction and UV–Vis diffuse reflectance systematically validated the preserved structural integrity and enhanced photochemical stability of the developed materials. The introduction of silica spheres not only significantly increased the specific surface areas of TiO 2 and Cu 2 O, thereby enhancing their interfacial contact, but also promoted efficient charge separation of photogenerated electrons and holes. Furthermore, this approach reduced the required amount of TiO 2 and Cu 2 O, leading to cost savings. These advantages make the developed coating highly suitable for industrial-scale sterilization applications.

Improved dielectric and thermal properties of core-shell structured SiO2/polyolefin polymer composites for high-frequency copper clad laminates

Bo Wu,Xin Mao,Yi Xu,Rong Li,Nan Wu,Xianzhong Tang

Core-shell structured SiO 2 particles were added to polyolefin matrix to prepare copper clad laminates (CCLs) with high thermal conductivity, low dielectric loss ( D f ) and low dielectric constant ( D k ) for the 5G age. In this work, core-shell structured SiO 2 particles with different shell thicknesses were fabricated by coating ethylene-propylene-dicyclopentadiene (EPDM) onto their surface. The effect of shell thickness (0, 6, 9 and 13 nm) on the properties of CCLs was investigated. CCLs, with a shell thickness of 13 nm EPDM@SiO 2 , achieved D k  = 3.57 and D f  = 0.0032 at 10 GHz and exhibited stable dielectric properties in a wide frequency range (3 GHz to 18 GHz). The as-obtained CCLs had a thermal conductivity of 0.56 W/(m·K), which is higher than that of the non-coated CCLs [0.46 W/(m·K)]. Moreover, the as-obtained CCLs showed good mechanical properties and solvent resistance. Hence, the as-obtained CCLs with surface rubberised SiO 2 particles have a potential for use in high-frequency printed circuit boards (PCBs).

A ternary composite oxides S2O82−/ZrO2–TiO2–SiO2 as an efficient solid super acid catalyst for depolymerization of lignin

Huizhen Wang,Wenzhi Li,Jindong Wang,Hou-min Chang,Hasan Jameel,Qi Zhang,Song Li,Lele Jin

The solid, super, acid catalyst S2O82−/ZrO2–TiO2–SiO2, which has both a strong Brønsted acid and Lewis acid, was prepared and applied in lignin depolymerization. The results indicate that S2O82−/ZrO2–TiO2–SiO2 is an effective catalyst for lignin depolymerisation since the liquid product was almost completely dissolved in ethyl acetate, indicating that it was comprised of mostly oligomeric lignin degradation products. The effect of hydrogenation co-catalysts (Pd/C, Pt/C and Ru/C, Rh/C) were also studied and found to improve the yield of aromatic compounds and the petroleum ether soluble fraction, which are mostly monomeric and dimeric products. The resulting yields of aromatic compounds and petroleum ether soluble products were 14.8% and 46%, respectively, when S2O82−/ZrO2–TiO2–SiO2 and Pt/C mixed catalyst was used at 310 °C for 24 hours. These results show that the use of a combination Brønsted and Lewis acid catalyst in combination with a hydrogenation catalyst (S2O82−/ZrO2–TiO2–SiO2 together with a noble metal catalyst) opens a practical route for efficient lignin depolymerization.

Preparation of Cs–La–Sb/SiO2 catalyst and its performance for the synthesis of methyl acrylate by aldol condensation

Yanan Wang,Xuewei Lang,Guoqing Zhao,Huanhui Chen,Yiwei Fan,Linqing Yu,Xiuxiu Ma,Zhirong Zhu

A variety of cesium supported catalysts with amorphous SiO2 as a carrier were prepared by vacuum impregnation and ultrasonic impregnation methods, which were used for the synthesis of methyl acrylate by aldol condensation of methyl acetate and formaldehyde. The as-prepared catalysts were characterized by XRD, N2 adsorption–desorption, NH3-TPD, CO2-TPD, XPS, ICP and TG. The results indicated that the bifunctional Cs–La–Sb/SiO2 showed a high conversion of methyl acetate as well as a high yield of methyl acrylate, which was attributed to the weak acid–base sites and the formation of basic Cs–O–Si species with the addition of antimony and lanthanum, respectively. Furthermore, Cs–La–Sb/SiO2-(V) prepared by vacuum impregnation showed a high initial catalytic activity, but its activity sharply decreased due to the loss of active species. Comparatively, Cs–La–Sb/SiO2-(U) prepared by ultrasonic impregnation showed a good stability owing to the cavitation effect of ultrasonic waves. The conversion of methyl acetate and yield of methyl acrylate remained above 20% and 9.0% (based on methyl acetate) for 100 h without obvious deactivation. Moreover, carbon deposition was the main factor for the deactivation of Cs–La–Sb/SiO2-(U), and the coked catalyst could be regenerated by calcination in air.

Modification of SiO2 Nanoparticle-Decorated TiO2 Nanocomposites with Silane Coupling Agents for Enhanced Opacity in Blue Light-Curable Ink

Guangyuan Xie,Lei Wang,Qiuyu Zhu,Liang Xu,Kaili Song,Zhicheng Yu

To improve inkjet printing performance, surface single encapsulation of nano-TiO2 particles has widely been reported. However, surface single encapsulation has a limited effect on improving the inkjet printing performance of nano-TiO2 particles. In this study, SiO2 nanoparticle-decorated TiO2 (SiO2/TiO2) nanocomposites modified with silane coupling agents were obtained by a two-step method to improve the inkjet printing performance. The effects of different Na2SiO3 concentrations on the morphology, particle size, and opacity performance of SiO2/TiO2 nanocomposites were studied. The results showed that when the molar ratio of Na2SiO3 to TiO2 was 0.06:1, SiO2/TiO2 nanocomposites showed the best dispersibility and the best opacity performance. Then, the effect of different silane coupling agents on the properties of curing films was investigated. The results showed that the properties (opacity performance, tensile properties, thermal stability, and color fastness) of the KH570-SiO2/TiO2 nanocomposite curing film were greatly improved. The characteristic peaks in the Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) confirmed that SiO2 nanoparticles were anchored at the nano-TiO2 particle surface via Si–O–Ti bonds, and silane coupling agents were successfully grafted onto the SiO2/TiO2 nanocomposite surface via Si–O–Si/Si–O–Ti bonds. In addition, it was verified that the double bonds of KH570-SiO2/TiO2 nanocomposites participated in the photopolymerization of oligomers/monomers by FTIR.

Zhe Su,Shunyan Ning,Zengyuan Li,Shichang Zhang

A silica-polymer-based adsorbent ( iso Pentyl-BTBP/SiO 2 -P) was prepared via a vacuum impregnation method for efficient and continuous separation of palladium from complex systems. The results revealed that the distribution coefficient ( K d ) value of iso Pentyl-BTBP/SiO 2 -P toward Pd in 3 M HNO 3 solution was 5226 mL/g, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 31.7 mg/g. Besides, iso Pentyl-BTBP/SiO 2 -P exhibited a superior adsorption selectivity toward Pd to the other 14 coexisting interfering fission product ions, with the separation factor SF Pd/M value over 433 in 0.1–6 M HNO 3 solution. Moreover, column experiments results demonstrated that iso Pentyl-BTBP/SiO 2 -P can efficiently separate Pd with approximately 100% recovery, from simulated high level liquid waste (HLLW) solutions with multiple competing ions. Finally, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis results revealed strong interactions between nitrogen-containing functional groups (C-N C) and Pd throughout the adsorption process , wherein the NO 3 − acting as the counterions to balance the charge. In conclusion, iso Pentyl-BTBP/SiO 2 -P has shown promising applications for effectively separating Pd from multi-component and highly acidic environments.

Constructing tri-mode sensing platform based on room-temperature phosphorescent B/N-CDs@SiO2 for visual detection of trinitrophenol

Yujie Xiao,Zhenxi Liu,Litong Yu,Xiaofeng Lv,Juan Du,Baozhan Zheng,Yong Guo

A stable B, N-CDs@SiO 2 RTP composite was constructed via silica confinement. • The composite shows blue fluorescence and green phosphorescence with 15 s afterglow. • A UV–Vis/fluorescence/phosphorescence tri-mode platform was developed for TNP sensing. • Portable RTP-foam enables visual and semi-quantitative on-site TNP detection. The development of optical probes with multimodal responses is of great significance for improving the reliability of hazardous pollutant detection. Herein, a room-temperature phosphorescent (RTP) composite based on B/N co-doped carbon dots (B/N-CDs) confined within a SiO 2 ) matrix (B/N-CDs@SiO 2 ) was developed for the tri-mode detection of 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP). B/N-CDs@SiO 2 exhibited blue fluorescence at 450 nm and green phosphorescence at 520 nm, with an average phosphorescence lifetime of 1.91 s and a visible afterglow lasting approximately 15 s, together with satisfactory optical stability. Interestingly, B/N-CDs@SiO 2 exhibits excellent response to TNP in both UV–vis absorption, fluorescence, and phosphorescence, thereby establishing a tri-mode sensing platform for TNP detection with detection limits of 1.81 μM, 0.32 μM, and 0.54 μM, respectively. The probe also demonstrates high selectivity for TNP over common ions and structurally related aromatic compounds, along with strong anti-interference capability. In spiked recovery tests in kinds of real samples, the satisfactory recoveries ranging from 91.2% to 108.9% (RSD: 0.34% to 3.74%) demonstrating its higher detection accuracy. Finally, the composite can be immobilized onto polyurethane foam to construct a portable visual sensing platform, which also successfully enabled the tri-mode and semi-quantitative detection of TNP. This work opens up a new avenue for the development of multi-signal detection systems for expanding their practical applications. Schematic illustration of the synthesis of B/N-CDs@SiO 2 and its application in TNP tri-mode sensing construction for TNP visual detection. Fabrication of SiO2/silver quantum dots composite coatings for synergistic passive anti-icing, active de-icing and corrosion protection

Zhaowei Liu,Zechong Liu,Yu Zhang,Pengjiao Chong,Chen Tang,Tao Wu,Yufei Tang

Under cold-climate conditions, ice accumulation on transmission line surfaces poses a severe threat to grid safety, while conventional anti-/de-icing strategies are limited by high energy consumption, low de-icing efficiency, and complex maintenance requirements. To address these challenges, a SiO 2 /AgQDs anti-/de-icing composite coating with excellent anti-icing performance was constructed on aluminum alloy substrates via in-situ chemical reduction coupled with sol-gel processing. The optimized MS/Ag-75 coating exhibited superhydrophobicity with a water contact angle of 163.2°, which endowed the surface with excellent self-cleaning and anti-fouling capabilities, while concurrently extending the droplet freezing time to 489 s, approximately ten times that of bare aluminum. Benefiting from the synergistic effect of the nano-SiO 2 light-trapping architecture and AgQDs-mediated localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR), the coating surface reached 90.7 °C within 120 s of illumination, enabling complete ice removal in only 44 s. Importantly, the coating also displayed the lowest self-corrosion current density (I corr =0.062168 mA/cm 2 ), confirming enhanced corrosion resistance. This study validates the significant advantage of AgQDs in creating high-performance photothermal surfaces and elucidates the integrated anti-icing, de-icing, and corrosion-protection mechanisms, providing a low-cost, high-performance design paradigm with broad application potential and significant practical relevance.

Modulating the negative permittivity of metacomposites by adjusting inductance and capacitance with the incorporation of Ag and Ag@SiO2

Min Chen,Lixue Xu,YanMin Wang

Metacomposites that have tunable negative permittivity show broad application potential in the domain of electromagnetics. In this study, the impregnation method was employed to successfully synthesize and impregnate silver (Ag) and silica-coated Ag (Ag@SiO₂) nanoparticles into a carbon cloth (CC) matrix. The content ratio of Ag and Ag@SiO₂ was regulated to adjust the negative permittivity of the composites. The results showed that a conductive network gradually formed in the composites and plasma oscillations occurred with the increase of Ag content, which thereby increased alternating current (AC) conductivity and the absolute values of negative permittivity. After Ag@SiO 2 nanoparticles were added, however, the conductive network was disrupted, which reduced electrical conductivity. Ag@SiO₂ regulated the frequency dispersion behavior of negative permittivity through Lorentz resonance. Thus, negative permittivity and frequency responses were successfully adjusted via the adjustment of the ratio between the inductive (Ag) and the capacitive (Ag@SiO₂) components in the composites. The findings offer a novel approach for designing lightweight metacomposites with precisely adjustable negative permittivity and frequency response characteristics.

Lushi Sun,Jiaxing Du,Yifei Leng,Gan Wan,Lei Bei,Chuanwei Li,Linlin Xu,Li Lin

Phase change materials present a promising solution for efficient thermal energy storage. This study systematically optimized the synthesis parameters for preparing SiO 2 -encapsulated myristic-stearic acid eutectic mixture via the sol-gel method. Through comprehensive investigation of key factors, optimal conditions were identified to produce microencapsulated phase change materials with spherical morphology, smooth surfaces, and superior thermal properties. The microencapsulated phase change materials prepared under optimal conditions exhibited melting and freezing temperatures of 48.40 °C and 46.53 °C, respectively, and latent heats of 133.74 J/g and 123.24 J/g. The encapsulation efficiency and energy storage efficiency reached 74.05% and 71.32%, respectively. Thermal and cycling tests demonstrated excellent leak resistance and thermal stability of this material. Furthermore, microencapsulation significantly improved the thermal conductivity, which was further enhanced by modifying the SiO 2 shell with graphene oxide. The simulation results of battery thermal management validated the practical application value of this material. This work elucidated the synthesis–property relationship for this class of materials, highlighting their potential value in thermal regulation and low-to-medium temperature energy storage.

Spherical SiO2/nano-BN multifunctional superhydrophobic coatings: enhancing thermal conductivity and water vapor resistance in electronics for Aero-engine

Yingping Yang,Zuozhu Yin,Yining Zhang,Suhang Zhang,Xiangyu Lan,Yuhua Chen,Zhen Hong,Jilin Xu,Mingshan Xue

The escalating integration of aviation electronic systems has exacerbated thermal dissipation challenges and water vapor condensation issues, significantly compromising equipment longevity under complex operational conditions. This study presents a novel two-step spraying methodology for developing spherical silica/nano-boron nitride (BN)-based composite multifunctional superhydrophobic coatings, addressing the critical failure mechanisms associated with thermal and moisture-induced breakdowns in electronic assemblies. Experimental protocol involved preparing two composite suspensions by incorporating micron-scale spherical SiO 2 particles and BN nanoparticles into separate beakers containing ethyl acetate, polyurethane, and 1H, 1H, 2H, 2H-Perfluorooctanetriethoxysilane (POTS) as the hydrophobic modifier. These formulations were subsequently applied via spray deposition to create a hierarchical superhydrophobic coating on graphene-modified composite membranes. Optimization of mass ratio parameters revealed that a 3:1 of SiO 2 : BN composition yielded optimal surface characteristics, exhibiting a static water contact angle (WCA) of 161.7°, indicative of exceptional superhydrophobic properties. The results demonstrate homogeneous material mixing with stabilized structure and significantly reduced surface energy. The composite superhydrophobic coating markedly enhanced the thermal conductivity of graphene composite membranes while forming a uniform microstructure. Performance tests revealed exceptional self-cleaning and anti-fouling properties without contaminant residues, with high hydrophobicity maintained even after exposure to harsh environments. This study provides a practical solution for aviation electronics protection, simultaneously achieving superhydrophobicity, enhanced thermal dissipation, and extended service life under extreme conditions, demonstrating significant potential for next-generation aerospace electronic encapsulation.
