Rational synthesis of bimetallic CoFe-MOF-74 grown on Ni foam converted into bamboo-shoot-like α-Co(OH)2/CoFe2O4 nanorods for high-performance supercapacitors

Tao-Long Wu,Xiu-Niang Tan,Tian-Tian Nong,Yu-Jie Pan,Peng-Fei Qiu,Jia-Qi He,Yan Zhou,Xue-Cai Tan,Zai-Yin Huang,Lei Han

Owing to the high specific surface area, rich active sites, well-controlled morphology and structural stability with tunable compositional components, the rational combination of hybrid nanostructured materials from metal-organic frameworks templates has become highly attractive and still of great challenge for supercapacitors. In this work, three bimetallic metal–organic frameworks Co 1-x Fe x -MOF-74/NF ( x = 0.25, 0.5 and 0.75 ) nanoarrays with different proportional Co/Fe ratios on nickel foam have been successfully designed and fabricated via in-situ interfacial growth method, which were further controllable converted to α-Co(OH) 2 /CoFe 2 O 4 nanoarrays with different proportional Co/Fe ratios CF-x/NF ( x = 0.25, 0.5 and 0.75 ) without structure collapse through alkaline etching process. Among them, the transformation of the bamboo-shoot-like CF-0.75/NF electrode displays excellent electrochemical properties with high area capacitance (3941.14 mF/cm 2 at 2 mA/cm 2 ), good rate capability, low resistances and remarkable cycling stability. The CF-0.75//AC ASC device delivers a high energy density of 0.16 mWh/cm 2 at a power density of 0.756.1 mW/cm 2 . And this CF-0.75//AC ASC device exhibits a good cycling stability and practical application in energy storage field. This strategy could be extend to form other unique bimetallic hybrids nanoarrays architectures with enhanced electrochemical activity for high-performance energy storage devices.

Interfacial Coupling Engineering Boosting Electrocatalytic Performance of CoFe Layered Double Hydroxide Assembled on N-Doped Porous Carbon Nanosheets for Water Splitting and Flexible Zinc-Air Batteries

Nan Li,Ting Yang,Lijuan Huang,Hao Jiang,Jiaxiang Xiao,Xiaoyu Ma,Hang Lou,Chao Xie,Yahui Yang

The disadvantages of layered double hydroxides (LDHs) such as easy stacking, poor inherent conductivity, and limited versatility hinder their application in splitting water and zinc–air batteries (ZABs). Interface engineering to regulate the electron distribution of LDHs by introducing another component is a way to compensate for the poor electron transport capacity of LDHs during catalysis. Herein, a hierarchical structure is synthesized by assembling CoFe-LDH nanosheets onto the surface of layered N-doped porous carbon (NPC), CoFe-LDH@NPC, by using an interface engineering strategy. CoFe-LDH@NPC has high catalytic activity for the oxygen/hydrogen evolution reaction (OER/HER) with overpotentials of 280/100 mV, respectively. The two-electrode water splitting catalyzed by CoFe-LDH@NPC only needs 1.61 V to drive a current density of 10 mA cm–2 for 60 h. The theoretical results show that there is an electron-deficient/electron-rich interface between the NPC substrate and the CoFe-LDH in CoFe-LDH@NPC. The electrons on the coupling interface are easily transferred, which results in a change of the adsorption behavior of the reaction intermediates and improves the catalytic activity for the OER and HER. In addition, CoFe-LDH@NPC-catalyzed rechargeable flexible ZABs have excellent performance with low charge–discharge polarization (0.87 V) and a long-term stability of 65 h.

Synergistic coupling of CoFe-layered double hydroxide nanosheet arrays with reduced graphene oxide modified Ni foam for highly efficient oxygen evolution reaction and hydrogen evolution reaction

Jiawei Guo,Zhuojun Wei,Kun Wang,Hui Zhang

Novel CoFe-LDH (layered double hydroxide) nanosheet arrays in situ grown on rGO (reduced graphene oxide) uniformly modified Ni foam were synthesized by a citric acid-assisted aqueous phase coprecipitation strategy. Systematic characterizations indicates that the series of Co x Fe 1 -LDH/rGO/NF (x = 4, 3, 2) all show Co x Fe 1 -LDH nanosheets (150–180 × 15 nm) grown vertically on the surface of rGO/NF. Especially, the Co 3 Fe 1 -LDH/rGO/NF exhibits the best performance with overpotentials of 250 and 110 mV at 10 mA cm −2 in 1 M KOH for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), respectively. When it is used as cathode and anode simultaneously for overall water splitting, they require 1.65 and 1.84 V at 10 and 100 mA cm −2 , respectively. Excellent performance of Co 3 Fe 1 -LDH/rGO/NF is due to the nanosheet arrays structure with open channels, synergistic coupling between Co 3 Fe 1 -LDH and rGO enhancing electrical conductivity , and in-situ growth of Co 3 Fe 1 -LDH on rGO/NF enhancing stability.

Harnessing Electronically Core-Shell CoFe Alloy-Carbon from Prussian Blue Analogues for Efficient Pollutant Abatement via Peracetic Acid Activation: Dual Reactive Species Generation and Synergistic Mechanisms

Linhao Wang,Jia Wei,Jiangkai Huo,Wei Ji,Xiaohui Zhang,Yanan Li,Jiamei Li,Nan Cui,Wenhao Yan,Yuxin Zhao,Jun Li,Ju Wang

Herein, an electron-optimized core-shell CoFe alloy-carbon composite (CoFeC) was developed from prepared CoFe Prussian blue analogues (CoFe PBAs) through pyrolysis and applied for peracetic acid (PAA) activation. Characterization analysis and theoretical calculations indicated that the Co sites as the primary active centers, with the presence of C and Fe in CoFeC significantly narrowed the difference between the d-band center ( Ɛ d ) and the Fermi level ( E F ), thereby reducing PAA adsorption energy on Co sites and enhancing electron transfer. The identification of reactive species confirmed that acetylperoxy radicals (CH 3 C(O)OO·) and singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) were the dominant species driving the reaction. The CoFeC/PAA system demonstrated exceptional pollutant degradation efficiency, achieving nearly 100% removal within 30   min, along with strong interference resistance and high durability in continuous-flow reactors. This work provided novel insights into the activation of PAA by bimetallic carbon catalysts and offered guidance for the development of efficient and sustainable water treatment technologies.

CoFe formic-acid framework derived S, N co-doped carbon nanotube composites decorated with a bimetallic sulfide as a bifunctional electrocatalyst for rechargeable zinc–air batteries

Qihao Wu,Tao Xie,Li Zhang,Heju Gao,Jiahui Jiang,Ting Zhao,Guancheng Xu

Wearable and rechargeable zinc–air batteries (ZABs) hold significant potential for applications in flexible electronics and light weight power sources due to their high energy density and excellent safety. However, the practical use of ZABs is hindered by the slow kinetics of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) on the air cathode. Here, we prepared S, N co-doped carbon nanotubes loaded with a cobalt–iron alloy (CoFe and Co0.72Fe0.28) and Co8FeS8 nanoparticles that can act as bifunctional electrocatalysts through one-step pyrolysis using the CoFe formic-acid framework (CoFe-FF) as the metal source. This electrocatalyst exhibited a superior electrocatalytic performance compared to commercial Pt/C (20 wt%) and RuO2. The ZAB assembled with CoFeS/SNCNT demonstrated an open-circuit voltage (OCV) of 1.47 V, a maximum power density (Pmax) of 175.3 mW cm−2, and a good cycle life. Furthermore, the flexible ZAB assembled with CoFeS/SNCNT achieved an OCV of 1.38 V and a Pmax of 77.7 mW cm−2, while maintaining stability under different bending angles. This study presents a feasible strategy for synthesizing and constructing high-performance non-noble metal bi-functional electrocatalysts for rechargeable zinc–air batteries.

Optimized fabrication of Cu-doped ZnO/calcined CoFe‒LDH composite for efficient degradation of bisphenol a through synergistic visible-light photocatalysis and persulfate activation: Performance and mechanisms

Jyunhong Shen,Antong Shi,Jiahui Lu,Xiangtao Lu,Hongyu Zhang,Zhuwu Jiang

A novel magnetically separable Cu/ZnO/CoFe‒CLDH composite, whose synthesis was optimized using the Taguchi approach, was optimally synthesized by hydrothermally coupling Cu-doped ZnO and calcined CoFe–LDH. The synthesized Cu/ZnO/CoFe‒CLDH was applied to construct a synergistic process of integrating visible-light photocatalysis (VPC) with persulfate activation (PSA) and to degrade bisphenol A (BPA). Various characterizations proved that Cu/ZnO/CoFe‒CLDH possessed excellent physicochemical, optoelectronic and magnetic properties, thereby enhancing the catalytic performance. The Cu/ZnO/CoFe‒CLDH composite achieved highly efficient BPA degradation during the synergistic VPC‒PSA process, and its reaction rate constant (0.74 h −1 ) was 6.17-, 4.11-, and 2.85-fold higher than that of Cu/ZnO, CoFe‒CLDH, and Cu/ZnO/CoFe‒CLDH (VPC only), respectively. Moreover, the effects of the catalyst dosage, initial pollutant concentration , solution pH, persulfate dosage and coexisting ions on BPA degradation were comprehensively investigated. Radical-trapping experiments revealed that the contributions of ·OH, SO 4 · ‒ , ·O 2 − , and 1 O 2 involved in BPA degradation. Based on the intermediates identified by LC/MS, the main BPA degradation pathways were determined, the overall trend of which reflects a decreasing ecotoxicity. This study verified the effectiveness of the synergistic VPC‒PSA process with Cu/ZnO/CoFe‒CLDH, which could be used as a new reference for removing organic micropollutants from water.

Design and facile synthesis of CoFe nanoparticles functionalized with boron and nitrogen co-doped ultra-thin mesoporous carbon nanosheets: The advanced glucose and hydrogen peroxide electrochemical sensors

Xinyan Xiong,Zhuang Wang,Xiaoyu Li,Mian Li,Xiangjie Bo

Cobalt (Co)-based bimetallic alloys, formed by incorporating a secondary metal with Co, demonstrate improved catalytic performance for glucose/H 2 O 2 sensing. Nevertheless, limitations related to their porous structures and the availability of active sites have led to a restricted linear detection range. Designing three-dimensional (3D) architectures composed of orderly stacked two-dimensional (2D) carbon nanosheets (NSs) reveals abundant hierarchical pores and three-phase interfaces, which facilitate efficient mass and electron transfer while simultaneously enhancing the dispersion of additional active centers. The present study proposes a novel 3D hierarchically porous 'honeycomb' structure self-assembled from numerous cobalt iron (CoFe) nanoparticles integrated with 2D ultrathin NSs doped with boron (B) and nitrogen (N) (referred to as CoFe-BN-CNSs T NSs). The optimized CoFe-BN-CNSs 900 NSs exhibit excellent electrical conductibility, abundant mesoporous structures, and a remarkably high doping level of B/N electrochemically active sites (9.71 atom %). The CoFe-BN-CNSs 900 NSs-based H 2 O 2 sensor displays a wide linear detection range from 0.04 to 16.10 mM, along with a high sensitivity of 127.20 uA cm −2 mM −1 . For glucose detection, the sensor exhibits a wide linear range of 0.01–9.35 mM and a high sensitivity of 118.90 uA cm −2 mM −1 . Notably, the CoFe-BN-CNSs 900 NSs-derived sensors for H 2 O 2 and glucose detection demonstrate excellent reproducibility, stability, and strong resistance to interference from electroactive molecules and inorganic salts. In particular, CoFe-BN-CNSs 900 NSs-based electrochemical sensors demonstrate remarkable accuracy in the quantification of H 2 O 2 concentrations in disinfectant solutions and glucose levels in serum samples, thereby highlighting their potential for practical applications. This study presents a novel approach for the sensitive and rapid detection of H 2 O 2 and glucose in real-world samples.

In Situ Controllably Self-Assembled CoFe-TDPAT Metal–Organic Framework Nanosheet Arrays on Iron Foam as Highly Efficient Bifunctional Catalytic Electrodes for Overall Water Splitting at Large Current Density

Weiguang Hu,Qing Yan,Xiaoyan Wang,Jianguo Lu,Qinggang He,Qinghua Zhang,Weiyong Yuan

For the first time, a Co and Fe bimetallic metal-organic framework (BMOF) nanosheet array (NSA) employing 5,5′,5′'-(1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-triyl)tris(azanediyl)triisophthalic acid (H 6 TDPAT) as the organic ligand is in situ controllably self-assembled on iron foam (IF). The obtained IF@CoFe-TDPAT NSA exhibits an oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity much superior to most reported catalysts and even Ru and Ir-based ones and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activity higher than most metal-organic framework (MOF)-based catalysts. The excellent bifunctional activities are ascribed to the superhydrophilic (3D) vertically aligned, interconnected NSA of CoFe-TDPAT MOF with in situ activated coordinatively unsaturated metal sites remarkably enhancing OH − and H 2 O adsorption, accelerating electron transfer and transport, and facilitating O 2 /H 2 diffusion. When adopted as a bifunctional electrode for overall water splitting, it achieves 300 mA cm −2 at 1.753 V and exhibits negligible current decay after 100 h. This performance is the highest of recently reported noble-metal-free water electrolyzers, and even much higher than those using commercial noble metal-based catalysts. This work offers an economical, facile, and controllable strategy to fabricate low-cost, highly efficient, and bifunctional BMOF nanostructured array electrodes for large-current-density water splitting, and also sheds light on the mechanisms for in situ self-assembly and outstanding OER and HER performance of 3D free-standing complex-organic-ligand-based BMOF nanoarchitectures.

Magnetic CoFe alloy–Co supported on mesoporous carbon as an efficient catalyst for the degradation of bensulfuron-methyl: insight into the effect of calcination temperature on carbon defects and singlet oxygen

Chao Yuan,Jialing Sheng,Shuke Guo,Xiaoyu Wang,Jiangyan Xu,Hongmei Jiang

In this work, a magnetic CoFe alloy and Co supported on mesoporous carbon with abundant defects (CoFe–Co/MC) was prepared by a sol–gel method combined with calcination and applied to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) and efficiently remove bensulfuron methyl (BSM) from water. CoFe–Co/MC could degrade 95% of BSM, while Co or Fe without supported mesoporous carbon could only provide degradation efficiencies below 10%, indicating that the introduction of mesoporous carbon could effectively enhance catalytic activity. Moreover, the dissolution of Co2+ from CoFe–Co/MC is only 0.22 mg L−1, which is about 20% of Co/MC, indicating that the bimetallic composite effectively inhibits the dissolution. The results of radical scavenger and EPR experiments demonstrated that 1O2 played the leading role in degradation process, while SO4˙− and small amounts of ˙OH and O2˙− were also involved in the degradation. The results of p-BQ scavenger and N2 atmosphere experiments showed that 1O2 mainly originated from the interaction between carbon defects and dissolved oxygen. The degradation performance of the CoFe–Co/MC/PMS system, carbon defect content and 1O2 content all increased with the increase of pyrolysis temperature, which demonstrated that adjusting pyrolysis temperature can regulate carbon defect content and 1O2 content, further improving catalytic activity. Possible BSM degradation pathways of CoFe–Co/MC/PMS were investigated in detail. This research provides new insights into the design and construction of metal–carbon catalysts rich in carbon defects and reveals how to regulate carbon defect content, 1O2 content and catalytic performance.
