Ultrathin and lightweight electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials tailored for microminiaturized electronic devices have become an urgent necessity. Porous polymeric composites incorporated with conductive fillers could be a promising candidate to meet such challenge. In the current study, pore-formation technique based on the inverse emulsion - breath figure process was utilized to shape highly porous polymeric coating with multi-layered arrays of micro-pores, uniformly embedded with Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene. By tuning the influential parameters, including MXene content, coating thickness, and pore sizes, an EMI shielding effectiveness value of 38 dB could be obtained from the composite coating. The 3D conductive pathways shaped by the Ti 3 C 2 T x flakes and the existence of the multiple interfaces within the multi-layered porous matrix of the polymer-MXene coatings (PMCs) were assumed to establish the fine EMI shielding performance. The PMC was further coated onto the circuit board and proven to function well as an ultra-thin EMI shielding layer attached to the microminiaturized electronic devices. In-situ metallic reduction induced by the MXene with inherent reducibility was utilized to further enrich the porous matrix of PMCs with Ag nanoparticles, generating Ag-decorated PMCs (Ag-PMCs). The fabricated Ag-PMC with thickness of only 240 μm demonstrated superior EMI shielding performance of an EMI SE value of 70.32 dB and a SSE/t value of 8775 dB cm 2 g −1 . This work sheds light on designing the ultrathin porous coating as EMI shielding materials for cutting-edge electronic devices.

Rapid electrification and renewable-energy infrastructure expansion demand copper materials simultaneously achieving high conductivity and robust structural performance. To address this, the study developed a strategy that couples a solution–solid displacement reaction with electrostatic self-assembly to construct hierarchical MXene/Ag@Cu composite powders, thereby achieving dual molecular-level compositing of Ag and MXene. During sintering, the Ag formed a continuous strip-like Ag phase within the Cu matrix, thereby establishing efficient dual pathways for electron and mechanical conduction, as confirmed by both microstructure characterization and finite element simulation. The first-principles analyses further revealed that Ag acts as an interfacial coupling element, effectively bridging self-lubricating MXene nanosheets with the Cu matrix, thereby enhancing electron transport, load-bearing capacity, and tribological performance. Furthermore, the Ag–MXene architecture was shown to construct a robust physicochemical barrier. Thermophysical measurements indicated its role in managing frictional heat, while first-principles simulations revealed its high energy barrier against O diffusion, collectively mitigating oxidative wear. Benefiting from multiscale synergistic reinforcement, the Cu-matrix composite simultaneously achieved high conductivity (96.3% IACS), excellent strength (354.3 MPa), and an ultralow wear rate (1.72 × 10 − 6 mm 3 N -1 m -1 ). These results demonstrate that the hierarchical Ag–MXene architecture successfully overcomes the conventional conductivity–strength–wear-resistance trade-off, offering a promising strategy for next-generation high-performance copper in advanced energy and industrial applications.

This study addresses key challenges of long-term stability, wide range, and high sensitivity in piezoresistive strain sensors by developing a multilayer composite. A parallel circuit is constructed using carbon nanotube@silver nanoparticles-MXene (CNT@AgNPs-MXene) and expanded graphite (EG) double sensing layers, exploiting EG’s interlayer sliding and recovery capability derived from its wide layer spacing, and is integrated with a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) support layer. This design provides complementary current pathways, where a redundant path is offered by the other layer when one layer breaks. The resulting CNT@AgNPs-MXene/EG/TPU trilayer (double sensing layers with a TPU support) achieves stable operation over 150,000 cycles, a working range of 630% (709% mechanically), and a maximum GF of 4091.74. In comparison, the EG/TPU bilayer (single EG layer with a TPU support) is also stable for 150,000 cycles and exhibits a higher maximum GF (16083.30) but a narrower working range (245%). Consequently, each sensor holds a distinct performance edge. The bilayer excels at detecting ultra-fine motions, while the trilayer is advantageous for large-strain scenarios. Both sensors reliably monitor diverse human motions and maintain long-term stability in harsh environments (fresh water, sweat, alkaline/acidic conditions). This work provides a new strategy for high-performance, durable sensors for harsh environments.

The development of multifunctional electronic information materials that combine electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding and infrared (IR) thermal camouflage is crucial for the smooth and safe operation of electronic devices. However, it is challenging for traditional shielding materials to simultaneously meet these high demands. Here, based on the strategy of interfacial bonding and compositional synergy, we successfully prepared a multilayer composite film via layer-by-layer vacuum filtration combined with a hot-pressing process using modified aramid nanofibers and MXene nanosheets as substrates. The film features aramid nanofibers-polypyrrole (ANF-PPy) as the matrix and Ag-MXene as the functional filler, and its unique multilayer structure enables it to generate multiple losses during electromagnetic wave transmission. In addition, the in-situ grown Ag nanoparticles effectively extend the MXene layer spacing and significantly enhance electromagnetic wave scattering efficiency. The film with a thickness of only 33 µm exhibits excellent EMI shielding performance (average EMI SE of 66.75 dB and SSE/t of 38432.54 dB cm 2 g −1 ). The tight integration of the multilayer structures also endows their high IR reflectivity. Accordingly, this research lays the foundation for the creation of multifunctional protective materials that have great potential for both military and civilian purposes.

The membrane fouling from oils, soluble organic matters, and microorganism is inevitable in practical application of oil/water separation, which easily causes the decline in flux and service life of membrane. Therefore, developing the advanced separation membrane with high flux and anti-fouling feature is still a big challenge. Herein, we report a facile strategy to prepare the multifunctional [email protected] /PEN fibrous composite membrane by the self-assembly of [email protected] hybrid on electrospun poly (arylene ether nitrile) (PEN) porous support. In the hierarchical skin layer of fibrous composite membrane, the silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were anchored onto the MXene surface via the self-reduction of silver nitrate, in which the MXene acted as reductant. Meanwhile, the [email protected] hybrid was stabilized and modified by the bio-inspired dopamine triggered crosslinking with polyethyleneimine. Because of regulated interlayer spacing, super-hydrophilic property, and porous supporting layer, the [email protected] /PEN fibrous composite membrane exhibited the ultra-high permeance (up to 11957.5 L·m −2 ·h −1 ·bar −1 ) for different oil–water emulsions while maintaining high-level rejection rate (99.13%), which was far beyond other MXene-based composite membranes reported before. Moreover, the fibrous composite membrane showed the satisfactory photocatalytic degradation rates for the methyl orange (15 ppm, 95.24%) and crystal violet (15 ppm, 95.61%) in 60 min, demonstrating the photocatalytic self-cleaning ability for organic pollutants. In addition, the fibrous composite membrane exhibited ∼ 99.99% E. coli growth inhibition, achieving the favorable antibacterial effect. Therefore, the low oil adhesion, photocatalytic self-cleaning, and antibacterial effect contributed to the synergistically enhanced anti-fouling, which enabled the membrane material to maintain high separation efficiency and long-term usage in complex multi-pollutant environments. The combination of high permeability and enhanced anti-fouling performance makes the fibrous composite membrane an ideal candidate for the fast purification of emulsified oily wastewater.
