A solution of NH3 detection based on catalytic conversion of NH3 into NOx was proposed by using MOS gas detectors and Pt-supported catalysts. The catalysts convert NH3 into NOx, which is a very sensitive analyte for MOS detectors. Catalysts based on Pt-loaded HZSM-5 and Al2O3 were prepared by wet impregnation. MOS detectors were fabricated from nanosized In2O3 and WO3 using screen-printing techniques. As expected, MOS sensors based on In2O3 and WO3 have an extremely high sensitivity to NO2; nevertheless, they have a relatively low response to NH3 and a large cross-sensitivity to typical interfering gases such as CO and ethanol. By the present solution, MOS sensors could very sensitively respond to NH3, even down to 0.25 ppm. In addition, it was also found that the catalysis also combusts the reducing gases into CO2 and water and consequently significantly improves the selectivity of NH3. Lastly, we would to like to stress that the proposed concept of the catalytic conversion method suggests the potential utility for broader measurements by using different catalysts and gas detectors and that only a part of the usage for NH3 was presented here.

CNFs@MoS₂ heterostructure is fabricated via an electrospinning-hydrothermal route. • Interfacial C–Mo/C–S bonds enhance conductivity and thermal shock stability of MoS₂. • CNFs@MoS₂ delivers 451.4 mAh g −1 up to 1000 mA cm −2 with reduced internal resistance. Molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂) is a promising high-capacity cathode candidate for thermal batteries, yet its practical application is restricted by low intrinsic electronic conductivity and poor structural stability under severe thermal shock. Herein, a chemically-bonded heterostructure of MoS₂ nanosheets anchored on N-doped carbon nanofibers (CNFs@MoS₂) is fabricated by electrospinning combined with hydrothermal treatment, where interfacial C Mo and C S bonds are generated between MoS₂ and N-doped carbon nanofibers. The interconnected conductive network accelerates ion/electron transport and offers mechanical support, whereas the formed interfacial bonds enhance structural stability of the composite under thermal-shock conditions. Electrochemical tests demonstrate that the obtained CNFs@MoS₂ delivers a high specific capacity of 451.4 mAh g −1 under stepwise-increased current density up to 1000 mA cm −2 , with distinctly reduced internal resistance compared with MoS₂. This work offers a feasible interfacial-engineering strategy to develop high-performance cathode materials for thermal batteries.

Normally, analytical applications of metal oxide semiconductors (MOS) in electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensors need to be coupled with electrochemical catalysts, some special coreactants or resonance energy transfer method, since MOS exhibited relatively low ECL intensity. In this research, we developed a simple ECL intensity enhancement method for MOS by covering a nanogold-film (NAuF) on the surface of fluorine-doped tin oxide-coated (FTO) conductive glass electrode. Aminated MnO 2 nanoparticles (NH-MnO 2 ) was chosen as exemplary MOS emitter to discuss the role of NAuF in ECL system. The results indicated that the NAuF bridged ECL sensor using NH-MnO 2 as emitter (NH-MnO 2 -NAuF/FTO) exhibited a stronger ECL intensity and extremely better stability. In furazolidone (FZD) determination test, the quenched ECL intensity showed a good linear relationship to FZD concentrations in the range 1.0 × 10 −8 M ∼ 1.0 × 10 −5 M, with a detection limit of 6.6 × 10 −9 M, in optimized conditions. Given these attributes, we developed a novel platform for ECL system that could simply enhance the intensity and stability. This work also efficiently offered insights into application potential of ECL analysis.

Lithium–sulfur (Li–S) batteries are considered promising candidates for next-generation energy storage systems. Developing high-efficiency catalysts to improve kinetics and inhibit the shuttle effect is a challenging task. In this study, a three-dimensional (3D) (ZnCo)3S4–MoS2 heterostructure was constructed at the nanoscale and used as a decoration for the separator of durable Li–S batteries. Benefiting from the generation of the built-in electric field between 3D (ZnCo)3S4 and in situ grown MoS2 nanosheet, the rapid transport of ions and electrons and excellent polysulfide redox kinetics are observed in the (ZnCo)3S4–MoS2, which results in a smooth ″adsorption–diffusion–conversion″ process of polysulfides. The Zn dopant effectively reduces the work function of Co3S4 via an electron transfer from Zn to Co3S4, strengthening the built-in electric field. The battery equipped with the (ZnCo)3S4–MoS2 nanomaterial-modified separator delivers a high initial discharge capacity of 1180.5 mAh g–1 at 1 C conditions and a low attenuation rate of 0.054% after 1000 cycles. In addition, the battery also exhibits good cycling stability at a high sulfur loading of 3 mg·cm–2, maintaining a capacity of 704.4 mAh g–1 (84.9% capacity retention) after 200 cycles at 0.1 C. This study provides a promising strategy to design highly efficient catalysts for durable Li–S batteries.

Herein, we report the fabrication of a high-performance fiber-shaped supercapacitor (FSSC) based on a hollow poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(4-styrenesulfonate)/molybdenum disulfide (PEDOT:PSS/MoS₂) hybrid fiber electrode via a hydrothermal co-assembly strategy. A three-dimensionally interconnected composite fiber electrode was constructed by the liquid-phase co-assembly of PEDOT:PSS chains and MoS₂ nanosheets, followed by acid post-treatment. This rational design alleviates several core drawbacks of conventional MoS₂-based electrodes, including inferior electrical conductivity, severe lamellar restacking, and low active site utilization efficiency. The hollow microstructure, formed by in-situ gas evolution during synthesis, improves electrolyte penetration and expands the electrode-electrolyte contact area. Electrochemical measurements on symmetric solid-state FSSCs show that the optimized hybrid fiber delivers favorable volumetric and areal capacitances of 329.9 F cm⁻³ and 390.1 mF cm⁻² at a current density of 2 A cm⁻³ , alongside a capacitance retention of 65.8% (2 −20 A cm⁻³). The improved electrochemical behavior originates from synergistic effects between conductive PEDOT and pseudocapacitive MoS₂, and the unique hierarchical hollow morphology. This facile synthesis yields advanced fiber electrodes, showing promising applications of hollow PEDOT:PSS/MoS₂ hybrids for wearable energy storage.

To address the environmental residues of tetracycline (TC) antibiotics and the spread of antibiotic resistance genes, as well as to develop efficient synergistic photocatalytic Fenton catalysts, this study synthesized iron-doped molybdenum disulfide (Fe-MoS 2 ) composite catalysts via a hydrothermal method and constructed a synergistic photocatalytic Fenton system for efficient TC degradation. Experimental results showed that the doping of iron significantly optimized the electronic structure of MoS 2 , reducing its bandgap from 1.51 eV to 1.30 eV, thereby broadening its light absorption range. Additionally, Fe Mo dual active sites suppressed charge recombination and improved charge separation efficiency. Under visible light irradiation, Fe-MoS 2 synergistically activated H 2 O 2 , achieving a TC removal rate of 82.3 % within 60 min. Iron doping promoted the heterogeneous Fenton reaction, accelerated the Fe 3+ /Fe 2+ cycling, and facilitated the direct reduction of H 2 O 2 by photogenerated electrons to produce active species ( O 2 − and 1 O 2 ), while the synergistic hole oxidation effectively degraded TC. Fe-MoS 2 exhibited excellent stability in weakly acidic to neutral environments as well as in complex aqueous matrices, along with good recyclability. This study provides new insights for the development of efficient bifunctional catalytic materials and offers significant reference value for the treatment of antibiotic contamination in real wastewater.

Addressing the clinical challenge of infected wound healing — where bacterial colonization and excessive inflammation impede the healing process, and conventional therapies struggle to simultaneously achieve antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and tissue regeneration effects — this study designed and synthesized a novel bioinspired nanoenzyme composite hydrogel, MoS₂@DAS, constructed around molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂) nanosheets. The hydrogel was fabricated by copolymerizing liquid-phase exfoliated MoS₂ nanosheets with dopamine methacrylamide (DMA), acrylamide (AM), and sulfobetaine methacrylate (SBMA). This design not only resolves the aggregation issue of MoS₂ in aqueous solution but also enhances its dispersion stability and biocompatibility. Furthermore, it incorporates two core functions tailored for the treatment of infected wounds: first, excellent near-infrared (NIR) photothermal conversion efficiency, which enables precise elevation of the local wound temperature under NIR irradiation, creating a conducive microenvironment for subsequent sterilization and tissue repair; second, remarkable enzyme-mimetic activity, which catalyzes the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) under light conditions. These ROS can directly act on bacteria and modulate the inflammatory response, thereby helping to resolve both wound infection and inflammation. In vitro experiments confirmed the hydrogel's highly efficient synergistic antibacterial effect against Staphylococcus aureus , attributed to the combined induction of bacterial clearance through photothermal and enzyme-mimetic activities. In a mouse model of infected wounds, the hydrogel demonstrated outstanding performance in eliminating bacterial infection, suppressing inflammation, promoting collagen deposition, and ultimately accelerating wound closure. This study provides experimental evidence supporting the translational potential of MoS₂-based nanomaterials in biomedicine, while confirming that the MoS₂@DAS hydrogel serves as a versatile platform with promising application prospects in innovative treatments for infected wounds, offering new insights for clinical therapeutic strategies.

A sensitive fluorescence and colorimetric dual-mode detection method based on Eu 3+ and Fe 3 O 4 @MoS 2 nanocomposites was constructed. In this technique, tetracycline antibiotics (TCs) chelated with Eu 3+ to form a Eu 3+ -TCs complex which emits red fluorescence at 620 nm through the antenna effect. At the same time, Eu 3+ -TCs complex enhances the peroxidase-like activity of Fe 3 O 4 @MoS 2 to catalyze the oxidation of 3,3’,5,5’-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) that can produce a colorimetric signal. This proposed strategy has been used to detect three antibiotics including oxytetracycline (OTC), tetracycline (TC), and chlortetracycline hydrochloride (HCl-CTC). The linear ranges of the new assay for OTC, TC, and HCl-CTC were 0.1–25 μM, 0.5–25 μM, and 0.05–5 μM with the detection limits of 0.016 μM, 0.039 μM, and 0.036 μM, respectively. Meanwhile, this new method was fast and convenient which can complete the detection in 22 min. The assay has been effectively applied to TCs detection in tap water, lake water and honey with satisfactory recoveries of 90.55–109.86%. Graphical

Materials engineering plays a pivotal role in determining the energy storage efficiency of supercapacitors. In this work, a Zn-MnO₂/MoS₂ heterostructure was synthesized via a hydrothermal route, where the synergistic coupling of Zn-doped MnO₂ with conductive MoS₂ nanosheets significantly enhanced redox activity, electronic conductivity, surface area, and structural stability. Zn doping not only expanded the MnO₂ lattice to facilitate faster ion diffusion but also induced oxygen vacancies, providing additional active sites for charge storage. Meanwhile, MoS₂ offered a conductive 2D framework that buffered volume changes and accelerated electron transport. As a result, the Zn-MnO₂/MoS₂ electrode delivered a high capacitance of 1440 F g⁻¹ at 2.85 A g⁻¹, outperforming individual Zn-MnO₂ (1250 F g⁻¹) and MoS₂ (210 F g⁻¹) as well as previously reported electrodes in 1 M KOH. Furthermore, the assembled Zn-MnO₂/MoS₂//AC device exhibited a specific capacitance of 147 F g⁻¹ at 2.85 A g⁻¹, an excellent energy density of 59 Wh kg⁻¹ at a power density of 1145 W kg⁻¹, and outstanding cycling stability with ~91% retention over 14,000 cycles. These experimental and theoretical insights highlight the strong potential of Zn-MnO₂/MoS₂ heterostructures for next-generation practical supercapacitor applications.

Developed a LiCl-doped MoS₂ composite for self-powered humidity sensing. • Exhibits wide sensing range, fast response, low hysteresis, and high repeatability. • Enables capacitor charging, LED lighting, breath monitoring & noncontact sensing. Humidity sensors are widely used in environmental monitoring and human-related applications. Electrochemical power generation humidity (ECH) sensors have gained considerable attention owing to their zero external power requirement, compact size, and battery-like power generation capability. In this study, we propose an ECH sensor based on LiCl-doped MoS₂ microspheres as the humidity-sensing material. MoS₂ microspheres were synthesized by a hydrothermal method in an ionic liquid/water binary emulsion, combined with LiCl solution to form the sensing slurry, and coated across planar Cu and Zn foil electrodes to construct a humidity-activated galvanic device. The material was characterized by SEM, EDS, FTIR, XPS, and contact-angle measurements, and its humidity-sensing and power-generation performance was systematically evaluated in saturated-salt humidity chambers. The sensor achieves a wide detection range (11%–97% RH) with fast response/recovery (4.6/40.1 s), good repeatability (RSD = 0.44% over 10 cycles), and low hysteresis (6.4%). The average sensitivity is approximately 5.2 mV/%RH over the 11%–97% RH range. A single device outputs 0.70 V at 97% RH, and a series array of five sensors can charge a capacitor to light a red LED, demonstrating its power generation capability. Applications in respiratory-pattern detection and contactless finger-proximity sensing are further demonstrated, highlighting the practical potential of this ECH sensor. Flexible MoS₂/silk fibroin composite nanofibrous membranes were fabricated via composite electrospinning for piezoelectric nanogenerators and wearable self-powered sensing. • MoS₂ nanoflowers acted as efficient nucleating agents to significantly promote the formation of β-sheet structures in silk fibroin, increasing its content from 40.96% to 47.22%. • The optimized composite membrane with 5 wt% MoS₂ loading delivers an open-circuit voltage of 5.41 V, approximately twice that of pristine silk fibroin membrane. • The composite membrane exhibits a high piezoelectric coefficient d₃₃ of 53 pC/N and maintains stable electrical output after 3300 cyclic compression tests. Bio-based silk fibroin (SF) typically exhibits suboptimal piezoelectric performance due to the low proportion of β-sheet crystalline domains and poor interfacial compatibility with inorganic fillers, which limits its application in flexible self-powered sensing. In this study, hydrothermally synthesized MoS₂ nanoflowers were doped into SF, and SF/MoS₂ composite nanofibrous membranes were fabricated via composite electrospinning, with their preparation process and piezoelectric properties systematically investigated. Acting as nucleating agents, MoS₂ nanoflowers significantly promote the formation of β-sheet structures in SF, increasing the content from 40.96% in pristine SF membranes to 47.22%. Synergizing with their intrinsic piezoelectric effect and optimized interfacial stress transfer, the composite membrane achieves an open-circuit voltage of 5.41 V, approximately twice that of pristine SF, and maintains stable output after 3300 cyclic compressions. Assembled into PENG devices, it was applied to human motion monitoring, enabling real-time detection of muscle contraction activities with clear signals, rapid response, and excellent repeatability, thus providing a novel strategy for self-powered sensing and wearable energy harvesting. Nitrite contamination poses a significant hazard to environmental safety and human health, making it essential to develop highly sensitive and selective detection methods. In this study, a ternary polyaniline/tin dioxide/molybdenum disulfide (PANI/SnO 2 /MoS 2 ) nanocomposite was designed and synthesized for high-performance electrochemical nitrite sensing. The nanocomposite was thoroughly characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). A glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with this nanocomposite was constructed as an electrochemical sensing platform for nitrite detection. The resulting sensor exhibited an electroactive surface area of 0.1344 cm 2 , which is 2.8 times that of the bare GCE. Owing to the synergistic effects among the three components, the sensor demonstrated excellent electrocatalytic activity towards nitrite oxidation. Under optimal conditions, it achieved a wide linear detection range from 0.9 μM to 1300 μM, with a sensitivity of 0.5606 μA · μM −1 · cm −2 , a detection limit of 0.33 μM (S/N = 3), and a quantification limit of 0.9 μM. The sensor also displayed outstanding selectivity, stability, and repeatability. Furthermore, it was successfully applied to detect nitrite in tap water samples, yielding satisfactory recovery rates.
